I have a list of data that is copied from another application. Once data is pasted into Excel it is one cell. My challenge is following. I need to extract only the rows that appear below particular 9 characther alfa numeric code which is the first character in a row. This character however only appears sporadically so there is a whole list of data underneath it. See below....

I have a spreadsheet with a row for a company name, their offer price underneath that, and a 1,2, or 3 underneath that. In a seperate tab I have the offer prices in order of rank with the company name next to the corresponding price using the Index function. I also need to be able to color code the background of the offer price based upon the 1,2 or 3 associated with each name. I am new to the Index stuff so I need some help putting this one together.

I have an address (city, state, zip format) in a cell. Some of the zip codes only have a 4-digit zip code which is the way the file was received. I know these zip codes have leading zero. How can I convert these to a five-digit code. Examples are as follows:
Waltham MA 2453
convert to 'Waltham MA 02453'
Boston MA 2210
convert to 'Boston MA 02210'
CEDAR GROVE, NJ 7009-1174
convert to 'CEDAR GROVE, NJ 07009-1174'
TEANECK CITY, NJ 7666

I have two name/address lists in separate Excel workbooks. I need to merge and eliminate duplicates by name. One has single name field in format "Lastname, Firstname". The other has a single name field in "normal" format (First and last name). Ultimately I need to end up with two name fields, First and Last, and this I can do.
The problem is in identifying any possible duplicates between the two lists. Why? Because the first list will have names like "Smith, Robert" and occasionally maybe "Smith, Robert J.". The second list will have names like "Dr. Robert J. Smith Jr. PhD", as well as possibly "Robert Smith" or "Dr. Robert Smith".
Using Text-to-Columns will still require a lot of reworking, because the last name won't always be in the same column, depending on whether there's a Dr. or Mr. or middle initial and so forth.
I've looked into the LIKE( ) function which holds some scant hope, but I don't think it will happen for me either.
How I could compare "Robert Smith" to "Robert J. Smith" or "Dr. Robert Smith" or "Dr. Robert J. Smith Jr. Phd"? Imagine all names in column A.

I'm trying to write a VBA script which will delete all rows in my Excel spreadsheet where Column I (which contains a status code) does not contain the word "Completed".
At the moment, I'm doing this the other way round: my script is able to search for entries in Column I which contain the status codes "Pending", "Awaiting Authorisation", "In Progress" etc and delete them. The idea is that when all those rows are deleted, I'll only be left with rows which have a status of "Completed". This works fine at the moment. However, the concern is that if a brand new status code is added to the data file, my script would be unable to pick it up and delete it. This is a small sample of the code I'm currently using (which deletes all the rows with statuses other than Completed):

I have many dates in a column in a 6 digit format such as:
950223
950224
950225
These dates are Feb 23, 1995; Feb 24, 1995 etc.
How can I convert these dates in the column to 2/23/1995, 2/24/1995 etc?

I have a table where
Then I have a set of codes that look like 1ZGM.BA, where the first number/letter relates to a chart
The chart contains approx. 34 different codes. numbers 1-8 and letters A-Z.
Codes look like 1ZGM.BA or A1QL.AA ...I'm only interested in the first character (does not matter if its a letter or number) to decode the product.
The chart looks like
1=Widget Smooth
2=Widget Rough
...and so on.
A=Widget Thick
B=Widget Thin
...and so on to letter Z.
I want to decode the first letter/number of a code that looks like 1ZGM.BA, where the 1 would mean the product is a smooth Widget, and A1QL.AA would equal Widget Thick product.

In one column (f5:F100) I have five digit numbers that represent a persons code. I have five groups of codes, they are 10000-15000, 16000-19000, 20000-25000, 26000-29000, and 30000-40000. In another column (Column H) I have an "X" saying the are qualified in something.
I am looking for how to write a statement that says answers this question:
How many people are qualified in the codes between 10000-15000.
Ultimately I am going to take this number and divide it by the total number of people in the group to get a percetage of qualified people in the group.

I know you can take a number from one cell and combine it with number from another cell and make it one number. What I need to do is the reverse. Take a two digit number in a cell and separate it into single digits in two cells. If you have the number 50 in a cell, then is there a formula that will take the 5 and put it in cell and take the 0 and put it in the cell beside it?

how to set an Excel formula to calculate rounding based on the criteria listed below?
When rounding, digits to the right of the significant less than five (5) will be truncated. Digits to the right of the significant digit greater than five (5) will cause the significant digit to round up by one (1). If the digit to the right of the significant digit is five(5) and the significant digit is even, the digits are truncated. If the digit to the right of the significant digit is five (5) and the significant digit is odd, the significant digit is rounded up by one (1).
Ex:
0.230,0.231,0.232,0.233,0.234 all round to 0.23
0.235,0.236,0.237,0.238,0.239 all round to 0.24
0.240,0.241,0.242,0.243,0.244 and 0.245 all round to 0.24
0.246,0.247,0.248,0.249 all round to 0.25

I have an Excel spreadsheet that is given to me weekly, but I'd like to remove repetitive and empty rows before presenting it to someone. It is set up like this:
Row 1, A1, contains the word Project.
Row 2 is blank
Row 3 is blank
Row 4 is blank
Row 5, A5, contains the word Organization.
Row 6 is blank
Row 7, A7, contains a 6-digit number starting with 3.
Row 8 is blank
(all of the above starts over again (loops) approximately 30 times)
The final row contains the phrase "Grand Total"
*Row 5 is repetitive and is not required. I'd like to delete it.
I have too many empty columns. Getting rid of them (and Row 5) would greatly shorten my spreadsheet.
I am aiming for:
Project
301111
Project
301112
Project
301110
(Repeat until finished)

I have 4 and 5 digit numbers. For the 4 digit numbers, I want to be able to distinguish between the numbers by the last digit. For the 5 digit numbers, I want to be able to distinguish between the numbers by the last two digits.
Example: For 4 digit numbers, I would like to do something with all numbers ending in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. For 5 digit numbers, I would like to do something with numbers ending in 10, 11, 12, 20, 21, etc.
The first step in being able to do this, I guess is distiguishing between 4 and 5 digit numbers, which I know can be done by the number lenght. However, the second part of looking at the last digit or the two last digits I don't know how to do.

What I am working with is a sheet of about 5000 customer appointments going back to the beginning of 2006. A have peiced together a lot of code to format it exactly as I want and to create a pivot table of what is remaining after the rubbish has been deleted.
However I am finding that I need to keep amending and re-running this bit of code, depending on the date range I want to look at. For example the code above will delete all appointments made in 2007.
My question is: is there a way that I could incorporate an input box, whereby excel asks the user for a start date and an end date and deletes any rows outwith that range?
Some important info: All of the dates are in column C, in the format mmm yyyy
I would only need to narrow down to a month - so for example mar 2008 - jun 2008

I have a spreadsheet that calculates percentages and then outputs the results to a pie chart. There are 9 different percentages being graphed in cells A41 to A49. The chart looks weird if any of the percentages end up being 0, so I have the formula set to add 0.00001 to each calculation (so they show up as 0% and display on the chart as 0%, but truly are 0.00001). I would like it so that if any of these 9 percentages ends up being 0 (or really 0.00001) that the row automatically hides and thus won't display on the pie chart. How can I create a macro that automatically runs to accomplish this, and automatically updates as percentages are recalculated.

How to calculate a check digit in excel. The details to calculate this are as follows:
All variables in the calculation are positive integers.
We take each integer of the pro number and multiply it by a value and sum them to get a total.
An Example: 8 Digit Pro Number: 66988757
Pro Number: 6 6 9 8 8 7 5 7
Position in the Pro Number: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Multiply each digit in the pro number by (10-position) in the number, to achieve a sum.
Using our example pro again:
6*(10-1) + 6*(10-2) + 9*(10-3) + 8*(10-4) + 8*(10-5) + 7*(10-6) + 5*(10-7) + 7*(10-8)
6*9 + 6*8 + 9*7 + 8*6 + 8*5 + 7*4 + 5*3 + 7*2
54+ 48+ 63+48+40+28+15+14 = 310
Take the Sum of the previous calculation and divide it by 11
310/11 = 28
(Actually, it's 28.181818, but since we're working with integers, we truncate everything behind the decimal).
Figure a remainder by multiplying the quotient by 11 and subtracting from the sum.
Remainder = 310 - (28*11) ---> Remainder = 310 - 308 ----> Remainder = 2
Check Digit = 11- Remainder
Check Digit = 11 - 2 ---> Check Digit = 9
Note: if the check digit is 10 or 11, need to subtract 10 from the Check Digit.

I am trying out with a code which checks for cell value as "Select" in column IU and then checks for corresponding column IV for value as "0". Please note that "Select" and "0" are populated by formulas. I need the select "Select" and "0" till the next "Select" occurs in column IU and delete the selected range and continue the process until last non empty cell based on column C.
I have written the below code but it doesn't work.
Code:
Public Sub Test()
Dim nRow As Long
Dim nStart As Long
[Code]....
I could have uploaded the excel file that I am working on but did not find any upload attachment option.

I need a macro where I can highlight a column and change all of the 2 digit years to a 4 digit year (actually, some of the 2 digit years are only 1 digit, e.g. "9" instead of "09").
I have an if then statement that I can use in the column after it, but I'd rather change the actual numbers in the original column, rather than adding another column (and having to keep the original, too).
The statement I had was:
=if(A1>=50,1900+A1,2000+A1)
I just copy dragged down to get the cell numbers for the rest of the column... but using A1 was just for an example, here, it's not necessarily going to be in that column. It needs to be just whichever cells I select.
It seems like it should be pretty simple, but I don't know how to word it in a macro.
Starting Column Example:
12
13
14
99
11
[Code] ......
For some reason I can't get rid of the borders...

I have 2 digit years (98, 99, 00, 01) that I need to convert to 4 digit years (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001). There is one year per cell. If it was simply a matter of adding 19 or 20 to the beginning of each, I could do that. But since there's a combination of both 19 and 20 that needs to be added and there all intermingled, I'm not sure how to do it.
Can a rule be written to add 19 to the beginning except if the current cell starts with a 0, then add 20? The highest year is 2008 (no 2010 to deal with).
Example:
98 --> 1998
99 --> 1999
00 --> 2000
01 --> 2001

I need to build a macro which copies 3 rows every day and pastes the row data into an identical sheet. The three rows will have column "D" as =today(). As the days progress the three rows will change accordingly ( tag to the today's date)
e.g. 28/1/2014
28/1/2014
28/1/2014
I need the macro to recognize the date when pressed and copy the corresponding rows of data and paste them into an identical sheet with the same date. The second sheet is an archive sheet. The date will tick over as per the calendar.

Sheet1
A
B
C
D

I suspect there is a fairly easy way to do this, but I cannot figure it out from searching the forums (or rather, I can't get it to work right).

I have medium size sets of data. They have different properties including alpha, integer, date, etc..
I would like to set up a macro to search through the data dump based on criteria asked of me specific to a row and return a random list of entire rows that is approximately 10% of total rows where the criteria matches up with what I have specified.
Site
Building
Room
Tag
100-Emerson Court
A
A101
SS102058
[code].....
So if I choose the site to be "100-Emerson_Court" and there are 400 rows with "100-Emerson_Court" in column A, in a separate sheet called "audit", it will transpose a random 10% or 40 of the rows.

I have a worksheet used for inventory. In Column A is the quantity (to be entered manually). In Column B is the product description. In Column C is the price of the product, and Column D the total price (column C price x the quantity entered in Column A). At the bottom of the worksheet is a grand total. Also, Column B (products) is grouped into subheadings by the supplier each product came from (for example, row 6 has the title PPG, and then rows 7-137 list every product from PPG).
The calculations in this worksheet work fine. What I am trying to do is, using a macro once all of the appropriate quantities are entered in column A, automatically hide every row of product that does not have a quantity. The tricky part is, if no products under a given supplier subheader are entered, the subheader also hides, and if a quantity is entered, that subheader shows. For example, if I have no quantities under any products for PPG, then the PPG subheader hides, but if just one quantity is added, PPG shows. Also, this list will be constantly updated, new products will be put in and taken out all of the time, so I cannot base the macro on a specific number of rows.
