Vehicle Routing With Two Dimensional Loading Constraints?
Jul 9, 2014
Whenever or not I should use VBA or ordinary formulas in Excel in order to do Vehicle Routing With Two-Dimensional Loading Constraints case. What I need is when I have coordinates of four bottom-right corners:
X Y
24 0
30 0
10 24
8 38
2L-CVRP, what I want to know is: In reality I have set of 200 coordinates (x,y) and I need to search for lowest y (its (24,0) and (30,0)) then I choose one with maximum x ((30,0) in this case). Then if for some reason item cannot be packed there, then I shall go to next lowest y, which is 24 giving coordinate (10,24), if I cannot use this corner, I search for next lowest y with as high x as possible, etc. BTW I use Evolver in order to find satisfying solution.

I've been a lurker on this forum for a long while and it's always been able to provide me with lots of excel tips, and for that I am grateful! But this time I have a question that I can't find the answer to here, or anywhere else on the web after a few hours of looking. As a note, I'm not very experienced with Excel, probably somewhere between novice and intermediate.
What I need to create is a 2-dimensional array of data. The vertical (y-axis) are the tools, and the horizontal (x-axis) are the jobs. Where the y-axis and the x-axis intersect, will be the quantity of tools needed for that specific job. There are almost 1500 tools, and 100 jobs.

im working on a VoIP company, and having a hard time to figure out a result on a little time.
the problem is finding a "least cost routing" wherein you will find the cheaper to higher price, and putting the results on a designated columns:
I am including an image, sorry if the image seems to be heavy and large:
as you can see: Column C contains the sale rate for the client, while Columns D to I, are the buy rates from our source carriers.
While the columns K to P, are the columns where should one source carrier should be fitted base on the buy rates, that is best fitted to the sale rate.
Red marks=are not suitable or non-profitable buy rate for the sale rate.
Sorry for the bad english, but i hope you get what i mean. this is only a sample from our Internal data.

On the attached excel sheet I have a 5 week period, and two overall pages (one for the drivers, one for the trucks). My question is this. Drivers may drive different vehicles throughout the week, how, on the Truck Overall page do I calculate the formula so it deciphers each truck and puts the correct information into the right boxes?

I have a lookup table (see attached file) which holds the min & max value for a vehicle, the min & max size of the engine and the premium. I want a function that will search for the value of the vehicle (e.g. 100000 in cell H5) within the min value and max value columns as well as the engine size (e.g. 2000 in cell H6) in the min size & max size columns return the premium from the associated premium (which should be 13,200).

I need a function to return a boolean T/F to check if a 17 character string meets the following checksum validation.
This is for Vehicle Identification Numbers for vehicle made after 1981
I need a VBA function that I can call multiple times in a workbook,
Example =VIN(A1) which returns True or False.
First, find the numerical value associated with each letter in the VIN. (I, O and Q are not allowed.) Digits use their own values.
A->1B->2C->3D->4E->5F->6G->7H->8
J->1K->2L->3M->4N->5P->7R->9
S->2T->3U->4V->5W->6X->7Y->8Z->9
Second, look up the weight factor for each position in the VIN except the 9th (the position of the check digit).
1st->82nd->73rd->64th->55th->46th->3
7th->28th->1010th->911th->812th->713th->6
14th->515th->416th->317th->2
Third, multiply the numbers and the numerical values of the letters by their assigned weight factor, and sum the resulting products. Divide the sum of the products by 11. The remainder is the calculated check digit. If the remainder is 10, the calculated check digit is the letter X.
Finally, if the calculated check digit did match the 9th digit of the VIN entered by a user, the VIN passed the checksum test. It failed the checksum test otherwise.

I am reposting this as my previous post was deleted.. i dont know the real reason for the same...
The raw data in the attachment contains:
C1 to AI1 refers to vehicle numbers.
Column A refers to Shift Time
Column B refers to Number of vehicles required in that particulars Shift time
The output:
As you can see in the Sheet Output Required, fields marked in the color light green are manually allocated vehicles numbers available and required according to shift time
The logic used behind allocation is the same vehicle should not be used before or after within the span of 3 hrs, the gap between the vehicle usage before and after should be minimum 3 hrs. And the maximum time gap can be any value.
Vehicle usage can be maximum (ie. You can use the same vehicle by rotating within 24 hrs but keeping in mind that it is not used before 3 hrs).
 all the available vehicles must be used before the same used vehicle is used in the new shift... ie. You should utilize all the vehicles before one is duplicated

Is this is just an example, but the logic should hold true. Data for example is in A1:C5. I want to use a SUMIFS statement that will look at type of Vehicle and Dates. So for the example in cell D1 (I wanted to add only Cars sold between May 1-2), but my current equation = 0, where I am expecting 20
=SUMIFS(C1:C5,B1:B5,B3:B4,A1:A5,A1)

I'm looking for a function which will check if the cell value is a valid UK registration number plate format.
True if it is, False if it isn't.
I've tried myself and had a look around but am unable to find a solution to my problem.
If also possible, if false, to make to necessary amendments to make it a valid format...ie If some lower case values, make them upper case, if there is a space entered, remove it, if a O is entered instead of a 0, correct it and show the corrected value when the function is run. For all that it can't do that with, then leave as False.
I understand the second part may not be possible, just identifying whether or not the value is a valid format. I have something similar which does this for UK postcodes, but am hitting a brick wall trying to do the same for UK registration number plates.

I am trying to maximize fantasy football points based on projected points scored, salary and positional limits.
I have multiple sheets dedicated one per position (i.e. sheet named "QB", sheet named "RB", etc.). The relevant columns are: Name; FPT (projected points); Cost
NOTE: I have combined all the data into "sheet1" if necessary.
I need a VBA program or Solver to diagnose the largest possible combination of projected points based on the following constraints:
Constraint 1: Total value must be less-than or equal to $1,000,000
Constraint 2: Total players used must be equal to 10
Constraint 3-?: Of the 10, 2 must be QB, 2 must be RB, 2 must be WR, 1 must be TE, 1 must be DEF.....the other 2 can be RB, WR or TE
Obviously, each player can only be used once and I'm not sure if Solver can abide by that constraint, nor do I know how to apply the others. I'm thinking VBA could work, but I'm not familiar enough with the language to hammer out the code.
I have a small macro that downloads some data from a website and tweaks it Daily fantasy cheatsheet.zipa little, but I hope that won't affect any computations involving those values.

I have a maximization problem. I have to maximize Kitchen Sets given available materials. I have 11 different Kitchen Sets and every set requires different material.I have attached an excel spreadsheet for making the problem more clear.
I have T1;T2;T3;T4;M1;M2;M3;M4;O1;O2;O3;O4;Z1;Z2;Z3;Z4 different materials. Every kitchen sets requires one material from T which is fixed (for example T2), one material from M which is fixed again (for example M3), one material from O which is fixed (for example O1) and one material from Z, which is fixed (for example Z4).To complete a set the sum of all materials used should equal to 4. I have some constrains T1+T2+T3+T4<=2 it is the same for M1+M2+M3+M4<=2, O1+O2+O3+O4<=2 and Z1+Z2+Z3+Z4<=2.
So basically my goal is to say which materials should I keep in stock in order to maximize the Kitchen Sets.

I am trying to write VBA code that will list all possible combinations of data contained in a worksheet based on a few conditions. I have a list that varies in length. In the first column is a list of numbers denoting a particular course number. In the second column is a list of numbers denoting the specific class number for the course. 2 1
2 2
2 3
3 1
3 2
3 3
3 4
3 5

This is the code where you click on a cell that has been input from Data Validation, it gets a pop up textbox showing the text input. One drawback I see here is that when the sheet is protected, one needs to tick 'Edit Objects' in 'Allow all users of this worksheet to:' window to get the textbox to pop-up otherwise no textbox is shown.
So this leads to the accessed user to have the ability of deleting and moving the textbox in the protected spreadsheet. Do you have any idea to Protect the sheet, Get the textbox to pop up,
Disallow user to delete/move the textbox.

I have data for 500 companies over 10 years, in three criterions: EPS, DPS & PX (i.e. earnings, dividends and price).
For each company I have four lines recording the data, and given a letter code indicating how the change in dividends and earnings have been according to the following
(Examples)
DD-ED = Dividends Decreased & Earnings Decreased
ND-EI = No Dividends & Earnings Increased
As can be seen below this code is present for each company
What I need help with is some sort of lookup function which takes the average of the price changes (which is given in numerical values) only for the companies which code is equal to the code in the reference field.
So something like: =AVERAGE(IF((MOD(ROW(D2:D2353)-ROW(D2)+1,5))=0,IF(D2:D2353"",D2:D2353))) (currently counting every 5th line, since there is 4 lines between respectively PX/DPS/EPS for each company) But with a constraint indicating only to include the value in the calculation if the codes are the same (e.g. "DI-EI" = "DI-EI").
So that the value, which is currently 20.96% (which now includes ALL price values), would only include those for the respective group (in this case, companies in the DE-EI group).

I'm trying to use solver to find the minimum value of a cell by changing 5 separate cells. These cells are subject to a set of constraints that are formulae. On top of that I have a large number of these solve's to run (The spreadsheet is creating randomly distributed data to form a Monte Carlo simulation). Therefore I am referencing the formulas using the ActiveCell, Offset() function. For some reason when running this code none of the values are changed. Also I changed the UserFinish to false so I could see what solver was doing at each solve, It stops at the correct cell (one after the final cell) but without me having to confirm it each time.

I need to create a spreadsheet that will calculate the difference between two dates and show the result in days. The complicated part is that weekends (Sat and Sun) need to be ignored and any time after 4:30 pm needs to be treated as the next business day. I have been trying to look at similar questions in forum and use the WORKDAYS function with little success.
Example:
A1- 14/08/09 4:40 p.m.
B1- 17/08/09 9:10 a.m.
I need the answer (B1-A1) to show up as 0. But if the time in A1 was changed to 4:20 p.m. than the answer should be 1 day.

The workbook has two sheets. Sheet1 has numbers in column A going down the sheet and dates in row 2 going across the sheet starting in column B. Sheet2 is similar but the column and rows do not line up with sheet1. I would like the macro to look at the numbers in column A and the dates in row 2 on sheet1 and find the same match of number and date in sheet2 and enter the value from sheet2 into the appropriate cell in sheet1.
I understand it can be done in a formula with index and match but I would prefer a macro.

i have a sheet in template i use in preparing bid packages for electrical installations.it relates to locating in a (building) grid the locations of the motor control (mcp) and power panels (cdp).my desire at this point is to find a way to local a unique value (mcp or cdp) in a 2d grid and then return the column and row names from the same grid. eventually this information will populate a table of all the mcp's and cdp's with their locations.
my sticking point appears to be finding a unique value in a 2d table. this value can be anywhere in the table, not just the first column.
i've tried the lookups and index/match. match fails when i extend the lookup_array beyond the first column.
not sure if this is even possible.

I have attached a sheet that contains a pretty simple formula that helps me figure out the dimensional weight of a shipment. It is just a simple vlookup that returns the proper rate (Column H) depending on DIM Weight and Zone. It works great.
The issue I'm running into is with various exceptions that I need to put into the formula. The criterias that I need to put into the rate formula (Column H) are:
1-If the one of the Length (Column A), Width (Column B), and Height (Column C) is greater than 60 I need to add 7.50 to the the returned lookup value in Column H.
2-The second longest side the Length (Column A), Width (Column B), and Height (Column C) is greater than 30 I need to add 7.50 to the the returned lookup value in Column H.
3-If the grith (2x Column C + 2x Column B) is greater than 130 I need to add 45 to the the returned lookup value in Column H.
I'm working with a few IF formulas but I can't seem to get all of them to work at the same time. Does anyone have any thoughts?
