Build Windows 8 App Based On Excel Macro?
Feb 24, 2013
I write a excel file (with macros included) to tackle the datas regarding stock market.
The excel file encompasses some information about financial reports, and some functions (macro) like sorting and filtering.
I'm wondering if I can build it as an windows 8 App and put it on the App market.
Or, in other words, can I make a windows 8 App by the functions in Excel ?
Can I do that ?

I created a contact list that incorporates buttons at the top of the page to sort the data based on two customer type columns (thanks to Richard for help getting this far!).
I am attaching the file so that it will be easier to take a look. Four of the five macros are working fine but the second one ("All Clients") filters on the premise that "yes" is answered in either of the two customer type columns. In other words I am trying to show the records that have "yes" entered in either of these two columns, not necessarily both columns.

Working with Windows 7 and Office 2010
I've created a Excel workbook with VBA code to synchronize an Access database between a laptop and a server. One of the fields in the database is a shortcut to a jpg for each record. (The Access stuff is not too important here)
Now I'd like to add the ability synchronize the photos between the laptop and the server; so people who use the server can view the photos added by the laptop and vice versa.
Something like:
Code:
For each [JPG] in [LaptopFolder]
If not [JPG] exists in [ServerFolder] then
filecopy [LaptopFolder][JPG], [ServerFolder][JPG]
end if
next [JPG]
That code wouldn't work.

I have been given a macro recorded on a mac and it works fine with Mac Excel 2011. Unfortunately, I need to make it to work on a windows machine, but it comes up with an error message "macro unable to set width property of the window class. Run-time error 1004". When I press debug it takes me to the line .Width = 1456.
Below is the chunk of the code that becomes highlighted when pressing debug.
With ActiveWindow
.Width = 1456
.Height = 795

A typical Design Matrix is shown in the attached Workbook. There are two domains of Merged Cells that make up the Headings of the Matrix; FRs (Functional Requirements) and DPs (Design Parameters). Given a Hierarchical List of FRs specified by the User, the User would like Excel to bulild the Matrix Hierarchy of FRs automatically (going down the Worksheet). The DP Hierarchy is the same hierarchy, except transposed and reflected across the Worksheet. The attached Workbook has up to seven (7) levels, but the ability to go create up to 10 levels is desired.

Objective: to create an average variance among exact match RevCode
Example: all RevCodes with "666" should be used to make an average variance statistic
Situation: All RevCode's are not in similar group counts and this creates incorrect averages with a standard formula.
Set of Data
RevCode Observed Expected Variance RevCodeMean
666 200 220 -9.091%
666 205 220 -6.818%
666 207 220 -5.909%
777 500 355 40.845%
767 505 505 0.000%
668 100 105 -4.762%
668 105 105 0.000%
Formula that generates average variance between exact match revenue codes:
=(SUM(B2:B4)-SUM(C2:C4))/SUM(C2:C4)
The solutions can be in VBA or within the spreadsheet either way.

I am trying to build up an excel file for the Portuguese Soccer League.
It has 18 teams.
Problem 1:
I already figured out a way for the untie criteria to be used during the regular season, that is, for the first 33 days (rounds) - criteria d) to f).
d) Biggest difference between Goals For and Goals Against on all the games they have played;
e) Most wins on all the games they have played;
f) Most Goals For on all the games they have played.
For the last round (34th round), the criteria are more complex. They include the first three criteria that concern the games played between the tied teams.
a) The most points won by the tied teams on the games played between each other;
b) The biggest difference between Goals For and Goals Against between the clubs that are tied on the games they have played between each other;
c) The most goals scored on the away games on the games the tied teams played between each other;
To summarize:
- For the day-to-day standings the criteria that applies is d) to f).
- For the final standingsthe criteria that applies is a) to f).
Problem 2:
I created a sheet named "Evolution" from which I want to extract streaks information: for example current streak, longest win streak, longest draw streak, longest loss streak, longest non-winning streak, longest non-losing streak if possible for home, away and global games.

I have a very large workbook which includes 100 sheets (A) each containing fixed data relevant to one unit (n) (in this case n = a building; there are 100 buildings), a few sheets (B) containing parameters & settings, and then 1 main sheet (C) which does complex calculations pulling & combining data from sheets (A) based on the parameters in sheets (B). The workbook is so large, (100MB+) that it has to be set to calculate manually.
One of the settings in one of the sheets (B) dictates which building (n) is currently being looked at. As such, sheet (C) effectively builds a report for building (n) and so can report on just one building at a time, that building (n) being determined by a drop-down box listing all of the available buildings and that list is in turn defined in one of the sheets (B).
If I want to get a consolidated picture for all buildings I currently manually change the building choice (n) in the dropdown box, and then run a macro (m1) which updates the report to show what I want, selects the specific bits of the report I want and copies the selection, switches to a separate pre-formatted consolidation sheet I have created (D), jumps to the last row in that sheet, pastes values and then jumps back to Sheet (C).
I then need to manually change the selection (n) and then rerun macro (m1).
What I would like is another macro (m2), which automatically loops through the different values for (n) so that the whole process is automated. Then in a perfect world, perhaps even a separate macro (m3) which would give me a list of tickboxes so that I could select specific properties for which to run the report.

I have a schedule that covers 3 shifts for the entire month. I have another sheet that is used for crew sign in that I want to auto populate with all the people on that shift for that day.
I need to be able to use 2 different cells on the sign in sheet for reference for the formula (one for the day, and the other for the shift. ex. Day 3rd, shift D). I'm wanting to use an array formula to accomplish this. I've uploaded a stripped schedule as this is for the military and can't have any data on it that pertains to what or who it's for.
BTW our current method is to due it manually for every shift for every day that wastes about 12-16 man hours every week. I have excel 2010 at work currently. Access is out of the question and Macro's/vba may or may not work as security is always being increased on our systems so either a single or multiple formula is the route I'm looking to do that will work the the next few years I hope.

I am trying to build a macro using two files. The file 'master data.xls' has student details in a table containing 10 column heads as attributes (roll, name, address, email etc). The file 'Student Profile.xls' has been formatted to show individual student details in the form of a report. I want to prepare a macro such that each time I enter a new record in the "master data.xls", the data from new entry is printed in the format as given in "Student Profile.xls" as a pdf file which is saved with a file name defined by "(roll number) (First Name) (Last Name)" and the same is emailed to the student's email ID as specified in the "master data.xls" with the mail containing an address to the student name (ex: Dear Tom) and a standard text message in the body.

Code:
ActiveSheet.Range("$A$1:$AM$14502").AutoFilter Field:=1, Criteria1:= _ "30/06/2013"
When I run the above on my Worksheet to Filter for Rows not equal to 30/06/13 this works fine
I want amend the Criteria1 to a string that is derived off a value in my worksheet I have done this as below where Range("D8").Value is 30/06/13
It is deleting al my data and not keeping the rows with 30/06/13 in it.
Code:
Dim rng As Range
Dim LastQtrDate As Date
Dim LastQtrDateString As String
LastQtrDate = shtControlTab.Range("D8").Value
LastQtrDateString = "" & LastQtrDate

I'm trying to build a macro that iteratively runs a goal seek, then reduces a certain value (Let's call it "Bogey") in a different cell by a small amount (note that changing Bogey will affect the desired goal seek value), then runs the goal seek again, reduces Bogey by a small amount again, etc etc, and keeps running in this loop, with the restriction on this loop being that a different cell, affected by Bogey--let's call it "Constraint"--doesn't drop below a certain amount.

I'm currently running MS Excel 2003 on Windows XP SP 3. When I launch Excel from the start menu, it starts right up. When double-clicking an Excel file, it takes approximately 45 seconds to a minute to launch and open the file. This happens no matter what the file size.

My Excel gets stuck in a strange world sometimes where it seems like a pop-up blocker is turned on. By this I mean that i can't get question alerts to show in Excel. My only relief has been to reboot.
Here's what I mean - I generally see this two different times:
If I'm in a document that I've modified and click the "X" to exit the file - it never asks me to save, just closes without saving.
When I do a "find" on an item, I do get the first box where I can specify my search criteria. If there is a match, it will take me to the match if I do a find next. However, if I do a find all or there is not match, nothing else happens. I can see the cell addresses flickering in the name box.

I have a macro to collate data from multiple workbooks to a single sheet. The folder path to the source files can be chosen thorugh the macro. It runs perfectly in my system running on Windows XP. But it doesnt run on Wondows 7 system. Both are using MS Excel 2010. In Windows 7 system, while choosing the folder path where source files are located, it says "No items match your search" (screenshot attached). I would want the macro modified so that it runs on any platform. The macros that I'm using is given below:

Each time I click on an Excel file the worksheet will open up within an existing Excel worksheet that I have open. This is frustrating when you are working with two monitors or screens (laptop screen and additional monitor) and want to view each worksheet separately in separate screens. What I end up doing, which is not efficient, is I'll open the second worksheet which will open up in an existing worksheet that I have open and then I'll close it, and then launch a separate Excel worksheet and pull open the recent file and I'll have two open worksheets (not within same Excel worksheet I already have open). This allows me to grab and pull one worksheet in a separate screen and leave the other as I need both open on two monitors.
Question: is there a way to default Excel when opening or double clicking an Excel file to automatically open in a separate instance of Excel and not in an existing open worksheet?

After minimizing my Excel form, I'm trying to re access it from the windows task bar. If I click on the Excel tab it shows me the 2 excel files I have open. I would normally just click on one of those and that sheet would be brought up, but I can't get either of them up - as soon as I click on one or other of them the window just minimizes again.

With excel 2013 you're now able to open multiple windows or views of the same workbook. However when a workbook is saved with multiple windows open, the next user to open the spreadsheet will also open it with multiple windows. Which can be very annoying when most people work off of one window vs. multiple. Is there a way to disable saving the multiple windows or a macro to force open excel in 1 window?

What i have is like a seperate spreadsheet from every day and have to save each one down manually in the respective date. so for example column C has the date in already. Can you tell me how to save all the excel workbooks which are open (if i open them all) and then use the date in column C (which is in the format 20090217) and save it as a xls in the format 170209 and then close the workbooks?
sorry this is a huge question, just takes me so long to save them all.

I've been using the following bit of code to run a macro at the specified time:
Private Sub Workbook_SheetChange(ByVal Sh As Object, ByVal Target As Range)
Application .OnTime TimeValue("12:00:00"), "GetData"
End Sub
The GetData sub executes a shell script and then pulls data from the result. The problem is that the macro runs 140+ times, and so I get 140 windows popping up and the system practically stops. I can't figure out why this is happening, as there are no loops or any sort of repetition in the code. Any help is greatly appreciated as this problem occurs with more than just the one spreadsheet.
