# Take First Digit From Code And Match To Table?

May 6, 2013

I have a table where

Then I have a set of codes that look like 1ZGM.BA, where the first number/letter relates to a chart

The chart contains approx. 34 different codes. numbers 1-8 and letters A-Z.

Codes look like 1ZGM.BA or A1QL.AA ...I'm only interested in the first character (does not matter if its a letter or number) to decode the product.

The chart looks like
1=Widget Smooth
2=Widget Rough
...and so on.

A=Widget Thick
B=Widget Thin
...and so on to letter Z.

I want to decode the first letter/number of a code that looks like 1ZGM.BA, where the 1 would mean the product is a smooth Widget, and A1QL.AA would equal Widget Thick product.

## Convert 4 Digit Zip Code To 5 Digit Zip Code?

Apr 25, 2014

I have an address (city, state, zip format) in a cell. Some of the zip codes only have a 4-digit zip code which is the way the file was received. I know these zip codes have leading zero. How can I convert these to a five-digit code. Examples are as follows:

Waltham MA 2453
convert to 'Waltham MA 02453'

Boston MA 2210
convert to 'Boston MA 02210'

CEDAR GROVE, NJ 7009-1174
convert to 'CEDAR GROVE, NJ 07009-1174'

TEANECK CITY, NJ 7666
convert to 'TEANECK CITY, NJ 07666'

## Excel 2010 :: VBA Code To Search A Table And Return Value Of A Match

Oct 5, 2012

I have sheet 1 that in cells V5:V20 is a data validation drop down box. In cells W5:W20 I have another data validation drop down box. On sheet 2 I have a table that in column A matches the data in the drop down box's in column V on sheet 1. Row 1 on sheet 2 data matches the data in the drop down boxes in sheet 1 cells W5:W20. What I'd like to do is on sheet 1 Cells Y5:Y20 have a VBA code to lookup the data in columns V and W from sheet 2 and return the value.

## 6 Digit Code To Date.

Dec 8, 2009

I have many dates in a column in a 6 digit format such as:

950223
950224
950225

These dates are Feb 23, 1995; Feb 24, 1995 etc.

How can I convert these dates in the column to 2/23/1995, 2/24/1995 etc?

## Modifying VBA Code To Generate 4-digit Numbers?

Mar 19, 2013

modifying the following VBA code; this code auto-generates 4-digit unique numbers, using zero as one of the starting digit as well. I need the 4-digit numbers NOT to begin with a zero, the 4-digit numbers should only begin with numbers 1-9.

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim Cell As Range
Dim Test As Integer

[Code]....

## Five Digit Numbers That Represent A Persons Code

Dec 1, 2009

In one column (f5:F100) I have five digit numbers that represent a persons code. I have five groups of codes, they are 10000-15000, 16000-19000, 20000-25000, 26000-29000, and 30000-40000. In another column (Column H) I have an "X" saying the are qualified in something.

I am looking for how to write a statement that says answers this question:

How many people are qualified in the codes between 10000-15000.

Ultimately I am going to take this number and divide it by the total number of people in the group to get a percetage of qualified people in the group.

## Purge Rows Based On X Digit Code

Nov 15, 2006

I have a list of data that is copied from another application. Once data is pasted into Excel it is one cell. My challenge is following. I need to extract only the rows that appear below particular 9 characther alfa numeric code which is the first character in a row. This character however only appears sporadically so there is a whole list of data underneath it. See below....

## Color Code Cells Based On Digit Assigned To Name

Jun 21, 2007

I have a spreadsheet with a row for a company name, their offer price underneath that, and a 1,2, or 3 underneath that. In a seperate tab I have the offer prices in order of rank with the company name next to the corresponding price using the Index function. I also need to be able to color code the background of the offer price based upon the 1,2 or 3 associated with each name. I am new to the Index stuff so I need some help putting this one together.

## Seperate 2 Digit Number Into 2 Single Digit Numbers

Apr 3, 2008

I know you can take a number from one cell and combine it with number from another cell and make it one number. What I need to do is the reverse. Take a two digit number in a cell and separate it into single digits in two cells. If you have the number 50 in a cell, then is there a formula that will take the 5 and put it in cell and take the 0 and put it in the cell beside it?

## VLookup To Pivot Table Using Match Function - Returns Error If Can't Find Match Value

Mar 11, 2014

I am having some trouble getting a formula to work. I am building a report that pulls figures from a pivot table in another workbook. I am using a vlookup with match function to get the column index to find the relevant data I want. Where I need to add two columns together I am using sum, with the vlookup & match formulas nested in them e.g.:

=SUM(VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C:\$AQ,MATCH("FAID",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C\$6:\$AQ\$6,0),FALSE),VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C:\$AQ,MATCH("COMM",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C\$6:\$AQ\$6,0),FALSE),VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C:\$AQ,MATCH("BPCM",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C\$6:\$AQ\$6,0),FALSE),VLOOKUP(F13,'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C:\$AQ,MATCH("COMD",'[PIVOT 156.xlsx]PIVOT'!\$C\$6:\$AQ\$6,0),FALSE))

Where:
F13 = Employee number
Column C on the pivot 156 workbook is where the employee number is based.
The Match formula is then getting the column index from the column headings of the pivot table ie. "FAID"

This in itself works fine, as long as it finds a match in the column headings. This is where i get the error as in the above function "COMD" is not in the pivot table. However I need to keep it included as it may appear on a future pivot table. Is there a way of getting the sum function to complete even though later in the formula it can't complete the vlookup? So it will ignore it, or assume the value is zero if it can't find it? The formula probably needs to do this for all the vlookups as some headings may drop off in future pivot tables.

## Check Digit For 8 Digit Number

Jun 13, 2014

How to calculate a check digit in excel. The details to calculate this are as follows:

All variables in the calculation are positive integers.

We take each integer of the pro number and multiply it by a value and sum them to get a total.

An Example: 8 Digit Pro Number: 66988757
Pro Number: 6 6 9 8 8 7 5 7
Position in the Pro Number: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Multiply each digit in the pro number by (10-position) in the number, to achieve a sum.

Using our example pro again:
6*(10-1) + 6*(10-2) + 9*(10-3) + 8*(10-4) + 8*(10-5) + 7*(10-6) + 5*(10-7) + 7*(10-8)
6*9 + 6*8 + 9*7 + 8*6 + 8*5 + 7*4 + 5*3 + 7*2
54+ 48+ 63+48+40+28+15+14 = 310
Take the Sum of the previous calculation and divide it by 11
310/11 = 28

(Actually, it's 28.181818, but since we're working with integers, we truncate everything behind the decimal).

Figure a remainder by multiplying the quotient by 11 and subtracting from the sum.
Remainder = 310 - (28*11) ---> Remainder = 310 - 308 ----> Remainder = 2
Check Digit = 11- Remainder
Check Digit = 11 - 2 ---> Check Digit = 9
Note: if the check digit is 10 or 11, need to subtract 10 from the Check Digit.

## Fill Table By Match Row & Column Headings Of Another Table

Aug 29, 2007

I currently have a table with a range of headings (row & column), and the necessary data for it. On a new worksheet, I have a table with only a few of the headings, and I was wondering if there was a macro that would automaticlly match the headings of the new sheet with the other table, and fill in the ncessary dat, as on the other sheet.

## Code To Move Data From Entry Table To Historical Table By Date

Mar 14, 2014

In the attachment you will see an example of what I am trying to accomplish. What I am trying to do is find VBA code that is either specific to this worksheet or in a macro. When the sheet is opened I enter a date in B2. I then enter data into A7, B7, and C7. What I would like to happen is when the data is entered into A7, B7, and C7 the sheet goes and finds the same date that I entered in B2 and copies that data from A7, B7, and C7 into F7, G7, and H7.

## Find Largest Invoice For Each Individual Identifying Code Number In The Table Without Using A Pivot Table

Sep 8, 2009

Data Table including-

List of Identifying Code Numbers for customer invoices

Multiple repetitions of individual Identifying Code Numbers in list

Various data in table range including Various Values of invoices from different dates for each repetion of Identifying Code Number.

- Wish to find largest invoice for each Individual Identifying Code Number in the table without using a pivot table.

i have tried combining Max and Large functions with Vlookups etc.

## Remove The Last Digit From Each Number, Turning It Into A 5 Digit Number

Mar 2, 2009

I have a column of 6 digit numbers in excel, and I need to remove the last digit from each number, turning it into a 5 digit number. No rounding, just simply remove the last digit. Each number is different. Does anyone know how to quickly and efficiently remove the last digit from each number? I can convert to alphanumeric string if need be...

## If / Then In A Macro - Changing 2 Digit Year Into 4 Digit Year

Jul 3, 2014

I need a macro where I can highlight a column and change all of the 2 digit years to a 4 digit year (actually, some of the 2 digit years are only 1 digit, e.g. "9" instead of "09").

I have an if then statement that I can use in the column after it, but I'd rather change the actual numbers in the original column, rather than adding another column (and having to keep the original, too).

The statement I had was:
=if(A1>=50,1900+A1,2000+A1)

I just copy dragged down to get the cell numbers for the rest of the column... but using A1 was just for an example, here, it's not necessarily going to be in that column. It needs to be just whichever cells I select.

It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I don't know how to word it in a macro.

Starting Column Example:
12

13

14

99

11

[Code] ......

For some reason I can't get rid of the borders...

## VBA - Adjust Pivot Table Included Fields To Match Another Pivot Table

Mar 14, 2013

I have a worksheet with two pivot tables, one of which is visible to the user. Ideally, the user should be able to change the "Row Label" field settings of the visible pivot table and then press an "update button" that then adds the same field to the second pivot table.

Ideally, the ordering of the fields should also be made similar between the two tables, though this is of less priority.

I imagine it would be something in the style of:

"If number of Pivot1 active row label fields = X then
Pivot 2.AddRowLabelField = Pivot1.RowLabelField(X)
end if"

## Change The Date On One Of The Pivot Table And Pivot Table Match

Apr 29, 2006

I have data that develops 3 to 4 pivot table each day. I would like to know if there is a way to change the date on one of the pivot table and have the other pivot tables date change to match with the first pivot table. At this time I am going to all 3 or 4 pivot table to select the correct date. The date is in the page position of the pivot table. I have attached a small sample of the data and the pivot tables.

## Index, Match In Table

Jan 12, 2009

I have a table with the months from B1:M1 & Customers from A3:A35. B3:B35 are transaction numbers. On another sheet, I have a cell, C2 with the name of the month that I type in, I've named it MONTH. I also have a seperate section for each customer that NBVC has helped me populate from another sheet based on MONTH and their actual transactions. At the bottom of the section, I want it to populate from this other table based on the month in the MONTH cell.

## Match Cells And Run Code

Jun 11, 2014

In this workbook Test1.xlsm my active cell (in this case) is "E2" and i am trying to insert the word "INVOICE" in cell "E2" using a macro. Now, the adjacent cell to the left is "D2", i would like that for every cell in column "D" that matches cell "D2" to also have the word "INVOICE" inserted in its adjacent cell under column "E".

[Code] .....

## Using SMALL And INDEX (MATCH) In A Table

Feb 16, 2014

I have a Pivot table (see picture) and in another field I want to be able to type in the Month and Year (e.g. January 2012) and return the worst performer of the 8 suppliers. I have been trying to use SMALL in conjunction with INDEX(MATCH(MATCH)) but it doesn't appear to be working.

I am sure there is a simple solution but it is evading me at the moment.

excel.jpg

This is where I am at with the formula. Maybe I can use the IF function somehow?

=INDEX('Pivot Tables'!B19:I19,MATCH(Summary!G3,'Pivot Tables'!A20:A41,0),
MATCH(SMALL('Pivot Tables'!B20:I41,A5),'Pivot Tables'!B20:I41,0))

## Match Two Columns To Data Table

May 28, 2009

I have a volumes sheet and based on two criteria (in columns) am trying to pull the corresponding value from the April Results Table. I have product type in C2 (this varies down the column) and depot numbers in D2. The table i am trying to match has depot numbers in column A2:A93, and Product type in Row 2 (B2:P2), where the two criteria are matched, i need it to return the corresponding figure. I have tried various combinations of Index and Vlookups but i cant get it to work!

## Match 2 Separate Cells To A Table?

Nov 5, 2009

I would like a formula that will take the info from 2 cells (not adjacent to each other or in the same row) and then look these up in a table giving the answer in the 3rd column somewhere else on the worksheet.

## Match Two Unique Numbers In A Table

Feb 7, 2010

I am looking for a formula that matches two unique numbers in a table based on two numbers that are entered in two other cells. This will be clearer by looking at the example below and the attached.

The goal is to find the number entered for the home field (cell c2) in the "home" row (B5:K5) with the number entered for the away field (cell c3) in the "away" column (A6:A15) and result in the data element where the row and columns come together. The expected result for this example in the attached would be "JPD".

Another example would be if a 6 was in cell c2 and an 8 was in c3, the expected result would be "RBK". I think this can be done by indexing and matching but my memory has gone blank with how this works.

## Index/Match Where The Table Name Is In A Cell

Jan 19, 2009

I have a number of identicle tables, that have all been seperatly named. On a summary tab i am using an index match formula to pull back key pieces of data from the table that is identified by cell B2. So if in B2 their is SCB, i would like the formula to apply to the table SCB. The formula (when useing the word SCB works fine):

## Index And Match From A Pivot Table

May 20, 2009

Need in index and match function from a pivot table. I have enclosed an attachment with the sheets that I use. "Data" - contains the data, "Pivot" is the pivot from the data, and "Output sheet" is the sheet where the cells need to be populated.

Basically what I would like to do is to take the pivot and then match the currency, the time indicator and thereby also fill in the value for the matched cell. I have been racking my brain how to do this and I fail miserably.

## VBA - Writing Table Using Match And Index

Jan 8, 2013

My VBA currently reads a weekly updated table and basically dumps it to the end of a masterfile table...however I need to add a small section that will then go back to the beginning and line by line copy one cell in a single column to the same table but to the previous year.

i.e.
G8:G12345 contains this weeks sales which have already been added to the bottom of the masterfile (along with lots of other data)
A8:A12345 contain a barcode
B8:B12345 contain a date

What I now need to do is lookup the barcode and Date -1 year (so 2013 becomes 2012) and write the same data to column AG(n) for 2012. I could use formulas to lookup the data in the Master Table but I am trying to keep this table free of any formulas.

It's the match and index, and write bit I'm struggling with, looping through the inital data is not causing me any problems.

## Index / Match Subtotal Table

Feb 13, 2013

I regularly use the Index/Match formula. I just noticed, when indexing a table of subtotals, the match doesn't necessarily pull in the subtotal, but rather pulls in the first instance found in the rows that have been subtotaled. Is there a way to index/match the subtotal table to force the match to only view the subtotals, not the rows grouped to create the subtotal? I know I can manually, copy/paste the subtotals to "remove" the grouped data from the index range, but was hoping for an easier solution.

## Converting 2 Digit Year Into 4 Digit Year

Apr 15, 2008

I have 2 digit years (98, 99, 00, 01) that I need to convert to 4 digit years (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001). There is one year per cell. If it was simply a matter of adding 19 or 20 to the beginning of each, I could do that. But since there's a combination of both 19 and 20 that needs to be added and there all intermingled, I'm not sure how to do it.

Can a rule be written to add 19 to the beginning except if the current cell starts with a 0, then add 20? The highest year is 2008 (no 2010 to deal with).

Example:

98 --> 1998
99 --> 1999
00 --> 2000
01 --> 2001

## Index And Match - Display Customer Name Taken From Table

Jul 27, 2014

Look at the image I've attached.

I'm trying to have the table on the right match the first two columns to display the customer name taken from the table on the right.
