Is there a formula in Excel that returns the active cell address (ie dynamically). Excel updates the activecell address in the Name Box dynamically as you make a selection but I cannot find a standard formula to access it. I know I can achieve this with code using the selection-change event but this action then disallows use of the Undo button - which I specifically want to avoid. Perhaps there is an add-in available?
I need to locate the address of the previous active cell without triggering a selectionchange event (as this is where my code is activated from). Here is what I am currently using unsuccessfully:
I have an embedded chart on my worksheet.I can select a cell behind the chart using the keyboard arrow keys.Is there a way of doing this using a mouse click,so that I know which cell i am pointing to/choosing?
Let's say I have a standard Vlookup formula entered in cell C2
Code: =Vlookup(A2,Sheet2!$B$2:$C$10000,2,0)
For that formula there may be 100 matches found in Sheet2, each with a different return option and obviously the above formula only returns data from the first found match.
Is there some way to drastically change that simple formula in VBA script to ...
1. Auto fill formula down 100 rows & return all possible return options upon match and not just the first return given upon the first found match 2. Make the lookup value be the A cell in the active row
I have a VLOOKUP formula in a cell that refers to another cell that has a formula in it.
When I type the actual numerical result (rather than the formula) in the formula cell, the vlookup works. When the formula (that equals the same number) is in there, the vlookup cell is returning #n/a.
I'm trying to do a formula that references a cell and returns a different result dependant on the number in the cell being referenced.
For example I've said if A1 has a 3 in it then put the word TEST as the result, plus if it has a 4 put the word RESULT.
What I wrote as my formula is as follows-
=IF(A1=3,"TEST")+IF(A1=4,"RESULT")
It works fine when I only use one result but goes wrong when I add two. If I change the words I want to show to numbers it comes up fine but with words it just returns a Value error.
I have a simple formula subtracting one cell from another using =SUM(XX,-XX). When I click on fx and bring up the function arguments box, the formula result is displayed correctly in that box. However, the cell containing the formula will only display a zero. I have tried reformatting the cells to no avail. I have also tried getting a result using =XX-XX and that does not work either.
I have a formula that looks at a cell on a front sheet, and then returns the contents of that cell as the result if it meets the criteria. So for example this formula would be in Cell A1 on Sheet2 IF(SHEET1!A1,"New",Sheet1!A1,"-")
This formula is always in the same cell (different sheet) as the cell that it is looking at, down 1500 rows. Instead of having the formula named for each cell is there anyway to ask excel to 'look at this cell but on this other sheet'. e.g IF(Sheet1!"This Cell" etc). That way no matter what cell you put the formula in it is always referencing the correct cell for the formula?
The results of the formula in cell K36 in the attached spreadsheet returns a value of null. It should be $1,200. Am I blind or have I done something wrong. I just can't see the problem with the formula.
I have 2 tables, 1 beneath the other - table 1 columns represent date ranges and their values. Columns and their data are alternating color coding. Table 2 references, by means of array formula, this data - IS it possible to include the font color as a result?
I searched and I keep finding something that's not quite what I'm looking to do so I think I'm missing something really simple.
Let's say that I want each cell in col b to be the sum of 5 plus whatever value is in the cell adjacent to it on the left (col).
I know that you can just write a formula in each cell like...
b1 will be =sum(a1+5) b2 will be =sum(a2+5)
... but is there a shortcut so that you don't have to write out the actual cell address for each one?
Meaning - is there a predefined name or something that represents the cell to the left or right so you can just use that instead, allowing you to just copy paste the same formula all the way down the column? Something like...
b1 will be =sum(left+5) b2 will be =sum(left+5)
... where "left" represents whatever value is in the cell to the left of that particular cell?
If I have 12 sheets in a workbook (Jan, Feb,etc..) can I have those names in specific cells (A1,B1,etc..) and call them out in a formula as the cell name as opposed to the actual name?
Is there any formula to find text and return its cell address? This is like when we use Ctrl+F function to find a text, and Excel then highlight the cell contains the referred text. At the same time, the name-bar displays the address of the cell. Now, is there any formula that can perform such task like this?
I am trying to use the code below to enter formulas into two different cells.
The first code "ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "code" is running ok.
But the second one "ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=IF(IFERROR(IF(AND(1*LEFT(D2,2)>=61,1*LEFT(D2,2)<=65),VLOOKUP(AA2,'abc'!A:C,3,FALSE),""),"")="",D2,D2&AA2)" is getting error.
Sub Combine() Dim wbk1 As Workbook, wbk2 As Workbook
I have a "Match" formula in a cell that gives me the Row number of the Cell matching the criteria (lets say row 502) and the Column is always B. With VBA I want to make my ActiveCell the cell (B502) referred by the "MATCH" Formula.
I have 2 sheets. In the first sheet, I have 3 columns. The first column contains transaction codes. The 2nd column contains the destination code (like a mapping cell where the value of the 3rd column would go but in a different sheet/2nd sheet) and the 3rd column contains the values for it. Would it be possible to reference a destination in a cell itself? Or should I just code it individually? I wouldnt want to reference each data one by one because the total would be 480 reference cells. Is there an easier way?
I want to insert a new row that contains the formulas of a fixed row (1:1). The inserted row is changeable and is determined by whichever is the current active cell.
Eg:
Active cell is something random like E16
I want to add a new row but don't want a blank row - rather want a row that contains the properties of 1:1
I would like to use this formula many times in the sheet, so I would need a reference to the cell the formula is in, and have the SUM range until the next empty cell one column to the left.
So I would need something like (literally):
=SUM(Offset activecell (1,-1) : Offset activecell (1, (look for next empty cell -1)) / Offset activecell (0,-1)
I have a range of unlocked cells (B5:S10) that users enter data in. This sum of this data is then charted. The formula (sum) in a cell equals zero even when there is no data entered by the user. This zero is then charted.
I need to be able to plot the zeros if the user enters zeros but not plot the zero if the cells are blank.
What I was attempting to do is to use the worksheet change event to add the formulas to a cell so that the chart does not plot the value until something was added.
In my change event I need to know that a cell in the range (B5:S10) was changed and that if it was D7 (for example) that I need a formula enterd in D11 [=SUM(D5:D10)]. If it was I5 then the formula would have to go in I11 [=SUM(I5:I10)].
Assume the following list of addresses are all in separate cells of a single column (A1-A4). I just need the formula to extract the street addresses, and then a separate formula to extract the zip codes.
