I have excel document over 50 pages and i need to filter lines that begins with certain letters like ADS, SGH, FAQ. I know how to filter one by one but i need all 3 to filter in same time-
How can i make multiple lines to filter in one search?
I've been trying to find this on the web but haven't a clue now, I have a database query that I am pulling from an access database and now I am trying to match the last four characters of a referral string to a current location, let me show you what I mean. Example,
A(location string) B(current location) C(last location)
car/kitchen/house kitchen NO
kitchen/garage/car car YES
kitchen/car/garage car NO
I want to write a function in column C that matches the last four characters of the location string (column A) with the current location (column B) , and if they match have a YES in column C, or a conversely a NO.
I have a spreadsheet containing 5 columns of text, I need to identify any that contain any of the following characters;
` ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * [ ] | } { " _ ; < >
Is it not possible to do this via either a custom "contains" filter or Find/Replace without doing it one by one ?
This is something i will need to do monthly as a data cleanse activity, and ideally i need it to be quick and allow me to see quickly out of a large list which contain these characters in the form of a filter or highlighted cells.
My excel knowledge is limited but if this isn't possible via custom filters, how i can create a macro that will search for the above characters and highlight any cells containing them ?
I've got 2 worksheets SH1 & SH2( Two different workbooks) Col A is NAME in each Sheet. Need to Match Col A Sheet 2 to Col A Sh1 if they are identical. If identical copy info from Col B, and Col E- G to Sheet 1 Col B and Col H-J. If a Name is in Sh2 but not in Sh1, Copy (using same Column positions: copy info from Col B, and Col E- G to Sheet 1 Col B and Col H-J ) to NEXT AVAILABLE ROW in Sh1 COL A, and highlight it in Some bright color ; Then open a MSG Box telling me how many new names were added.

I have attached an example of what I am looking for:
I need to filter by community but keep all the information listed in columns, B, C, & D.
So when I filter to Thunder Bay I would still see the 5 members listed in column D.
I realize the easy solution is to fill all the empty cells in column A to pick up the data in the other columns, but I do not want to Fill all the empty cells to include the name "Thunder Bay" (not the look I want for this spreadsheet).
I want to sort on number of words, i.e. if a cell contains 1 or 2 words etc, with the cells containing 1 word coming first then cells containing 2 words. Also, if possible, first the cells with fewer characters.

I have a sheet of about 10k rows that I need to switch some things around on. The string is below:
Acura|TL|1995^^Acura|TL|1996^^Acura|TL|1997^^Acura|TL|1998^^Acura|TL|1999
It needs to say:

How to fix this with a macro or formula. The Make Model and Year on each string will be different. Basically I need the format to be Make|Model|Year.
I need a formula which can clean up a huge data set. Essentially i need to delete the entire word which contains the characters "aceae". note that "aceae" is a suffix, but i need to delete the entire word not just the suffix, plus keep the rest of the string. i have tried the "find and replace" function of excel with wildcard, but that deletes everything before/after without deleting the entire word. i have tried a combination of formulas to isolate the unwanted words, but that method is inefficient and inaccurate. below is a schematic of what im looking to do:

I have a spreadsheet with 65000 potential client surnames in column c, with contract details in neighbouring columns. I have also a spreadsheet of 6000 actual client surnames. I would like to search the large spreadsheet to make sure that none of the clients are contained in it, or if some are to highlight them.
Do I use advanced filter or vlookup? I use excel 2000 and due to the size of the first spreadsheet it takes 6 minutes to open/save e.t.c.
I'm looking for a macro to remove all words (in a single word per cell format) in a range (approx 100 columns & 7000 rows), except for a list of 100 words.

I've been using conventional method to do this and it's time consuming. I would like to total up 2 column. A multiply B to be exact. Below are some examples:

And the end result need to have the number and "x" sign removed while keeping on the the products names. (2 x ) Take note it's "number" space "symbol" space.
i bought a tattslotto scratch card (for those of ya outside of australia, not sure what youd call em, basically lottery ticket/game), this game is essentially a crossword puzzle, you scratch your letters out in a box then you have a list of words, you need to find words that are made up entirely of your letters, the more words you find, the more you win ive kind of screwed up the card and scratched out words i dont have, however i do have atleast 2 words and i think ive got more, potentially could win big but wanna know how much before i go claim it

How do I change the Excel settings to display in each cell as many characters as fit within the allotted cell space?
To elaborate, in previous versions of Excel that I have used, when a cell contained more characters than could be displayed in the size allotted, for viewing and printing purposes, the cell would simply display (starting at the beginning) as many characters as possible. After upgrading, I have found that when a cell contains more characters than can be displayed, it simply displays the last word contained in the cell.
For example if a cell contains "Frederico Gonzalez & Jose Rodriquez", but there is not room to display the entirety of the message, I would like the cell to display "Frederico Gonzalez & Jo", but the way it is currently displaying is "Rodriquez " with a whole lot of empty space afterwards.
This causes a problem, because it is usually not evident that more information is contained in that cell (unless the cell is selected).

Matching Multiple repeating values in one column with another.
I have a three columns of data that I need to map the requird Ids in Col A against multiple repeats in Col C. AS per data below ....
I have a column with 10,000+ lines, and lots of them are duplicated.
I have a formula that tells me how many times they are duplicated, but it only looks for 100% matching cells.
Now, lots of cells are partially duplicated, for example:
A1 - Team Abcde
A2 - Team Abcde Fghi
B1 - Team Abc
I would like to have a formula giving me a percentage of how two cells are similar to each others by checking the words. In this case, B1 is 50% similar to A1 because only the word 'Team' is duplicated. B1 is only 33,34% similar to A2.
I have pulled a task of Content Managent. we are going to look at a bunch of files for a key list of words. Is there a way look at the text in a file and find a word within it?
Reporting the link to the doc.. display ... will all come later.
I know it will be slow and may run for a day or two but I would run it over the week end.
Im hoping there is an Excel Formula (not VBA Code) solution to this problem.
I understand how to use the Substitute command in Excel, but I would like to be able to provide a list of words and have the Substitute command use that list to replace every occurrence within a given cell with a blank ("").
The twist to this is, that the List of Words will be Dynamic, and thus the formula will need to account for that.
NOTE: the formula should NOT replace parts of words, e.g., if the List Word is "can" and the cell to be evaluated contains "candle" the formula should NOT replace the "can" in "candle" with "". Only whole word matches should be replaced.
I am suffering with split a long descriptions into 3 cells with criteria 1st cell not more than 30 characters, 2nd cell not more than characters and 3rd cell will locate the remaining characters there. I think this is quite easy if I use LEN/MID/RIGHT/LEFT formula. However, I wish the formula will smart enough to split word by word. refer to example below:-
"My lecturer replied, that i really did very bad in final, nothing's gonna change my plan."
If I use left(A1,30) formula, the result is "My lecturer replied, that i re"however, the word "really" is cut half way. I am finding the formula that split description to not more than 30 characters and won't cut my string and become incomplete word. Expected result should be 1st cell "My lecturer replied, that i", then "really did very bad in final," at 2nd cell.

Sometimes, however, the worksheet cells contain simply combinations of last names like "JONES SMITH LEE" or other combinations. And, the last names appear in random order. So, I'd like to able to filter all rows that contain portions of the string without having to worry about the order and the exact string, etc. If the autofilter can return rows anytime it finds Jones, Smith or Lee regardless of order, that's be great.

I have a list of 30 words that I am filtering a column of sentences for. If I put the list of 30 in column A and the list of 10,000 sentences in column B, is there a formula that will identify the cells with sentences that contain a word from column A?
I'm trying to use the advance filter for multiple criteria in one column. It works fine if the criteria is ="*10*" (ie where the cell in the range has 10 in the string) plus other = criteria. What I cannot get to work is where the range doesn't equal 10 in the string. I've tried ="<>*10*" and other variations to no joy.

I have code that runs through multiple arrays trying to match data to items in the arrays and it takes a long time to run.

That's basically what the code does. however, it takes an extremely long time to get through with everything as each array increases in size.
I have a workbook with 4 sheets one is called final and the other 3 are data1, data2, and data3. The data sheets have the actual data I am needing to pull from. Each has two rows of data: data1 has employee number in column A and employee code in column B. Data2 has employee code in column A and employee name in column B. Data3 has employee name in column A and employee email in column B. Now I need to pull the info form all three sheets into the sheet names final. So the final sheet needs to contain 4 columns for employee number, employee code, employee name, and employee email. The kicker is the data sheets don't line up with each other within each sheet it does but the first one in data1 is not the first in data3 and so on.

I've got two tables of information here, if you scroll to the far right of table 1 and look at the left of table two, you'll see a common code like:
AMWG16=01_0211-20
AMWG16=01_0212-16
and these entries will appear multiple times as well
AMWG16=01_0212-16
appears twice and the data is different and will need to be added up
How can I:
1. Add up the data on each table with the common string such as "AMWG16=01_0212-16"
2. Take all the data that has been added up and combine the statistics, for example,
when its all done it should show
AMWG16=01_0212-16
in the first column, and then all the statistics from the two tables in the columns to the right.
I'm guesssing...
Since some entries appear multiple times, you will need to sum up all the unique entries for that value. Say:
AMWG16=01_0211-20
Shows up three times, you'll need to sum up all the values and this needs to be done on both tables

You can combine the data

hello. i'm new to excel and i'm really hoping for some serious help here. i have the basics down however i'm really stumped at this point. Let me try to explain my worksheet. the worksheet has a sheet for data which is used for drop list values in the new patient template sheet. the new patient template which is just that a blank entry sheet that the user duplicates and adds a new patient to the worksheet to track the visits made by medical staff. there could be over a hundred new patient sheets (each named by the patient) at any given time.
here is what i need help with: my sheet is setup on a monthly basis so each patient has a total of 4 - 5 weeks listed with entries for everytime a nurse visits that patient. what i need to know is how to search the cell entries for the first time a visit occurred and the date it occurred and this needs to be broken down by the 1st of the month - the 15th and then again for the 16th - the end of month for every patient sheet in the workbook. the ranges are not together that i need to search for example f14:f20, i14:i20, f35:f41 and so on for the first 15 days of the month. this all needs to happen like in a macro or somehow automatically.
