Cant Get A Range(activecell.offset) Statement To Work
Apr 23, 2009
I have a combobox which is linked to a list of policies which has information to the right of them, upon changing the value in the combobox the subroutine below is activated.
It stores the value of the combobox in a string variable, goes to the list and searches for the cell containing the policy. Upon finding the cell it uses the range offset operation to select the two boxes to the right of the active cell. This is where I get my error 1004 - application or object defined error.
Code
Private Sub cmbSectionName_Change()
Dim mySearch As String
'Assigns combobox contents to mysearch
mySearch = cmbSectionName.Value
'select the range
Application.Goto Reference:="SectionNameList"

I want to use the following command but with more to it:
X=0
Y=0
Z=10
ActiveCell.Offset(rowOffset:=X, columnOffset:=Y).Activate
I want to use this type of command to highlight an area...not just move rows/columns. I want it to highlight from a point on the sheet marked by X and Y and then down Z rows.
So if I'm in cell A1 and want to highight from A1 down to A10, I'm not sure how to write that part of the code.

Does this code copy all cells from the active cell up to the last non-blank cell, or is it up to the first blank cell after the last non-blank cell?

when the user enters the letter Y in a cell within a set column a macro kicks in and enters a VLOOKUP formula in a cell 1 row above and 4 columns to the left by using ActiveCell.Offset (-1,-4).
This seems to work fine however when I try and get the coding to copy and paste special as values it just seems to ignore it?

I created macro that copies cells from one worksheet to another using the copy/paste function. Unfortunately it runs rather slow. Instead of copy and paste I want to use something like this:
ActiveCell.Offset(0,1)= Sheets("Raw Data").ActiveCell.Offset(2, 3)
Can this be done and what is the proper syntax?

when i enter data it dows not enter into the required cells. I have attached a SS that shows the initial laout and the new one and on sheet 2 the initial code. I thought it mught be a offset issue and have tried various permitations but being a total novice in VBA probably was trying to do something totally alien. On advice from moderators have added a new attachment, but had to zip it due to size

I have a custom email creation template I am merging with another version. The problem I am having is wrapping my head around not only selecting a range that is offset from ActiveCell (column 6-9) but seeing if there is an "x" in that range which is normally blank. My previous attempts identify the "x" but adds the text every time it is found. (Each column is a flag for an email bullet and they can have all four bullets in the email where I only want the text included ONCE if they have ANY bullets included). I use the range because I do not want the text included if none of the bullets are used.
Teh StandHTML then gets used in the body of the email like other HTML items I use
The email is generated using the ActiveCell.Offset to insert special text, emails and routing and has weathered alot of changes over time.
Dim Myrange As Range
Myrange = Range(ActiveCell.Offset(0, 6), ActiveCell.Offset(0, 9)).Select
If Myrange = "x" Then
StandHTML = StandHTML & "Important Text"
End If

I have created a very long switch statement, which is too long to be placed in one row in VBA. I have attempted to put a space and underscore at the end of one line and continue the statement on the row below by placing a comma at the start of the second line. VBA will accept my efforts, but when I run the statement in the immediate window, the following error appears.
"Invalid procedure call or argument"
I understand that there are certain rules where I can split a switch statement onto two lines, yet I do not know what they may be.

Is there a way to make the last two parts ("height" and "width") of the OFFSET statement formula static (meaning they alway refer to the same cell)? I am inputting a different number in the "colum" section of the formula and every time I do...it changes which cells the "height" and "width" refer to.

I have an Offset of a range I am testing the value of with an If statement.
For some reason, even though the value fed in is 1 and it should bypass the If statement, it doesn't. However, if I assign the offset value to a variable first, the If statement works...
This does not work...

I'm trying to write code so that it uses an offset value depending on criteria. In the attached book I have three coloumns, firstly the date, secondly some letters, an If statement in the third coloumn and another IF statements in the fourth coloumn. I would like a macro that calculates the number of DAYS ONLY, depending on the fourth coloumn. The way it should operate is it should is detect a 1 in the D coloumn and then calculate the difference in days from the adjacent date in coloumn A and subtract from the first time it appears in coloumn A.
For instance in the worksheet, the first 1 in coloumn D is in 'D5'. The date in 'A5' is 04/01/2005. The first time a '1' appears in coloumn C is C2 and its date in 'A2' is 01/01/2005, so 04/01/2005-01/01/2005 is 3 days. Now heres the twist, the next 1 in the D coloumn is in 'D8' and hence the date in A8 is 07/01/2005, now this time the '1' in coloumn C is in 'C7' and hence the new calculation is 07/01/2005-06/01/2005. So hence the 1 in coloumn C is always changing (ie new offset value).

I would like to select multiple active cells (in different columns) and have them copied and pasted in another sheet. The current macro I am using seem to work fine, except for the fact that it only selects cell A3 to the end of the list in that active column. I would like it to also select B3 - down, C3 - down, and E3 - down.
I "Bolded" where I think the problem lies.
Sub Sort()
Sheets("Univerity Rankings").Select
Range("a3:z10000").Select

I've been trying to get the sum of a range of cells based on their relation to the active cell. Here is the Pseudo
If the SUM of (the cell 2 rows up THROUGH the cell 2 rows up and 2 columns to the left) = 0 then .......
*****end pseudo
I think that activecell.offset is the best way to do it, but I can't figure out how to work that in a range....
Here is my code so far:
Worksheets("Generic SPC").Activate
Worksheets("Generic SPC").Range("c2").Select
'Do for all cells in the row
Do
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Select
If Application.WorksheetFunction.Sum(Range( _
ActiveCell.Offset(-2, 0), ActiveCell.Offset(-2, 2))) = 0 Then
ActiveCell.Value = 0
ElseIf Application.WorksheetFunction.Sum(Range _
("ActiveCell.Offset(-2, 1), ActiveCell.Offset(-2, 3)")) = 0 Then
ActiveCell.Value = ActiveCell.Offset(-2, 0).Value
Else: ActiveCell.Value = 0
End If
Loop Until IsEmpty(ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1)) = True
******End Code
Range doesn't like activecell.offset. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have been trying to do an if statement but need to choose between 10 options:
In Column AA I could have any one of the following 10 text entries - In column AB I need to return 8, 4, 2, 1 or 0.5 depending on which is in AA (this column AA cannot be sorted nor are people willing to cut back to 5 options )
"Very High" returns 8
"Very High (>50)" returns 8
"High" returns 4
"High (>20)"returns 4
"Medium" returns 2
"Medium (>10)" returns2
"Low" returns 1
"Low (>5)" returns 1
"Very Low" returns 0.5
"Very Low (<1)" returns 0.5
naturally the following IF statement won't work as I have exceeded the limits

I have an offset range ("TheCell") that does not seem be working how I would expect.
I don't know if its because the sheet I am working on was originaly German but I would be surprised if that was the case.
I Use sheet change to set the peramiters of the range and to test the value
Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByVal Target As Range)
Dim rowcell
Dim colcell
Dim typeit
colcell = ActiveCell.Column
rowcell = ActiveCell.Row
ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:="iname", RefersToR1C1:="=" & "Tabelle2!R1C" & colcell
ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:="Jname", RefersToR1C1:="=" & "Tabelle2!R" & rowcell & "C2"
typeit = Range("TheCell").Value
MsgBox typeit
End Sub
=OFFSET(Tabelle1!$B$4,MATCH(Jname,Tabelle1!$B$5:$B$57,0),MATCH(iname,Tabelle1!$B$4:$EX$4,0)-1)
but for some reason I am getting a runtime error 1004 worksheet failed.
I have used this technique before and its been fine so what mistake have I made :o)

I want to apply some logic to a range. However I want to offset the bottom of the range by 1 row.
Example: I have a range (B8:I19) already defined in my vba code. But I want to shade range (B8:I20).
MyRange = Range("B8:B19")
MyRange.Offset(1, 0).Interior.ColorIndex=3
This code also offsets the top of the range (row 9), which I don't want.
How can I only offest the bottom of the range?

I am currently writing some VBA code to loop through and copy data from Excel file in sub folders into a master sheet of data. There are some 1200 Excel files (these are pre-2007 files), each containing a maximum of 600 lines of data. So far the code works until it gets to around 65000 rows (the old Excel limit). I am using and writing the code in a Macro-Enabled Excel 2007 file.
I am using a Range.Offset call, which is where the error is occurring, to copy in a name basically. What happened right before this was a Range.Copy operation from the old Excel file to a Range.PastSpecial in the new one. This worked fine, and actually went a few hundred rows past the pre-Excel 2007 limit. But when the single cell operation Range.Offset().Value is called next, it crashes with a Application or User-Defined error. The code works some 100+ times through the loop with no problem, and the file that it was working on is no different then the other files.
