Pivot Table Calculated Item Removal

May 24, 2007

I have cut down my problem to its simplest form - in the real world my spreadsheet is significantly more complex but the attached spreadsheet demonstrates it nicely!

The data is straightforward. PT1 shows the data without a calculated item whilst PT2 is the same PT but with the addition of a calculated item for GP (i.e Sales - COS). Unfortunately adding this has resulting in the PT growing and adding "ilogical" combinations of data that didn't exist in the source data.

In my current project I have "cheated" by using a helper column and filtering on this using the Worksheet_PivotTableUpdate event to hide the unwanted rows but surely there must be a way of removing them "properly".

Another problem, and I guess this is just the way it is, is that my PT takes ages to calculate presumably becuase it is calculating this formula for every combination of values?

Set newMenu = myMenuBar.Controls.Add(Type:=msoControlPopup, temporary:=True)
newMenu.Caption = "Blotter"

2007 Ribbon Verdict

May 2, 2008

In a program that I'm intimately familiar with (Excel) I seem to find it annoying. ...or at least in my limited usage thus far it's been that way. Takes up a lot of screen real estate and seems to be a bit of a cluttered jumbled mess of text and graphics.

For programs I use less frequently (Publisher) it seems to be helpful. I can sorta right-click my way through lots of things and get stuff done. That's kinda nice.

For a program I use moderately (Word) it's sort of a toss-up. I can't find stuff easily, but once I figure it out, it seems like it's a more efficient design.

Add-ins Tab/Ribbon Missing 2007

May 6, 2008

I imported an Excel spreadsheet from a computer running an older version of Excel to my computer with Excel 2007. I opened up the specially designed add-ins tab and started a new worksheet which I then saved. When the programme was closed and re-opened, the add-ins tab was missing so I could not continue working on my new file.

Is this a compatibility issue between the versions of Excel (yet everything worked fine when freshly opened)? Following the help instructions I could not recover the bespoke add-in tab.

how I get this back each time I open the file? It is important I get the bespoke add-ins as they are designed to input runners taking part in a race and working out the results afterwards in various categories.

Macro To Save Shared Addin To Personal Addin Folder

Dec 30, 2008

I have an addin in a shared folder which was created by someone else. (it is a user form). I need to create a macro which will go to its existing folder and then save it in the users personal addin folder also picking up their user id. There will be about 100 users so easier this way than going round doing it for them.

So I suppose the query is three fold.

1, pick up the addin and save it in a personal addin folder.
2, Find the username as part of the path file. For instance my personal would be:

"C:Documents and SettingsO033116Application DataMicrosoftAddIns"

The "O033116" is where I will need a search completed to obtain the user id.

The addin is called ServiceCredt.xla

3, Activate the installed addin.

The reason I want it this way is so the user is unable to access any of the code and we are in control.

Disabling Windows (Copy Addin To Addin Folder) Dialog

May 23, 2012

I have an Excel Addin that I deploy as a read-only addin on a server share. I instruct my co-workers to add the Add-In as they would any other Add-In, but I tell the to answer NO to the Windows question "Copy 'AddinName' to the Addins folder for John Doe?".

That way, everyone will be working with the server version of the addin, and any time I want to roll out an updated version I just place a new addin file on the server. The next time the users restart Excel, the new version is loaded.

Except users never follow directions and some of them click the default 'Yes' when asked and get a local copy of the addin and never receive updated versions of the addin.

How do I disable the "Copy Addin" question completely? I don't want to depend on the user. I know this is possible because I have this 3rd party addin that we use that is installed from c:Program Files and it just stays there and you're never asked to copy the addin when you install it in Excel.

Automatically Minimize The 2007 Ribbon On Opening A Particular Workbook

Feb 22, 2009

I would like to be able to automatically minimize the Excel 2007 ribbon on opening a particular workbook. My preference is to be able to apply that minimization to certain worksheets only, but if that's not possible then minimizing the ribbons on all sheets in the workbook will be ok.

Will I also need a BeforeClose code as well to reinstate the ribbon so that it is visible when opening subsequent workbooks?

Excel 2007 :: Make Button In Ribbon Menus To Run Macro?

Aug 9, 2013

I've been trying to research how to do this for a while now and still can't figure it out. My impression is that this is fairly straightforward in Excel 2010 since the menus and ribbons are easily customizable but not so in Excel 2007.

So far I can get macro shown as a button in the Quick Access Toolbar. But the issue is that I can't organize them or customize the icons.

Is there an accepted practice for this?

Excel 2007 :: Custom Controls Not Showing In Add-ins Ribbon Tab And XML Error

Jul 18, 2013

We are using Windows7 with Excel 2007. We have old code from excel 2003 and earlier that was adding a msoControlPopup with other sub-controls using the code below:

Code:
Set HelpMenu = CommandBars(1).FindControl(Id:=30010)
If HelpMenu Is Nothing Then
' Add the menu to the end

[Code].....

I tried going to Excel Options>Customize>Reset to reset any customizations to the quick access toolbar as this was recommended by something else I found online. This did not fix the problem.

I can find the control in the Immediate window but it just isn't showing in the add-ins tab. if I can find and repair that XML file perhaps?

Excel 2007 :: Insert Built In Item On Custom Tab?

Dim cb As CommandBar

CommandBars("Built-in Menus").Controls("&File").Copy cb
Application.CommandBars("xl2003 Menu").Visible = True

Feb 16, 2013

'enables user to click [U]highlight and select[/U] an item in ListBox1 and ListBox2 item (same row in index) is also [U]highlighted[/U] (highlighted only not selected)
Private Sub ListBox1_Click()
ListBox2.ListIndex = ListBox1.ListIndex

Question: Is it also possible to enable a user to click to select an item in ListBox1 and ListBox2 item is also selected simultaneously (same row in index). Is there excel vb code to do this?

I think the code may be along the lines of the ListBox SelectedIndex property. What would be the Excel VB code equivilant for the ListBox SelectedIndex property, if so?

Flag Item When Doesn't Match Item Above

May 20, 2014

numberdesc
1_______yellow

1_______blue
2_______purple
2_______purple
3_______green
3_______orange
4_______black

I need some way that can identify when the item in the description column doesnt match the first item of the same number- for example, here the 1-blue and 3-orange would be flagged because they should match the 1-yellow and 3-green.

I need to do this on a much larger scale (approximately 20,000 data points), so I wanted to create a formula or macro that could do this for me.. I thought making a reference page with would work but I keep getting an error.. I haven't done VBA in a while, so I may have syntax errors.

If Range("A2:A9").Sheets("Sheet1") = Range("A2:A6").Sheets("Ref") And Range("B2:B9").Sheets("Sheet1") = Range("B2:B6").Sheets("Ref") Then
Range("C2:C9").Sheets("Sheet1") = "x"

Class As An AddIn

Jul 28, 2009

I have written a class that can be used as a replacement for Application.FileSearch in Excel 2007, that will take the same parameters etc. with no, or minimal code adjustments.

How do I now alter this so that it can be used as an AddIn by others?

I think that I have to remove all the sheets apart from 1 from the document, and save it as an .xla, but I am struggling with making this an addin, and then being able to use the addin from other code.

Does anyone have some instructions or a link to a website that could direct me? I have done a google search, but search for Excel, VBA, and classes (as well as AddIns), just gives lots of links to classes (as in teaching).

Addin Worksheet Function In VBA

Mar 20, 2008

I have found an addin (http://www.quantdec.com/Excel/smoothing.htm) that adds a worksheet function smoothing data. It operates with 2 arguments:
- a range for the input data to smooth
- a parameter detailing how to do the smoothing.

It outputs a matrix of smoothed results, and therefore requires the Ctrl-Shift-Enter on a spreadsheet. Until there no problem, the function works properly. However I need to repeat the process about 100 times. Therefore I extended my ranges to duplicate the calculations, and that also worked fine. But because I don't need the intermediate data (100 columns by 1000+ rows) and I don't like to wait 2 minutes for the calculations to finish each time I open the saved file again, I thought I could just use VBA and only output the final results.

This is how the working syntax is in a cell:
=SMOOTH(B3:B1032, "5RSSH,5RSSH,>,5RSSH")

And there the nightmare starts :
- I cannot apply it even once: I get a type mismatch whatever I do to calculate the range and put it as an argument of the function. I used a string to store the range name and use it as is (B3:B1032 or even "B3:B1032") or with the Range function Range("B3:B1032"). I even tried to put manually "B3:B1032" with the same result. First major issue

- Because the worksheet function requires a range, I cannot use an array, or at least I tried without success. Therefore I need to output the result on the worksheet each time it is processed, and reread it through the formula, for n times the loop is running for... Kind of inconvenient... So I tried to modify the original smooth() function to create a new one that would accept an array as argument instead of range, but with the same consequence: Type mismatch when I feed the new function with an array (which I checked contains the data to process).

I have tried an example I found somewhere using a built-in Excel Worksheet function MMult and it worked with ranges:

Sub SomeSub()

Dim xArray As Variant, yArray As Variant, zArray As Variant
Dim Fn As Object
Set Fn = Application.WorksheetFunction

xArray = Range("A1:B2").Value
yArray = Range("D1:E2").Value
zArray = Fn.MMult(xArray, yArray)

ActiveCell.Resize(2, 2).Value = zArray

End Sub
