Select Entire Row With A Named Variable

Feb 6, 2007

I have this problem quite often and always have to think of a way around it, however I think there must be a simple method of doing what I want.

If I want to select row three, I would write:

Rows("3:3").Select

However, if I have a variable which holds my row number how do I rewrite the above code? I've tried serveral varations of:

Rows("CurrentRow:CurrentRow").Select

Append Variable In Variable Select Case Method

Feb 16, 2012

I want the select case list of a ComboBox to be treated as a variable in order to shorten the code size. To clarify the problem, i post the code with what i want to do, but don't know how to do it that way.

Code:

Select Case ComboBox1.ListIndex
Case 0: y = "AT"
For j = 0 To 26
Case "j": y = sheets("name").Range("A(j)") 'Range A(j) is a string, so y as well, as seen in Case 0.
Next j
End Select

Is something like this possible?

Select Specific Columns Rather Than Entire Row

Sep 28, 2013

I plucked a macro off an old post from here (as I always do), but I'm having trouble tweaking it.

VB:
Sub completedtest()

Dim c As Range
Dim rngG As Range
For Each c In Intersect(ActiveSheet.UsedRange, Columns("i"))

[Code] ....

As it currently stands, the macro selects the entire row of rows containing the letter Y in column I. All I need to change is, I want to simply select columns B through I, rather than the entire row.

Autofilter Will Not Always Select Entire Sheet

Sep 4, 2009

I have a workbook that uses Autofilter.
Column A has data. Column B is hidden, has no data, and is empty.
Colmn C has data, on through the rest of the sheet (to Column AB).

Why column B has no data is unimportant for now. It, however, must maintain its existance and cannot be deleted.

When I select the autofilter sort button on column A, it selects only that column, and not the rest of the sheet. Data is subsequently scrambled.

When I unhide the empty column B and select the sort button on column B, it selects the entire sheet. Data remains intact.

When I select the sort button on column C, it selects the rest of the sheet, but not column A (with data), or B (with no data). Data is subsequently scrambled.

Select Entire Column Except The Merged Cells

I've been working on a macro which delivers a daily report. the report is made up of 4 sections (received orders, scheduled orders, pending orders and unusual orders) each section is topped by a title which is a merge of all columns (A through I) the problem I am having is that the first column displays case numbers (to be displayed in text or number formats) and the 7th and 8th columns are dates When I try to have the VBA select the first column to format as a number, it will select all columns due to the merged cells is there a way to format only non-merged cells of a columns

This is the section I currently use for formatting but it doesn't actually work, (everything ends up in a date format)

Select A Variable Based On A Variable

Jun 18, 2009

On my userform I have 20 comment icons (imported pictures), that when clicked need to bring up an InputBox for the user to add a comment, and store that comment in a Public variable specific to that comment which will later be written to the spreadsheet.

To keep it simple, lets say I have two comment icons to click, one to add comments to the "Testing Completed?" field, and one to add to the "Sign-Off?" field.

The first comment icon is named TestCompIcon, the second is SignOffIcon, and the public variables they write to are called TestCompComment and SignOffComment respectively.

To avoid having to code the InputBox procedure for every comment icon on the userform, I was hoping that upon click, the icon would call a centralized routine that would establish the name of the variable that needs to be written based on the name of the icon comment that was clicked. Something like as follows:...............

Select Which Named Range To Use In A Function

Oct 7, 2008

is it possible to change the named range used in a formula based on the value selected in a dropdown. I have 4 named ranges NR1, NR2, NR3 and NR4. I would like to have a VLOOKUP that uses the named range that has been selected in a drop down. So if I change the drop down option I would get a different result as it will be looking at a different range.

It is not possible to put all of the values together as one named range as the intention is that I would select the range on a hidden and protected sheet so people would only see what they need to but I only have to manage one master sheet instead of having to create a new sheet for each range.

Named Range Of Variable Size

Aug 23, 2007

I am attempting to create a rather complex macro to format periodic raw data being made available to me; this data centers around a main column. The column of interest in these raw data reports is of variable length; I wish to apply a name to this column in order to make it easier to perform calculations. I know how to write VBA code to select every cell in a column down to the point at which the column becomes empty space, regardless of how much data is in the column, and I wish a include naming of the range in the macro. However, all my resources imply you must give the exact definitions of the range when writing the name application in VBA. Does anyone know if there is a way to include naming of a range in a macro without knowing the range's exact size? Put another way, is there any way to apply a name to an already-selected group of cells without giving the exact dimensions?

Retrieve Password From Named Variable After Closing?

May 14, 2014

I've named the password to my protected workbook using this code:

ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:="password", RefersTo:=pWord1

I then want to be able to close down Excel, switch off the computer, open all back up again and retrieve the password. I've tried the code:

pWord1 = Evaluate(ActiveWorkbook.Names("password").RefersTo)

But I get this:

Run-time error '1004': Application-defined or object-defined error

How to retrieve the password from the named variable after closing?

This is to protect and unprotect the workbook whenever I open and close it to timestamp a spreadsheet in it. I don't want the daily user to be able to see the time stamped spreadsheet and so need to keep it hidden and the spreadsheet protected over the course of many days when I'm not round.

Set Variable To Named Range Or Single Cell

Nov 30, 2008

The problem exists with the lists I use. I have a "settings" sheet, where users can choose from preset values to run in the program. E.g. "Urgent", "Semi Urgent" and "Non Urgent" (there are a lot more values, but those will do for now." and the idea is to run them 1 at a time.

However, I've now determined that 99% of the time, they're going to be run 1 after another, that is to say run the program once for "Urgent", then again for "Semi Urgent" and then again for "Non Urgent". So I'd like to loop through these. Again, not a problem, you'd think.

So I added a new value to the list; "All" which users can select to invoke a list. Again, not a problem, I already have the list as a named range, "DmgList" and I can cycle through it. I ran the following test code to see if it would work in theory...

Using Vlookup Where Table_array Is A Variable That Corresponds To A Named Range

Sep 28, 2009

I'm trying to write a vlookup where both the lookup value and the table_array are variables. What I'm trying to do is get a set of dependent drop down boxes to serve as the input for vlookup. The first drop down box contains a list of named ranges and the second contains a list of possible search values. If I manually input the name the function works, but if I refer to it with a cell reference or the indirect funtion it fails. For example:

Indirect Referral To Variable Size Named Ranges

Feb 13, 2007

I am trying to use a combination of dependent named ranges and variable length ranges, so one can select in eg Col A truck name from a drop down list, and then in Col B, the engine variant only for that make of truck. The indirect(substitute) function works well if I define the dependent range name (the engine variant) using actual cell refs. However if I use the variable length name definition as described in Ozgrid (ie with offset function), I get an error message and the dropdown menu freezes. Is there anyway to overcome this without resorting to VBA?
