I've got a list of story titles that are organized by genre, and I'd ultimately like to have a formula (not VBA) that automatically generates a "story id" based on the title's position within the genre (not the list overall). Here's a snippet of the list:
So what I'm looking for here is the formula that would give me the ID shown in the first column (I can modify it later for specific purposes). I've tried variations on the MATCH, INDEX, ROW, and VLOOKUP functions but just can't seem to get it quite right. Note: All the items in the Title column are unique - there are no duplicates.
All of the numbers between the 100100 Books, 100300 Videos belongs to that category. This repeats hundreds of rows down. I need the column to the left of this range to display which division it under. I parse this in excel so Books, Videos, Magazines will be in their own column. I am not exporting the CSV so have to manipulate it in excel. I need to have the column to the left combine the whole identifier so I can perform a VLOOKUP on it. It should look as follows:
100100.1234.ab 100100.1345.bf etc.
My approach was to get the column to the left of the range to display the correct division, then have another column combine by using (cell)&"."&(cell).
I am trying to create a form with a text box that when text is entered, it adds to the userform another textbox with that data in it. The focus then goes back to the original textbox so that more may be added indefinitely, all with relative position to the most recently added textbox. Here is what I have so far, works for one time, but not multiple textboxes. The original textbox is "txtAPID"
Private Sub MakeNewTextBox() Dim newTextBox As TextBox Dim ControlTop As Long With LastAirport ControlTop = 30 End With Set newTextBox = Me.Controls.Add("Forms.TextBox.1", "txtNextAirport", True) With newTextBox .Left = 20 .Top = ControlTop + 3 .Height = 15 .Text = txtAPID.Text End With....................
I need to insert a picture on a Excel 2010 worksheet.
The worksheet contains a variable number of columns, and the column width is also variable.
The picture needs to be aligned such that the right edge of the picture is in line with the right side of the last used column.
This is so that when the worksheet is converted to a PDF document the picture (company logo) appears on the top right hand side of the page.
I can find the cell reference for the last column, and I can move the picture around the page. But I'm not sure how to find the position of the last column on the page?
I've got this far:
'copy picture and resize and position Sheets("Output File").Select ActiveSheet.Shapes.Range(Array("Picture 1")).Select Sheets("External data sheet").Select Cells(1, 10).Select ' I can make this be relative to the last column on the WS ActiveSheet.Paste Selection.ShapeRange.Height = 50 Selection.ShapeRange.IncrementLeft 0 'put the picture in a position relative to the cell selected
I need to change multiple conditional formats which apply to cell ranges 1 row x 17 columns wide. The specific change I am making is able to be acrried out with the code
With Selection.FormatConditions(1).Font .ColorIndex = xlAutomatic End With
However, I dont want the user to have to manually select each 17 cell area. I WANT THE USER TO JUST MANUALLY SELECT THE FIRST OF THE 17 CELL AREA. I want to write a macro that will THEN select a row of cells, 17 cells long, from the MANUALLY SELECTED position as at the moment of running the macro. Unfortunately the cells are not always on the same row in each sheet. On one sheet they may be on row 5, on another row 8 and on another, row 15 etc. I was wanting to be able to select a 17 cell range 'relative' to where the cursor is. How do I write the code to select the relative cell range? Is there an answer in an R[1]C[1]:R[1]C[17] sort of code?
My OS is Windows 7. My version of Excel is 2007. I have read how to get a macro to move around a page in a relative way, but is there a way to move from page to page in a relative way as well?
I have a product database that contains in column A the product name (eg "Granny Smith"), in column B the category (eg "Apple") and in column C the number of sales (eg 10,123).
I was looking to use code to list the top 10 products for each category, so to show the top 10 names I would enter in something like...
I'm attaching a spreadsheet in order for you to understand my question, and I will explain it based on that, ok? I apologize in advance for english mistakes, since it's not my 1st language. I want to search the salary value in column B and, in Column C, I need the job title to be posted based on what is written in Column J.
The table h2:i8 contains the maximum salary a person on that position can earn. So when you look the salary on column B, it should seach in column H and compare to the maximum value, and return the description on Column I that corresponds to that salary range. So if somebody earns 6500, it should be qualified as a supervisor, because its salary maximum is 7100. I have searched the forum here and found similar problems, with suggestions to use vlooup and Index. But I just can not figure it out.
I need to look within column A (which contains text strings), match label in column c (which contains text for label), and return result within column B (titled category label).
Essentially, I want to label my data based upon a specific element found within column A with a label list in column C.
I have attached an excel file that shows the current problem. Nested if(isnumber(search( statements can perform this, but I yield too many arguments error after three labels?
Isn't there a way to do this with Vlookup or Hlookup?
i want to do is to use value in [K8] and to find a row which matches the value in [A11:A35]. Then to pick up the cell where the value is. The problem is that i cant use "VLOOKUP" or "HLOOKUP" because the value can be in any of the rows or columns from [C11:I35].
There is allways only 1 value per row, if itīs for any use..
If cells a4:aa4 contained various results in the format "TeamX won by xx runs", how could I search the row for a particular team, and return the column reference it is first found in?
I currently have a list of totals that i want to easily be able to change the cells that make up this total.
I have been trying to set up one cell that contains the formula and then the remaining totals below are linked to this cell. Thus I change the formula in the top cell all the other totals also change.
I have a workbook that uses several indentification fields one for Job ID, One as a subID which occurs for every part of a job, i am currently using formula
I have 8 columns of data, the first 4 and the last four columns have the values which correspond to each other.. Here is an example:
VALUES(A to D)NAMES(A to D) ABCDABCD 1.3451641.3383581.286221.359808321325370391
So value 1.345164 corresponds to 321 and 1.28622 to 370. I need a function that will return a value from one of the VALUES columns which corresponds to the second smallest cell value from the NAMES columns. For example here the second smallest number in NAMES column is 325 so the function would return the corresponding value of 1.338358.
I work with Excel the more I realize that I'm not that good at it Anyways, I'm in need of a quite advanced formula (for me) that sums up relative relative rows of a specified column. The rows relation depends on the ID-number of the person. Look at my attachment.
In Sheet1 I have an extract of the data I'm working with. It's a medical record of different people in a study. The ID (col. B) seperate the different people. One person can have several perscriptions (spelling?) of medicine. Every perscription has an "fddd", a daily dose (col. L). I want to add up all the daily doses for every seperate ID of my data in Sheet2. So for example, for ID1 I want it to sum L3:L6 in Sheet1 and return it to Sheet2!B2. If the ID is not found I want it to be blank.
Hi, I desperately need help with a pivot-table and can't find anyone else who's ever had this problem...I have a very large healthcare data table which for simplicity I will describe as follows. In essence the first two columns respectively are (A) location and (B) month. Let's say the third column (C) is the number of cases of the disease kidpox treated in each health centre during that month. The fourth column (D) is the total number of cases of everything treated during that month in each clinic. The fifth column (E) is the proportion of cases of this disease over all consultations for each health centre and month, and the formula in E2 is .....
The problem I am trying to solve is to have a cell return a cell value based on another linked cell. The cells I want to link are in separate tabs or could be another workbook.
For example if cell A5 in sheet2 is linked to A20 in sheet1...A5 has formula(=Sheet1!A20). I want the next cell B5 to look at A5 and return the value of cell Sheet1!D18.
So in essence I want the second cell to look at the first cell and return a value that is 3 columns over and 2 rows up.
i have converted my text from notepad into excel format and i realise that some of my columns are shift 1 cell away for example my applications name should be in cell A but after converting, some of my cell A is move into Cell B. is there anyway that i can delete the cell that are blank and shift to Cell A or shift everything from cell b into cell a if cell a is blank? i have alot of documents to change..
I want to paste a group of non-contiguous cells, and paste the values elsewhere on the sheet while maintaining the same relative position. is this possible via macro somehow?
for example, in column A i want to copy A1,A2,A5,A9; and paste into D1,D2,D5,D9 in one step.
I've read several threads about switching between relative, absolute, and mixed references across several cells however these solutions seem to result in formula with all relative or all absolute or all mixed.
I need to change the formula in lots of cells with a mix of types of reference. e.g. I need to change "$E$4*AD$2" to "$E4*$AD$2" & would prefer not to have to go though each of the cells with F4!
I have a data that is split into multiple cells and needs to concatenated. Unfortunately, the number of columns wherein lies the data varies throughout the workbook. As such, I wanted to select a range of cells, define this range as the reference point for the macro, run the macro, then move on (selecting a different number of columns on the next try).
For example, I have this:
A B C D E
1
No Not Very Far
[Code] .....
I want to select cells A1:B1, run a macro concatenated the two columns, then select cells C1:E and run the same macro to get this:
I've been trying to get the sum of a range of cells based on their relation to the active cell. Here is the Pseudo If the SUM of (the cell 2 rows up THROUGH the cell 2 rows up and 2 columns to the left) = 0 then .......
*****end pseudo
I think that activecell.offset is the best way to do it, but I can't figure out how to work that in a range....
The code is supposed to find HEQL in column G in BOOKED.XLS ( attached) and then do a series of copy pastes into two other workbooks. For some reason, it is only finding one instance of HEQL and there should be 255.
