Size Of Rectangle Based On Cell Value
Aug 1, 2008I want to make a rectangle where the size of it is based on cell value.

I want the colour of the rectangle to be green, amber. red or black depending the value my formula brings back. I have managed to do this but the colour does not automatically update. Also when the colour goes black i will need the font in the text box to be white, at all other tines it will be black.
I am trying to set up conditional formatting in cell C4 to change the font to a smaller number based on the value of C4. If C4 = 0 then Font Calibri 16, otherwise Font Calibri 24. However, the font size is not availabe, it is greyed out. Is there another way to accomplish this without using VBA? In the worksheet could I use an if() statement to change the font size?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a spreadsheet that will monitor payment schedules, in which both payment frequency and the payment start date are inputted by the user.
As such, to make filling out the column(s) fool-proof, I want to grey out cells in which data should not be entered.
For example, if the payment frequency is every 6th day, and the payments are to begin on day 0, then days 0, 6, 12 (etc) should be left white, whereas the remainder of the cells should be shaded.
I can achieve this using multiple conditional formatting rules in excel2007 with iterations of formulae of the type:
Ive managed to get a rectangle blinking using a do loop. But I need more than one blinking at the same time. Atm when another starts blinking the first stops.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I graph a straight line and on several points on this line I want to graph rectangles, how would I calculate the corners of these rectangles.
The rectangles will not always stand 90 degrees on the line. This difference from 90 degrees is in cell L6 The direction of the line is known and the sides of each rectangle is known as well as the center of the rectangle (in meters N or S and E or W). Currently I have the direction of the line in cell L5, the long side of the rectangle in cell L3 and the short side of the rectangle in cell L4. The centers of the rectangles are in rows 1 and 2 of columns M, N, O etc. For instance cell
M1 = 450 (N) and cell M2 = 400 (E). The corners are to be calculated in reference to the values in these cells.
I have been calculating it long hand with a calculator but that takes me a long time and they tend to change things quite regularly. I have to incorporate this with macros that draw the line sition but I have that. Going clockwise from the right top around they would be called corner A, B, C and D.
I am trying to automate the cleaning and compiling of some data, in fact its quite a lot of data, there will be about 200,000 lines over several spreadsheets.
Determine the width of the data on spreadsheet1
Determine the rows with empty cells at the bottom of spreadsheet1
"now that I know the dimensions of this rectangle"
Copy a rectangle (with the same dimensions as the one on sheet1) of data from sheet2
And paste this rectangle into sheet1...
"This is the point of the excercise, I cannot have any gaps in the data (this includes at the end of a spreadsheet) as it needs to be a continous flow from one shreadsheet to another"
This is what I have done so far... I understand if it is laughable, I've only been doing this a couple of days.
Sub HowMuchSpace()
' No. of columns
Dim bWidthOfColumns
Range(Worksheets("Sheet1").Range(":*", ":*").Cells.SpecialCells _(xlCellTypeConstants).Count).Value = bWidthOfColumns
'No. of rows
Dim lNumOfRows
Range("*:*").Value = lNumOfRows
End Sub
I already have the code to import the picture but i would like it to have rounded corner's. The option if you select the picture then tick format, picture shape and it's the second rectangle in. I can not seem to find that particular piece of code for that particular shape. The other comparison is the (reflected beveled, black) option under picture format.

I have put together a simple example of my problem. There is two buttons and one text-box "TextBox 1". When I use the following code:
[Code] .........
I get one button to hide the textbox and the other to show it. Initially the textbox has the textbox properties (you can type in it) but when I hide it and show it again using the two buttons the textbox becomes like a rectangle shape which I can not type in and can only click.
How do I hide and show the text box whilst keeping it as a text box?
I want to put a length in one cell and a width in another. Then have excel draw a square/ rectangle to this size. It could just outline cells, each cell being one inch or any other way.

I have created a speadsheet for a tournament that lists the team names down column A (leaving a heading row). I have a formula in the top row which copies each row heading to a column heading 2 columns wide (to be able to record a result)
Formula: =INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROUNDUP((COLUMN()+1)/2,0),1))
This way it will be possible to keep the results of the tournament on a grid. I would like to put in conditional formatting that meets 3 criteria...
1, it must fill every second row but only fill cells that have column and row headings (ie. rows that will have content in them which will be determined by the number of entrants). eg. if i have 10 teams then every odd row from row 1 to 11 will be filled. If 40 teams register then every odd row from 1 to 41 will be filled. 2, the fill needs to only fill cells that have column and row headings eg. if 10 teams register then every odd row from column 1 to 21 will be filled. Then 3, If the row heading and column heading are equal then it need to gray out or fill a different colour (or lock cell contents to empty if possible) but again, only fill cells that have column and row headings.
I have 2 rules.
Rule 1: =(ADDRESS(1,EVEN(COLUMN()-1)))=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),1)) PROBLEM:
It needs to only fill cells that have a column and row heading which it doesn't, it fills the correct cells untill there is no column heading then fills every other cell in columns beyond the last column with a heading.
Rule 2: so far this works:
=AND(MOD(ROW(),2)>0)
but when i try to restrict it to cells with row and column headings it doesn't work. This is what I had:
=AND(MOD(ROW(),2)>0,IsEmpty(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(1),COLUMN()))"")=FALSE) OR =AND(MOD(ROW(),2)>0,CELL("contents""",ADDRESS(ROW(1),COLUMN())))
I have an Excel based application that needs to run with a screen resolution of 1024*768 in order to display correctly. Is it possible to use VBA to detect the users screen resolution. Then: If the screen resolution is not set to 1024*768 then resize Excel's main window to run at that width and height?

I would like to know if it is possible with VBA in Excel 2007 to select objects based on size (or above a certain size).
I would like to select all the picture objects but not the small checkboxes on my worksheet.
I know that I can select the items one by one with home -> find/select -> select object but how I could make this "find/select" conditional.

Run-time error 1004: Application-defined or object-defined error?
I have a cell in a spreadsheet which has a lot of text entered. The spreadsheet needs to be used by another application (Business Objects).
My problem is that I need to limit the number of characters entered in the cell to 255 characters. I know I can use Data, Validation to limit the text length, but this only works once all the data has been entered, then a message is displayed.
My ideal soulution would be:
When a user is entering text and has reached my 255 character limit, no more text can be entered;
or
When a user is entering text and has reached my 255 character limit, the text automatically continues in the next cell.
A not so elegant solution (but a usable) would be:
A character counter to let the users know when 255 characters have been reached.
Imagine a rectangular box, with a horizontal line across it, drawn using excel cells.
This is a representation of a screen that comes in 2 sections - sometimes the upper section is largest, sometimes the lower. (Sky above, land below for example)
Is there a way to draw and control the position of the line in this box, , so that by adding a numeric value in two adjecent cells, for example 75 25 would give more "sky" (the line towards the bottom) and 25 75 would give more "land" (The line towards the top)?

I know this must be documented somewhere but I don’t think I’m using the right terminology in my searches,
I frequently have to copy information from one excel sheet and paste it into another. But when I do this the formatting doesn't carry over. So I have to go to each individual cell that I pasted into and adjust the size of it. How do I copy and paste so that the formatting/cell size is preserved?

I'm looking to set up a spreadsheet whereby individuals answer questions and have to format their answer using a particular font, colour, font size and so on. The idea is that I can then compare their answer sheet to a pre completed one using an =IF function and get a total score. The only problem is =if and =exact only lookup cell text/numbers and don't look at how the text is formatted within them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am wondering within the Excel interface, is it possible to auto-fit the size of a comment box to its content?
I have searched the internet and found that a macro as follows could do the job:
Sub FitComments()
Dim c As Comment
For Each c In ActiveSheet.Comments
c.Shape.TextFrame.AutoSize = True
Next c
End Sub
However, this Macro applies to and resize all of the the comment boxes in the active sheet.
I would like to just auto-fit the comment box only to the selected cell, or even better, to multiple selected cells.
