Wildcard In Path- Relative To Current Sheet
Dec 5, 2008
i am trying to do, i have a spreadsheet with 100+ tabs all with the day of the year. Jan1,Jan2,Jan3...Feb23,Feb24,Feb25... etc etc. I want to pull all of the same values for each of these sheets on a single tab (using vlookups, hlookups and reformatting the information for a macro to input all of this data into a database)
My question is, how can I put a entry form, lets call it a1 and fill in the tab i want the contents of the page to update with? For example, if i input "Jan18" in a1, all formulas on the page look for their source information on A1.

I have a WinForm, which I'm calling via VBA's Shell command:
Code:
Sub Button1_Click()
Shell "C:TemplateFuncitons.exe " + ActiveWorkbook.FullName, 1
End Sub
I made this module an Excel Add-in and added it as a button in the quick access toolbar. Now, the idea is for the WinForm.exe and the Excel.xla to always be in the same directory (go hand in hand). I want to make a relative path for the .exe which will be the path to the folder where the .xla is + the string "TemplateFunctions.exe" in the end.

Is there any way to reference a directory that is up one level from the ActiveWorkbook.Path?
I am trying to accomplish three goals:
1. Maintain a Master Database in a root directory and pull data from a subdirectory - EASY:
VB : FilePath = ActiveWorkbook.Path & "sub-DirectoryName"
2. Maintain a Minor Database located in a sub-Directory, Named by Month, and pull data from the Master Database located in the Root Directory (up one level). Which I cannot find the right syntax for - ".." does not work.
3. Maintain a Minor Database in a sub-Directory, Named by Month, and pull data from a different Minor Database in a Different sub-Directory (e.g. up one level to root directory, then down one level to "January"). Which I also cannot find the right syntax for.
The Databases are going to be moved around A LOT, so I have to use relative paths.

How can I run a DOS .bat (batch) file from within a Macro? This is what I came up with so far and it seems to work. The only thing is that I need this to have relative paths, running from the same directory the Excel Workbook is in.

I work on multiple workbooks. They all calculate a lot of functions and I am forced to create multiple workbooks to do these calculations. Linking to other workbooks basically displays the results of workbook1 and works from there.
But...
I need to keep an overview of these files, so I store them in different folders all within the same 'master' folder. So let's say: master folder is FolderMaster, and this contains folderA, folderB, folderC. FolderA contains workbookA1, workbookA2; folderB contains workbookB1, workbookC2 and finally folderC contains workbookC1 and workbookC2.
Suppose that this hierarchy might change. Moving eg workbook A2 to folderB. This would cause a #REF if it is linked in another workbook.
So I thought: organize your hierarchy in a 'master workbook' and store all paths to the individual files in a worksheet. If I link to a specific folder I do not directly link to the actual folder, but would use INDIRECT and grab the filepath from the masterworkbook. If the path to a workbook change I do not have to update all individual links, but only change the path in the masterworkbook. Right?
But 'how' is the big one here. How do you formulate your path to a file? It can not be the entire file path since that's variable... (sometimes 'hd:User1:....'; sometimes 'HD:User2'..."). So I think I need something as mentioned in this office help thing. But I have no clue. I do not want to use VBA, I hoped for another solution to this.

EXAMPLE: Complete Sheet called "Day1". When day1 is complete you click on button and it then copies itself and creates and renames new sheet to "Day2", then when "Day2" is complete you click on button and it then copies itself and creates and renames new sheet to "Day3", and so on and so forth to "Day30".

I am writing a macro that will perform a loop operation to export files. I want the user to specify the path, and the macro will save each exported file to that folder.
I did a number of searches and I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.
I think I want to use ChDir after using CurDir. But I don't know how to code the macro so that it asks the user to specify the location.

What's a proper way - in Excel VBA - to get the current folder *without* the preceding folders/path?
For example from folder "C:oracleora81sqlplusdemo" I'd like to retrieve "demo".
Currently I have:
Code:
DirNames = Split(ThisWorkbook.Path, "")
CurrentFolder = = DirNames(UBound(DirNames))
It works, but I suspect something exists specifically for this one.

All the daily folders already exist. Just need to change the file path. I tried some codes including sPath and format(now(), “mmddyyyy”), get error message.

I’m working on a project using Microsoft Excel 2010 and I want to add some features to facilitate saving and retrieving files process.
1.How can I save the daily created workbooks (Assume 15 files a day) in order to contain the current date (and time if possible) linked with certain cell(s) I have at my workbook forming the file name? (XYZ 2-4-2014) and/or (ABC 2-4-2014 23:11) and so on …
2.I’ve been through some other posts and I found VB code which saves the active file into specific path, but it is only useful for single workbook because multiple files are getting overwritten automatically. Is there a code which allows multiple/different files saving & creates daily folders?

Is there a way to write formulas so the variables are relative to a sheet?
I have a workbook that collects monthly electrical meter readings and calculates billing for each tenant. A new sheet is used for each month and the formulas need to refer to the previous month’s sheet for the prior meter reading.
For example cell C36 in the sheet Feb09 might contain: =Jan09!D36 Where Jan09 is the sheet name from the prior month. When I copy sheet Feb09 to make sheet Mar09 I’d like the formula in C36 to be =Feb09!D36.

I'm having some trouble coding a macro that copies data from one sheet in a workbook to the next sheet in the workbook, and the problem seems to stem from my lack of knowledge about how VBA refers to sheets. What I'd like to do is copy data from a range of cells in the next-to-the-last sheet in a workbook to the same range in the last sheet in the workbook.
Each day, I add a blank sheet to the end of all the sheets in my workbook. I insert some data into it, then go to the previous sheet, copy some data, return to today's sheet (the one I just added) and paste the data. I can record a macro that will do this perfectly, but it only works for the two sheets in which I record the macro. I need a way to change the sheet references so it always copies from the next-to-last sheet to the last sheet.

I am dealing with a workbook that will hold an undetermined amount of worksheets. Each of these worksheets will have have a series of numbers that are summed to a total within one cell. Lets say cell A10. For every spreadsheet, no matter what, this number will be stored in cell A10.
My first sheet will then be a master listing of all the other sheets in the workbook. In column A I will have the names of each sheet and in column B I want excel to list the value of A10 for the corresponding sheet listed in column A
So normally it would look like this on the master sheet
A | B
Sheet 2 | =Sheet2!A10
Sheet 3 | =Sheet3!A10
Sheet 4 | =Sheet4!A10
Where the formula would give me the value of A10 in the respective sheet.
What I would like to do is, within column B, I want to replace the sheet reference with the cell that contains the name of the sheet. So it would then be a formula similar to the below setup(Although this does not work because I have tried it)
A | B
Sheet 2 | =A1!A10
Sheet 3 | =A2!A10
Sheet 4 | =A3!A10
The hope is that excel would substitute in Sheet 2 for A1 and there by give me the sheet reference that I need. This way I can continuosly add sheets to the workbook and as long as I have the correct Sheet names in column A, all I need to do is drag the formula down column B and I will pull all of the necessary information without having to retype the formula each time.

I want to set up a name which is a relative cell refence an is independant of the sheet. Something like this ITEMCOST =A1
So I would use this in each sheet (Sheet1, Sheet2, Sheet3 ...)
So it should always reference A1 on whatever sheet the forrumal is placed e.g =0.175*ITEMCOST should work on A1 of each sheet. However, when I try this the name always references a specific worksheet Sheet1. I also want the name to cope with the case where I insert a new row so that the new value is ITEMCOST =A2

I've got a bit of a quandary here that my novice programming skills can't seem to solve.
Here is the scenario. I work for a photographic library. We have a spreadsheet that contains 5 or so columns, and a couple of thousand rows. Essentially each row contains an imagine code (the number we use to file away the imagine, ie. US_NY_NYC_1 ) in the first cell, and the image information in the following cells (ie metadata, keywords, photographer, date, etc).
so a typical row would look as follows:
Filename | Keywords | Photographer | Metadata | Location |
all the keyword, photographer, metadata, and location information can only be tied to the one image code whose cell begins the row.
Now, here is my dilemma. This sheet (lets call it the master sheet) contains all the images we have in a given batch. However, when a client orders images, we will send them most images in that batch, but not all, and we may send a few additional. So I have a separate sheet that contains only those image codes that the client requested. What I need to do is essentially take a code from the second sheet, find that same code in the master sheet, and copy over all the cells associated with that code's row. If the number does not exist in the master sheet, simply leave that row with only the code in the first cell, and the rest blank, and move on.
so for example, in my second sheet lets say I have the following A_B_C . I would like for excel to find that same code in the master sheet, and then copy over the metadata, photographer, date, etc, associated with that code, and paste it into the second sheet, so that that row in the second sheet now looks identical to the row with the same image code in the master sheet . If A_B_C does not exist in the master spreadsheet, then I would like excel to simply leave that code in its own row, leave the rest of the row blank, and move on to the next code.

I've go a shared Workbook, which will be distributed among several users and stored in different places. The workbook uses the following
Sub savemeas()
Worksheets("data").Visible = True
Sheets("data").Copy
Application.DisplayAlerts = False
ActiveWorkbook. SaveAs Filename:="d:" & Range("a1").Value, _
FileFormat:=xlText, CreateBackup:=False
Application.DisplayAlerts = True
ActiveWorkbook.Close SaveChanges:=True
End Sub
to save the sheet "data" as a text file with a name based on the value of cell a1. All I need is to modify the code so that the target path would not be
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="d:" & Range("a1").Value
but be the same as the source Workbook's - so that I wouldn't have to modify the code for each user separatly, because the sheet would alwayas be saved in the same folder as the current path of the source workbook.

I am using an XY scatter chart that displays the planned path and an actual path as I go. The planned path is set up in 100' increments and goes 12000' and actual path varies along the way.
My data that I use is the Northing (ft), Easting (ft) and Vertical Section (ft) for both the planned path and actual path.
I was wondering if there was an east way to get that information from the chart or if there is a formula that would allow me to calculate distance between the two points by using the data I use for my chart.
