Adapting Mouse Move Macro
Feb 14, 2008
Is it possible to display a name on a chart that is not the X or Y value?
I've been sent this macro which displays the school name on a chart when the mouse is on the data point - its all well and good but on the graph I am working on, the X and Y value are both values and I want the school name to come up as well.
Private Sub Chart_MouseMove(ByVal Button As Long, ByVal Shift As Long, ByVal x As Long, ByVal y As Long)
'macro that gets chart to show user details of a point on the chart when the mouse is moved over it
Dim ElementID As Long, Arg1 As Long, Arg2 As Long
Dim myX, myY As Variant
With ActiveChart
.GetChartElement x, y, ElementID, Arg1, Arg2
If ElementID = xlSeries Then 'checks to see which part of the chart the mouse is over

I've recorded this Macro to sort the cells in a column alphabetically if any cells have content.
I would like to use the Macro on the whole workbook however the AB column range varies between the worksheets.
How should I adapt this Macro to sort simply to the END of AB column??

I have been using a macro in Word created from pieces all over the internet (credit to a user named matt198992 for recursion script). The code prompts a user for folder, then runs a macro called Publish as PDF to all word files in the folders/subfolders.
I want to adapt the code in Excel, but I am having trouble. Error on the line "Workbooks.Open Filename:="Path & DirN".

Although I have seen lots of formulae to total a dynamic column, I found a brilliant formula on the Internet, as follows
HTML Code:
=SUM(OFFSET(INDIRECT("R1C",),,,ROW() -1))
The problem is I cannot work out how to adapt it to total across rows (which will expand with new columns).

The solution to a challenge here does almost exactly what I need except it doesn't manage partial matches.
Function MatchColors(strValue As String, rngList As Range) As String
Dim regEx, Matches, i, strResult, bFlag
'Create and set the parameters for the regular expressions object
Set regEx = CreateObject("vbscript.regexp")
regEx.Global = True
regEx.IgnoreCase = True

is there a way to launch a macro when your mouse is over a specific cell or a specific range of cells ? The idea behind is to update a chart based on the cell value, in case a name, with its associated values

I'm in the process of combining a lot of worksheets into one and found the code on the following site:
[url]
which almost does what I need. I understand how it works (i think!) but as a vba novice I can't work out how to adapt the code to copy more than one range from the source workbooks.
What I want to be able to do is copy say the following cells from each workbook:
A1
D1
d4:D7
I think what I need to do is call the getdata macro multiple times with different ranges, but I can't quite work out how to do that without simply creating multiple copies of the master file.

my right mouse-clicker doesn't work in excel anymore. something with macros happened I guess.
has anybody an idea to activate it again?? it's just in the workfield, to change worksheets-colours and stuff at the worksheet-registry it works as usual.
it's very nasty to work in cells without mouse..

i have a Macro Button which overlaps the cell G2 (a merged cell)...
is it possible that "when Press Enter Key on cell G2 then Launh a Macro.
or
when press space bar on cell G2 then Launch macro"... Macro is same as the Macro Button that overlaps G2...
this would prove to be a faster way than using a mouse to click on a macro button.

I'm trying to do a few things actually. I am somewhat a newb at programming, although I do understand how C++ and the coding works within Excel. To me, it's like the English language...knowing all of the vocabulary and formatting it right is important. If I don't know the vocabulary, I don't know what options I have.
This tool is being used in the call center I work in. It is to help eliminate repititious information used to notate accounts. I have attached a picture of what the tool looks like so you can have a better idea of what I'm working with. Here are a list of things I'm trying to do which I have searched and not found answers to:
1. I am trying to use a middle mouse scroll to scroll through validation list. This list information is located on a different locked tab. Basically, I have a few rows where a drop down selection can be made and it would be easier to scroll rather than manually moving the slider within the validation list.
2. As you can see, this "tool" an employee and I have created has many buttons. What I would like to do is to be able to click a button on the right and have it "stack" text within a single cell. In other words, if I click the button once, the text may be entered into the "actions taken" cell. If I click another button, I can have the option (or maybe a little "+" next to the button) to add this button's information to the end of the information already entered within the "actions taken" box. I've tried recording and using the keyboard and selecting "end" and then having the text added, but it didn't work. I've seen "loop" VBA code, but I don't want something to repeat, I want it to stack in the cell when clicked manually.
I'm sure there is a way to make the tool much better using VBA code and not use Excel, but I don't have an extensive knowledge of Excel to do something like that. I'm a very fast learner and understand how the coding works, so if you have an idea which may help, and you understand what I'm trying to do here, please provide your .02.
Basically, it's used so the Customer's name and phone number are entered manually, and then just about everything else is automated by the use of the buttons on the right. If I could get the 2 above options to work, it'd be perfect. I just figured out I could eliminate screen flicker and hide the macros working by using:

I have a macro which refreshes a query when the spreadsheet is opened. This works fine when online.
However, if the user is not online, the query is unable to refresh and the macro just hangs.
Is there a code which will enable me to say " if unable to refresh then move on to the next line"?
here's the code below.
Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Sheets("Houselist").Activate
Selection.QueryTable.Refresh BackgroundQuery:=False
Sheets("Front").Select
Range("A1").Select

I need a macro that I can assign to a button so that it will jump the screen to a particular cell. I want it to select the cell in a chosen column in the same row as the cursor already was. So, if I'm in M10 and I hit the AK button, it'll jump to AK10. If I'm in F54 and I hit the AK button it'll jump to AK54.

I am trying to create a macro to do the following (Microsoft Excel 2002 SP3):
1 - Select the text from the active/selected cell (i.e. B1)
2 - Cut the text from B1
3 - Move to the cell directly above the active/selected cell (i.e. A1)
4 - Add a space to the end of whatever text is in A1
5 - Paste the contents that were cut from B1 after the text and space in A1
6 - Delete the row where the text was cut from (i.e. entire row B)
I have never written code for macro's before, only done recording, but just can't seem to get this sequence to work .

I've been using the record macro function to accomplish a lot of my formatting tasks for my work reports.
I'm running into a snag that I'm not sure how to fix. Essentially I want the program to recognized the term "Grand Total" and the cell to the right of it. Then I want those two cells to be moved to the far left.
The # of rows will continuously change but he column shouldn't change.
I've tried naming the cell selection to have it moved but I can't seem to make it work.
When I use the record macro function and do a CTRL F search for "grand total", excel doesn't seem to recognize that I want that cell and the cell to the right to be the ones to move. Instead, whatever row of cells I create the macro with, it wants to duplicate the move with the same exact cell.

I have a workbook with two worksheets in it. The first "TO DO" and the second "Completed". In "TO DO", I have rows of tasks starting in row 4 (row 3 is my header), going to 200. What I'd like to have happen is when I put a "C" in column C, it moves the entire row to the "Completed" worksheet, greys it out and removes it from the "TO DO" worksheet. Then if I remove the "C" from the "Completed" worksheet, it moves it back to the bottom of the list. I already have a macro to resort it based on "priority" in column E.

find and move VBA macro - funky when WhatToFind in more than one row
Making a program that will find a value input by the user, and move the row of the cell that value is found in to the top of the list.
Works perfectly if there is only one row containing the search string. If more than one row contains the search string, it moves things to odd places.
here's the
Sub FindAndMoveToTop()
Dim FirstCell As Range
Dim NextCell As Range
Dim WhatToFind As Variant
'Window prompt allowing user to define WhatToFind
WhatToFind = Application.InputBox("What are you looking for?", "Search", , 100, 100, , , 2)
'If WhatToFind is a value and not blank, move on
If WhatToFind <> "" And Not WhatToFind = False Then
'Start with first worksheet
Worksheets("Sheet1").Activate
'Start at first cell
Range("A1").Select
'Find the first cell containing WhatToFind (specified by user)
Set FirstCell = Cells.Find(What:=WhatToFind, LookIn:=xlValues, LookAt:=xlPart, SearchOrder:=xlByRows, SearchDirection:=xlNext, MatchCase:=False)
'If FirstCell exists, move on
If Not FirstCell Is Nothing Then
'Ok, First Cell is set
FirstCell.Activate
'Keep going...

I regularly receive a file with a column called ‘Project Key’ which for some unknown reason can be located anywhere in the worksheet i.e. in any column from A: to BZ and beyond.
What I would like to have is a macro that finds the column ‘Project Key’ and moves it from it’s current position and moves it directly after a column call ‘XXX’ and delete the blank column where it orginally was. There would be no need to check if the columns exceed Excels maximum as my file never gets that big
