I was wondering if someone wrote a macro or formula to extract URLs located in a bunch of text? I can parse this out but doing some delimiting but that will take longer.

If any of the cells contain text such as "The price is $4.28 per pound" it would strip out everything except the 4.28. This cell may also contain Japanese yen so you can not use the decimal for reference.

Unfortunately, due to passing the file between operating systems it appears that the CR and LF characters are not consistent. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an attendance spreadsheet that shows the employee's absence using the format "X####", where X can be one of the following three values: S(for sick time), P(for personal time), and V(for vacation); "####" is the number of hours absent (can be from 0.25 to 8.0,measured in 15-minute increments, # can be either a digit from 0 to 9 or a decimal point, and there can be from 1 to 4 characters, but must be >0(I'm not worried about data validation yet).Examples are P8.0, V.5 (V0.5), S2.75,etc.
The spreadsheet is laid out such that each row represents an employee, and each column is a workday. After the employee's information are three columns labeled P,V, S. I'm trying to generate a formula that when applied to an employee's row, will display a running total of the absent hours based upon personal, vacation, or sick time taken. We'll call the range "CAL"(Short for calender)
To strip out the numeric characters on the right, I use the formula RIGHT(CAL, (LEN(CAL)-1)). To Determine which column the data should be summed in, I use the formula LEFT(CAL,1). Blank Cells are permitted, in fact most of the row will be blank. Now that I've figured out how to strip out the alpha from the numeric, how can I get the totals? I apologize for writing "War and Peace," but I wanted to be as concise as possible-
I need to make a macro that will find text between "o/" and "/", remove hyphens from the text it found, and then add it to the end of the current cell contents.
I know how to add to the end of current cell contents, but cannot figure out how to grab text between certain characters or replace hyphens and replace with spaces.

The URL references are always located somewhere down in column A after word 'Source:' but can be in the middle of string of text in that row after 'Source:'

The unit "skids" is constant. The answer I am looking for is "127" or "127 skids"
I am trying to sort a column of numbers, and some of the numbers have hyphens in them.
Excel will first sort the non-hyphenated numbers then it will sort the numbers with hyphens.
I would like to be able to sort it all together starting from the lowest first number to the last highest number. I have included an example.

In the example above, I would like to do a vlookup in column C that matches the digits in column A to those in column F, with the output being the corresponding value in column G. I believe it involves the left function but not sure how to really use it here.
I need a way to randomly generate a number( up to hundred trillion) in cell A1 and in cell B1 have the number appear in word form. I do my indoor cricket team stats and I am having some trouble figuring out what formula to use in order to be able to sum a row of numbers where some cells may contain text and numbers or just text.
Please see the attached spreadsheet to understand what I'm talking about.
In the batting tab, when the batter gets out, they lose 5 runs. Outs are noted by St, R, B or C. In terms of runs, the scorers put wides and noballs to the batter on strike which are noted by W or N and this is worth 2 runs. Sometimes the batter on strike will get runs off a W or N so it's noted down as W+2 (which would give 4 runs) etc. So what I need to be able to do in the batting sheet is sum the total runs and count the number of outs.
In the bowling sheet, it's the same story as the batting tab, but I also need to be able to sum the number of extras given and count the number of wickets taken.

Some of them are 3 digit zips and others are 5 digits. I just want to weed out anything with a number leaving the city names.

I'm pulling phone numbers out of text strings. There is text string ("Office:") indicating that the number following is an office number (the number that I need). MID and FIND take care of this. There are sometimes two instances of office numbers in single text string, so adding a second column using the third argument of FIND lets me start another search past the first instance of an office number. We have a bunch of office numbers with the qualifier "(Text)" after the original "Office" but before the phone number. How do I catch these ones?

The problem is that not every cell contains a < symbol, some of them are just numbers, and not every column contains a < symbol either.

I need to find cells containing text (Alpha characters only) in a single column, an return the row(+1 then -1). The column contains Group names (Unknown) , and under each name follows numeric data until the next group name. The cells are not formatted other than BOLD names. I need to exctract the numeric data in groups.
