Saving Batch Files From Excel

Nov 22, 2013

I currently have 3 batch files that I would like to be able to update using VBA instead of manually adding the information to each one. My goal is to be able to use my excel file and when I add new lines I could then run the script to save and/or update each of the batch files. I would like to be able to add the new lines I added in excel to the end of the batch files. I use the batch files for automation purposes but I do not like the fact that I have to open each one and added the same lines three times. This is why I want to be able to update my excel file and then add those new lines to the batch file. An example of how to accomplish this task using VBA would be awesome.

Error In Excel Script To Batch Copy And Rename Files

After working on this script for a while, I have come up with this.

Code:
Sub CopyAndRenameImages()

Dim fs As Object
Dim oldPath As String, newPath As String
Dim LastRow As Long
Const PW As String = "Password"

[Code] ..........

Handler:
MsgBox oldPath & " cannot be found."

End

End Sub

But for some reason it is always pulling an error on the last item in the list, even if the file is there.

Batch Image Saving

Sep 15, 2009

Added pictures of the items to include on quotes (the pictures are in a column to the right of all the other details - (these pictures only exist in Excel)).
Our new quoting software tool needs a link to the filename - however, our pictures don't have logical filenames!

Is there a way we can do a batch save as of all these images so it ends up as 'part#'.jpg within folder X?

There are about 6,000 products and will be a bit of zombie work we don't really want to do!

Difference In File Size When Saving Excel Files?

Apr 11, 2013

I tried to use prtScrn button on the keyboard to capture the screen (excel UI) and then pasted it to excel then saved it. I tried to do the same thing on my friends machine and what surprises me is that the file size of two excel is different.

We use the same OS, excel version and the same machine specs.My saved excel file is around 7.91 mb in size while his is just around 235kb. Why is this like this?

Both pasted image have bmp as a format (default for excel when a you use print screen and directly paste it on excel.).

Excel 2003 :: Saving Files Generated By External Application

Jul 23, 2013

I have the following code which edits an excel file and saves it in a different format, I think want the code to take this newly saved file and open it in an external application (Softplot) and then save it through this new application.

VB:
Sub FormatMacro1a(ws As Worksheet)
ws.Copy
Rows(1).Delete
Columns("D:E").Cut Destination:=Columns("J:K")
Columns("F:K").Cut Destination:=Columns("D:I")
Range("E1:E201").Value = "0"

[Code] .....

As it stands I have the file saving in a new format and I can open a specific file in softplot through VBA however where I am getting stuck is opening my newly saved file and then saving it.

I have tried the following :

VB:
Path = "C:Program FilesSoftPlot-8softplot.exe"
File = "ActiveWorkbook"

Is there an easy way to do this for all files in a given folder? Ideally, the files don't even need to be opened as they are are quite large in size (70MB+) and there are a lot of them (500+).

Excel Formula To VBA Code Batch Convert

Jul 22, 2014

I use a software to find relationship between some variables. this software can export results (excel mathematical formula) to a text or excel file. I need use this formulas in my VBA codes. but I should convert about 100-150 formula each time, hence this is very time consuming and hard to do that manually. I wondering if there is any macro code or third party software for that?

excel formulas are like this:

VB:
=((1/2)*((((EXP(EXP(EXP(-0.00159049260456001*$A1)))+2.36277505628942)/(LN(1.34876400300668*$B1))+(1/2)*((13.8900474312246)+(EXP(2.22254189839997*$C1)))))+(2.56256412775789*$D1/((1/2)*((1.34876400300668*$B1)+(EXP((1/2)*((EXP(-0.000633515788838835*$E1))+(-15.3575339156491)))))*(-15.3575339156491-1.31506071323009*$F1*EXP(EXP(2.22254189839997*$C1))))))*0.00300997948851126+-0.00736105020728091)

Run Excel Macro From Batch File. Workbook Open

Feb 24, 2009

I wanted to run a batch file which does something like,

Dir /b >Test.csv
Start Test.csv

And then runs an Excel macro once the workbook is open.

I looked into this and discovered that it’s not really that possible to run an excel macro through batch file but other options were to use ‘Workbook_Open’ etc.

I thought this might cause problems because Test.csv doesn’t contain a macro to auto open and because csv’s usually don’t like macros.

I do however have personal.xlsb which opens every time if that helps.

Copying Tabs And Saving Them As Files

Jun 13, 2007

I've already done a search and found this on ozgrid.com:

RunCodeOnAllXLSFiles

I'm sure it is what I need, but as a non-programmer, I'm having trouble using it.

I have 12 files, each with 14 tabs. Example:

File: Sector.xls
Tab 1: Region 1
Tab 2: Region 2
Tab 3: Region 3

The client now wants 14 files, each with 12 tabs:

File: Region 1.xls
Tab 1: Sector 1
Tab 2: Sector 2
Tab 3: Sector 3

My first attempt was to try a macro:

1) left click on tab
2) move or copy...
3) move selected sheets to book (File: Region 1.xls)
4) then go on to next tab...............

Now, this does loop through the requested files, I can see them open, then close. I'm guessing they are copying, but I take it that I need to have it paste, then go to the next? (The c:files is just generic, as the files are on our LAN, and I'm just paranoid. The "Erie St. Clair" are the actual names of the file, and the tabs).

Saving Macros As Global Addins Or Personal.xls Files

Jan 12, 2010

So i have a macro that i wrote that willclean up these datafeeds that i get. i want to be able to use them for each spreadsheet. So the first bit i tried was saving a personal.xls file in the xlstart folder in XP (MSE 2003) . That would automatically pull up but when i tried to run the macro on other worksheets i get the generic 400 error.

the next thing i tried was copying the macro to a module and adding function tags and taking out the sub tags. i then "saved" that in the addins folder then tried assiging my custom button to is through the macros prompt. When i gave the title box the absolute path to the addins folder with clean.xla cited it said it was invalid, so i tried saving it just as clean.xla expecting it to locate the file there anyway.

this far each time i try to run the macro globally it says it cant find the current sheetname!macroname So i must be missing a step somewhere... can anyone give advice, i have searched the forum and couldnt find a similar problem for solutions.

Convert All CSV Files In A Folder To Excel Files?

Apr 8, 2014

I is it possible to convert all comma separated text files in a single folder in to excel files. But the requirement is to have 2 sheets in each new file. first to be the full file - with all columns, and in the second sheet to keep only colum A B D G H K L M O P R S T V W from the first sheet. The second sheet name must be the same as the first one but without the first "wlist_" in the name.

One more thing. The third column in the second is called "COUL". there are short letters for colors in french

can they be converted with the sort in English like it goes:

NO = B
BA = W
RG = R
SO = P
JA = Y
BE = L
VE = GY
GR = G
VI = V
MA = BR
BJ = TA
OR = O

Here is a link to the both CSV and an example excel file with the end result. In this example i haven`t change the shorts for the colors. It takes me too much time with the find and replace function. And at the moment i`m really pushed from time.

Saving Excel Sheet As TXT?

Jan 27, 2012

I've got a macro that generates some parameters and after they have been generated, the values have to be saved in text file. The problem that I'm facing is that the text file saves the values in double quotes.

I've been searching online for a solution to the problem and what I've found is that if the cell value in excel includes a comma, the resultant text file will store the entire value in double quotes.

I'm using the save as method and I read that if you provide the save format as xlTextPrinter this problem will not occur, but the limitation is that it can only work with values less than 240 characters in length.

Excel 2007 :: Not Saving Formatting Changes

Oct 13, 2008

I have someone in the company that I work for that is using Excel 2007 in compatibility mode, that is trying to make changes to an Excel 2003 file.

The file in question is a large one. She can type in the rows and columns and anything that she types will save. However if she trys to make any changes to the file in terms on calculations or highlighting specific columns, then these changes are not saved.

I have found out though that if she saves this 2003 file in the 2007 format, then all over her changes will save. She can't save it in the 2007 format due to some people still on 2003 that edit this file as well.

Saving Data From Excel To Access Through VBA

Mar 12, 2014

I have created one Info path solution to gather information from different locations to one hidden Access database. And in last month or two I already have more than 30 000 entries in database. On other side I have created 2 excel workbooks, one for purpose of report that has all connection done through VBA, user just opens it, clicks button and gets report and one workbook that is for other set of users so they can change 2 specific columns of data, everything else is locked. When one department fills value it should fill based on gathered information, and clicks save that cell or cells are being locked.

At first I did on worksheet change event, when user changes a cell (enters information) it triggers worksheet_change event and saves that value in database and colours cell green. But, then users start complaining that when they use copy paste or the use fill paste option (just pull value from one cell to others) it does not save value. Ok ... that is because worksheet_change event does not trigger in situation when copy paste in any form occurs.

So how to solve it ... when pulling data in excel I pull identical table (data) in other hidden worksheet. When they change what they need to change, they click button "save to database" i have created and there is a macro that makes other sheet visible, goes through the records and saves where cell value in table that is being entered is different then same cell in hidden table.

Problem is that sometimes my code works without a problem and sometimes they get an error. I cannot figure out when. When a lot of users use that excel file, for some users it is a read only file, and as I presume that is ok, because macro works in any case and data are stores in database so excel file itself does not have to be saved.

Here is code.

I have repaired, I have even deleted and downloaded a new office pro genuine and installed and doing the same so i guess it has to be the file?

BUT it seems to work on another laptop we have, same file, same excel????

The only thing i seem to be able to find is in the permissions it has an "unknown account"? Also under the file menu where it allows you to check the file it states something about conditional formatting i have used and not being compatible BUT i cant for the life of me find that in the menus to get rid?
