Set Range Of Cells For Searching Missing Combinations?
Apr 19, 2014
The following macro searches for missing combinations. This macro will search the complete list and will return any missing combination from "1, 2, 3, 4" to "7, 8, 9, 10".
I need to make some changes in this macro, so that it will search for missing combinations only within a specified range of cells (and not the whole list). For example (see excel file attached), I would like to place a search within range("G23:J183"), from combination "1, 2, 6, 9" to combination "4, 6, 8, 10". In this case, it should return only 9 missing combinations.

ive got table consisting of about 4000 entries. Below is a small example.

I want to be able to make a button through macro's, where when pressed, it shows only certain postcodes - the way i've been doing it so far is using a combination of If, And, and Or functions to return true or false if a postcode begins with either 'AH4, AH1' and has an order number beginning with 'W', for example. Then I'd record a macro where it shows the ones showing true, via data filter. The problem I've got is I need to search for about 50 different combinations of postcode, out of a list of maybe 300 types of postcode, and using my current IF,AND,OR functions, I simply run out of room in the formula bar! For example, I need find a postcode beginning with CB1-25 (i.e. CB1, CB2, CB3) etc..etc.. the only problem is if i use my current LEFT function, and i want to search for say, CB1, CB14, CB15, out of a list of 'CB1,CB14,CB15,CB16', it will still return a postcode beginning with CB16, due to the CB1.
In the link I've highlighted the postcodes I want to search for out of that small list, and hopefully any solution I'm giving here I could expand to up to 100 combinations out of 500 combinations of postcode, for example.
How do I get it to search for a massive combination of criteria?
I have a list of records that for which I cannot find values for. Essentially I have a dataset that I need to match to other information but for some records this 'other information' is missing.
1. I have a list of records with missing information 2. I have a folder with a large amount of sub-directories 3. I have many DBF files inside of these sub-directories with X columns and x rows 4. Somewhere within some row of some column is a value that links to my list of records 5. I need to search for my value in, say, A2 and return the file name and directory in which it lies 6. It can be text or number
The following code works fine to determine if a particular character occurs within the selected range of cells:
Code: Sub CheckIfCharacterIncluded() For Each MyCell In Selection If InStr(MyCell.Formula, "#") Then MsgBox ("The " & "#" & " character was found in cell: " & MyCell.Address & " at position " & InStr(MyCell.Formula, "#")) End If Next End Sub
However, I would like to extend this functionality to check for multiple characters, using some sort of array that contains all the characters I want to check for e.g. "#","*","£" and so on, without having to repeat the above code for each character for which I need to check.
Column A & B has a list of Supplier Part numbers and Buyer Part numbers as below.
Supplier P/N Buyer P/N
HGFYE/12 111111
HYEYDH/14 222222
[Code] ..........
Cell D2 is an open cell that any data can be entered into as a search term. What I am trying to do is search for a Supplier P/N that have the characters "H", "G" or "E" in it, so entering "HGE" into cell D2 would display the results into columns F & G as below.
Supplier P/N Buyer P/N
HGFYE/12 111111
HDGTEY/56 333333
I can easily do a formula for 1 character or a string of characters.
To complicate it further, if the search term has in this example has "YFF", I would like the same formula/code to workout that the result in F & G should show this time
2 formulas that I need for my work (related with linear recurrences; this is serious work). First, I would like to know if is it possible to write a formula (or a set of formulas) that allows to write in a first column, in the first cell, the number 1 and in the following m cells, m distinct numbers chosen in a set S of n numbers (n > m); in the second column again the number one, and another set of m distinct numbers chosen in the same set S (here the order of the elements matters which means that the set {1,2} can be written as (1,2) and (2,1)). And I would like to do this until all the choices of m (ordered) numbers chosen in the set S are exhausted. Example: S = {2,3,4} which means that n=3. Suppose m=2. Then the columns would be
111111 223344 342423
The second formula I'm searching is (I think) a logical formula. What I would like is a formula that checks if the numbers in a fixed number of consecutive cells of a column are distinct and also non-null. If that's the case the formula should assign TRUE and if (at least) two cells are equal or (at least) one is zero, it would assign FALSE.
see my attached picture. I am attempting to write a simple Excel Macro that can take the data from the red box and make it into the data in the blue box. Assume that I have a lot of data that will fill up the contents of the red box. I want to run the macro and have the macro output the data, NOW redistributed into the format that is contained in the blue box.
Am looking for an easy way to produce a list of combinations (maximum 6 numbers) from a range of numbers listed in 6 different columns:
Example Column A contains : 1,2,3 Column B contains : 7,8,11,15 Column C contains : 12,16,18,19 Column D contains : 17,30,31 Column E contains : 30,31,32,33,34 Column F contains : 37,39,40 The rules are:
In each combination of 6 numbers, numbers should always be taken from ALL 6 columns. In each combination, numbers cannot repeat.
I have an excel file, with roughly 1000 rows and about 6 columns per sheet of data, and about 10 sheets. I need to find combinations of numbers (in a single row) that match exactly with any of the other sheets.
For example, if Sheet 1 row 345 has the values (5,8,10,100,35,49), I want to find any other rows in any other sheets (including the sheet with row 345 values) that match exactly (5,8,10,100,35,49) and somehow identify a matching pair (possibly highlighting the cells).
I want to search every row in every sheet with all the rows/sheets in the excel file.
We could also probably add up all the values in a row into a 7th column, and find any of those #'s that match throughout the project (only in the 7th column), and I can go through and manually look for combinations myself.
I have a single rangle of numbers in Column A, and in Columns B and C and want to list all possible combinations of these numbers. If there is a possible solution without using a Macro I would perfer that, but if not I'll take what I can get.
I am attempting to return all possible combinations of 2 columns.
The first column is on Active Customer list as follows:
Customer Number(could contain up to 20,000 records) 1 2 3 4 5
The second column is on Finelines and markups as follows:
Material(Could contain up to 15 records) a b c d e
The formula is on Sheet 3 as follows:
=INDEX('Active Customer List'!$B$2:$B$50000,ROUNDUP(ROWS($1:1)/COUNTA('Finelines and Markups'!$A$2:$A$15),0))&INDEX('Finelines and Markups'!$A$2:$A$15,2-MOD(ROWS($1:1),3))
I have manipulated the formula but can only get it to return all the combinations for the first two materials.
I have a value X in cell B5 and a Value Y in cell B6, in multiple worksheets
In my userform, i have 2 comboboxes
one holding value ranges for the x coordinaate (eg 0-10, 11-20,21-30) the other holding values for the y coordinate (eg 0-10, 11-20,21-30)
i want the user to be able to select a range from the x coordinate and the y coordinate...then i want to search thru all the B5 n B6 cels across the worksheets and return those worksheets that match the users input...
It has been a while since working with code and I can't seem to find something similar to this on the site, but I know that this will be a quick fix for someone out there. I am trying to search a range for certain numbers. If they are there I would like for it to pop up a message box. I have narrowed it down to it being the range to which it is giving me an error 13 type mismatch.
If Range("B3:B100") = "8800" Or "9900" Then MsgBox "You have incorrect...." Else: MsgBox "Correct" End If
I have 7 cells containing strings but not numbers on a row.
Now I want to list out all the combinations of drawing out 3 cells out of these 7 cells while the remaining cells that haven't been drawn out could also be listed out one column next to the drawn cells.
For example, I got 7 cells like this.
A B C D E F G (each letter in ONE cell)
And I want to list out all the combinations like this:
ABC DEFG ABD CEFG ABE CDFG ABF CDEG
etc.
For more details, please refer to the attached sample (an .xls file being zipped).
I'm trying to make a userform to show the results of a search from column A. This code will search the coulmn but when the results show it show's all ranges not just the ones that contain the string
VB: Private Sub BtnFind_Click() Dim strFind As String Dim c Dim rSearch As Range
Is there a way to search a column range, and do an if/then on it in another cell. Ex) search e25:e37 and if none of the cells have anything in them, then input "--" into cell c14.
I have vba DATE variable 'FirstDate'; I assign it from a cell with say, 01/12/08; How do I then use that variable to search range of dates, without using the day and searching by only month and year?
Currently, I get the error: "Run-time error '91'; Object variable or With block variable not set" at the point of With Selection.Find(FirstDate).Select
I have been going in circles many times on this type problem: managing clumsily to resolve in the past using: Format(Firstdate,"dd-mm-yy"), text-to-column, NumberFormat etc
Say i have a range A1 to A10 that contains these numbers
101 102 103 104 356 106 225 107 108 109
I need some code that will help me find the next highest missing number in the value range of 101 - 199 in that range A1 to A10. In this case it would be 105
I have two named ranges of cells, validcodes and actions. I want to conditionally format any cell in the actions range, if I enter something that contains certain validcode range values.
I have two columns which i want to compare, they contain text data such as A123.
what I'd like is if its in column A and not in Column B then add to bottom of column A.
Once its in column A i can do the vlookup's to draw the other data, costs etc, over but don't know how to identify, and add, the missing codes to the list.
I have a named dynamic range with the source =OFFSET(Data!$J$2,0,0,COUNTA(Data!$J:$J),1) Thia is set up as the data validation list in a cell with a drop down list It is set so that once the drop down is activated there is the option of selecting a blank from the bottom of the list so that if you activate the cell in error you don't have to delete any entry you are forced to make, you can select the blank and leave the cell blank. This works fine until the list gets quite long at which time there is no option of a blank.I don't know the number in the list where this starts but certainly a list over 100 has this problem. On shorter lists the blank is selectable. The selection is correct as when you check the named list it shows the correct range. I would welcome any views on solving this if it can be resolved.
I have a pivot table based on a sales sheet called "Datasheet". I have created the pivot table using a dynamic name as below =OFFSET(DataSheet!$A$1,0,0,COUNTA(DataSheet!$A:$A),12). My problem is that I have 11100 lines of sales data but the when i refresh my pivot table it only seems to be going down to row 10979. Therefore missing out some of the data. Is there a max number of lines for a dynamic named range or is my formula wrong in any way
I'm trying to create a list of missing numbers in a range, but I can't fiure out how to do it. The problem lies in that the range of numbers is in the middle of a larger number. ie. xxx-xx-0001-xx would be number 1, and xxx-xx-0500-xx would be number 500.
I need to scan multiple sheets containing these numbers, and produce a list of the numbers missing from that range.
Example:
Sheet1 has xxx-xx-0001-xx through xxx-xx-0009-xx, and xxx-xx-0018-xx through xxx-xx-0042-xx.
Sheet2 has xxx-xx-0053-xx through xxx-xx-0062-xx, and xxx-xx-0067-xx through xxx-xx-0072-xx.
Sheet3 needs to have a function that produces a list showing xxx-xx-0010-xx through xxx-xx-0017-xx, xxx-xx-0043-xx through xxx-xx-0052-xx, and xxx-xx-0063-xx through xxx-xx-0066-xx.
I need to be able to do this without VBA. The list doesn't necessarily have to have a different number per cell, it could even show them all on 1 cell if it's easier, but it would be more presentable if it was 1 number per cell in a row or column.
A | B _______________________ WD |100 From Bangalore CR |Hyderabad 50 CR |Mysore 70 WD |900 From Kolkata _________________________ and so on in A and B columns. In the C Column depending on the cell value I want just the places like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mysore, Kolkata etc only to be displayed like shown below.
A | B | C ___________________________________ WD | 100 From Bangalore | Bangalore CR | Hyderabad 50 | Hyderabad CR | Mysore 70 | Mysore WD | 900 From Kolkata | Kolkata ______________________________________ The Places in column B are not at finite position and that is the big problem i am facing when using Left or Right function. Could anyone help me with a proper Excel function to get this done. The thing is the whole cells should be searched and accordingly the output should be obtained.
I get given a csv file on a monthly basis which contains consumption data per day for the specified period. This sounds simple but on occasion (more often than not) the data has missing days. This can cause me problem later on in my analysis.
I can happily total the monthly consumption using the date and month text. What i want to do however is to sort the csv file into daily consumption and highlight the missing days i.e. have a range of the days in the month and allocate the daily data to the correct date. I currently do this manually but know that there must be a better, automated approach... searching for matching dates for example?
In my head i'm thinking the following approach but lack the coding skills to do it.
1. Define the start and end dates. Perhaps count the number of days between the two dates and autofill the start date down the appropriate number of days in column A?
2. Paste the csv file into a different sheet and, starting from the top, cut and paste the csv data to the correct date created in step 1. Do this for each row based on the csv data.
I am trying to search three columns on a worksheet, that contain a range of customers, product names and the amount of that product sold to the to the customer. On a separate worksheet I have created a table, which I hope will show the customer, the product and the amount sold. So basically I need either a formula or piece of code that can match the customer and product, along with the amount sold and display it in one table. The data is by nature not kept in alpha or numerical order and my problem lies in being able to search through each row and extrapolate the necessary figure.
I have a column that is filled with text of varying lengths and I'd like to search through each cell in that column looking for a specific word or words. Unfortunately the length of the text varys greatly between each cell and there is very little uniformity so I need to be able to search through the entire entry in each cell and then highlight that row if a specific word or words are found.
I'd also like to be able to add a number "1" in another column on the same row if the search finds a word or words. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If the cell only contains the exact word or string I'm looking for then it's easy but I can't figure out how to search through text in a cell that contains more than I'm looking for.
example: Lets say I'm loooking for "caught fire" column Q contains: 1 "The computer caught fire after several hours" 2 "A house on the hill caught fire"
If "caught fire" exists in the cell being checked, then highlight the row and put a 1 in a specific column, lets say J.
Would like to write an IF statement where it reads if any cells in a column are highlighted and gives the sum of those highlighted while ignoring the ones unhighlighted.
Is there any way to do this or an alternate method that would possibly work?
