Numeric Validation Of User Form Textbox
Aug 13, 2008
I want one procedure that will validate the CURRENT textbox (not named by name, to allow for the procedure to be included in the change event of several different textboxes), to see if it is numeric (decimal places allowed) in Excel 2007.
I followed the instructions here: {url}, which describe exactly what I want to do. So I put the final procedure listed on that page (the dynamic validation code) into the private module of the user form object as listed below:
Private Sub pipes_Change()
OnlyNumbers
End Sub
Private Sub OnlyNumbers()
'This procedure checks to see if the value
'of the current textbox is a number or not
If TypeName(Me.ActiveControl) = "TextBox" Then
If Not IsNumeric(.Value) And .Value <> vbNullString Then
MsgBox "Sorry, only numbers are allowed."
.Value = vbNullString
End If
End With
End If
End Sub
I then ran the form and typed a number into the "pipes" textbox that had been validated. A compile error is thrown: "Invalid or unqualified reference", highlighting the ".Value" portion of IsNumeric. I tried to remove certain parts of the code, such as the IF statement and the "And .Value <> vbnullstring", but nothing works. I have a feeling it is because this code was created for Excel 2003 (though I'm not certain).

1) I have a user form that picks data from a spreadsheet - This is for scheduling a course. Works fine
2) I have a second form which should do 2 things:
a) On the bottom half of the form, select people from sheet 'Staff'. Works fine
b) On the top part, I would like to select a course (using combo box) and fromt this select a date for when the course has been scheduled (from sheet 'Scheduled Courses'). Courses are run a few times so have multiple entries. With some help, have done this and it works well
The problem is that when I select a date for a course using combobox2, I would like to populate the text box 6 & 7 with the cost of the course and the location. This goes wrong as it starts taking cost and location from the first cell. Eg when i select SPIN Selling, all is fine as this are the first courses. However If I take 7 Habits, it gives me costs for SPIN. If I take OM, it still gives me costs for SPIN. The dates in combo box 2 appear fine

I have a question regarding frames and textboxes on a user form.
I have a user form that has a number of textboxes populated from the results two Comboboxes.
I decided to group some of the textboxes in frames for more logical viewing.
I grouped the textboxes, moved them, placed two frame controls on the form then, finished by replacing the grouped textboxes. No code was altered or added.
When I ran the form, only the Comboboxes were functional and the text boxes were blank.
There were no runtime errors or compile problems.

I have a user form that has a combo box "City" two text boxes one called "Flight" and the other "Date". What I'm trying to do is to prevent the user from saving the data input from the user form if any of those three fields is left blank. The code that I have so far checks all of the required fields, if any are left blank a message notifys which field(s) is left blank and return the focus back to that field. But the rest of code also fires.
What I really need is either to stop the code if any fields are blank and return the focus back to the blank field, the user completes the field(s) and clicks the save again, or better yet, pause the code until all the required fields are completed and then complete the save. (There is actually another 200+ lines of code in this sub, but I deleted it to keep the post a little shorter.)

I have created a registration workbook for this year's youth sports league. All of the information is entered into a User Form and separated onto it's appropriate sheet designated by the child's age. Next year, I would like to use this year's workbook to look up returning players.
Will it be possible to add a "lookup" button into my form, or create a lookup program, that once the registrar clicks on the correct player, the information is plugged into the User Form, the registrar adjusts the age and any necessary info, presses enter, and the information is copied into the appropriate category in the new workbook? I haven't worked with User Forms long enough to know if they can be filled in that way, but if this can be done, you are the people who would know.

I'm using a series of user forms for data entry to a workbook, some of them open next stage user form on completion (OK cmd button).
All that is working fine, but I'd like the initial form to close on showing the next one. I've tried adding Unload and Hide commands following the frmInsertEntry.Show (Next stage form), to no avail, but I'd like this user form to close or hide at the end of the sub.
Private Sub cmdContinueType_Click()
ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Records").Activate 'Select starting cell in record sheet
Range("N3").Select
Do
If IsEmpty(ActiveCell) = False Then ' Search for next empty cell
ActiveCell.Offset(1, 0).Select
End If
Loop Until IsEmpty(ActiveCell) = True
If optDrillType = True Then
frmDrillEntry.Show
Else
frmInsertEntry.Show
End If
End Sub

I'm trying to force a user to enter a numeric value, (one numeric value between 0 and 8, inclusive) into a range of cells, prior to exiting the spreadsheet.
The range would be D7:D252, and a single value would have to be entered into each range prior to exiting the spreadsheet.

I've got a userform for pricing items and am having an issue when changing margin. I want to validate the user enters in .22 or 22%. The code places the decimal value in a worksheet just fine and runs back end calculations. I want to make sure no one fat-fingers .12b by accident so I came up with the following code. It seems to run fine, but if I tab over a couple of textbox (there are 4 Margin textboxes) it trips the coding for that textbox even if there was no change to the value.
Code:
Private Sub txtPDLaborMargin_AfterUpdate()
If IsNumeric(txtPDLaborMargin.Text) Then
Range("LaborMargin") = txtPDLaborMargin
[Code].....
how to validate the value is numeric

In the userform I have several textboxes with default values. There are five text boxes that the user can modify and three whose values I want calculated based on the values of the five modified. This is how I initialized the userform :
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
Workbooks("Main.xls").Activate
A_BB_and_HBP.Value = Worksheets(5). Cells(2, 35).Value
A_H.Value = Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 36).Value + Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 37).Value + Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 38).Value + Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 39)
A_2b.Value = Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 37).Value
A_3b.Value = Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 38).Value
A_HR.Value = Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 39).Value
Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 41).Value = A_BB_and_HBP.Value
Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 42).Value = A_H.Value
Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 43).Value = A_2b.Value
Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 44).Value = A_3b.Value
Worksheets(5).Cells(2, 45).Value = A_HR.Value
A_AVG.Value = CStr(CSng(A_H.Value) / (130 - CSng(A_BB_and_HBP)))
End Sub
Then I have :....................
When the user changes A_H, A_AVG remains at its default value.

How to use data validation to restrict the input format into a cell. I'm trying to limit a cell to the following format: either ###/###' or ##/##'. NOTE: the apostrophe at the end. Here is what I've been trying to get the thing to work for the 2nd case:
=AND(ISNUMBER(LEFT(H1,2)+0),MID(H1,3,1)="/",ISNUMBER(RIGHT(H1,2)+0),MID(H1,3,1)="'")
But I'm getting an error when I input a test into the cell, e.g. 12/45'.

I have a combo box where I select "Income" or "Expense". In relation to that, In the next column called "Category", I use the offset formula in "Validation". Depending on whether I choose Income or Expense, I will get different dropdown options for "Category". What I want to do is if I choose Expense, in the column named "Amount" beside category, I want to have it so that it places the numbers in brackets or simply a negative sign. Just as reference, I use the SUM function to total up the numbers at the bottom of the sheet.
I have attached a sample copy "Data Validation Test"

I have uploaded a copy of the spreadsheet I am working on and have completed the user forms and coding for march the 1st only, so if you test, please use the options march and then the 1st!
The problems i have is, when I enter a number into a text box and press next page, the numbers fill where i want them to but the cells do not recognise them as numbers, therefore conditional formatting doesnt work! Even if I change the cell properties to numbers, this does not remove the error!
Second problem!! If a user forgetts to enter a value in a box, or they wish to edit just one value, and go back into the user form to change a figure, when they press next page, all the values in the column seem to disappear!

I have set up a simple form in excel, whereby people use drop down menus to select the appropriate information (as all data inputted needs to be entered in exactly the same way to allow sorting, counting etc) so I thought drop downs were best. The trouble is the data is carried through to my excel database (on another worksheet) were it is shown in numeric values dependant on how far down the drop down list the select item appears (ie "Fareham" is third on the list, so shows in the database as "3").
I'd very much like my database to be easier to read and actually show Fareham etc, rather than be populated with lots of numbers. I initially tried using IF function (ie =IF(C3=3,"Fareham") but unfortunately two of my drop down lists are too long for this (with 25 and 33 entries respectively).

in Column C, Starting in cell C2 I have a 12 character string of six numbers, four letters, and two numbers. like this:
280838ZNOV11
is it possible to use a Custom Data Validation formula to ensure the user follows this format?

I have done a bit of excel programming last year but have not done any for the last 4 months so I am a bit rusty.

I have a form set up with excel (2003) using vba. I'm doing a check to see if textbox1 is empty, if it is, a msgbox pops up with a warning that "textbox1 needs to be filled out". I click OK and the cursor goes to textbox2. I want the cursor to return to texbox1 without user intervention but can't figure out how. I'm using "Private Sub TextBox1_Exit(ByVal Cancel As MSForms.ReturnBoolean)".
I know it can be done because I did it with vba Access, but I can't seem to find it using vba Excel.

I have created a user form (thanks Datsmart), and now need to place the data that will be inserted in that userfom onto my spreadsheet.
The spreadsheet will have 50 rows, each containing a different project. There will be a button on each row to activate the user form for that specific row. They click the button on the spreadsheet, and the user form opens. They enter the data on the user form, and once they click the "add comment" button on the user form, the data should be entered in the last cell of the row on which the button is located.
Now the complicated part:
The users will use that for to update the project from week to week, but each week's comment needs to go in the same cell, but above the previous comment.
IE:
Week 1
Jan 1: Project lauched
Week 2
Jan 6: Project budget submitted
Jan 1: Project lauched
Week 3
Jan 22: Budget approved
Jan 6: Project budget submitted
Jan 1: Project lauched
The date being the date from the user form, and the comment being the comment from the user form. If the latest date can be bolded that would be a bonus.
They each have to go in the same cell cause all relate to the same project. This same thing will be repeated 50 times for each different project.

I came here yesterday asking for help and was helped immediatly, but I have another question/problem. I got my user form up and running, however I've just been informed that the form has to be able to be printed out. So basically I need this user form with all the data on it and I need it to be printed.
Is there a way to add a command button perhaps that prints out the form with the data on it? (Ex: Imput Data, hit Print command button, have an electronic and hard copy of the information)
