Cascading Data Validation

Feb 26, 2008

I am trying to use cascading Data validation, but I keep getting a ref error.

I have set up a Dynamic Named range called Claim_Type_1

This contains the following choices:
External_Meeting
Internal_Meeting
Attend_Training

I have then set up Dynamic Named ranges called "External_Meeting", "Internal_Meeting" and "Attend_Training"

On my sheet, I am using the following for the data validation:

Source formula "=INDIRECT(M7)" - M7 is the cell with the original validation

It then tells me "The source currently evaluates to an error"

Cascading Combobox - For Printing

Aug 10, 2006

I have a worksheet with 13 columns. ....which i have attached.

I am trying to use cascading combobxes for priting the certaion rows that match the criteria in the 2 comboboxes.

I have -

Customer - in column C
Category - in column G
Complaint Owner - in column J
Month - in column L

Above 4 options are shown in the drop down list in Combobox 1.

Once user selects any one option from combobox1, combobox2 will populate with the relevent list of Customers, Categories, Complaint owners and months.

Also, depending the selection in combobox1, I want excel to search particular columns for the value in combobox2. And then display all the rows that fit the criteria in print preview (showing all the columns A:L, fit in one page)....which then can be printed by user.

I managed to the get the first part right where combobox2 populates based on selection in combobx1. But I am struglling to get the second part....

I have used a code that I found in another forum and tried to change it to suit my purpose, but obviously i have messed up the code and there are a lot of errors now...

Cascading Combobox And Dynamic Ranges?

Aug 21, 2013

I want to create a cascading combo box from some values that I have, ill explain how I approached it.

Cascading combo box is a combobox which values are obtained depending on the answer of a previous combo box.

So I set up a little table like so:

Categories Car Train Bike
Car Mercades First Honda
Train Ford Western Ducati
Bike Skoda Red Suzuki

and the combo boxes would be set aside from that.I collected the data in Named Ranges (A Range for Categories, A Range for Car, A Range for Train...)

The first data validation box contains = Categories the second data validation box contains =INDIRECT($C$2) (Where C2 was the range of the first validation box)

Once this was working, I decided to change the formula for the named ranges to allow me to add more values.

The formula was: =$F3$F8

I changed it to: =OFFSET($F$3,0,0,COUNTA($F3:$F96),1)

I expected this to work however, it just doesnt.... when clicking on the drop down arrow for the validation box, nothing happens. No box or values or dropdown.

Cascading Combo Boxes - VBA Coding

Sep 8, 2009

I’ve created two combo boxes and what I seem to need are “cascading combo boxes”

I have named ranges on a worksheet called LookupLists
Column A has Areas
and Columns H to L has services within those areas.
Column headers, i.e. Row 1 of the columns, H to L are Serv1, Serv2 and so on.

Each area, in column A, has different services, in column H to L.

I have two combo boxes, what I’d like is depending on which Area is chosen in the first combo box, that the correct column is chosen which lists only those services available in that area; for example maybe Area A has services 2. Area B has services 4 …

… so in my “logical” mind if Combo box 1 I choose “Area B” then I want Combo box 2 to look at Column K and show the services from there..

Cascading Two Tier Dropdowns In Form Control

Jun 4, 2013

I am having some trouble with cascading two tier drop down. I cannot seem to find out how to do it. I am trying to create a two tier cascading drop down in form control. I want the first drop down to be Products we have and the second one to be customers. I also want to be able to create a bar chart from these drop downs where after we choose our customer by product, it shows the revenue we have recieved from the customer by months. Is there a way to do this? I figured out how to do this with just one combo box, but I am unable to do a cascading one.

2 Cascading Comboboxes, Works Only When On Sheet With The Data

Oct 23, 2009

I just started using vb two days ago so the problem is probably from the code. I created a userform with 2 comboboxes and 10 textboxes, when i choose an item from the first combobox it filters out the result from the second combobox.

And when i choose an item from the 2nd combobox it shows certain textboxes corresponding to that item. Everything works fine if i run the userform while on the sheet i pull the data off of (Devices sheet), but if i try it on another sheet then the comboboxes don't work anymore.

Another question i had is if there is simpler way to view the textboxes rather than the one i used in my code. And if there's a way to autoarrange the textboxes when i they are visible so that they all are in the same row.

Creating Cascading Data Validation Lists / Comboboxes Without Named Ranges?

Jul 28, 2014

Is there a way to add cascading lists (from data validation or form/activex controls) to my excel spreadsheet WITHOUT using named ranges? Maybe structured references?

I need to avoid the named ranges because it will cause my workbook to have duplicate named range titles which I cannot avoid.

As a general example my issue arises because I have something like this where the titles are the same but they map to slightly different data. These also have to be cascading because the titles align to another list which I do not show in the example. I also considered using pivot tables, but the issue there is that the data validation lists repeat in the same worksheet. So I would have 3 cascading lists in row1 dependent on each other, but the same 3 lists in row2 dependent on row2 but not the previous row.

Old Tabs Not Behaving Like New Tabs

Jun 25, 2008

I'm using Excel '03SP2 on Win 2000sp4. I believe I have a case where old tabs originally written in Excel ' 97 behave differently than new tabs in the same workbook, which is saved in 2003 format.

Specifically, the formula ="PLAN" & budyr-1 where budyr is a named range on a different tab containing 2008 . This formula yields PLAN 2007 on a new tab and #VALUE! on an old tab.

How do I get Excel to update the old tabs so that they behave as Excel 2003 tabs?

Yes/No Pop-up Window

Aug 28, 2006

I have a certain macro which copies data from one file to the other. There are several target files (refering to a given month each) and one source file. The user chooses a month from a drop down list in the source file which modifies a certain cell. The value of this cell decides on which of the 12 target files will be opened to paste the data to. The macro also copies the value of a cell which refers to the current date (=TODAY()) This number is then compared with a the range (value between two pints in time: start and end date of a given month). All I need is some sort of a pop-up window with a header i.e. WARNING. and the window text: You are about to send the information to a file which does not refere to the current month, are you sure you want to perform this action" and two buttons YES and NO in case the value of the current date does not match the range set up by the starting and ending of a given month in the target file. The button YES would then do waht ever the code that was placed before the pop-up window said, save the aplication and close it, and the NO button would simply close the aplicatiown without saving it. Something like that:

Sub Export()
'the whole code describing the action to be taken
If Range("A1").Value >= Range("A3").Value And Range("A1").Value <= Range("A2").Value Then
'here the A1 cell refers to the current date and cells A2 and A3 to the start and the end date of the month
End Sub

Opening New IE Tab Instead Of A New Window?

VB:
Dim PartNo As String 'Declaro la cadena de texto que determina la busqueda
Public Sub BuscarPLCCenter()
Dim IE As InternetExplorer

[Code]....

I would like that all of these procedures opened a new IE tab to do the search, cause actually it opens like 15 windows at a time and is not user friendly enough.

Invisible Window

Nov 23, 2009

There is a column with a formula and a list validation, and an adjacent hidden column with numbered ids. When moving into the list validation cell the Worksheet_Selection_Change event code saves information about the Target cell - value, address, formula. When a value has been obtained from the list the Worksheet_Change event code looks up a belonging id in a lookup table and put this in the hidden id cell, and puts the saved formula back into the list validation cell. This makes the sheet (or window) unmanagable.

When I move around the sheet I can see the cell name in the Name Box, but the sheet itself is not visible. The only way to display the sheet is to add a new window (Window - New Window), choose the first "frozen" window (Window - 1. window) and quit this window. Then the new window is ready for use, but of course with the same limitations as the newly quitted one. Ring a bell, someone?? The funny thing is that in this workbook I also use the same functionality in another sheet without any problems.

Set Window Size With VBA.

Feb 1, 2010

I'm looking for a way to use VBA to set the window size upon opening the workbook. When the document opens, there should be two windows, each taking up half the screen and each on a particular tab.

Currently, if I save the workbook with the window settings I want, when I open it, both windows are maximized. When I hit the restore button, they go back the settings with which they were saved, which is what I want it to look like as soon as it's opened. Also, a bonus would be for the code to determine the screen size, so it can fill the screen no matter what monitor/computer it's opened on.

Active Window

May 8, 2007

I've built a macro to run a loop that opens excel files, prints certain sheets and closes them. I have the macro working - to some degree. here is my code (this is excel):

Sub RMPProducer()

OldPath = "S:RMBS_Performance_Analytics Analysis1 Staging Folder For Monthly Model Templates2007200704VVDeals"
Dim t As Workbook
Dim s As String
Dim a As Window

With Application.FileSearch
.NewSearch
.LookIn = OldPath
.SearchSubFolders = False
.Filename = "*.xls"
.MatchTextExactly = True
If .Execute() > 0 Then
For i = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count
s = .FoundFiles(i)

I have 2 problems. First problem is that I am trying to add a function to make the window close once its finished printing. This actually works - but it limits my loop iterations from i = 1 to 2 (so it only runs 2 times and I'm not exactly sure why). If I don't include the statement - this can run for up to 7 - 8 times (these are very large files) then excel runs out of memory. Unfortunately, i can't set the loop to run from i = anything other than one.

So What I would prefer is to be able to make the "ActiveWindow.close" command work - because this way I can run the entire loop. But I'm not sure how to. I tried window referencing, I tried adding a new active Window so when the file opens, its opening in the active window already, but nothing works.

Preferably, I need to be able to reference both windows, as my next macro will involve referencing 2 windows (one static - always open) and the other the loop above.

Macro For Pop-up Window With Picture

Jul 19, 2007

A macro, which would allow me to click on a particular cell, which will have an ID number (1 through 34), each ID# is attributed to a particular employee. These ID# are located in my spreadsheet in columns B & G, and the ID #'s begin initially in B6 & G6 and continue downward to B34 & G34. These ID #'s are used in a vlookup type formula which covers 35 pages of this workbook. What I'd like to do is be able to click on any cell between B6& B34 (and/or the same in G6&G34), which has a particular ID # in it and have the photo of that particular employee designated with that ID# pop up in a window generated by the macro. I hope this makes sense! Any help would be greatly appreciated. My 1st sheet in my workbook is my "lookup" tab, which contains my ID# list and numbering sequence affiliated to each employee. So I'm not sure if I'd need to put the photograph of the employee in a column next to the employees name or have a folder designated with all my pictures in a certain directory, etc.
