Formula That Returns The Cell Address Of The Last Cell > 0 In A Range
Jul 16, 2008I am looking for a formula that returns the cell address of the last cell > 0 in a range.
in the example: A1CLA23 8
4546557528
the result should be A7.

Is there a formula in Excel that returns the active cell address (ie dynamically). Excel updates the activecell address in the Name Box dynamically as you make a selection but I cannot find a standard formula to access it. I know I can achieve this with code using the selection-change event but this action then disallows use of the Undo button - which I specifically want to avoid. Perhaps there is an add-in available?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to do a formula that references a cell and returns a different result dependant on the number in the cell being referenced.
For example I've said if A1 has a 3 in it then put the word TEST as the result, plus if it has a 4 put the word RESULT.
What I wrote as my formula is as follows-
=IF(A1=3,"TEST")+IF(A1=4,"RESULT")
It works fine when I only use one result but goes wrong when I add two. If I change the words I want to show to numbers it comes up fine but with words it just returns a Value error.
My company hires out equipment and we need to keep track of where a piece of equipment was at a given time and who to charge the equipment to for a particular week or month.
Each piece of equipment will have a separate sheet, which will list all of the hire contracts which have been placed on that machine:
Column B: Hirer name
Column C: Contract start date
Column D: Contract expiry date
Then there will be a main sheet (Summary) which will have all equipment listed, and all of the chargeable dates listed (see example below)
Week 1 ||
Week Commencing (B6) |Week Ending (C6) ||
25/11/2013 (B7) | 1/12/2013 (C7) ||
I want to add a Box underneath each piece of equipment on the main sheet that will show who to charge to. For example, underneath Week 1, I want it to show who the hirer is based on whether the Week Commencing to Week Ending dates fit within the contract start and expiry dates.
I have come up with a formula that almost works, but I can only get it to refer to a single cell in the equipment sheet. As soon as I try to get it to refer to all columns, it just automatically comes up with 'not on hire'.
This is my formula: =IF(AND(('Equipment1'!C14<='Summary'!C7),('Equipment1'!D14>='Summary'!B7)),('Equipment'!B14),"Not on hire")
I have a formula that looks at a cell on a front sheet, and then returns the contents of that cell as the result if it meets the criteria. So for example this formula would be in Cell A1 on Sheet2 IF(SHEET1!A1,"New",Sheet1!A1,"-")
This formula is always in the same cell (different sheet) as the cell that it is looking at, down 1500 rows. Instead of having the formula named for each cell is there anyway to ask excel to 'look at this cell but on this other sheet'.
e.g IF(Sheet1!"This Cell" etc). That way no matter what cell you put the formula in it is always referencing the correct cell for the formula?
I wrote an IF AND formular to display "Yes" for a cell with zero. but when the cell is also empty, it still returns a "Yes" instead of empty.
this is the formular:
=IF(J2=3,"Yes",IF(AND(E2="",I2=0),"Yes","No"))
when I2 = 0 it returns Yes
Also with I2 = "", it still returns "Yes" instead of "No"
I searched and I keep finding something that's not quite what I'm looking to do so I think I'm missing something really simple.
Let's say that I want each cell in col b to be the sum of 5 plus whatever value is in the cell adjacent to it on the left (col).
I know that you can just write a formula in each cell like...
b1 will be =sum(a1+5)
b2 will be =sum(a2+5)
... but is there a shortcut so that you don't have to write out the actual cell address for each one?
Meaning - is there a predefined name or something that represents the cell to the left or right so you can just use that instead, allowing you to just copy paste the same formula all the way down the column? Something like...
b1 will be =sum(left+5)
b2 will be =sum(left+5)
... where "left" represents whatever value is in the cell to the left of that particular cell?
how can I use the cell function inside a NPV fuction as one argument of the start for the NPV string to calculate?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 sheets. In the first sheet, I have 3 columns. The first column contains transaction codes. The 2nd column contains the destination code (like a mapping cell where the value of the 3rd column would go but in a different sheet/2nd sheet) and the 3rd column contains the values for it. Would it be possible to reference a destination in a cell itself? Or should I just code it individually? I wouldnt want to reference each data one by one because the total would be 480 reference cells. Is there an easier way?

I have a VLOOKUP formula in a cell that refers to another cell that has a formula in it.
When I type the actual numerical result (rather than the formula) in the formula cell, the vlookup works. When the formula (that equals the same number) is in there, the vlookup cell is returning #n/a.
I have a simple formula subtracting one cell from another using =SUM(XX,-XX). When I click on fx and bring up the function arguments box, the formula result is displayed correctly in that box. However, the cell containing the formula will only display a zero. I have tried reformatting the cells to no avail. I have also tried getting a result using =XX-XX and that does not work either.

c = 1
For i = 1 To ws.Range("AD" & rc).Value
ws.Range("AE" & rc).Value = Application.InputBox

rng(2) = sh(0).Range("AG2").Value
I have a variable which contains the column number. How do I then reference a range in VBA using that column number, as opposed to the letter? I know how to convert the number into the letter, but I also know there has to be something more simpler. For instance, a form of the ADDRESS function, but in VBA?

I've set up a macro to create around 50 http links (sites which i need to monitor every week but whose addresses change slightly every month)
I've also got a macro to open up all these web pages at once so I can look at them in internet explorer.
When these links are nicely created into cells the http link isn't recognised straight away by excel (e.g. doesn't go blue & underlined) until i click in the cell & change or return the cell value - as part of the autocorrect function i think.
Is there a way of getting excel to automatically recognise the http links without having to go individually into every cell.
In VBA how do I specify the value of a cell in the formula instead of the cell address?
In the case below the result of the given cell is =E18*$A1$
What I want is this: =E18*0.3 (where 0.3 is the value of $A$1)
construct a formula that finds a value in a range , then returns the cell address of that value.
Say, i wanted to find the amount 12385 from another sheet , range C2:AA12 (contains only numbers , no duplicates). result should give me the address of that value.
I have tried the address & match function but gives me an N/A error.
Retrieving the address of the last cell before the FIRST blank in a range.
OK, I have searched the web through six different search engines and explored too many dead end solutions to this problem that I am nearly ready to just scrap the whole sheet.
The problem is very simple.
I need to return the address of the last cell that contains data before the FIRST blank cell.
Heck, I don’t even need to have the address, I can just index the position.
Problem is this question has been posted on nearly every excel help forum from here to pokipsy.
Unfortunately EVERY solution I have seen fails the “FIRST blank” requirement.
I have a column of data that never has blanks until the end of the data. I need to know what that cell address is in order to identify a range.
This data has a table above it and below it so none of the “dynamic range” or “Dynamic range name” solutions will work.
How do you get that address without the function continuing to the last blank cell?
I have a named range BGl (G1:R1). I would like to see if a cell address ($U$6) is within the columns of that range. I need a function to give me a true or false based on changing cell addresses.

I have a list of ID's on one sheet that are also located in a large matrix on another sheet.
This macro uses the Find_Range function to find each ID within the matrix and return the column header where the ID was first located.
There is also a line which return a list of ranges, indicating all the places where the ID was found.
What I want is to convert the list of ranges into a list of corresponding column headers (ie row 1 of all columns in the range)
' Number of id's in list
RowCnt = Application.WorksheetFunction. CountA(Columns("A"))
For I = 2 To RowCnt
LookFor = Sheets("ID List").Range("A" & I)

Set Found = Find_Range(LookFor, InRng, xlValues, xlWhole)

.Cells(1, Range(Found.Address).Column) ' Return column header
Sheets("ID List").Range("D" & I) = Found.Address(False, False) ' Return cell address or range of addresses

I am trying to create an XY scatter plot with multiple series. Normally, one has to manually type in or mouse-drag a range for each x series and y series. Instead I would like to build these two ranges (x and y) with text functions and place them in a cell.
For example:
A1: 'data'!$C$3:$C$10
B1: 'data'!$D$3:$D$10
Then, when I create a chart, instead of mouse-dragging, for the x-series, I'll indicate the range that's specified within Cell A1, and for the y series, that which is in B1. I would then repeat this for each series. The reason I want to do this is because I have dozens of series and dozens of graphs and it is relatively easy to programatically identify the range boundaries, but long and tedious to mouse drag them.
I have a sheet with multiple tabs - 1 per employee. I'm trying to run an index on a select tab based on the contents of a cell in order to do a summary across all employees/tabs.
The person's name is Tulley and is listed on the summary page in cell A11. =INDEX(TULLEY!$B$4:$M$5,1,$B11) returns the correct value. I would like to replace the tab reference with the name of the person concatenated with an exclamation point. This yields TULLEY! -
INDIRECT("A11")&"!". I thought that I would be able to replace the TULLEY! in the index formula with the indirect formula. This formula returns TULLEY!, but the index function doesn't work: =INDEX(INDIRECT("A11")&"!"&$B$4:$M$5,1,$B11).
