Is there any way to nest a vlookup within an If statement that is capable of looking through 1 column on a separate worksheet for any of the following words "BASE" "MID" or "TOP" and then return a serial number in a separate column?
Im just going to start with the tables that will help show what i am trying to do...

Ok so say i have these two tables...i want to be able to look at the file # of line 1 in table 1, go to table 2 and return the id where the date from table 1 is between the start and stop in table 2. ie...in that example it should return id "2".
Column A contains numbers that repeat themselves. in column B codes are assigned to each number. numbers in column A may have multiple codes in column B. but are unique for each instance the same number may appear in column A.
what i'm trying to do is.
have the numbers in column A show only once and then have the codes for the corresponding codes appear each in seperate columns rather than all in one.
I have a somewhat convoluted problem. I am trying to develop a QA tool that compares data from a user-created spreadsheet against data from an automated spreadsheet. From my (admittedly small) understanding of Excel, this would be easy to do using VLOOKUP, however there will not be any unique IDs between two columns.
To better visualize this, imagine on Sheet A the following:

Essentially what I am trying to do compare data from a manually filled in sheet against data that would output the above, and make sure that everything matches up correctly. .
What formula should I use so that it will find the match with a 6-column table (with every other column containing the 'reference' items, so I can't use vlookup)
So that it will return the value next to the match
(instead of returning gibberish, will return a number instead)

Okay had that table setup that way because I needed separate tables ("linked" comboboxes")
So I just altered it so that the vlookup range changes dependent on the value of combobox 1.
In this example there are two examples of AA, but they each have a different animal, so they need to remain separate. BB is listed twice, but has the same animal, so the total for them is 5. I am looking for a way to express this with with a formula. I tried using Sumifs, and it sort of works, but I end up with BB listed twice, and I don't need that to happen....
I have a similar problem, though maybe a little more advanced. I would like to do the exact same, but when looking at the sample.xls in the referenced thread, my data can have zero values/blank in the C-column. For instance, if C6 is blank, then the formula will not add the value in the next row. In many cases this would easily be solved through sorting, but the structure of my sheet do not allow for this. So what I am looking for, is a formula for only regarding rows where the cells in column C is <>"".
Maybe this cannot be done in a single formula, and has to be solved through VBA, but having seen some incredible solutions here, I thought I'd give it a try.

I want a formula that allows me to see how different dates Mr X has visited in each month. So in August he has visited 8 times BUT only on 5 different dates.
In the case of Mr Y I want the formula to give the answer 5 (even though he has visited 6 times in total, he has visited on only 5 different dates).
In the case of Mr X in September, the answer to the formula would be 2, since has visited on 2 different dates in September.
I've been using the following formula from the xldynamic website detailing sumproduct usage as a base for retrieving uniqe instances in a data series. I've been trying to modify the formula to allow me to utilize one additional criteria.

I need to count how many unique values in column a have every row in column b the same value. So counting for yes values, PR would equal one but DN would equal zero.
I used this formula to find out how many unique files had yes values, now I need to find out how many files only have yes next to them.
For example, each job has a specific ref number and within that job ref number there is a number of lines of data, some of which we ignore and some of which we include. Each job will have a planning time using an old methodology (Planning A), a planning time using a new methodology (Planning B) and an actual time. There are a few other variables too such as the category of work.
I am trying to count the number of each unique ref no. within the sub category of work I am looking at (there are circa 50 sub categories of work). Each ref no. will only have 1 combination of work cat and sub category.

Every other line is the planned production and the others are filled in after as the actual production I have a sumproduct formula right now that looks if the line is considered planned production and then if there is a number greater than 0 planned on that day. The idea is to tell me the number of Stations scheduled to run that day.
Here is my problem- if a station is running two different products it gets counted twice. I am trying to find a way that once a station is counted it only gets counted once even though they are on seperate lines. I've got a few different methods to just count unique values with specific criteria in the same column, but I just can't make anything work for specific criteria in another column.
I have a problem which is beyond my capabilities. I need excel to sum amount column (See example table below) by unique values in company column then conditionally sum those values based on the year of investment, stage of company and finally, the kicker, the summed Amount by unique companies value has to be less than a certain threshold.
For example, I want companies in Stage Column of Exit only and in year 2004 only BUT only if the sum of the Amounts by unique company values is less than 100. So in the example table this would return 0. I have code and criteria written to sum unique values based on similar criteria such as sum if company Stage is Seed and Year is 2004 but for the life of me I can't seem to make the jump further.
For Unique values I used this function: =SUMPRODUCT(($B$2:$B2=Year04)*($D$2:$D2=StageS)*($A$2:$A2=$A2))=1 Then: =DCOUNTA($A$1:$D9999,2, Criteria) or =DSUM($A$1:$D9999,2, Criteria)
This along with criteria explained before returns the number of unique companies that are Stage=Seed and Year=2004 or sum of amounts with that criteria.
I am trying to adapt this technique to get what I want but to this point have been unsuccessful. My best guess is that I will need to create an array of the unique companies (New Sheet column A) with the Summed Amounts (New sheet column B) and then run functions again with the easier equations and criteria? I am trying to avoid combining company records as each investment needs to remain individual and there are 16000 records. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to count/sum unique values in a Range, base on a criteria excluding Blank cells. Basicly I'm using the Formula Below:

Let me Put to you an example for you been able to understand my problem.
Example considering Range "C2:C20" exluding blank cells
(1) - To count unique values =SUMPRODUCT((C2:C20"")/COUNTIF(C2:C20,C2:C20&""))
(2) - To count unique values based on criteria in range "B2:B20" =SUMPRODUCT((C2:C20"")/COUNTIF(C2:C20,C2:C20&"")*(B2:B20="E"))
(3) - To sum unique values on "E2:E20" based on same criteria =SUMPRODUCT((C2:C20"")/COUNTIF(C2:C20,C2:C20&"")*(B2:B20="E")*(E2:E20))
They all work fine. But I need to insert a merge at Row 10 for better reading purposes and the (2) and (3) are returning (#DIV/0). The (1) formula still work's. I just don't know what to do guys ....

I have a list, 50000 rows long with phone numbers and the service provider it belongs to. I want to extract some of this information. I'm looking for a formula which can give me the following: How many unique phone numbers is there in column B from service provider number 4 and 5? The following pic is just an example of how the list is compiled. How can I get sum up only the numbers from 4 and 5 and not the whole bunch? If I use this formula
Try this formula. Array formulas will have curly brackets {} emcompassing the ENTIRE formula. You do not add these, you Enter the formula with Ctrl+Shift+Enter and Excel will add them (details: Array formulas). Many more Excel Formulas =SUM(N(FREQUENCY(D1:D51112,D1:D51112)>0)). I sum up all the unique phone numbers, but I don't know how to set a "if service provider is 4 or 5" if you get what I mean. This was the first part. The second part is finding out how many times each unique number from service provider 4 and 5 is listed.
