Build Index-Match Formula To Retrieve Number From Data Sheet?
Aug 5, 2014
I'm trying to build an Index-Match formula to retrieve a number from a "data" sheet onto a "summary" sheet.
In example spreadsheet, I need to retrieve the stock price on a specific row from "data" sheet, and as an alternative, the most recent price.
I have 2 sheets recording feedback and summarising the overall percentages for each trainer.
My boss wants me to do this by month!?!?!
I have created a third sheet but I am not sure how to do the following: Look up the trainer name Look up the month identify the percentages for each category create an overall average of these percentages
So for example if Jon smith trained twice in JAN getting 100% and 50% in cat1, it would display 75% in the cat 1 cell and so on.
I have table as below of raw data. In which data will increase dynamically both for rows and columns from starting column for eg say Column "D".
I want to get ID data on sheet2 to compare it with some other data for the ID by using formula = INDEX(Dynamic range,MATCH(ID Ref- Sheet2,Sheet1! ref -dynamic,0),column ref) and get the referred ID data on "Sheet2").
On Sheet2 ID Data1 Data2 Data3 Data4 Data5 Data6 Data7
I am trying to find a formula that populates a room number based on the number of hours used. I have a chart that is by building but multiple rooms within each.
Where I am having trouble is when there are more than one room with the same number of hours used then sometimes the formula populates the wrong room number.
Attached is my example spreadsheet of my chart. Book1.xlsx
I have shown what I need, what I have tried and a blank space to show where I need it to go.
I am looking for a formula or something - that when a reference number is used - it popluates cells from a list. Attached is a sample spreadsheet - 2 worksheets are being used - 1 is Purchase List and the 2nd is Fax Commitment. When reference no is filled in on the Fax Commitment sheet and it = the same reference no as on the Purchase List - I need it to populate the appropriate fields (in this case I have colour coded)
I'm trying to create a formula in cell f13 of my attached spreadsheet "Sample 1" that will search the 2nd attached spreadsheet "Sample 2" and return the correct serial number based on both the matching PO # (located in cell E10 on Sample Sheet 1 and in Column 5 on Sample Sheet 2) and Product # (cell A13 on my Sample Sheet 1). My current formula is not returning the correct result and I'm not sure why.
I am working on a spreadsheet where I need to have data from different sheets added but based on the instructor whose data I want to see in the summary sheet. I want to be able to type the name of the instructor in a cell and have all of the data appear below. I believe that an index match formula would work, but I do not know how to have the data from the different sheets added nested in the formula.
A while back i got some assistance from a very helpful member with a formula to retrieve a value from the left most column, that was greater than Col "min" and less than col "MAX" from a range of values.
I never really worked out how this functioned and can’t really make it out of the help files on excel. I am now trying to do a similar lookup from a table of values but only need to find the row value using a greater than less than operation, using a single column.
The original formula was {=INDEX(A:A,MIN(IF((INDIRECT("MAX")>B3)*(INDIRECT(“min")<B3),ROW(INDIRECT("min")),"")))} Where B3 was the number to be compared against.
We know how INDEX/MATCH works, and it's very nice. I attached a COUNTIF to it to count how many times the index finds itself on another table; if it doesn't find itself, then it goes blank. However, this time I need to count how many times it finds a certain string condition in the other table.

The columns that need to be filled are shaded in dark pink.
See attached file, "Rate Sample Index-Match Formula".
I need a formula to return the value at the cross section of two (2) lookup values that match. This formula will be input into column D under, "RATE" on the 1st tab, "TEST FILE".
In the 1st tab, "TEST FILE" there are a series of columns as follows;
A = Service B = From C = To D = Rate
In the 2nd tab, "RATES" there is a series of rates with drivers From (green) & To (blue)
The formula needs to do the following;
1. Lookup the "From" value in column B on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to column B2:B59 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in green 2. Then Lookup the "To" value in column C on tab, "TEST FILE" and match to row C1:BH1 on tab, "RATES" both highlighted in blue 3. Then return the value at the cross section of the match "From" (point 1 above) & "To" (point 2 above) in range C2:BH59
For Example;
The rate From SYD To CBR = 0.33. I have highlighted this in yellow on both tabs to show where the formula needs to lookup the data to return the answer.
Additionally, if we were to add service as an additional lookup match how would this work?
I currently have a spreadsheet with two sheets. The first is my reporting sheet and the second is called Stores. I currently am using the following formula in the reporting sheet:
I am trying to match data from 2 independent sets, formatted slightly differently so not sure which function would work best for me. From the attached file, I am trying to match the date and time stamp (in cell A1) with that from the other data (in this example in cell E1) and return the data (from cell F1) to cell C1. So basically any date and time stamp before 04/03/09 04:00 will return a value of 44 (this value should appear, therefore in cells C1 - C30)
see attached workbook. I want VBA to insert an index/match forumla on sheet 1 to lookup a value from sheet 2. I don't want it to specify a range though. I want VBA to look to see if there is data above and to the left of the cell and if it is true insert the index/match formula. Then it won't matter what row or column I put the headings in.
ColA and ColB contains a standard information which is supossed to be my reference. ColC contains my queries for which I need information about their place in ColD.
So I need to match ColC with ColA, so as to retrieve the matched data (between ColC and ColA) from ColB to ColD. Following is the way I expect my result to be..
ColA ColB ColC ColD

I received an answer in that link
"=INDEX($B$2:$B$6,MATCH($C2,$A$2:$A$6,0))",
Which when tried, surely worked a few months back. I am now using excel 2010. I tried the same again, but this time it does not work for me. Is there something else to do which has been changed in the new excel 2010 ?
I would like to build an index sheet from multiple sheets in a folder(directory). Let's say I have a folder with sheetA.xls, sheetB.xls and sheetC.xls. I would like to automatically create an "index" sheet that lists the sheet name and info from cells B2 and cell C3 all on a single row. So my index sheet might look something like this:
sheetA Portland Oregon sheetB Seattle Washington sheetC Reno Nevada
My array is H42:N72, in H42:H72 I have numbers 15,14,13....0,-1,-2,-3, etc...
In N42:N72 there is a corresponding $ amount that I would like to return based on finding the value which is greater than 4.7 (so, looking to match the $$ amount to the number 5 in column H42:H72)
I've tried using INDEX MATCH but can't figure this out.
From the highlighted cells at B17 to B19, while using some kind of lookup or indexing method, I want to count the number of cells in that specific range that's great than zero. This list is just a sample, the list will be much bigger and order may not be the same--that's why I need to lookup the project name.
Current I am using two spreadsheets for similar press and am combining the two. What I need help with this time is currently in cell c9 the formula is =ROUNDDOWN(17.7/C7,0) or =ROUNDDOWN(39.3/C7,0) depending on which press I am using. The presses are shown in cells d34 - q34. Indigo =17.7 gilboa = 39.3. I have added these numbers to a table in the scales tab a24:e26. Is there a way to write a formula in cell c9 on the input tab to combine the 2 above formulas and insert the correct 17.7 or 39.3 when required?
Guys im stuck on the fact of how to pull the correct information through for a named person.as from the example if i place say steve in the named box i would like all of steves scores to appear in the designated boxes.and so on.
