Making A Cell Change Background Color Based On If Positive Or Negative Sum Total
I have excel sheet with colored cells.
Positive cash flow cells all have green background,
Negative cash flow cells, all have red background.
I calculate all the "sub- total" columns into one "total sum" cell. Based on this "total sum" I want the cell background to be red if the total sum is negative, or green if total sum is positive. How do I make the cell change to the proper background color based on whether it's a negative or postive total sum?

Number To Change Color For Positive & Negative
I am wanting to finish a worksheet for my boss. What I have done so far is taken the " forecast" of vehicles shown and used a formula of subtract from "actual" vehicles sold to get "how many we have left to go". what he wants to do is have the "to go" number change from red when a negative to green when it reaches a positive. example:
forecast = 30
actual = 27
to go = -3
that "to go" needs to be without a negative sign but in RED to negate a negative. Is that possible with a formula??
Change Cell Background Color Based On Data?
I want to change the color of a cell's background based on valid data in the cell. I have a pull-down list, it uses a named list, and this all works fine. I want the cell to be red, and then after the user selects a valid entry from the pull-down list, I want to change the cell to yellow.
Change Cell Background Color Based On Multiple Conditions
My Excel skills are basic at best, with no knowledge of VBA other than finding the VB Editor. What I'm trying to do: Attached is the file I'm working with, to give you a better idea. When a name is selected in column B, the cells in the non corresponding columns E to N should have a black background color. For example, when you select Mike in column B, the cells in that row in columns I to N, named Dave and Dean, should become black. If you select the name Dave, columns E to H (Mike) and M to N (Dean) should become black. In addition, the background color of the non-black cells should change depending on the status.
OK : green
The attached file shows a few possible results, manually entered.
Modify Code To Change Cell Background Color
I have the code below set to change the background color based on certain conditions. What I need to do is change it so that if none of the conditions are met, it does not change the color at all. As it is written now, if anything is entered in a cell that has a background already set, but does not meet these conditions, the cell turns white.
Formula To Change A Negative No To A Positive
This may be more of a math question rather than an Excel one.
If I have a spreadsheet with a cell that produces different negative number each time it is used, is there a way i can add a formula to make it a positive number.
So if Cell A1 showed -£244.22, I want to add an equation that changes if to £244.22
Cell A1 changes so it would need to do the same for any negative number within that cell.
Macro Button To Change Background Color Of Specific Cell
My boss wants a spreadsheet that has multiple buttons on it that will change the background color of a specific cell to four different colors. Example:
Text written in Cell B3, Button in Cell A3 that will change the Background color of Cell B3 to either Green, Yellow, Red or Blue.
There will be a lot of buttons on this worksheet following the same format as above. I don't want to change the value of what is in the cell, just the background color.
Macro: Change Positive Values To Negative
I use data on a text file and import this into Excel and use a macro to format. The data lists invoices and credit notes and their dollar value.
Due to a fault in the program that creates the text file all dollar amounts are shown as positive figures. Credit note amounts should correctly be shown as negative figures.
The invoice number format is 8 characters beginning with a letter and credit notes begin with a number.
Is there macro code that will change credit note values to a negative figure?
Find Where Values Change From Positive To Negative
I have a series that comprises of two rows:
Row 1 is date
Row 2 are values
I am trying to find a formula where I can identify where in row two the value chages from positive to negative, and where it changes from positive to negative it should return the date the value changes from positive to negative ie:
ROW 1 08-Jan 09-Jan 10-Jan
ROW 2 1111 22222 -33333
The formula should identify that in row 2 the negative value occurs at -33333 and at the 10th of January.
Positive To Negative If Cell On Left Negative
I have data starting in E7. I want it to go down the column and find the negative numbers. If it finds one then I want it to change the number in the row to the left of it to a negative. So if E67 is a negative number, make D67 a negative and so forth down the line Sounds "simple" but how do I do it?
Change Font Color Based On Adjacent Cell Color
I have two columns. The first one (A) contains cells that have different Fill colors. The second column (B) contains text adjacent to the colored cells. I am trying to change the color of the text in the second column (B) to the corresponding color in the adjacent cell in the first column (A). I don't think conditional formating works well in this situation. I believe the solution would be some sort of macro.
Change Background Color When Exceeding A Certain Number In Cells?
I got an excel sheet were in column A i have listed a few names and in column B I got their respective results (numbers) with a background color.
I want to insert a function in such a way that when their numbers exceed a certain number the background color changes from for example blue to green.
so >1200 = blue background color
1200-1350 = red
< 1350 = green
Change Text Color Based On Cell Color
I have various row cells in column (F) filled with the color Green. And corresponding text in Column G. How can I change the text of that particular row to white.
i.e.: if any cell in column F is Green, change the text color of that row in Column G to white?
Filter Rows Based On Background Color
how to filter rows based on the background color used in a cell? I need to make a macro that will filter/hide all rows where the cell in column B has the background color set to Yellow. Is there a way to test for that so I could get a true/false value in a column to filter by?
Conditional Format Based On Background Color
I'm attempting to write a conditional format formula that will change the background color based on multiple color options on in a row. I have cell A:c as first, last and middle name. I utilize the rest 40+ cells that provides dates that are conditionally formatted to based on dates. I've approached this trying to reference the columns dates and cannot figure it out. Heres what I would like to do:
If any cell in from D:Z has a background color of red, yellow, green, and none it will change the background color in cells A:C. Its easy to reference one cell but not multiple. I've attached a sample of what I would like to do and I manually changed to cells A:C to show how I would like to show my results.
Change Cell Color Based On Value
I'm putting the sum of 3 cells in a 4th cell(D2). If the sum is greater, I would like the sum to be the color green. If the sum is less, I would like the sum to be the color red. Is this possible?
(D2) has change value, I want to compare the new value against the existing one.
Change Cell Color Based On Number
Can I change the color of a cell based on my deviation from the number based above it? I am making a golf spreadsheet to base my performance off of, and I was wondering if I could make the cell change color based on my performance on the hole (different color for how many strokes above or under par). If anyone has any idea on this issue, please let me know.
Change Color Of Cell Based On Date
In an excell worksheet I need to change the color of a cell within a column based on the date entered. For example, if the date in the cell is 60 days from today's date then the cell should be green, if the date in the cell is 90 days from today's then the cell should be blue, if the date in the cell is 120 days from today's date then the cell should be yello.
Change The Fill Color Of A Cell Based On Its Value
I'm using Excel 2003- and I am trying to change the fillColor of a cell based on the value of that cell.
If I use Conditional Formatting I can only use 3 colors, I'd like to use 8 or 9. Is there another way to do this without using the Conditional Formatting?
I'd like the result to look something like this-
I've looked at the similar threads in this Forum, but I couldn't find exactly what I needed.
Change The Tab Color Based On A Cell Value
I'm trying to change the tab color based on a cell value. This I can do, but only using a Change Event with code in the Worksheet section. I would like it to update more instantly and without the need for a Change on the sheet to occur. So I was thinking a Worksheet_Activate event, or perhaps a Workbook_Activate event, but i can't get it to work.
For further info, if not confusing, the cell referenced in code below (on the Dan sheet) is filled using a user entered variable when the workbook is opened. Depending on this value, i would like the tabs to update their color accordingly and instantly, as well as the color updating if the cell B3 on the sheet is changed. Perhaps I need a Worksheet Activate & Deactivate and Workbook Activate and Deactivate?
Public sPeriod As Long
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
sPeriod = Worksheets("Dan").Cells(2, 4).Value
If Target.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub
If Target.Address(False, False) = "B3" Then
Select Case UCase(Target.Value)
Case sPeriod - 1: ActiveSheet.Tab.Color = RGB(0, 0, 255)
Case Else: ActiveSheet.Tab.Color = RGB(255, 0, 0)
Change Color Of All Cells On Sheet Based Off Of One Cell Value
I want to change the fill color of all cells on my sheet, based on the value of one specific cell. In my sheet, I am using cell F1 as the trigger for the change. If the word Blue is in the cell, I want the background color of all cells to be Blue. Likewise for Red and Yellow as well. I don't believe conditional formatting can get this done, as all but the one cell (for this) will be empty.
Change Bubble Chart Color Based On Cell Value
Let Sheet 1 have data in 3 columns to support a standard bubble chart
Col A: X Values
Col B: Y Values
Col C: Bubble Size
Id like to be able to color the bubbles according to the Y values, whether the Y values fall within the following ranges
Green for Y <=2
Orange for 2<Y<=5
Red for Y > 5
Im assuming some straightforward VB code is in the works but Im not quite there yet
Sum Based Upon Cell Color - Multiple Times
I have a workbook with a tab called "parts list" where there are thousands of parts with prices. I need to sum all of the parts based upon their location within the list. The list is divided with the following headers - Yellow (Assemblies), Gray (Sub-Assemblies) there can be many under a yellow header, and Green (Components) there can be many under a Gray header.
I have been summing the areas manually, and I am hoping for a more automated way of creating the totals by running a macro.
I need to sum (Column K) from Yellow+1 to Yellow-1 and deposit the sum in the starting Yellow row - Column L. This needs to be repeated for as many Yellow Headers as there are in the list. I then need to repeat the process for Gray Headers - Col K, Gray+1 to Gray-1, and put total in starting Gray header, Column L. Once again, there can be many Gray Headers under a Yellow header, and this needs t be repeated throughout the list. I then need to repeat this for the Green Headers - same as above Gray. I am hoping that this can be done by color, but if it's easier, I can sort the list by color and in column M, add an "A" to all Yellow Headers, "S" to all Gray Headers, "C" to all Green Headers, and "E" to represent the end of the component list -
Return Background Color Of Cell
On one worksheet I have a list of colours in cells. I want to be able to look in the list the list and return the background colour of that cell. The function i am using is:
'1.1' is the worksheet name, $C28 is the cell (coloured blue)
It seems to work because I am getting the correct background colour in the new worksheet, however it also returns the number(37) as well.
I just want the background colour to be shown only, not the color's number as well.
Function CellColorIndex(InRange As Range, Optional _
OfText As Boolean = False) As Integer
' This function returns the ColorIndex value of a the Interior
' (background) of a cell, or, if OfText is true, of the Font in the cell.
If OfText = True Then
CellColorIndex = InRange(1, 1).Font.ColorIndex
CellColorIndex = InRange(1, 1).Interior.ColorIndex
Change Cell Color Based On Cell Content
I have a chart full of different names which I need to separate them by color when a specific entry is found in a Cell. For example the list has the store name "ZELLERS" + its branch number. (ex. ZELLERS #276 PL or ZELLERS #295 SL and so on). I would like to modify the below code so that It only check for the name ZELLERS and not the branch number. If it finds ZELLERS in any cell In the Range of C1:C500 then color it Red.
Below Code does that but I have to write the exact name as it appears in the cell otherwise it wont find it for me. Is there any way to resolve the issue? I am not an Excel Programmer but Only an Excel user.
Option Compare Text
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
Set r = Range("C1:C500")
If Intersect(Target, r) Is Nothing Then
On Error GoTo Endit
Application.EnableEvents = False
vals = Array("ZELLERS #276 PL", "ZELLERS #295 SL", "Gopher", "Hyena", "Ibex", "Lynx")
nums = Array(3, 46, 6, 3, 7, 4, 20, 10, 23, 15)
For Each rr In r..........................
Matching Negative Value W/ Corresponding Positive Value
I have a spreadsheet of invoices and credits memos (500+ rows). Is there a way to match the positive and negatives that match? For example if there is -40.39 in one cell and positive 40.39 in another that it could highlight both those cells. I was thinking to do it in conditional formatting however I can not get it to work. It does not have to be fancy I just need to highlight them because there will not be a lot that do actually match.
Convert Positive # To Negative
Is there a simple way to convert a positive number to a negative number ?
Additionally, would the same procedure work for time?
So if I had a column listing hours that looks like this:
is there a way to convert this to negative hours? Understandably, there are no such thing as negative hours, but I am trying to illustrate a situation where an internal procedure was completed x amount of hours before the specified start time.
Ensure A Negative Or Positive Value
My form has a combobox with three options "Withdrawal" "Deposit" "Fee". I want to make sure that whatever number a user puts into a textbox, if they select "Withdrawal" or "Fee" that number will be converted to a negative number, and if they select "Deposit" it will be positive. I have written the following code and am just wondering if there is some super slick way of doing it other than an if statement.
Add Positive Or Negative From Division
I have a forecast for a week, all days I type in, the real order, in the end of the week I got a difference between the forecast and the real orders. the difference can be positive or negative, in any case I want that difference to be added on the next cell on next week, plus the difference between the forecast and the real order from the day before, and so on.
I'm using this formula "E4*($L$3+1+IF(K4,ABS(K3/K4-1),0))" but if the real order is less than the forecast the formula add the difference increasing in a positive way, when what I want is decrease the value if the difference shows a negative tendency.
hope this make sense.
I attached a file with what I intend to do.
Pair Up Positive And Negative Numbers

I can't figure out how to mark a "x" for the paired up figures in column A as shown in the above spreadsheet using a formula(e) and/or VBA. At the moment I'm doing this manually. Imagine doing this for thousands of line... once a week
Convert Positive Numbers To Negative
I have created a Pivot table from a source data file that includes a document status column ('Type I Or C') (I for Invoice & C for Credit) and an Invoice / Credit value column (Invoiced Price). However the values for both invoices and credits are positive so when summed distort the total values.
I am attempting to create an additional column within the Pivot table to convert the credit note values to negative by inserting a calculated field under the formula tab, i.e.
=IF('Type I Or C'="C",-'Invoiced Price','Invoiced Price')
The above formula works fine in a standard worksheet but it is not reckonsing the "C" within the pivot table. If I manually change the value to numeric (i.e. 1 for Invoices and 2 for credits) it works fine, i.e =IF('Type I Or C'="2",-'Invoiced Price','Invoiced Price')
so it appears to be an alpha issue?
Making Negative Numbers To Become Zero
I have been working on an excel sheet:
I am working with stock options. Therefore I must subtract the current stock price Cell C2, which has a value of 23 with the Options price which is D9, has a value of 34.79 then muliply it with the shares which is cell F9 which is 4000. So the formula that i have is (C2-D9)*F9 that gives me the sum which resides in cell I9(total outstanding profit).......This turns out to be a negative number. I want to make it so that if the sum of that formula produces a negative number, i want that negative number to just become a "0". Ive tried the IF function but could not produce any results.
Fornula For Displaying Positive Or Negative Variance
I need a formula that will display a 'yes' or 'no' if the following condition is met:
If the value of cell (L17) is greater than 10% positive variance, then 'YES' else 'NO'.
Currently the value of L17 is 14%, therefore should be a 'YES', however how can I get the following to work:
I apologise as I know there are too many arguements here but is there a way around this?
