InputBox Validation Rules

Jul 12, 2006

I have 2 input boxes. Input Box 1 asks for user's Date of Birth. Input Box 2 asks for user's name: Pretty simple right! They will loop until following 2 conditions are met: If the user enters something in them OR user presses Cancel. If they are empty and Ok is pressed then keep on looping.

Excel - Date Validation Based On Rules

Nov 29, 2011

Validation on Excel

The User enters the date in cell D5 - I would like excel to validate the date based on the following rules:

1. Format "dd/mm/yyyy"
2. Prevents entering any weekend dates
3. When the user enters the date it can be the previous or current months date range

I have tried several ways in excel but I can't get anything to work. If an error occurs I want an alert message to appear.

Applying Data Validation Business Rules

May 4, 2012

I am in charge of validating 800+ excel reports coming from our vendors each month. I use excel data validation feature everytime I receive a new file. Data Validation feature is native to the excel workbook and cannot be saved to be used with other workbooks (at least; this is what I think).

What is the best way to write a generic validation script that I can run on any workbook. I am thinking somewhere along the lines of a test script that looks for specific data, data format, required data etc.

Here are some of the rules I have to validate against:

Cells in Column 'A' must contain data, reject if not populated.Cells in Column 'B' must contain a specific value (cat, dog, car), reject if other.Cells in Coulmn 'C' must contain (CA,AMM) only if cells in Column 'D' = 'Yes'Cells in Coulmn 'E' must be in proper casingAddress must use U.S. Postal Service standardsZip Code must be 5digits+4Exclude formatting charecters like '( )' from phone numberMinumum age must be less than or equal max ageMaximum age must be greater than Min ageCheck for populated data in cells, else reject file.Date must be in 'YYYMMDD' formatTime must be in HH:MM:SS' or 'MM:SS' formatID must contain 7 integersThis is a sample that represent 70% of files recived.

Data Validation :: Cells Should Contain Specific Word On Input

Jan 13, 2010

I'm trying to make the included spreadsheet as idiot proof as possible as a lot is a stake. I have most functionality working well; however, not I would like to add a little more data validation that does not exist in the normal cell validation rule set.

I need all the input cells to validate that the cell contains the word "BOX" upon entry, otherwise throw a warning. This is because the data entry will be done by barcode and there are a couple barcode labels on each box. The one I want will include the word "BOX" somewhere in the code sequence.

Since a previous function in the Code locks the cell, they wont be able to fix the error. but it will alert them so they can make sure to scan in the proper barcode and not miss the box. Also, once I get something that works in the code, where would I put it? In the same code box as the previous script, underneath it, or somewhere else? So, bottom line, I need a script that check the cell for Text of "Box" otherwise throw a message box.

Setting Rules For Multiple Of Number?

May 29, 2014

I have started to use excel again because I need to create a spreadsheet for maintenance hours done on a vessel. The problem I have right now is, how to set a rule to allow only certain multiple of a particular number to appear. For example,

I have a initial cell value where I have to manually insert the total number of hours that have gone by in the vessel. Let us say that this value is 500 hours.

In another cell which is labeled, "Last Completed", it would have to read at how many hours this job was last completed.

I also have another cell which gives you the time interval before the job is performed again. This value is 250.

So if the current number of hours is 500, the last completed date should be 250. (assuming Maintenance was done at 0 hours and 250 hours).

How do I make it so that the "Last Completed" cell would read 250 until I hit 750 hours which at that point should read 500 Hours.

creating a spreadsheet for work which is almost working a treat Unfortunately, when a row of data moves from one sheet (Queries) to another (Archive), data validation is lost. Initially I thought I daidn't have it set up on the Archive sheet, but on moving it back to queries (by use of a macro) the validation is still not working. how to keep validation rules WITH data when it is moved please? I will upload my file when I get home from work....network restrictions prevent me doing it here!

Some Cells Not Following Protection Rules

Aug 5, 2006

I have set all cells in a worksheet to be protected. I then selected specific cells that are not protected. The problem is that cells A11:D29 except C13:C14 do not follow the protection rules in that I can edit them (but when I right click, I cannot format, just like they're protected). These cells are NOT part of the group that was selected to be unprotected. When I unprotect the sheet and check the protection setting for these oddball cells, it shows as protected. All other protected cells do not allow entry (which is what I want).

Monitor Multiple Cells For Input Event?

May 7, 2014

Below is code. However, I need this to happen for multiple cells.

The cells that I need to monitor are B10, B12, B14.... through B96 and F, J, N, R columns for the same rows. The input values will be stored in cells AM10, AM12, AM14 .... through 96 for the B column results. Then for F, J, N, R will be AQ, AU, AY and BC respectively.

Additionally, when B10 has an input, and the user input box displays for the number of hours, there is a cancel button available, but it does not work. How can I exit the loop and clear contents of B10 if the "Cancel" button is clicked in the dialogue box.

Script To Add Conditional Formatting Rules To Column Of Cells

Dec 2, 2013

I'm having to successfully add three conditional formatting rules, and associated cell interior colour formats if any of the rules are met.

Each time I run my macro, I want to refresh every cell, within a defined range within a Col P, with these rules.

So far, I can add the three rules to each cell, but when I try and add the format colour - for when a rule is met - I keep getting a 'Subscript out of range error'.

(As an aside, is my For / Next loop approach the best one to take to add the formatting to each cell, or can it be written much simpler?)

Here's my script:

VB:
Dim Col_P As Range
Dim Cell_in_ColP As Long
'Set up range of cells to add conditional formatting rules to
Set Col_P = Worksheets("tRIIO Pack Notices").Cells(2, 16).Resize(Lrow - 1)

Randomly Select Cells Based A Couple Rules

Nov 6, 2007

I have a sheet that has 13 players listed in rows down column A. I have 6 columns each representing a quarter in a game. I was wondering what the best way would be to randomly select 5 players in each column and to distribute each cell selection as equally as possible over the 6 quarters.

So what I am doing is having excel designate equal amounts of playing time for each player each game.

Is this possible.

Can I base this off of previous games?

Excel 2010 :: Input Multiple Cells Based On Master Cell?

Dec 9, 2011

I am trying to create a UserForm in Excel 2010 that will look for a part from our database (or on a specific Sheet, possibly a hidden sheet), then add specific data from that part's row into a new line.

More Specifically:

| Part # | Description | Category | SubCategory | Cost | Labor Hours | Weight | Etc |

I want to be able to input the Part #, and have it automatically add specified information to sheets 1 and 2 and those two differ. 1 is our Quote Sheet, and 2 is our bill of materials.

Also, I need each piece of information to go to a specific column (ex. Cost always goes to Column K)

What I have now is a broken UserForm that references a DOC file with a Table, but I need something a good but more complex.

Ideally, what I want is to have 4 ListBoxes where you choose Category --> SubCategory --> Make --> Model then have several CheckBoxes below that would determine whether to add a part (Cost, Labor, Weight).

The reason for this is because we have no need for the Cost or Labor Hours in our Bill of Materials, but need that information for our Quotes. And we generally don't need Specific Dimensions in our Quotes, but DO need them in the Bill of Materials...

Can I make it so that it will insert Pre-Specified information into both sheets at the same time?

How To Validate If Data In A Cell Conforms To Data Validation Rules In The Cell

Oct 14, 2009

I have an Excel workbook which contains data entry fields, which have different types of data validation rules - like Lists, Date, Whole Number.

I do not want end users to remove these data validations as well as the formatting of these cells by doing copy/paste. So, I have implemented techniques mentioned in the following post, and elsewhere - to override the paste functionality and implement PasteSpecial values automatically.

[url]
To keep it simple, I'm only supporting pasting a single cell at a time.

Now my problem is this:
Doing the PasteSpecial values programmatically doesn't prevent the user from pasting values in the cell that violate the data validation rules. So, I can paste a string into a cell having data validation as Whole Number, or a invalid string into a cell having data validation as List.

The following post just suggests disabling paste whenever data validation is present:
[url]

But I would like to allow the paste operation if the value being pasted is a valid value for the cell's data validation.

Shading And Locking Multiple Cells From Input Based On Value In Separate Single Cell

Sep 23, 2013

Now the problem, Each client has a sheet in a workbook. In each sheet, I input the number of days of service available to that particular client in a single cell. We'll say cell [G8] is the cell used for this input in all sheets. If the client has 30 days of service available then we type [30] in cell [G8]. Each sheet is a 100 day template. I want to shade in dark grey and lock from input the days NOT available to the client based on the days of service input in cell [G8]. If 30 days of service are available in cell [G8] then the remaining 70 days on the 100 day template would be shaded dark grey and locked from input. That is, day 31 through day 100 of the template would be locked and shaded. Each individual day has multiple cells in a column. I want to lock and shade each column of cells in each day not available.

Excel 2010 :: 3+ Conditional Formatting Rules For Cell Range Based On Formula From Other Cells

Feb 5, 2013

how to apply conditional formatting via VBA to a range of cells based on input from another range of cells. Obviously this would be easy in Excel 2010, but I'm still using 2003 at the office and it needs to stay in this format to be readable by other users:

For cells M8:EK8, my conditional formatting
condition 2: Formula Is =AND($E$8>=M2,(($E$8-$D$8)>=(N2-$M$2))), color index is 40
condition 3: Formula Is =AND($F$8<=M2,$G$8>=M2), color index is 39
I want to add:
condition 4: Formula Is =AND($H$8<=M2,$I$8>=M2), color index is 40
condition 5: Formula Is =AND($J$8<=M2,$K$8>=M2), color index is 39
and so on

The cells in the range M8:EK8 are blank, they only get colored based on input added to D8 to K8. If there is no input, then the cells should be uncolored.

Application.Input Box Validation

I'm still very new at VBA so some of this will seem very silly, but I've been trying for hours to get this to work right and I keep fixing problems and creating more simultaneously. I've come to the conclusion that I have a fundamental misunderstanding of how this works.

This one actually works fine, but I am including it just in case I've done something less than perfect and someone can correct it.

Positioning Input Validation Message Box

Jan 9, 2008

I am using data validation input messages for data entry tips/definitions. The data entry cells are grouped in small tables (about 5 rows X 6 columns) so when the user clicks on a cell, the data validation input message box pops up next to the active cell. This covers the adjacent cells which need to be completed as well.

If I drag the message box over to right of the input table, the messages for the other cells stay in the new location as well. However, Excel doesn't remember this location the next time the workbook is opened.

Is there a way to set the location of the message box or some other way to achieve the same objective of having text boxes pop up in a defined location when a cell is activated?
