I have a large number of .txt files that are comma separated files (but not saved with the .csv extension) that I need to convert to files with the .csv extension.
Is there an easy way to do this for all files in a given folder? Ideally, the files don't even need to be opened as they are are quite large in size (70MB+) and there are a lot of them (500+).
Comma separated data on sheet 2, look up info on sheet 1, return comma separated data on sheet 2.

I have around 30 files each quarter which I need to convert from a text file to an excel spreadsheet. I am a beginner with VBA and am looking for generic code I can use for a macro to:
1. open a text file from a folder
2. delimited/tab/comma
3. format columns H, O, and AH into dates
4. 'leave a spot for me to insert my code to manipulate the data'
5. save the file as an excel spreadsheet to a folder with the same filename
6. loop to perform this task to all files in a folder and stop after the last file.
The dilemna I am having is that my text files do not have a suffix ".txt" after them.
They just have the file name ***MMDDYYYY. There are always 3 initials at the beginning which change for each file i.e. ABC06302009.
The date remains the same for the given quarter, i.e. ***06302009. Next quarter I will have to do this same thing for all files ***09302009.
I have this code that generates excel pages as pdf files, but I can't get it to save it in its individual folders. For example, I have the sheet name as Brian Lin, I want to save the pdf into the folder called Brian Lin, then if I have the sheet name as Lilly Tran, the pdf should save into the folder called Lilly Tran. Here's my code. The code is one step short of what I want it to do, it saves in the folder right before the name folders.

Whenever I make a change to any of my spreadsheets and click save, a backup is created in the same folder. A sample document is attached. Download it, make a change, then save it.

I currently have 3 batch files that I would like to be able to update using VBA instead of manually adding the information to each one. My goal is to be able to use my excel file and when I add new lines I could then run the script to save and/or update each of the batch files. I would like to be able to add the new lines I added in excel to the end of the batch files. I use the batch files for automation purposes but I do not like the fact that I have to open each one and added the same lines three times. This is why I want to be able to update my excel file and then add those new lines to the batch file. An example of how to accomplish this task using VBA would be awesome.

I'm sure it is what I need, but as a non-programmer, I'm having trouble using it.
I have 12 files, each with 14 tabs. Example:
File: Sector.xls
Tab 1: Region 1
Tab 2: Region 2
Tab 3: Region 3
The client now wants 14 files, each with 12 tabs:
File: Region 1.xls
Tab 1: Sector 1
Tab 2: Sector 2
Tab 3: Sector 3
My first attempt was to try a macro:
1) left click on tab
2) move or copy...
3) move selected sheets to book (File: Region 1.xls)
4) then go on to next tab...............
Now, this does loop through the requested files, I can see them open, then close. I'm guessing they are copying, but I take it that I need to have it paste, then go to the next? (The c:files is just generic, as the files are on our LAN, and I'm just paranoid. The "Erie St. Clair" are the actual names of the file, and the tabs).
I want two sheets of my Excel workbook to be saved as txt file. The name of the file is compiled of a fixed part ("TrialList" or "BlockList") and two values from another sheet (subject and session number):

Now, saving the text files with the desired file names works perfectly. However, Excel decides to change the names of the sheets that have been saved as text files accordingly. This is something I want to prevent from happening, since a second loop of actions will end because of the unexpected sheet names...
I'm programing a VBA macro in Outlook 2007. I have added a button to the quick bar so when i open an email and push that button, a Excel file opens and i can input some data. Thing is, i need that if the opened email have some kind of attachment, when i push the button i want this attachement to be saved into a specific folder. Is that posssible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to use prtScrn button on the keyboard to capture the screen (excel UI) and then pasted it to excel then saved it. I tried to do the same thing on my friends machine and what surprises me is that the file size of two excel is different.
We use the same OS, excel version and the same machine specs.My saved excel file is around 7.91 mb in size while his is just around 235kb. Why is this like this?
Both pasted image have bmp as a format (default for excel when a you use print screen and directly paste it on excel.).
So i have a macro that i wrote that willclean up these datafeeds that i get. i want to be able to use them for each spreadsheet. So the first bit i tried was saving a personal.xls file in the xlstart folder in XP (MSE 2003) . That would automatically pull up but when i tried to run the macro on other worksheets i get the generic 400 error.
the next thing i tried was copying the macro to a module and adding function tags and taking out the sub tags. i then "saved" that in the addins folder then tried assiging my custom button to is through the macros prompt. When i gave the title box the absolute path to the addins folder with clean.xla cited it said it was invalid, so i tried saving it just as clean.xla expecting it to locate the file there anyway.
this far each time i try to run the macro globally it says it cant find the current sheetname!macroname So i must be missing a step somewhere... can anyone give advice, i have searched the forum and couldnt find a similar problem for solutions.
I would like my macro to prompt the user to select a folder for files to be either opened from or saved to during the running of my macro.
In fact, I need them to select two folders, one for this month and the other for last month.
I think I need to set the two folders as a variable but being fairly new to vba I'm not quite sure how to do this.

In order to do some analysis on these airfoils, I need to save each 3x50 as separate text file to define input for analysis code.

I load an text file into an excel sheet and after some eventually changes I save (overwrite) it back into the text file again. Now the text file has become a file with 50 pages (49 empty pages). How can I avoid this or how can I set an EOF when no more written lines follows. The code for saving the excel sheet is this:

I have four columns of data. Column A is for the Model, B is for options, C is for color, and D is for Trim. What I need to do is for each model I need to have the options in column B to be listed down the page without commas. Each 3 code option needs to have it's own cell. In the below example there are 8 models with their options, color, and trim. I cannot have the options mixed up with the other models. Hope this makes more sense.

What happens right now is that the cost manager sends out one file to a lot of different project heads and then on having them return back to him he basically has to individually add in all the data. What i am trying to do is that he somehow carries on sending out the data as there are a lottt of projects and then on returning them they automatically update.
I have a cell in a table containing user entered Comma separated values.
How can I process it so that user entered values can be referred to just like in an array? Is it possible to do something like cell.value[0]?
For example --
cell A1 has values red, blue, green. B1 has a formula that can refer to "red" in A1 by writing something like A1.value[0]
Is it possible to have a function return values to another cell reference than from the cell where it is called? Like a UDF called functionIndividualValues(InputcellReference, OutputCellReference) functionIndividualValues(A1, A2) meaning that the input string for the function is in A1 and the output should go to the cell A2.

how I can loop through folders to select files starting with a certain word and copy all of them to a different folder and rename them. The folder structure is given below
Company 1(parent folder)
North South East(sub folder) West(sub folder)

In the above structure, the files are present inside each folders Jan, feb...Dec under the regions North, South East n west. note that I have to select files starting with "Sales" and copy them into a new folder(say results) and rename copied files as Sales1.xls, Sales2.xls etc. (Files are not present in the folder company1, north, south, east and east.)

I need some code that will allow me to easily send it a filename and it will know how to close the file and the application that opened it.
I have an Excel application (Excel 2003) which is stored in the default Program Files folder by the Installer; for example: c:program fileszxchello.xls. The problem I am running into is this file opens as Read Only in Vista and this is interfering with the running of the application. There is no problem opening the file normally in Windows XP.
I have been able to narrow down the cause of this to the User Account Control system in Vista - if I turn OFF User Account Control, the Excel file opens normally and my application functions normally. Is there another option to open the Excel file without turning OFF User Account Control because some users may find it unacceptable to turn OFF this security feature. Ofcourse, one option is to install the application in another location, outside the Program Folder, and the file would open normally, but the Packaging Wizard that I am using to package the application does not allow me to install the application in any other location and thus, the application installs in the Program Folder and I am running into this problem of the Exel file opening as Read Only. Is there a way out of this situation where I can open the file normally (not as Read Only)?

Since I am importing thousands of files, when there is no more space on my worksheet, the code stops with an error message. I have a excel file that I enter information into. I have code that saves the files to a certain folder with the name, date, and time stamp for the file name. At the end of the day I might have 3 to 15 excel files I have created that day and I would like to take information from certain cells (examle: L3, B6, B7, B8, G8, and so on) and create a txt file with all of the information in it.

I have a relatively large data set that is separated into columns A-G. In column G, I have a multitude of values that are separated by commas. What I would like to do is to separate these entries into rows while keeping those values in A-F constant.
Here is an example of what I would like to do through VBA:

Also, kudos. This website has now gotten me interested in VBA.
For example the cell contains 1,M2,M7,M1,M8:2,M15,M9,M4,M5:3,M3,M6,M14,M11,M12:4,M10,M13 and I need to create M1, M2 , M3 ..etc columns and attach the coresponding number to each one of them. For instance M2,M7,M1,M8will get 1 and so forth and so on. I was acutally thinking using the Notepad to replace the , with a TAB space and paste them back in to my data set and create some IF statements. On the other hand running VBA scrip would make it even easier. However I would preffer to use a function (that I am not 100% familiar with) and leave the VBA scrip out of the question for the moment.
