Change First Letter Of Word From Uppercase To Lowercase In Each Cell Of First Row?
Sep 18, 2013
Is there a way to get Excel to automatically change the first letter of single word entry to lowercase in each cell of the first row of my worksheet leaving the case the same for all other letters?

Formula that will convert uppercase words longer than three letters, into lowercase. Leaving the rest of the string unchanged?
For example,
Mary and John at IBM thought this was a GREAT OPPORTUNITY. Becomes:
Mary and John at IBM thought this was a great opportunity.
I have also tried using more func's REGEX.SUBSTITUTE but I couldn't get that to work either!

This is wrekcing my head as I'm sure it can be done with an Array formula and I cant seem to get it sorted -
Say I have 5 Rows of text starting in A2
"A quick word"
"A quick WORD"
"A"
"word"
"WORD"
I need an excel formula to say "False", "False", "False", "False", "TRUE".
All conditions to be met for TRUE are - Word must in uppercase, Uppercase Word must be longer than 1 character, Sentence (i.e. cell) can not contain a space. This is the path I've gone down, but almost certainly incorrect -
=IF( FIND(CHAR(64+COLUMN($A$1:$Z1)),$A$2,1),TRUE,FALSE)
[CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER]

My question is about determining whether or not a particular letter is uppercase.
I've written code that reads from a text file one character at a time. And I know that the following determines if each character is equal to the letter "a".

I import a CSV file into Excel where the column title row has column titles that are just one long text string, without any spacing between the words. For example:
CompanySiteDescription
CompanySiteExternalSystemID
IssueNumber
I would like a method (formula or macro) that would add a space-character before each uppercase letter (that's not the first letter in the string or an uppercase letter that directly follows another upper case letter). Thus:
CompanySiteDescription becomes Company Site Description
CompanySiteExternalSystemID becomes Company Site External System ID
IssueNumber becomes Issue Number

I have this project for work where on one sheet information is put in by typing AF, CF, WF. I need to have Excel read the AF, CF, WF and make that read as the full word. Is there anyway to do that? I can get my boss to have people just put A, C, W

What I need to do is fairly simple to explain:
I want to have the first letter of every word in a cell to be capitalized, but the rest of each word must remain as is.
Ie: If I have "My AMD CPU still has some pew-pew" in a cell, I want to be able to use a function, let's say:
=CapFix("My AMD CPU still has some pew-pew")
and the output should be:
My AMD CPU Still Has Some Pew-pew
I've tried using:
=PROPER("My AMD CPU still has some pew-pew")
But the output is:
My Amd Cpu Still Has Some Pew-pew
Which is incorrect (capitalization in the rest of the words "AMD" and "CPU" is lost). Does anybody here know what can be done to solve this problem, or have any info about what I can use to solve it? I have not been able to find any built-in Excel function to solve this, nor ASAP Utilities and I can add VBA code and macros, I just don't know how to manipulate the strings correctly or do the loops, etc that I think will be necessary to solve this.
If anyone could help, it would be much appreciated. I've not seen a single site where a similar problem has been posted. Even if you can't give me a full solution, but can point me in any direction that would be useful, I'd be really grateful.

I have to loop through a range in A, and if the letter "C" or the number "9" appears in the cell anywhere (it won't be a whole cell value) then I need column B to show "C".
I know how to do a whole value loop, but I'm stumped on a 'find X anywhere' search.

I have a range B2:ZZ2000
Some of the cells contain a variety of dates (formatted as d-mmm) Other cells contain either "i", "n" or are blank - or contain a text string, eg "his name"
I'm looking macro code that will: Look at the range and only for any cell containing a date, replace it with "y".

I've done the following:
Sub BrownBH()
If Range("Brown!B4:B31") = X Then
Range("C4").Value = [#A]
Else
Range("C4").Value = NT
End If
End Sub
However, this doesn't even work.
When somebody enters an X in a specific cell on one worksheet, it's supposed to change the value to A of a specific cell in a different worksheet. Sounds simple enough...but...

I want to to have in the second column:

So far I have this: +IF(EXACT(A1;UPPERCASE(A1));A1;+RIGHT(A1;LEN(A1)-(FIND(X;A1;1)-1)))
X standing for the position of the first lowercase, which I don't know how to get.

I am working on a spreadsheet for work, and have managed to do everything I need to so far but I need to colour specific letter strings, certain colours within a range of cells (each letter string will only appear once on each sheet)
The strings I will be looking for vary depending on data entered so I will need to cell reference them
The strings that need colouring are in cells with other strings that must stay black (They cannot be separated from other strings due to the nature of the grid)
I need some strings red, some green, and some blue.
These changes should also apply to the whole workbook not just one sheet.
Is there a way to do this with the VBA code.

I have the following letters in cells
D2= A
D3=G
D4 =L
These represent Accomodation,Groceries, and Liquor.
Starting at E12 I want a formula , to drag down the column, which will show either Accomodation, Groceries or Liquor depending on the letter I put in cell D12,
Eventually I will possibly need help to summarise these costs on another sheet with other data such as fuel costs and fuel analysis but this will get me started.

For the below formula is it possible to replace the B's (column location) with a cell Say Z146 which contains the letter B (or a number if thats easier and someone can tell me the numbers for each column).
When the formula is dragged into the next cell (down) it takes its column reference from Z147 and then my life becomes so much easier.
=IF(INDEX('Overs-Unders'!B:B,MATCH($C145,'Overs-Unders'!$A:$A,0))"",INDEX('Overs-Unders'!B:B,MATCH($C145,'Overs-Unders'!$A:$A,0)),"")

In sheet1 I have a simple database consisting of 5 columns of data
Column A : Name ie James Jones
Column B : payroll number ie 123456
Column C : shift times ie 1245-2124
Column D : job title ie floor
Column E : comments ie A/L or 0600-1500
what I would like is some code that will go down Column E and if a 'time string' ie 1300-2130 is found then copy this string and paste into corresponding value in column C. If a text string is found ie A/L or Sick or anything like this then ignore and move onto next cell, loop this until all cells in column E have been checked.

I am looking for a formula that would extract uppercase words from a cell. I have cells containing this kind of sentences:
"FROZEN PRODUCTS;Frozen avocado;FROZEN FISH;SweeT things;"
so I started with this Macro to extract uppercases and punctuation:
Public Function majuscules(zone)
Dim sel As Object
Dim i As Integer
Application.Volatile
For Each sel In zone
[Code] ........
It works pretty well but gives all the uppercases, and what I want is only those of words fully in upper.
Is there a way to tweak this formula so it gives all the uppers that touch another upper.
In the example case, it should return:
"FROZEN PRODUCTS; ;FROZEN FISH; "
The little cherry on the cake would be if it could give me:
"FROZEN PRODUCTS; FROZEN FISH"

i need a formula for a sign in sheet for the academy i work at. we have night and day classes of the same sessions, in the planner they are listed as d1, d2 d3 and n1 n2 n3 and so on for each.
so basically im trying to create a formula to quickly ender the d1, d2, d3 ect into the cells on eachpage for the students to sign in for each day it works out to be about 190 calls and 9 diferent classes to you can see why id like to speed this up. problem is i need the number to change not the D and excel want to use the cell allocation.
as you can see from the document i have not attatched, i have created a formula to add in the dates automatically, i would like to do the same with the session numbers or the D numbers, this is one of the shorter courses and has about 190 days
