Finding How Many Words Are Entirely Made Up From Characters In Field?
Jul 16, 2014
i bought a tattslotto scratch card (for those of ya outside of australia, not sure what youd call em, basically lottery ticket/game), this game is essentially a crossword puzzle, you scratch your letters out in a box then you have a list of words, you need to find words that are made up entirely of your letters, the more words you find, the more you win ive kind of screwed up the card and scratched out words i dont have, however i do have atleast 2 words and i think ive got more, potentially could win big but wanna know how much before i go claim it
ive opened up a new workbook, in the A column ive got a list of all my words, then in C1 ive got a field where ive entered all my letters, wondering if theres a way to get excel to work it out for me (like an IF statement on the fields in column A to compare them to C1, or some kind of conditional formatting rule)
I want to sort on number of words, i.e. if a cell contains 1 or 2 words etc, with the cells containing 1 word coming first then cells containing 2 words. Also, if possible, first the cells with fewer characters.
In my IE site there is a field which is a dropdown field with the value 'Not Known' and 'Specified Date'. If I select 'Specified Date' another field named 'Date' becomes visible where I can give a date. I was able to ensure that the value 'Specified Date' is selected using the following statement:
IE.document.GetElementById("startDateBasis").Value = "SpecifiedDate"I also was able to populate the date field with the statement: IE.document.GetElementById("startDate").Value = SOA
Where SOA is populated with the date string I need to be given as input in IE.
My issue though is that, eventhough the data is provided by the macro the field 'Date' is not visible. So I have no way to know if the input was succesful until I submit the screen. I think I read somewhere that this is because of the way datebasis is populated.
How to get the field 'Date' made visible if datebasis is given as 'Specified Date'?
I have about 2000 rows, all with an amount of words between 2 and 6. I want to limit each row to keep only the first TWO words. Is there a way to do this?
If not, is there a way to limit each row to only keep the first 11 characters?
I need a formula which can clean up a huge data set. Essentially i need to delete the entire word which contains the characters "aceae". note that "aceae" is a suffix, but i need to delete the entire word not just the suffix, plus keep the rest of the string. i have tried the "find and replace" function of excel with wildcard, but that deletes everything before/after without deleting the entire word. i have tried a combination of formulas to isolate the unwanted words, but that method is inefficient and inaccurate. below is a schematic of what im looking to do:
Column A ------------------------------ Column B l. planeri asteraceae africa laselva-----> l. planeri africa laselva l. planeri moraceae europe singer------> l. planeri europe singer origin l. fluviatilis bignoniaceae asia----> origin l. fluviatilis asia alternate l. fluviatilis piperaceae asia---> alternate l. fluviatilis asia
How do I change the Excel settings to display in each cell as many characters as fit within the allotted cell space?
To elaborate, in previous versions of Excel that I have used, when a cell contained more characters than could be displayed in the size allotted, for viewing and printing purposes, the cell would simply display (starting at the beginning) as many characters as possible. After upgrading, I have found that when a cell contains more characters than can be displayed, it simply displays the last word contained in the cell.
For example if a cell contains "Frederico Gonzalez & Jose Rodriquez", but there is not room to display the entirety of the message, I would like the cell to display "Frederico Gonzalez & Jo", but the way it is currently displaying is "Rodriquez " with a whole lot of empty space afterwards.
This causes a problem, because it is usually not evident that more information is contained in that cell (unless the cell is selected).
How do I change the Excel settings to display in each cell as many characters as fit within the allotted cell space?
I need to find from the second word until just before a numeric number.
Thus the text in Column H is as follow:
COLUMN H
1234234 My name is John 12 Jul 34243 I am 10 years old 23 Feb 4345345 Peter 23 Jan
So, I need the text in RED extracted only. All words are seperated by spaces. It will always start from the second word and continues until it finds the first number. All words between these must be extracted.
My formula below is to extract the 1st Word, thus all I need is the formula for the above situation and replace the one below with it.
I was wondering how I could highlight duplicate words or in a text strings of 5 or more words, 6 or more words etc or a desired value within a document? It would be great if I could highlight the cell with duplicate word in yellow. Essentially I was hoping that this could be done using VB/macro with just a simple button loaded on the toolbar. I hope that my explanation is easy enough to follow. Below is an example:
i have a spreadsheet system that imports data from an .mdb including a memo box, but the limit on excels displayed and printed data (1024 characters i think) is causing issues!
is anyone aware of a method using VBA that i can use to ensure i can see all the text that is in the memo box not just the 1024(?) characters?
Create a form where i would enter 2 numbers into 2 seperate boxes, and those numbers would be highlighted/bolded/shown in red from a list of 30 rows of numbers x 20 numbers in each row. these 2 numbers will not be the same all the time, below is just for an example
I am suffering with split a long descriptions into 3 cells with criteria 1st cell not more than 30 characters, 2nd cell not more than characters and 3rd cell will locate the remaining characters there. I think this is quite easy if I use LEN/MID/RIGHT/LEFT formula. However, I wish the formula will smart enough to split word by word. refer to example below:-
"My lecturer replied, that i really did very bad in final, nothing's gonna change my plan."
If I use left(A1,30) formula, the result is "My lecturer replied, that i re"however, the word "really" is cut half way. I am finding the formula that split description to not more than 30 characters and won't cut my string and become incomplete word. Expected result should be 1st cell "My lecturer replied, that i", then "really did very bad in final," at 2nd cell.
I have excel document over 50 pages and i need to filter lines that begins with certain letters like ADS, SGH, FAQ. I know how to filter one by one but i need all 3 to filter in same time-
How can i make multiple lines to filter in one search?
Example below of the data I have. I need to convert dates into DD.MM.YY (8 chars) for SAP. I receive spreadsheets where the date is dd/mm/yy and I use the replace to convert the "/" to ".", then format this column as TEXT. My problem is some of these sheets have hundreds of records and rather than individually scroll through and look for data that requires the "0", is there a way to insert this. I can custom format that it looks as it has the zero, but it is not in the true data.
1.10.12 data should be 01.10.12 11.10.12 this is correct 3.11.12 data should be 03.11.12 3.06.12 data should be 03.06.12 etc
I am trying to find the Maximum Value in Column C based on the criteria that Column B contains "Afghanistan but NOT Mobile.
In a second cell I also want to find the maximum value in Column C based on the criteria that Column B contains "Afghanistan" AND "Mobile"
The code I have come up with is in the table however it is only showing the max value for cells containing "Afghanistan". If I add the wildcard "*" it does not return a value. how I can achieve my objectives?
I am trying to write a Macro that will identify a particular column by its field header (i.e. first row) and will run a specific set of code on that particular column.
My current code looks like this, coverting New York to NY:-
This code applies to 'New York' found in the entire sheet. I need to identify a column that is named 'State' and then make the code run ONLY on that column.
I have obtained the following data which I need to put into a spreadsheet to import into an accounts program. I can't change the way I get the data which is as follow
Hrs worked Rate 05:55:00£30.00/Hour 07:40:00£21.00/Hour 05:45:00£30.00/Hour
What I need to have is 5.92 30.00 7.67 21.00 5.75 30.00 ie the time format in decimal and loose all the unnecessary symbols etc for the rate
I'm having the following little problem, and i'm hoping that someone here can help me solve it.
I have a number of rows containing data starting at row 1. I already made VBA code which finds the last row containing data. That row number is stored in the variable "LastRowWithData".
What i want to do now is the following.
In column B (in row 1 to the row number stored in "LastRowWithData"), there are long code's which all have to be checked for unwanted characters.
Some of these unwanted characters are the "I" and "O" characters both in upper case and lower case.
If these characters are found a messagebox has to appear, saying something like "Illegal character found in cell ____".
If more than one cell containing unwanted characters are found, either more messageboxes with the cell coordinates have to be displayed or one messagebox displaying all the cell coordinates in which the unwanted characters are found.
Im planning to use a while - wend statement to check all cells for unwanted characters. (While ActiveCell.Row LastRowWithData)
Is there a simple way to do this in (Excel 2003) VBA ?
Looking for a formula (not macro) that can do the following:
I have a spreadsheet and in one column, it has last names of clients. In the next column, it has full names of clients that are the same account, but different system with different descriptions for the name. I need to lookup the column that just has last name and see if that last name exist anywhere in the "Full name" column. If it does, then I need column C to say "Yes" or something along those lines.
The "full name" column isn't always in the same format and sometimes doesn't even contain the "last name." Sometimes the last name will be first and sometimes there's a comma and sometimes there isn't a comma. The spreadsheet attached shows a good short example of what I'm working with...
I have a few thousand products codes (i.e ABCD123BLA08 or SHU267BLA) They are non standardised in length or structure. I wish to pull out everything upto the end of the third numeric digit.( ie ABCD123 and SHU267) I cannot use left as they are all different lengths. Ideally i would serach for a non numeric char after the number then use left up to that point. Search can't do this, FIND can't do this.
Summary ABCD123BLA08 would be ABCD123 SHU246BLU would be SHU246 I147ORT08-12 would be I147
I'd like to be able to search a spreadsheet for a specific word or series of characters. Once all of the ROWS that contain the characters are found, I'd like to be able to have another spreadsheet with ONLY those rows (all columns).
I have a column of words in Column A and I want to replace all the times that these words appear in the rest of the excel sheet with the words in Column B. If someone has already answered a similar problem link me to the thread because I can't find anything.
I'm looking for a macro to remove all words (in a single word per cell format) in a range (approx 100 columns & 7000 rows), except for a list of 100 words.
I've been using conventional method to do this and it's time consuming. I would like to total up 2 column. A multiply B to be exact. Below are some examples:
Table 1 - Before totaling up:
Quantity Product 5 2 x Button A White 3 4 x Button B Pink 4 5 x Ribbon A Black 2 3 x Thread A White 6 2 x Cloth A Blue
Table 2 - After totaling up:
Quantity Product 10 Button A White 12 Button B Pink 20 Ribbon A Black 6 Thread A White 12 Cloth A Blue
I need to have the sum of the "Quantity" multiply "Product". Or in short A x B. And the end result need to have the number and "x" sign removed while keeping on the the products names. (2 x ) Take note it's "number" space "symbol" space.
I am trying to find certain words in a column and delete the word and characters following. For example, Say I have a column of info as seen below. This is a test of me. I am just experimenting with this stuff. Deleted (6/15/01) Let me know what you think. I am not sure about it all, but I guess I will figure it out. riviledge1 (01/05/06) Now let's see what happens when I try to test it.
I want to find all the "Priviledge1 (01/05/06)" and replace with nothing. Please note, the date will change with each record, so I need to figure out how to tell Excel to find "Priviledge1", delete it and the date behind it. So I want to delete "Priviledge1" and the next 11 characters including the space.
