Text File Extraction Macro

I recorder a macro while extracting a text file into a workbook. I had chosen delimited format and OtherChar as "|". Along with these i have also chosen the first field format as text

But where is the text format chossing portion in the below recorder code? i am able to figure out only the delimited and OtherChar part

SaveAs With String Extraction For File Name

I am trying to use the string (sPath), I previously define to preform a saveas function after the script runs.

Code:

These reports are always located in a subfolder defined as "D:DropboxWorkVerification Reportslocation name" where location name is the name that I want to use to save the workbook.

So as an example an excel workbook report generated in the folder:

"D:DropboxWorkVerification Reports!Test"

Would be saved as "!AirCheck AutoTest Report - !Test.xls"

or a report in the folder:

"D:DropboxWorkVerification ReportsHoliday Inn Surfside"

would be saved as: "!AirCheck AutoTest Report -Holiday Inn Surfside.xls"

Right now the code I guessed on isn't working and its generating an error on compile "Can't assign to read-only property".

My column extraction requirements are:

Using the same file you posted we just need column list; when we press ctrl+z the box should come up and have only columns list showing up and buttons like "select all", reset, and cancel should be present.

In this column list all the column headers should be shown under the column list and the interface box(ctrl+z) should be movable like you have already done in the last post

The other condition is that if any new columns gets added anywhere in the first row of the sheet the user interface(ctrl+z box) should show it in column list so when selected it can be extracted to the output file.

In short every thing is similar to the previous file samplecopy v6.1.xlsm you posted but this time only column list is required and all the column headers under it and remove the note which is applicable to previous query.

Data Extraction And Formatting Using Macro?

To start off macro should pick selected columns such as owners and their projects, start date, price Final price, priority and status columns and paste into new sheet

At the same time only pick selected owners(Dave, Brian, Ken, Russell, Ben)data along with their high low, and medium projects then format the price and the final price column (that is to first convert them to numbers, then change it to the currency format and set the decimal place to 0) and then sort owners (AtoZ) along with Price and final price columns (largest to smallest) into a new workbook and to a new sheet in the same workbook with a name to the sheet called Extracted data

note owners may change and new members might get included in the list ( I am not sure if something dynamically can be done about this in the macro)

Macro And Worksheet Name - Data Segregation And Extraction

I created a macro for data segregation and extraction.

My currently flow is:create new worksheets rename the worksheets to e.g., sheet1 to product1, sheet2 to product2, etc manually filter the main data sheet, copy and paste the data into the respective sheets.

How to i edit the codes to allow the renaming of the worksheets to be non-static?

Meaning it doesn't have to be sheet1 to product1, sheet2 to product2

I can have sheet3 to product1, sheet4 to product2 or sheet7 to product1, sheet8 to product2

I feel that my method of data segregation and extraction is kind of rigid. is there any methods i can make it to be more fluid/dynamic?

I have an existing spreadsheet with a column of strings (actually VIN numbers). These numbers correllate to a bunch of text files, that can exist in one of three folders (UsernameDesktop1, 2, or 3) on my desktop. What I need the macro to do is:

1) get the filename from A2 (A1 is a heading row)
2) Find the appropriate text file in one of the three folders
3) Put the folder name into I2
4) Scan the text file for some strings, and copy some data that follows those strings into J2:O2 (I can handle programming this)
5) Close the text file
6) repeat above for the remainder of filenames (about 1800 files)

There are no delimiters in the text files.

Fixing Macro: Only Create Around 53 Text File

First need to create a "Text" Folder in your desktop, then try running the macro. It will create a number of text files inside the "Text" folder.. And they contain the used cells from each row. It's supposed to create 982 text files, with the text name referred to the first column. Problem is, if you try running it, it will only create around 53 text file

Speed Up A Macro (text File Import)

Attached is a workbook that takes an imported text file, inserts rows with text.

It is SLOW, you can watch each line being inserted with the text, I would think with such a small sample dataset it would be much much quicker.

Information: See attached xls file.

On sheet1 is the imported data, sheet2 is a copy of the imported data so one can copy and paste to sheet1 as needed with out re-importing for test purposes and only for this query. (Sheets2 thru 3 are not used otherwise).

There is a command button on sheet one which will run macro "aaa". If you run this you will see how slow it is and exactly what it is doing.

I am simply looking for a way to speed this up, I have some files that are 10 times the size of the sample data and they take 10 or more minutes to run.

Macro To Import Data From Text File

I've never actually had a reason or need to use macros for data import or manipulation. At the moment I'm trying to work on a modeling problem which will output the data in the form of a large text file. The data is divided up using 1000 energy bins, and 1000 timing bins for each tally (unique set of output data) like in this file [URL].....Unfortunately because of the applications for the data I can't reduce the number of bins, and the software being used for the modeling will not provide a more convenient form for the output file.

How to create a macro that can extract this data from the output file and import it into a designated excel spreadsheet. It would be preferable to import each set of tally data from the initial output file into it's own spreadsheet, but as I said I have no experience using macros and I'm not even sure where to begin in making something that would work. or even a basic source for examples

I have a spreadsheet that currently looks like ........

My problem is that I want the macro to create either (a) a seperate text file for each line (1 for line 2, one for line 3 etc etc) or even better (b) create a file for the specific line i am on. For example if i happended to click on D5 and then pressed the macro key it would onyl create a txt file for line 5, same if i clicked on E6, it would only create a file for line 6.

I would be grateful if you could highlight the code you insert into my macro as it may be useful for other reports i run.

find attached an example of the spreadsheet I am working with. Please bear in mind that this is a much simplified version of the version I am currently working on (which needs to have 1000 lines). What I am trying to achieve is allow my team to enter rows of data into the spreadsheet in a format that they will be familiar with - then hit the button on the sheet which will then take a copy of the second sheet (which looks up against the first) and spit it out in a .txt file ready to be uploaded into our computer system.

The main priority that I need to fix is that when the .txt file is opened in notepad it contains a huge amount of blank data rows at the bottom - I assume that it is taking accross all 65536 lines into the .txt where I only want the rows that have data in them in the .txt. At present our computer system will not accept the .txt due to all the blank rows (its limit is 1000 lines).

Macro To Pull Text File- Format And Save

What I am looking to do is create a Dos.bat file to be run in the middle of the night that opens Excel. From there I will need Excel to open a .txt file from a specific folder, format the file, then re-save as an .xls file.

Each of the .txt files in the specific folder is named like the following:
BCKLOG_062807
BCKLOG_062707

and a new file is being generated to the folder each night (with the new date in the filename).

Is there a way I can use the macro to loop through only the new files being placed in the folder, since the old files will already have their .xls counterpart saved ???

If this is not a clear enough description, please let me know and I will attempt to explain better.

Insert Text To One File - Remove Text From Equivalent Column In Another File?

Got a slight problem; I am making a "worker-plan", where you should be able to write a name on one file and have it updated (removed) from the equivalent columns on another file automatically. Here's an example with two separate projects:

Project 1 before and after changes:

Project 2 before and after changes:

Attachment 257369

You can see here how I intended it to work. When one worker is moved from Project 1 to Project 2, that worker should also be removed from those weeks in Project 1. The previous worker from Project 2 should also be removed from those weeks (in Project 2).

Are there any formulas that can make this work automatically? All week numbers will belong to the same columns in all files.

Edit: There are 30 files that should be syncronized, not just two.. I could also gather all files into one file with sheets, instead of having seperate files.

Below is the code I currently use to do the following which creates service reports.

When you click on the command button you can choose any XML file you want to import. This file is copied to a temporary worksheet where i selectively choose cells to populate textbox's which later populate my reports. What I want to do is the same exact thing but with a text file. Not all text files are the same length so it needs to be able to have a range. Here's my working code.

I am looking for a way to show the character location number of a text file, possibly in the first row or a macro that I can run at any given location that will give me the location # I am currently viewing.

Currently, when I open the file I can see the character # at the opening screen (see attached file) but they disappear when it actually converts. I would like to be able to keep the character location ruler once the file is opened in Excel so I don't have to manually count.
