Shading And Locking Multiple Cells From Input Based On Value In Separate Single Cell
Sep 23, 2013
Now the problem, Each client has a sheet in a workbook. In each sheet, I input the number of days of service available to that particular client in a single cell. We'll say cell [G8] is the cell used for this input in all sheets. If the client has 30 days of service available then we type in cell [G8]. Each sheet is a 100 day template. I want to shade in dark grey and lock from input the days NOT available to the client based on the days of service input in cell [G8]. If 30 days of service are available in cell [G8] then the remaining 70 days on the 100 day template would be shaded dark grey and locked from input. That is, day 31 through day 100 of the template would be locked and shaded. Each individual day has multiple cells in a column. I want to lock and shade each column of cells in each day not available.
New task for work today, which involves creating a spreadsheet for all existing members of an organization. I went to the organization's website and copied all of the names & info, then pasted into a blank spreadsheet. All of the entries were separated into their own rows, but all of the information is only in one column. Take a look at my sample:
(NOTE: does not contain actual names or info) Book1.xlsx
This sample only contains 5 entries, but my actual list contains about 200; if it had just been the 5, I would have been fine with manually separating the information, but for 200 entries I need something much faster. You'll notice in the sample that the company, person, address, phone number, email, and website (when there) are not separated by anything. I know that using Text-to-Columns, I would technically be able to achieve what I need using the Delimited option, but I can't imagine this working without separators. I thought perhaps there might be a way to separate them based off font changes or something? Or maybe some way that I can insert a semi-colon or some kind of separator between the necessary data?
While the font is Arial for the majority of the entries, in terms of font changes: company font size is 12 and color is navy blue; the person's name is size 18, bolded, and dark grey; the address & phone number are size 9 and the color is light gray; and finally, the email & website are also size 9, but navy blue in color. However, you'll notice that two of the five entries are formatted differently. This is because formerly, the entire cell & its text were a hyperlink to the email. I went ahead and removed these hyperlinks, simply using a "Remove Hyperlink" macro walk through I found on the web, but now these cells are uniformly set to Calibri and size 11, my default font setting.
I want to enter a number in cell, select a value from a drop-down list, and have another sheet updated with that info. For example, on sheet1 cell A1 = $900, A2 = Western Region (drop-down list). Sheet2 would have a list of values that would update based on values entered in sheet1:A1 and sheet1:A2. Is this possible using formulas or do I need to use VBA?
I am trying to create a UserForm in Excel 2010 that will look for a part from our database (or on a specific Sheet, possibly a hidden sheet), then add specific data from that part's row into a new line.
I want to be able to input the Part #, and have it automatically add specified information to sheets 1 and 2 and those two differ. 1 is our Quote Sheet, and 2 is our bill of materials.
Also, I need each piece of information to go to a specific column (ex. Cost always goes to Column K)
What I have now is a broken UserForm that references a DOC file with a Table, but I need something a good but more complex.
Ideally, what I want is to have 4 ListBoxes where you choose Category --> SubCategory --> Make --> Model then have several CheckBoxes below that would determine whether to add a part (Cost, Labor, Weight).
The reason for this is because we have no need for the Cost or Labor Hours in our Bill of Materials, but need that information for our Quotes. And we generally don't need Specific Dimensions in our Quotes, but DO need them in the Bill of Materials...
Can I make it so that it will insert Pre-Specified information into both sheets at the same time?
I have an excel sheet which will be password protected and only opened as Read-Only. There are 3 cells which have a dropdown list associated to select YES or leave blank. When YES is selcted in any of the 3 cells i want to lock the other 2 cells.
I am creating a Spreadsheet to work with a game which I am designing. I want to create a combat calculator which will generate formulas based on which class a person chooses to be, and their choice of weapons, armour and other equipment (makes things a lot easier for me to visualize). I have created the first worksheet which will act as the interface where users can input their character configurations and a second worksheet where all of the data is stored, included items and their values.
Assuming that on the interface I have cell A1 which will let the user select their class (Warrior, Archer, Sorcerer). I also have cells B1 = Helmet, B2 = Body Armour, B3 = Leg Armour, B4 = Feet Armour, B5 = Hand Armour.
I would like cells B1:B5 to create a Data Validation based on the class which is selected in A1.
E.g. IF A1="Warrior"; B1 = A list of Melee Helmets, B2 = A list of Melee Body Armour... etc IF A1="Sorcerer"; B3 = A list of Magic Leg Armour...
I have managed to do this with the following formula, but only if the data is stored in the same sheet. Cell B1 =IF(A1="Warrior", =meleeArmour1, =IF(A1="Archer", =rangeArmour1, =magicArmour1)) Cell B2 =IF(A1="Warrior", =meleeArmour2, =IF(A1="Archer", =rangeArmour2, =magicArmour2))
[NOTE] =meleeArmour1 represents the range of cells where the Melee Helmets/Head Armour is stored. =magicArmour2 represents the range of cells where the Magic Body Armour is stored.
The group cell names do not seem to work if they are on a different sheet, nor does it work if I replace the group cell name (=meleeArmour1) with the full formula (=Sheet2!A$1$:A$10$)
I have a worksheet entitled 'Data'. In this worksheet there is a table consisting of 4 columns plus relevant data:
Project Benefit Type Delivered or Enabled Benefit
PJ1 Financial Delivered Saving of $4M over 24 months.
I have been trying to create a formula that will enable me to pull data from the 'benefit' column(column D) so that the cell contents populate in a single cell in a table in a different worksheet.
Financial - Delivered Financial - Enabled Tech - Delivered Tech - Enabled Green - Delivered Green - Enabled
So, as an example, I am hoping that a formula can be created which pulls the text from relevant cells in column D when criteria from columns A, B and C are met e.g. Tech benefits that are Delivered in PJ2 would populate cell E3 ('Tech -Enabled') in Table 2 with:
I'd like to be able to drop one table of data into a workbook that already has sheets of two or more master tables, and two or more report pages. A formula on the report pages would compare aspects of the data to the master tables, and report the data on the correct sheet based on certain criterion. The reports would not have blank spaces, need to be sorted further, etc.
My initial impulse was to think in terms of ol' verable VLOOKUP, but I can't figure out how to get the report formula to move on to the next line of the data table if it doesn't find a match for the first line - short of adding another VLOOKUP (and another, and...), which is totally impractical given that the data table will likely have 20,000+ lines.
I have a spreadsheet that has a couple of columns that ask for "Move In Date" and the other "Move Out Date". These dates are used in other calculations so there can be only one or the other in each row. I have users that mistakenly either leave both blank or both popluated. Is there a way to stop them with a message telling them that a date needs to be entered or deleted, maybe with data validation?
I have a sheet labled Parsed and a sheet labled Prices. The Data on the Parsed sheet is in W2:W1000. the data on the Parsed sheet, can have anywhere from one value to up to ten values in it. (again all sparated with a space.) the data is separated by a space between each number value. I am trying to find a way to take the values from Parsed!W6 for example and separate the data into the prices sheet in to different columns. Some cells may be blank.
cubspline(Xval As Double, XRange As range, YRange As Range) As Double
The problem is that XRange (and also YRange) is in different areas of the spreadsheet. I want to combine these areas into one range which I can pass on to the cubspline function. What is the easiest way of doing it? I'm looking for something like a "union" function for ranges in Excel.
I have a query in relation to locking cells to disallow editing based on a dynamic range. The VBA code I have thus far is this :
Sub PasteForecastWO() rowarr = Array(10, 26, 28, 69, 72, 79, 81, 87, 89, 104, 106, 114, 116, 122) For Each ce In Range("S8:AD8") If ce = "ACTUAL" Then For i = LBound(rowarr) To UBound(rowarr) Step 2 Range(Cells(rowarr(i), ce.Column), Cells(rowarr(i + 1), ce.Column)).Value = Range(Cells(rowarr(i), ce.Column), Cells(rowarr(i + 1), ce.Column)).Value Next i End If Next ce End Sub
What I would like to do is lock the range that applies as the variable "ACTUAL" moves or changes along the range S8:AD8. I have attached the relevant sheet so that you may get a clearer picture.
I have values on master sheet and want to link those values to source documents in the same workbook. But the values on master sheets are made up of more than one value on another sheet.
For example on master sheet I have $137,000 that is made up of values in P7 + Q7 + P57 + Q57 on source sheet. If user wants to see where this number is coming from; the user will click the number to go to source document.
On a single valve I linked to the source sheet to a single cell. One thing I was thinking, using conditional format, so if one of the cells is selected in source document the other cells that combine the total of the master sheet cells should be highlighted, just my 2 cents.
I'm trying to take the sum of multiple cells and return it to one single cell using the Vlookup
For Example I want to match the ID numbers from one spreadsheet and use the list of codes to return the value of the sum of all matched numbers. So in this example I would want the number 65 in one cell...
I am having trouble with my VBA code, it hides groups of rows (projects) based on the contents of corresponding cells above. these have either 'yes' or 'no' in them (indicating if the person is active in that project). The Yes/No is formula based from another sheet.
what I am trying to do, is have particular cells, withing the projects rows, locked (as they are also populated by formulas) but have other cells open for editing.
when I try and do this i get an error with my VBA, i am assuming that as cells are locked, the VBA is prohibited form hiding inactive projects/rows. i tried an addition at the bottom but this hasn't worked
Code: Sub Worksheet_Calculate() Dim i As Long, StartRow As Long, EndRow As Long StartRow = 13
I am working on my spreadsheet and was wondering if anyone knows if cells can be Protected or Unprotected based on the value of another cell?
Here is what I am looking for:
If cell "A16" on the "Input Sheet" equals AR then Protect Cells J16, K16, L16, M16, N16, and O16
If the value of A16 on the Input Sheet DOES NOT equal AR then leave those cells unprotected.
Has anyone ever done anything like this? On my spreadsheet it would allow the user to skip the unnecessary cells as opposed to having to Tab through them. Not a big deal but definitely would be a time saver and a lot more user friendly.
If you have any questions or concerns just let me know. I will wait to see what the Excel Guru's come up with.
I have one row per day of the month in column A. each row has one or more cell entries in column B .... to column (variable) Right now I use a formula =concatenate(B2,CHAR(10),C2,CHAR(10),D2.....) for as long as it has to be, but this has its limits and requires a lot of editing as the number of filled cells for each row vary.
would it be possible with some macro code to manage the variable number of cells and then insert verything, wrapped text, in a single cell (can be cell Bx or a cell in a new column added next to the dates column) As soon as everything is in the single cell, the original data cells can be emtied. I can record a macro but that does not allow me to manage the variable number of cells . a small sample file attached.
I have lot of data in three columns like this. The first column is "Name", the second is "Comment" wherein I want the macro to write some comment, the third one is DOB. The problem is that the names in column 1 repeats many times. I want a macro to write in column B "either Old or Older or Oldest" based on the Name and DOB. Thus David with DOB 13 Sep 1982 be marked Oldest in Column B and David with DOB 25 Aug 1988 be marked Older and David with DOB 24 May 1990 be marked Old. Similarly William and Rita should be marked either old or older or oldest. As the data are enormous I do not want to refer the actual name in the programming. I want to call them using a variable in programming.
NameComment DOB David 25 August 1988 David 13 September 1982 David 24 May 1990 William 24 March 1980 William 25 July 1987 William 13 August 1989 Rita 17 July 1990 Rita 24 April 1989 Rita 13 June 1988 The example file is attached
I have been sent an export from Outlook in a .csv file. The Body of the Email is all contained in one cell for each row (each email detail) and is in the following vertical format within the cell:
Column Header blank row Data blank row Column Header blank row Data blank row
....and so on. I've tried to do something using Transpose and Text to Columns, but I've not been able to successfully seperate out the data into a useful format in Excel. The data are responses to a website and contain Account/Contact information which I hope to be able to import into a CRM system as new Leads. way of extracting this information, so that I can get each row into a format that gives me the column header with the related data below, as you'd normally expect to see in Excel?
formula to separate information in a single cell into multiple columns. I have hundreds of rows of data, so a formula to quickly separate the information into individual columns would be good. Below are a few lines of data.

I have been assigned the task of creating our new integrated time and leave sheet in Excel 2007, previously we had 2 sheets, one for times and one for leave.
The problem I have is that I need to protect the authorisaton columns therre are 2 one for AM and one for PM, so that only Managers can authorise leave by inputting a password and then initialing the leave.
What I then need to do a the end of each month is for the manager to be able to click a Button with a Macro which will then lock the whole worksheet so that employees cannot change their times after the manager has checked the sheet.
I can lock the authorisation columns and password protect but I have to enable protection on the sheet, when I do this I cannot then figure out a way of running a macro which will then protect the whole sheet and assign a password to it so it cannot be changed after being checked and signed off.
I have tried to create a macro (button) to remove the protection on the 2 columns and then reapply protection to the whole sheet with another button but to no avail.....
If anyone has any suggestions I would be eternaly greatful.
Passwords on the sheet for the different buttons are abc or cobra.
