# Excel 2010 :: Return Positive Or Negative Value Farthest From Zero Based On Criteria From Another Range

I am creating a template in Excel 2010 and am having some issues due to a combination of positive and negative values. Specifically, I have a named range of values that can have either a positive or negative deviation from zero. I need to return the value that has the greatest deviation from zero (either + or -) based on criteria in another named range I have used the following array formula with success for the "Y" range:

{=IF(PRB=M1,INDEX(Y,MATCH(MAX(ABS(Y)),ABS(Y),0)),MAX(Y))}

However, if there are not any negative values, as in the "Z" range, it only returns MAX(Z) for the entire range, when I would like ti to return "0.00134" (the largest deviation from zero based on the PRB range criterai. Would this be better accomplished using VBA?

Please find the attached MS Excel 2010 file <average set.xlsx>.

There is set of positive set & negative set of values available in the Column A. The values are plotted against Column A in Column B. Light green are positive sets and light yellow are negative sets.

Now I want to calculate the average for the positive set & negative set of values as shown in light majenta in the cells F4:F9. Also all majenta cells to be plotted by formula.

The Column H and Column I also same as like above , but here negative set of numbers starts first.

EXCEL 2010. I have a column of negative and positive times (eg. -00:52, -03:07, 06:02) in custom hh:mm format, and would like a new column rounding these times to the nearest negative or positive hour (with just the whole hours displayed), so I need a formula that would give me (for this example) -1, -3, 6, etc.

I want to compare 2 columns based on their positive and negative values..

For example,

A B C

ID1 91 -7

ID2 -7 74

ID3 -4 -5

ID4 90 4

ID5 -55 34

ID6 33 3

I want to know 1) which id's have both negative values in both columns B & C, 2) which id's have both positive values in both columns B & C, and which id's have opposite signs in both columns B & C.

I want to have a sum of each one of that..

I want to be able to highlight data in column B where amount is identical (ignore negative sign) only where data in column A is identical.

In this particular case it should highlight 500,-500 where data in column A = ABC & also 100,-100 where data in column A =CAC.

I have a range of cells each containing a name. Based on a number that has to be entered manually I want excel to return the names concatenated in one cell. So for example:

Number of variable entered: 5

q9001

q9002

q9003

q9004

q9005

q9006

etc.

Should give me: "q9001 q9002 q9003 q9004 q9005"

I have been trying to work with formulas using IF and CONCAT functions. But so far I haven't figured out how to have excel return me the correct amount of variables for each separate number that can be entered seeing the number of variables entered can vary from 1 up to 50.

I am using the following code to update an invoice summary sheet from an invoice sheet but when a Credit Note is issued I would like the Nett� value copied across to be a negative figure. When a credit note is issued the value of Service Invoice Cell L2 = 2 and an invoice L2 =1.

I have excel sheet with colored cells.

Positive cash flow cells all have green background,

Negative cash flow cells, all have red background.

I calculate all the "sub- total" columns into one "total sum" cell. Based on this "total sum" I want the cell background to be red if the total sum is negative, or green if total sum is positive. How do I make the cell change to the proper background color based on whether it's a negative or postive total sum?

In Cell (W6) I have a value for example of 100,000 In Cell (AE6) will have a value of for example -100,000. In Cell (AF) I want to put a formula that says "if the number in (W6) is a positive number and the number in (AE6) is a negative number the return a value of "1". and vice versa if the number in cell (W6) is a negative number (-100,000) and number in Cell (AE6) is s positive (25,000) then also return a value of "1".

I have a rolling 12 month (each day in column) tab in Excel 2010 that references variances by ID number in column A, and the column headers are each day for 366 days (2011). I would like to create a tab that shows the past 10 day's variances by ID number. I haven't been able to write a formula that will look at the date headers and the row ID number to return the figure for that day. Here is a sample of the 12 month rolling and the 10 days at a glance that I want to populate.

I am working in excel 2010. I have a tracking document that lists free tickets and their expiry dates. In the adjacent columns we track redemption details of these free tickets. What I want to do is return the oldest expiration date from A only if the ticket has not been used (i.e. B is empty). This will allow me to see the date the upcoming tickets about to expire so we can make sure they are used.

I am using Excel 2010 on Windows 7. Here is a link to the worksheet I have a question about : Example.xlsx

The only two relevant sheets here are "TestScores" and "Area 1." What I am trying to do is copy names over from the TestScores sheet to the Area 1 sheet based their test scores. It is important to know that a passing score is anything 85 or above. If you don't pass Phase 1, you move onto Phase 2, and if you don't pass that you move onto Phase 3.

Let me first explain how the TestScores sheet works. Here is a screenshot of the sheet:

I copied in column C, the names, from a roster sheet. Columns A, B, and D all VLOOKUP information from the roster as well. You can ignore columns E & F. Column G is just a test name that is manually inserted. They are all in the same order since this is an example worksheet I am doing the program on before I input the real data. Column H is also manually inserted, with data validation to only allow values 0-100 and a few different relevant terms (MS, EXT ABS, N/E). These next two rows are the formulas in columns I and J, starting in row 3.

What these formulas do is the following: If N/E, MS, or EXT ABS is in column H, it copies those over to the next two columns. If someone scores 84 or below, it says "Need" in the next column. If they score 85 or above, it says "N/A (PASS) in the next column(s). The user is meant to write over these to insert the phase 2 and 3 scores.

Here is the "Area 1" spreadsheet I am working on that has the problem.

First off, I created these formulas by comparing them to another post and replacing my ranges and criteria. In column A, it returns all the names of Team Members who passed in Phase 1 (have a score 85+ in "TestScores" column H). The array formula is below and it works great.

In column E I have a similar formula, except it returns the names of those Team Members who have "Need" in column I of "TestScores." This formula also works great. The formula in column D is just a VLOOKUP based on column E and works well, too.

Here is where my problem is. In column F, I want to return all the names of people who passed Phase 2, which means they have a score of 85 or above in column I of the "TestScores" sheet. However, not only is it not returning the right names, I can't even figure out what criteria the names is returns has. The current list, in (mostly, oops) red, is incorrect. The formula, below, is almost the same as the formulas above, with only 1 difference in each case.

=IFERROR(INDEX(TestScores!$C$3:$C$1500,SMALL(IF(TestScores!$I$3:$I$1500>=85,ROW(TestScores!$C$3:$C$1500)-ROW(TestScores!$C$3)+1),ROWS(F$6:F7))),"")

It refers to column I, instead of H, compared to the formula in column A. Its criteria is >=85 instead of ="Need", in comparison to the formula in column E. Nonetheless, it still isn't returning the right names! The other weird thing, is if I replace the ">=85" with "=90" it will return the names of team members who scored 90.

I've got numerical data in columns A through AF, starting in row 4. I need a formula, starting in AG4 that I can drag down. I need the formula to look back across the row until it gets to the last posistive number, then return the column header of that column (the column headers are in row 3)

so for example

Header row

Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug

Data

0 3 0 0 8 0 0 0

the formula would return May in this example as 8 is the las positive value and the column header for that column is 8. There are no blank cells in the data.

I am trying to write a macro in VBA excel 2010 that compares 2 sheets.

The macro should be something along the lines of if column 7 on sheet 1 = column 1 on sheet 2

AND

on that same row if column 6 on sheet 1 = column 3 on sheet 2

I have a sheet (see Sheet 1) from a report we run which lists the following information: Personnel Number, Amount, Wage Type. This is generated for 1000's of employees, with each personnel number being repeated several times in column A.

I am trying to pull specific data to another sheet (see Sheet 2), which would ideally generate the sum of "Amount' for a specific wage type for each personnel number. The issue is is that there may be dplicates of the wage type for each ID number (which is also repeated).

For example, the total salary amount on sheet 2 for ID#12345678 would be 0, while for #9876543 it would be 1250. Is there a formula I could use on sheet 2 column B that would generate this?

I have a problem with adding time values. The idea of my spreadsheet is to count time worked, and then calculate any variance from the normal shift length (i.e. 7h 30m). My formulas work fine until I work less than 7h 30m in a shift.

Example:

A1=start time

A2=end time

A3=IF(A2="","",MOD(A2-A1,1))

A4=IF(A3="","",(A3-(TIME(7,30,0))))

When the duration is over 7h 30m, A4 correctly returns the value of extra minutes. But when the duration is under 7h 30m the return is #####.

PS A1:A2 are formatted in a custom format hh:mm and A3:A4 are formatted as h:mm, and I'm using Win7 & MS Office 2010.

I have a spreadsheet of invoices and credits memos (500+ rows). Is there a way to match the positive and negatives that match? For example if there is -40.39 in one cell and positive 40.39 in another that it could highlight both those cells. I was thinking to do it in conditional formatting however I can not get it to work. It does not have to be fancy I just need to highlight them because there will not be a lot that do actually match.

Is there a simple way to convert a positive number to a negative number ?

Additionally, would the same procedure work for time?

So if I had a column listing hours that looks like this:

is there a way to convert this to negative hours? Understandably, there are no such thing as negative hours, but I am trying to illustrate a situation where an internal procedure was completed x amount of hours before the specified start time.

My form has a combobox with three options "Withdrawal" "Deposit" "Fee". I want to make sure that whatever number a user puts into a textbox, if they select "Withdrawal" or "Fee" that number will be converted to a negative number, and if they select "Deposit" it will be positive. I have written the following code and am just wondering if there is some super slick way of doing it other than an if statement.
