Drop Down Box In A Cell

Mar 2, 2009

I'd like to have a drop down box in a cell in excel - so you would click on the drop down arrow and choose a name from the drop down. This name would then be displayed in that cell. The idea being that you can only chose a name from the list, and type nothing else in there.

Drop Down List Which Returns Values Based On What Has Been Selected In The Previous Drop Down List In The Adjacent Cell

Mar 19, 2009

I'm trying to create a drop down list which returns values based on what has been selected in the previous drop down list in the adjacent cell, e.g. if 'Apples' is selected in the previous cell then you should only be able to select from 'Gala, Granny Smith', or if 'Oranges' is selected you should only be able to select 'Seville, Blood Orange'. Is there a formula which would do this, or can I use a pivot table somehow? I'm totally stumped.

Populate Drop-Down Based On Another Drop-Down Choice

Oct 25, 2006

Here is what I'm trying to do:

I have 4 sheets:
1 called main
1 called states
1 called counties
1 called people

On "main" I have 1 drop down box and 1 cell:

the drop down lists the states from "states" sheet
the cell, which i would like to have as a drop down is supposed to be listing the counties in the state selected from the 1st drop down. right now it is setting the value to TRUE for testing purposes.

then when the county is selected, it will display the people in that county listed in "people". So far I can only get the 1st drop down to list the states. that's the easy part. i need to getting the counties to list in another drop down based on what state is selected.

Populate Drop-Down Based On Another Drop-Down Selection ...

Dec 5, 2007

Im a fairly basic VBA user who has just purchased the code for J-Walk's Enhanced Data Form.

On other threads in this forum I have noticed a lot of people asking how to make the contents of one drop-down box dependant on the selection in another. I am trying to do the same thing but with the criteria section of the EDF form.

Is this possible? What does give me hope is that a simple Autofilter - whilst not as aesthetically pleasing, does the job well.

Populate Drop-Down Based On Another Drop-Down Selection

Aug 7, 2008

Currently I have columns fixed or assigned to the names of insurance providers/companies.

In each column below the name of the Insurance Company, a combobox containing the plans that company offers. Choose a plan, and the rest of the column is filled in using vlookup.

Now to save space, IE opposed to having 13-15 columns one assigned to each Insurance Company/Provider. I am looking to have only 3-5 columns with a first initial combobox in which one chooses the Name of the Company/Provider, and in turn populate the original combobox and vlookup functionality I already have built in.

Here is an example of what I am working with.

Restrictions On Drop Down List If Cell Is 'a' Then Other Cell Must Equal 'b'

Jul 15, 2009

I have two cells, both of which have drop down lists for options 'a' & 'b'. When one equals 'a' the other should be restricted into only saying 'b' and vice versa. I would also like the user to be reminded that he can only select 'a' once from the two menus. Ideally I would like to do this in a formula rather than VBA?

Make A Cell Look For Another Cell Value Then Call Up A Drop Down

Nov 30, 2007

Is there a way to create a multiple dropdown (Similar to Windows Start menu) so that the user can select the item and its properties then the selections be placed into multiple cells? For example, i select wood from drop down list and i get another drop down list asking for the type of wood, I select MDF and another drop down ask for thickness. when I finished my selections, then the selected Items copy themselves into 3 different cells.

I have a drop down in (A1) cell and I select an item from it. I want (A2) cell to check the name in (A1) then call up another drop down i already made in (A2).

Cell-dependent Drop-down

Say in A1 i have either Yes or No, in B1 i have a dropdown validation from a list if A1 is Yes and "n/a" if A1 is no.

I thought if i renamed my list validation to "Yes" and labelled "n/a" as "No", then using =INDIRECT(A1) as my list validation would do the trick.

In Cell Drop Down Box Action

Oct 29, 2009

(using excel 2k7)

Is there a way to create an in-cell dropdown list, then when only 1 item is selected an action is done, plus this has to be repeated for at least 20 rows, preferably 200.

I can do it with an activeX combo box, but that will be tedious and looks messy. The form control box's were linked, or at least when I created them.

Data validation is the prefered method for my drop down list. It looks neat and is easy to replicate for 200 rows.

Drop-down Menus For Each Cell In The Column

Dec 2, 2006

I have an excel sheet with Column H having drop down menus for each cell In the column, starting with H5 going downwards.

The drop-down menu contains around 50-70 options, and what I have to do manually is go to h5 and click on the drop-down menu and select the first value. I then go to h6 and click on the drop-down menu and select the second value. I then go to h7 and click on the drop-down menu and select the third value. I then go to h8 and click on the drop-down menu and select the fourth value.....and so on and so on.....until I have chosen all values in the drop down-menu!

Is there a macro that will just do this automatically? Starting with cell h5 get the first value of the drop down menu, go to h6 and get the second value of the drop-down menu and so on until all the values are chosen?

If you manage this one, I also need to do something similar for column K, but this time select the first value of the drop down menu for k5 AND k6, then get the second value of the drop down menu for k7 AND k8, then get the third value from the drop-down menu for k9 AND k10 and so on.

Drop Down Box To Relatively Update Cell Link

May 20, 2007

I made drop down form controls that specify yes/no as to whether I have the documents I need for a project- when I selected yes the same row will turn grey. Each form control is set to move/resize with its cell, so it stays on top of the cell. I have the drop down form set to cell link to the cell below it in the form control settings. So it would be over cell A1 and the value of 0/1/2/ would be entered into A1. However whenever I copy the cell/row, the new form control drop down does not update its cell link by relative positioning, the new cell link is also A1 – thus both drop downs are linked together. I do NOT put absolute referencing $A$1 so I don’t know why the new copied forms don’t update and point to B1?

Why doesn’t my drop down menu update its cell link position when I copy and paste the cell it is attached to? Can form controls update their cell links via relative references (that is without the $$)?

Drop Down Cell Link Reference

Aug 28, 2007

I have 6 worksheets that are identical cosmetically. Each has the same drop down box list with the same name (dropdown1), however the cell link on each sheet is different. (ie. sheet1 dropdown1 cell link refers to a sheet ' lookup' cell $K$1, sheet2 dropdown1 cell link refers to sheet 'lookup' cell $K$2, etc.) I have the same command button in each sheet that performs the same task so I wanted to keep one module for all 6. Problem is I set a variable to the cell link in the code, and this has to be changed.

DropDownValue = Sheets("Lookup").Range("K1").Value

Is there any way I can set this variable using a property of the drop down list?

DropDownValue = dropdown1.celllink

I don't want to create 5 more duplicate modules just to change this one bit of code (I only use it this time in the code!). If there is no way to get the cell link value of the drop down, could I possibly put a worksheet change event on the lookup sheet to populate a certain static cell with the value of the last cell change?

Using Drop Down List As Selection Criteria For The Next Cell

May 31, 2008

One worksheet will have a library of job elements for assembly process with standard times on it.For example:Pick up a bolt(0.621m),install gasket(0.231m) etc.
The main worksheet will have a dropdown list which will list all the job elements discussed above. It will also have the quantity. So in otherwords,to pick up one bolt the time would be 0.621 minutes. But if anyone picks up 4 bolts the time would be 2.115 minutes, which can be calculated by the formula. So I want to display the job element, qty and the time in three separate rows. This worksheet will also calculate the total time for the assembly of the components which might contain more than thousand job elements.
My question is how do I ensure that picking up any of these job elements will give me the correct time.Is this something that can be done by formulas or anything thats built in excel or I need to run a macro or VBA to run some codes for IF...ELSE....THEN statements. There are too many conditions like If pick up one bolt time is 0.621 minutes,if pick up 4 bolts time is 2.115 minutes or if pick up a gasket time is 0.231 minutes.

Copying Many Cells, Drop Content Into One Cell?

I have a document I was directed to fill in. I was instructed to only use a certain number of characters and then drop into another cell below it for paragraphs of text. I have now been told they made a mistake, need me to copy all the related cells for a specific paragraph and drop them into a single cell.

Can I copy the text in multiple cells, and then drop the cell formating of those copied cells and drop the content into one single cell. Either word wrapping the content or soft returns for what looks like paragraphs again?
