View 9 RepliesI've been scouring the Internet for a few days now trying to get a macro working with varying degrees of success. It's driving me mad and I'm really hoping that someone out there can help me out. I'm trying to write a macro that will ...
1. Take a .xls file
2. Split the file in two
3. Take cells B2:B11 and paste them in to a csv file (to be called Upload1.csv) using the rows as column headers (i.e. B2:B11 now become A1:J1)
4. Take cells A13-J13 downwards (this file will have different numbers of rows each time it's generated) and paste them into a different csv file (to be called Upload2.csv) populating all the rows (except all rows in column I which are to be left blank) and all rows in Column J which are to contain the info in cell B7 of the original document.
5. In cell B11 of the original document I must only take the information that says MyAddress:xxxxx and discard all the other info
6. I must also loop through the second document until I find the words Total and copy everything UNTIL that row into the new document.
I know this probably sounds pretty awkward but in practice it's not that difficult to understand, it's probably the way that I've explained it
So far I've managed to take the original document and split it, populate both CSV files but I'm having problems with looping the macro until it sees the word Total and discards it and also populating the appropriate rows with the info from B7 ... I don't know how to make it populate only the rows that have info on them.
I've attached the original Excel file that is generated and also my attempt at the 2 csv files. I've also written in RED what needs to go where in each document.
I am trying to do is create a document that will be available to sevaral people. The document will be edited by each person as needed. The completed document will then be used to order materials and supplies. What I want to hapen is each time the document is edited an alert is sent to the person responsible for the purchasing. I'm sure this is possible I just don't know how to do it.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a template document, created in MS Word. I want to generate, from Excel, a new document as would happen when you open the template from windows explorer or whatever ie. Template1.doc as opposed to Template.xlt.
The best I've managed to achieve is the opening of the template.
I have five worksheets among eight total in my workbook that I use as a report. I would like to have a button that copies those five particular worksheets into a new workbook and pastes all numbers as un-linked values. This would save me a TREMENDOUS amount of time generating my reports every month.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create Word documents (letters.doc) from Excel fields.
I already created bookmarks in Word and have the same Titles in A Row in Excel 2003 and I have tried the following threads:
Add bookmarks to Word from Excel Inserting data values from Excel into a Word doc using bookmarks
But I cannot manage it properly. I know that I need the code that goes on the lines of
Set WdApp = CreateObject("Word.Application")
rather than Set WdApp = New.Object
I cannot get Word to open a document! =(
It's basic letter creation, First_Name, 2_Name, Address_1, Address_2.. These have been bookmarked in Word and have exact same Titles in Columns A-D
I have been working on the following VBA code, which should copy specific charts from excel into specific places in a word-template.
I Am quite new with VBA, so I googled the code, changed a few things, and it works exactly as it should - except from one thing. When the Word-document is loaded from the template, I would like the document to be "saved as..."
Instead of just opening the template. I have tried
Code:
.ActiveDocument.SaveAs Filename:=fname & ".doc"
The code is as follows:
Option Explicit
Sub EksporterTilWord()
Dim appWrd As Object
Dim objDoc As Object
Dim FilePath As String
Dim FileName As String
[Code] ...........
I am trying to split up an excel file that has 18000 lines, i want to break this into groups of 100 lines and retain the original header info on line one for each file. Is this possible to do with a macro. I have NO experience with macros of programming so go easy on me. It would be great if it could autosave as book 1 book 2 book 3 or whatever, file name doesn't matter that much.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOne of my coworkers is trying to create a document that has 3 columns in one part of the spreadsheet, but further down on the page, he needs to have 4 columns but wants them to use the same amount of space as the three columns. I have looked around and don't see how that is possible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a proposal generation tool that we use that is based in Excel, and it works very well indeed. However, we're wanting to add a 'Custom Contract Generator' tab to the spreadsheet, and I'm at a loss with how to build it.
What it needs to do is :
- Allow the end user to select which contract clauses are required for the proposal they are working on, ideally via a range of dropdown boxes.
- Use that selection of clauses via dropdown box to create a compiled, formatted text list made up of those clauses.
- Enter that information into a landscape orientation Excel tab in such a manner as allows for tidy, business-suitable printing.
In short, I want the ability to pick what clauses we want to use, and have Excel generate a custom contract Terms and Conditions page based on my selection. And I've no idea where to start.
I want to create a macro that creates a new .xlsx document based on cell values. And input 4 tabs into each document with specified tab names. I have a document that pulls from external sources and fluctuates with amount of data per day. I envision something that will make a new document named for the contents in cell A1, then function as a control+down to create a new document for A2, then A3 until there is no content left (should mention these are lookup formulas, and if there is no data it pulls a value of "0")
Is there a way to put in the code, the tab names it would create in each new document, or would that have to look to a cell value for the naming? The tab names would be "GS", "MYSS", "COLL SHEET", and "WIRE".
I want to convert the excel file into text document with out changing it
file type
for example
in the wordpad i have the text document in this type
"Candy","1253563"
I want this to be open in excel and i can open in the excel using delimited option but i want only to change the number "1253563" and i can use autoofilter to filter and i want to change the number "1253693" in the excel and i want that excel should open in the format of text document without any change as i mentioned before
it should open in this format
"Candy","1253693" only the number should change and this action is repeated for many numbers
I have created simple buttons on my spreadsheet to do most everything that is needed, except to display a "Help" file. The "Help" file can be a pdf document or any other document format that will work. I don't think I need any user forms or ActiveX controls. But, then again, I am a relative newbie to VB. Is there a simple way to have a button control on an Excel spreadsheet open and display a pdf file or other document? Or is there a better way to do what I'd like?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to create a new file from data in my table. I don't want to even imagine having to do this manually again...I'm optimistic there is a solution. All the data needed to create the file is in the table, but i need it stacked and organized in a weird way. It's almost to hard to explain...so I color coded an attachement that basically says it all. It's pretty much the same thing repeated over and over except the last 2 lines. It's just a really messed up organization. In the real version I need the new file in a new workbook. I'm extremely grateful to anyone who can automate this thing
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been looking around to find a solution for my problem and as a last resort I have decided to make a post, and I will get straight to the point. I have 3 xl Files of relevance:
1 - is my "database" which consists of multiple sheets with different information in each. Each sheet is correlated with each other by one common ID. 2 - is my "template" which is 2 sheets, which functions as a report. The template serves as the Report which will be printed. The data from each row from the database can fill the spaces in the template.
3 - "the tool" xl file is where i have my macros and the mapping for the which columns from the database belong to which cells in the template.
Basically what I'm trying to get to work is: User opens Tool clicks "create Reports" and the tool should then open the database, pick the range of rows from the database put the data into the relevant cell in the template save the "template" with the info on it, close it and do it again with each row of data from the database. So if I pick rows 4 to 34 in my tool, it should create 30 xls files from the template and fill in the data from each row into each newly generated "report".
I have an Excel file that is 590 MB and Excel is telling me that since there are over 1,048,576 rows in this file (which I understand is the row limit for Excel 2010), it will only open partially, up to that row amount.
Excel suggested I open up the file in Word, but that has been unsuccessful - Word gives me error messages and won't open the file. I've also tried converting the file to .rtf and .odt, but again, that doesn't work.
Is there any way to break this excel file down? I'm assuming that whoever created it could not have made the document more than 1,048,576 rows, if that is Excel's limit, but maybe I am wrong. The document is in date order from 2008 to 2011, but only 2008 will show, and I know the later years exist. It doesn't matter to me which program this file opens with, I just need the data.
We are trying to create pivot cache from an external .csv file.

Dim pvtCache As PivotCache

I have a text file which is attached as "rawdata". It contains records of something (let's call it temperature) at different times on different days. My goal is to display a graph of temperature versus time so that I can visually analyze trends. I have hundreds of these files, all of different lengths. it is very important that I automate this process as much as possible.
Detail: (Here I describe what I have done so far; if this is inefficient or unnecessary, feel free to tell me) I open Excel 2010, click File, Open, and select the file that I want to parse. It is a TXT file, so the Text Import Wizard comes up. For step one, I select Fixed Width. I select File Origin: MS-DOS (PC-8). On step 2 of the wizard, I create column break lines to place all dates in the far left column. The next column contains the first column of numbers before the first dash (-). The next column contains only the dash - I will later select "ignore this column" to eliminate them. The next column contains the time stamps. I continue adding column breaks in the wizard until all of the data are parsed into columns in the same manner.
In step 3, I format the first column as "date (DMY)". The columns with the dashes I select "do not import". Everything else is "general". I click "finish", and the resultant workbook is attached, called "import".
Now, as to what I want to do: I want to display the "temperatures" as a graph vs a date/time axis. The reason I find this difficult is because the temperatures and times are not in neat columns, but are in 4 columns that go in a left-to-right and top-to-bottom progression and are broken up every few lines. (I am interested only in numbers that are displayed immediately to the left of a time-stamp. Therefore, the "record #"s should be ignored. We can delete the rows that say "record #" if can be done automatically.)
I am processing a fair few Invoices, which are being sent to me via e-mail as excel documents, very often they contain mistakes, a decent amount of mistakes. Usually the prices are wrong.
I keep track of every single entry on the invoice on my own document - Tracker, which I consider to be the superior/more correct document to the Invoice presented to me by my contractor.
Both of the documents have a reference number, which is a specific docket number, and horizontally, in the invoice, there is going to be a price for this docket. In my document, there is going to be a separate column for the total price.
Is it possible (I guess with VBA) to check for mistakes in the Invoice, but use the Tracker as a reference for this check.
Tracker has
columns
A - Name
B - Department
C - Date
D - Docket No.
C - Total price for the docket (calculation of E to Z)
E to Z - all smaller entries
Invoice has
columns
A - Date
B - Docket No.
C to E price for that docket, but it is spread, because departments are separated out, so each VAT account can be charged accordingly. I guess it is possible to do a separate column for the price, if it is easier to do a script that way.
Basically, I need to check if in the Invoice document, the price (C to E) for Docket No. (B) is the same as the price (C) for the Docket No. (D) in the Tracker.
I would like the wrong entries to be highlighted on the Invoice Document, so I can see straight away, that this needs attention.
Not always the price is wrong, sometimes the Docket No. is spelled incorrectly (Dyslexic contractor), hence the highlighting.
I need a script that will turn a excel doc into a txt doc. Thats the easy part. The hard part (at least I think it is), is I need it to be in a certain format and I'll do my best to explain that fomat below.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe line below was originally a merged cell. I need to have the customer ID, Customer name, City, State and zip in seperate lines. I tried using the text to column, but the problem is some companies have a comma after their name to show if it is an llc or inc etc. What happens is the companies that do not have inc etc- it works just fine, however the ones that do have inc etc because there is another comma- it moves everything over one column. In the city column it says inc and in the state it has the city etc. Is there an easy way to make this work?

I have a set of (imported) data consisting of 1000+ rows. The data set (bank statement) contain six informations (date1, transaction, vendor, date2, sum1, sum2) in one cell which has to be split into six columns.
Using text-to-columns will generate more than six columns since the set dosn't have any delimiters and both the transaction and vendor name-fields contain blank spaces.
Is there a way to either split the data into the correct number of columns or if text-to-columns is used - a way to manipulate the data into the correct columns, for instance with help of filtering ?
small data sample included
I have a text file with rows and columns of numbers ranging from 1-4 digits that I'd like to import/copy into Excel with each number being in its own cell. But whenever I copy/try to import, Excel splits all of the 3-4 digit numbers up into single digit numbers. The text file has 10,000+ columns (each number occupies two columns so I have half of that amount in numbers) and 300+ lines.
Is the file simply too large for Excel to handle or is there a way I can do this?
How to split the data in my cells
Currently it looks like this.
1 - 2 - 3,4,5
A - B - C
I would like it to look like this.
1 - 2 - 3
1 - 2 - 4
1 - 2 - 5
A - B - C

Forgot to mention that the Column D is a date format and they need to be in there respective date and time format when split!

I would like to split frequency data by groups.
So I have 2 different names in column A, with a bunch of their ratings in column C.
I would like to be able to view the frequency of their individual ratings to see who gave the most types of ratings.
Currently, I have an excel sheet of names and addresses. In my address column, many of the addresses have carriage returns separating information. I want to divide this information by carriage returns and parse it into different columns.
I have already tried what I believe is the correct method: I go to Data>Text to Columns. I choose "delimited." Then I enter [Alt 0101] under "other" and make sure that is the only option checked. When I finish, only *some* of my data is parsed into corresponding columns by the delimiter while some isn't.
I have a homework assignment where I have a list of companies with the products they have with one other company. The original company and their products are listed on the same row, with a dollar value assigned to the product. So Cell A1 has company name, cell B1 has product a, and Cell c1 has the amount they pay for that product. Is there a function I can use to split that one row into 3 separate rows, to show the company name 3 times and the product and dollar amount as it's own row, next to the company?
