Broken Line Chart With Formula
Apr 5, 2007I'm trying to create some graphs with broken lines from lookup formulae, essentially what is explained at http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/broken-line.htm. My problem, however, is that my charts are rather more complicated than those outlined, having multiple series that move across the page and overlap a lot of the time. This prevents the suggestion there from being an elegant or even sufficient solution. Does anyone know of a better way of doing this that might work for my situation?

Sep 26, 2006how to create a column chart with a broken y-axis? And if this is possible, is it also possible to have 2 gaps in the y-axis. I have several countries in which i gathered information about their (expected) population sizes over time (2003 - 2011). For each country i want to make a chart in which their population size is shown over time. In order to compare these countries i want these charts all having the same y-axis scale (which expresses the population size). To be able to do this i want to put some gaps in the y-axis. I think i need 2 gaps because i can divide the countries in "low population" countries (2-3 million), "moderate population" countries (7-14 million) and "high population" countries (> 30 million). I attached a sample file to make things more clear! I hope somebody knows more how to do it!

Only the primary axis part of the code does its job. The secondary axis remains black. The code does complete without errors. Excel 2010.

Sheet Event Code: Find Last Row Broken?
Jul 24, 2009I'm making a macro to show or hide rows depending on whether or not a checkbox is checked. I'm using Wingdings font checkboxes, not actual form controls. The question: My macro can't find the last row of the used range on the sheet. This is in the sheet's code, set to fire when the selection changes.
Normally the line in blue works just fine, but it's not working here. In the attached workbook, the macro thinks the last used row is row 19, when it's actually row 21. What's going on?

Nov 27, 2011I am looking for a creative way to display a pie chart within a data point marker of a line chart.
My database has 3 value columns, Type1, Type2 and the Total (Type1 + Type2)
these are recorded per day (Date, in Column A)
I have a line chart that displays the total by date, but I want to find a way to display the percentage split of a particular day by type.
I was thinking to load the chart image into the Data point marker, but i don't think that is the best way as the data is updated daily and I would have to do it each day for a few line charts.
The other way I was thinking about was to have a generic Pie chat in the Line chart (Maybe in a corner) and the pie would update depending on way date series was selected or Mouseover'd)
the way that I am approaching it at the movement (Not the best way and by far not the coolest way. Is to have a list of all the dates in a column next to the Line chart and using some VBA, what ever date is selected in the column the pie chart displays the corresponding data. But eh challenge is that when there is alot of dates, I am going to be scrolling up and down.
I am using Excel 2010, but I cant not use the slicer's as the other users do not have 2010, they have 2007.

The part which I seem not to be able to complete is getting the line chart secondary axis to read from the primary y axis. I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

Overlay Line Chart On Top Of Stacked Column Chart?
Feb 15, 2012I am trying to overlay a line chart on top of a stacked column chart. The stacked column chart is a chart where the x axis is dates and the y axis is amount. The line chart is a projected amount that I will reach in few years; the x axis is the date while the y axis is an amount. I can get a chart that has a line and stacked columns, but ever time, the dates get messed up. The line has an extremely wide date range while the columns only have about a month of data.

Oct 16, 2007I import data into an excel spreadsheet where a unique job number may have multiple costs against it. These import as separate lines, repeating the job number.
The data imports on a sheet called 'DataImport'. From that sheet I transfer some of the imported fields onto another sheet.
What I need to be able to do is transfer the job number and a sum of the costs onto the other sheet.
The data is run regularly and I delete all the fields on the DataImport sheet in the macro each time the import is run.

What I'm trying to do here in this attached spreadsheet is at the end of inputting my line, I want to hit the tab (marked in red to make it clear where) button in the cell and have it automatically create another blank line but keep the formulas the same.
Basically I just want to avoid having to right click and insert line and then drag the formulas column by column down which is difficult.

Aug 12, 2014I merged about 15 adresslists from media contacts to one excel list. Each list had a name i.e. music, health, theater, etc. and the same logic in colums. I added a few columns and have 1 large list now.
As some journalists write about music & health & theater, architecture, etc. they are listed up to 10 times in the new list now. But the "genres" from the original list i.e. music, health, theater, etc. are in different columns. Some of the lines have empty fields (i.e. no address or mail)
All I want to do is have one line with all the information of all 10 lines in it, merged, dupes removed:
company - firstname - lastname - Adress - Mail, etc. : genre: music - health - theater:

Jun 12, 2005I like to create a float chart in excel. for this purpose I need to have a candle chart and add lines into the same chart. I can create a candle chart in excel. But as soon I add lines to it (additional data rows) the candles are distorted. The principle I'm interested in applies as well to: how do I add moving averages into an excel candlestick chart? As soon as I add the data for the MAs, the candles are distorted.
In short: how do I combine candles and lines in one chart?
