Looped Error Check Not Working: Error 1004 Is Generated When A Match Cannot Be Found In The Spreadsheet
Jul 2, 2006
the if stattement works perfectly and does exactly what i want except when it comes to the else part. if there is no error the statements are run perfectly but if there is an error (in this case the error is generated when a match cannot be found in the spreadsheet) the else statement doesnt kick in and post the msgbox.
the code just crashes. and returns an error 1004 on the line i have highlighted in yellow
res = WorksheetFunction.Match(invvar, Columns(1), 0)
If Not IsError(res) Then
Me.txtClientID.Value = ws13. Cells(res, 7)
Me.txtNumber.Value = ws13.Cells(res, 7)
Me.txtDate.Value = ws13.Cells(res, 8)
'save client id as a variable

Private Sub Worksheet_Activate()
Sheets("Search Inv").Protect UserInterFaceOnly:=True
ActiveSheet.Range("A17:F37,C39:C42,F39:F42").Select
Selection.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeConstants, 23).Select
Selection.ClearContents
End Sub
Above is meant to clear the contents of cells that contain formulas while keeping the formulas.
The sheet is protected ... no password
What is wrong ... when I activate the sheet I get: Run Time error 1004 / no cells found
(All cells that are meant to be cleared are selected ... they just don't clear)

This macro starts out looking for the first non blank cell by looking down about a hundred cells and then going back up till it finds the first non blank cell. When it finds the first non-blank cell it goes up 1 row and adds 1 to the number for the next row. It works fine the first time then, after the file is saved it will stop the macro with the following message; Run-time error ‘1004’ No cells were found. If I format the cells in question, the macro works again until I save the file, then it happens again.
Excel 2003 11.8220.8221 SP3
I think there is a hotfix for this but I can't get it to install. Is there a way around this?
This is the portion of the code that gets the error:
Range("A11:A100").Select
Selection.SpecialCells(xlCellTypeBlanks).Select
ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = "=+R[-1]C+1"

The script below scans through a specified folder on a network and scans every xls file inside that folder for a value. When it finds the spreadsheet which contains that value (a policy number) it outputs some of the data from the matching file and also provides a link to the sheet in question.
It worked perfectly until I saved, exited and re-opened the file and now I am getting a 1004 run-time error every time I try and execute the script.
I cant for the life of me work out a cause.
More baffling, the wording of the error says that the file 'R:DirCancellations.xls' could not be found.
At no point is a file called 'Cancellations.xls' specified. Why has the script decided to search for a file called 'Cancellations'?
Sub Search()
ActiveSheet.unprotect
ActiveWorkbook.unprotect
Dim wb As Workbook
Dim TheFile As String
Dim MyPath As String
Dim DirLoc As String
Dim PolNum As String
ActiveSheet.Range("C13:G25").ClearContents................

we've been using this spreadsheet as a timesheet since May of 2002. Recently in the past couple of days when we try to update an employee's time and date of work done by clicking on an update button on the first Worksheet, an error (Runtime Error '1004' Method 'Range' of object '_Global' failed) pops up.
Clicking the 'Debug' button opens a window up with this information:

I have some code that, although works fine in Excel 2003, does not in Excel 1997. I receive this error when I try running it:
COMPILE ERROR:
NAMED ARGUMENT NOT FOUND
Sub HPVAL()
Dim r As Range, myStr As String
myStr = "HP"
Set r = Cells. Find(What:=myStr, After:=ActiveCell, LookIn:=xlFormulas, LookAt _
:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:= _
False, SearchFormat:=False)
If Not r Is Nothing Then
r = r.Value
While Not r Is Nothing
Set r = Cells.FindNext(r)
If Not r Is Nothing Then
r = r.Value
End If
Wend
End If
End Sub
It looks like Excel is getting hung up on the "SearchFormat:=" portion of the code.

I have a very simple spreadsheet that generates a "backing page" for items to be physically pasted to (essentially nothing more than printing a header). I have the following code under "This Workbook" to avoid being prompted to save changes when closing, as this spreadsheet is just a template and changes should not be saved...
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
ActiveWorkbook.Close False
End Sub
The code does as is intended, but, if any other spreadsheets are open at the same time, I get an error message pop-up saying "EXCEL has encountered an error - an error log has been generated"... Excel then shuts down. So, first question; where should I look for the error log?

Before I go into details I am working in one workbook with several worksheets(Tabs) in the workbook. I have three Buttons on one tab. the button I am having trouble with is the third. I want to insert a column in a separate tab that contains approximately 87,000 rows of data. I then want to do a row count and select the empty cells in the inserted column and put a formula in there. I have tried a loop VBA code and it works, but it takes about 30 minutes to run all the way through. The underlined portion is what is higlighted with error 1004: Application-defined ro object-defined error. I am not sure how to fix this. This is what I have now:

Error Check Marco.xlsm
see attached example. I am trying to write an error detection routine that iterates through worksheets that have numeric values for names (ignore text names or alphanumeric). Macro checks range on each numeric worksheet E3:E33 and is supposed to report back on the SummarySheet if any value other than 1 or 0 is found in range E3:E33 on any numeric-name worksheet. Code as follows:
[Code] ....
Problem is that it just reports EVERY worksheet as having an error when clearly most don't (none do I think in the attached example).
Try changing some of ranges E3:E33 to values other than 1 or 0, it still reports all sheets. Why the macro does not evaluate the range E3:E33 properly and just reports every worksheet as having an error?

So the issue I am having is that I have a worksheet with two long rows of value. If the user enters the incorrect value, the program gives a error case of 1004. If and when this error occurs I want the program to send a MessageBox to the user then end the program. The problem that I am running into is that whenever I write On Error Goto... It Goes to the label whenever any runtime error occurs. My belief is that there has to be a way to only check for a runtime error on a single line of code rather than the entire sub.

I have a relatively complex report that I work with and a worksheet is no longer required. I have deleted the worksheet and reference to it hwoever when running the macro to pull all the data, it gets to the summary of all the data and i get the Run Time Error 1004 Application-defined or object-defined error pop up. ON reviewing it, it is on this line ActiveCell.Offset(0, 0).Range("a1:a" & Range_Height).Select of the below code...
VB:
Sub GetRangeName()
Sheets("TOTAL").Select
[Code].....
use code tags around code. Posting code without them makes your code hard to read and difficult to be copied for testing. Highlight your code and click the # at the top of your post window.

I keep getting a Run Time Error 1004 (Application Defined or Object Defined Error) when my sub reaches this line:
ActiveCell.Formula = "=SUM(D222,D224,D226,D227,D229,...)"
In the actual line of code the "..." above is another 20-30 or so cells in column "D". Probably no more than 150-170 characters in the line.
If I remove half of the cell range names it works, but I need all of the cell ranges for the equation.

Anyways, I am having difficult understanding why I am getting the following error:

I am using code that I just copied over from a worksheet where it was working fine. This is part of it.

It is on the line Set LastRow
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()

In one worksheet i have created the following code, which adds date to
specific column when data is entered in colum A.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Excel.Range)
If Target.Column = 1 Then
Target.Offset(0, 10).Value = Now()
End If
End Sub
The problem is that when trying to delete a whole row, error message pops-up.
Run-time error '1004' Application-defined or object -defined error. When click "End" actually everthing is ok, the row has been deleted, but was just wondering what is causing that error.

I'm using VB 6.5 and Excel 2007. I've got a workbook that has code that creates another workbook (by copying sheets out of the current workbook) and drops a button on that workbook and creates a macro for that button. Everything works except one thing which gives me
Runtime Error 1004: Unable to update the Caption Property of the Button Class.
If I run the code manually (rather than calling the subroutine from from within another subroutine) it runs without error but if I call it from within the subroutine that copies sheets from the original workbook to a new workbook I get the error. Any idea why this might be? What I might be doing wrong? The code for this subroutine is as follows:
Sub CreateButton()
Dim btnMyButton As Button
Set btnMyButton = ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(460, 75, 140, 30)
btnMyButton.Caption = "Delete and Update Charts and Lists"
End Sub

Is there a limit on the amout of pictures you can use with the statement me.pictures.visible? Reason being, I am trying to import 119 pictures into a spreadsheet. When the information is selected form a drop down list, it pulls up the 1 of the 119 pictures. I was able to get 54 pictures input. Everything was going great until the 55th. When it stared giving me an error...
______________________________________________
Runtime Error '1004':
Unable to set the Visible property of the Pictures class
______________________________________________
When I select Debug, it takes me to the line with Me.Pictures.Visible = False
Everything seems to work fine until I enter the 55th picture. If it is that, is there a viable work around?
