Is there a way to make the last two parts ("height" and "width") of the OFFSET statement formula static (meaning they alway refer to the same cell)? I am inputting a different number in the "colum" section of the formula and every time I do...it changes which cells the "height" and "width" refer to.

For some reason, even though the value fed in is 1 and it should bypass the If statement, it doesn't. However, if I assign the offset value to a variable first, the If statement works...

I'm trying to write code so that it uses an offset value depending on criteria. In the attached book I have three coloumns, firstly the date, secondly some letters, an If statement in the third coloumn and another IF statements in the fourth coloumn. I would like a macro that calculates the number of DAYS ONLY, depending on the fourth coloumn. The way it should operate is it should is detect a 1 in the D coloumn and then calculate the difference in days from the adjacent date in coloumn A and subtract from the first time it appears in coloumn A.
For instance in the worksheet, the first 1 in coloumn D is in 'D5'. The date in 'A5' is 04/01/2005. The first time a '1' appears in coloumn C is C2 and its date in 'A2' is 01/01/2005, so 04/01/2005-01/01/2005 is 3 days. Now heres the twist, the next 1 in the D coloumn is in 'D8' and hence the date in A8 is 07/01/2005, now this time the '1' in coloumn C is in 'C7' and hence the new calculation is 07/01/2005-06/01/2005. So hence the 1 in coloumn C is always changing (ie new offset value).
I have a combobox which is linked to a list of policies which has information to the right of them, upon changing the value in the combobox the subroutine below is activated.
It stores the value of the combobox in a string variable, goes to the list and searches for the cell containing the policy. Upon finding the cell it uses the range offset operation to select the two boxes to the right of the active cell. This is where I get my error 1004 - application or object defined error.

Problem is when I insert a new row in sheet 1 the formula in sheet 2 changes to "=SHEET1$A$28" and I want the formula in sheet 2 to stay the same that is, always =SHEET1!$A$27.

IF A1<>"" then L1 shows the date and time of the entry. If A1="" then L1 remains blank. I don't want the date to change once it has been entered.

I'm attaching an example of the file to show an idea of what i'd like to do, please check first. As you can see, i have a Due Date and Priority columns. The Due Date column has a formula, that when i choose the Priority level, it calculates the Due Date from the current date and auto populates in the cell. The problem is, when i open the file the next day, and insert another Priority level, it updates everything even the previous Due Date entry. This is the formula i have in place for the Due Date:

I have a problem using indirect in a counta function. Basically, I want to count the number of used cells in a range. However, there would be insertions to the rows (using the insert row) on top of the range.
my function is now =counta(indirect(" events database"!"A"&M22&":A"&M500)
However, this formula returns an error. What have I typed wrongly?
I have one worksheet which comes out of an online application (for the purposes of this example I will call it "Online Sheet"). The column headings in this sheets are always named the same but could theoretically appear in any column address. For example, the column header "Completed" could appear in column "X", or "AT", or "ZZ".
On a second sheet (called "Code Sheet") I have to unscramble all of this data into a standardize layout. Each row value has a unique ID which appears on both the "Code Sheet" and the "Online Sheet". However, in the "online sheet" the unique ID could also appear in any column. Like the "Completed" column this column also has a unique column heading ("Unique ID").
Using Match I can calculate the column number in which the "Completed" column appears in this instance of the online data. For example, "Completed" = Column "25". However, I now need to use some lookup function on this column based on the row in which my "Unique ID" appears of the "Online Sheet" (which could of course be in any column in the "Online Sheet").
For example, if "Completed" is in column "25" and the "Unique ID" which I am referencing on the "Code Sheet" appears on row 14 in the "Online Sheet", then the lookup formula must return the value of column 25 row 14 on my "Code Sheet".
Is there a way that formula links in spreadsheets can use environment variables to reference formulas in other spreadsheets/addins?
For example, I have a spreadsheet that imports templates which call functions in an addin. The spreadsheet, templates and the addin could be installed into either the 'Program Files' or the 'Program Files (x86)' folders.
I am experiencing issues with the formula references when moved between 32 and 64 bit computers since Excel seems to store the full path of the addin in the Excel formula (even though it hides it when the reference resolves its path) in my templates. I would like to update the references in my templates so that they use an environment variable (set by my software installer) to always know the correct path of the addin.

I making a template for multiple users to import data into for analysis. I want them to be able to delete and drag-and-drop data to get rid of any bogus values. However i need forumlas that reference those to NOT follow the values as there as moved. As a simple example say you have two columns, column A is a set of random numbers, column B is the number from coumn A times 2. If take the bottom half of column A and drag it up one cell, overwriting a cell, now the cell in column B next to the overwritten cell has a #REF err and ever cell below that now references a Cell in column A from the previous row. I want a formula that references a static address and will not follow the cell if it is moved.
If I use named ranges rather than specific cells references it works for the above example, however for my actual form it does not. Even though the ranges and formulas stay the same I start getting incorrect values. If there is no other way to this I will try to figure why the named ranges do not work.
I have attached a sample of the spreadsheet. The cell/cells in question are f32:f36 on the first tab.
Question #1 how this formula works or what it does.
Question #2 Is when I enter the required information in cells a32:e32 it enters an N/A in cell f32. When I than click on cell F32 and than click on the formula bar and hit enter the information populates.
I am trying to create a formula to determine if my students made a point in high standers, which means if they got a level 3 and about in 2009 verse the student's 2008. Now if they stayed on the same level did they make learning gains. So what I need to do is look at the grade level of the student (Colum C), then 2009 Math Developmental Score (Colum J), and Finally 2008 Math Developmental Score (Colum M). So if the student scored a level 2 in 2008 and a level 3 in 2009 he gets a point, but if he stayed on the same level. The formula needs to look see if he made learning gains. So if the student is in grade 4 and was a level 3 in 2008 and 2009 he would need to score 163 points higher in order to get a point. I have created a helper table with the information need to calculate the information. I have been working on this for about a week I can’t seem to get it right.

I have this formula (part of a block covering 4 columns) in cell D12.

Every month this bock of information has to be copied across 4 columns i.e.
D:G is copied to H:K then H:K to L:O and so on.
When I do this the calculation needs to change as follows -
Month 1 D11*AVERAGE(DATA_2006!$A$14:DATA_2006!B14)
Month 2 D11*AVERAGE(DATA_2006!$A$14:DATA_2006!C14)
Month 3 D11*AVERAGE(DATA_2006!$A$14:DATA_2006!D14)
Because I am copying across 4 columns this happens

I have named a range to find the last cell in a column . I then want to build a table which picks this cell and the cells to the right and above (its for a 6 month rolling table).

Currently have a formula to enter the last value in a row in cell B1. What i need is the formula below in B1 then a formula in A1 which will show the value before the last entry in row 1. Maybe an offset unless there is an easier way

I am using an offset match formula to look at a named range of data and create a validation list of property address's based on certain criteria in cell d1.
My question is it appears the information which is status information seems to have to be sorted, otherwise the list doesnt work properly.
is there another formula to accomplish this with out having to sort the criteria in cell d1 ??
This is the formula i am curently using, it works great if "ListStatus" is sorted and not if unsorted.

I was trying to create the sums in column C from "x" to "x". So I built the following array-formula in C2 and downwards:
{=SUM(OFFSET(A2,,,MAX((B$1:B1"")*ROW($1:1))-ROW()))}
It works fine, but unfortunately it also shows the "subtotals" in the rows without an "x". "No problem", I thought: this can be easily done with an IF-function surrounding the formula, like this:
{=IF(B2="","",SUM(OFFSET(A2,,,MAX((B$1:B1"")*ROW($1:1))-ROW())))}
But what happened? I got "#N/A!" in each "x"-row!!!
How can it be, that the IF-function affects the inner function???
Meanwhile I've found another formula to solve the original problem

I am using the OFFSET formula (=OFFSET($A$1,0,0,$B$1,1) and instructions (http://www.ozgrid.com/Excel/DynamicRanges.htm) I found on this site (which is great, by the way).
In the instructions on the site, it requires you to define a range for which the formula to apply. What I tried to do was skip naming the range, and simply using the OFFSET in various cells throughout the file. However, whenever I enter in a row [height] of greater than 1, the formula returns a #Value error. I want to use this offset on multiple data ranges, so naming all of them would be rather time consuming. Is there any way to skip this step?
I'm using a "Large" formula with a variable for the number of cells to sum and then later divide by. However, I want the Large formula to look at the X largest values from a column three to the right, then sum the values in the original column. This wouldn't necessarily be the X largest cells in that original column. I believe this would be some sort of offset, but I'm not very good with those.
