I have a Excel Rota, which is storing data which is quite old, every time the spreadsheet is open you have to trawl down the page to findthe current date.
I would like a piece of code to move down to a cell with todays date when the spreadsheet opens.
This may have been answered on here but can not seem to find it. My situation is I have values in A1,A2 & A3 that are like counter reading so the value is always changing. What I am looking to do is change the cell color if one of the values is over 500 from the other two values. Say A1 is 3000, A2 is 3250 and A3 is 3500. I would like the cell for A3 to change color.
I have a need to open a file from my companies intranet. My current method was to open said file via the method that the recorder gave me. However, I would like ot be able to open a said file without having to start open another workbook.
This is the path: [url]
So the command is this: Workbooks.Open [url]
Links are not actual links
So what I need to know. Is how can I open this file without opening a workbook. I haven't been able to use the VB "Open Statement" to open a file and I don't believe that I've been successfull using the Filesystem object either.
I want to use a macro to open an existing file on my c drive where the reference to that file is contained in a cell.
E.g. In my sheet, the cell A1 contains the following text "C:Documents and SettingsTest". Therefore the file I want to open using a macro will be Test.xls.
However the file I wish to open (and therefore the reference text in cell A1) could change (and it could also change to be a word document) so it needs to be able to adapt when a new valid file (and document type) reference is entered into the cell.
Also, as an aside, when I want to change the file referred to in A1, the easiest way I've found is to find the file I want in windows explorer, go to properties and copy the file reference and then paste it into A1. However the reference (from the properties tab) seems to miss the ".xls" or ".doc" at the end (see above). Is this an issue? If yes, then I'm happy to manually type the .xls or .doc extension at the end.
how to design a piece of code that would allow me to check whether a workbook which is not currently opened and shall not be opened at all, contains a certain value. Here my developement which failed to prodeuce the desired result:
Sub test() Dim wBook As Workbook Set wBook = Workbooks(Filename:="D: arget.xls") If wBook. Sheets("AAA"). Range("A1").Value = 123 Then Range("C3").Value = "Good stuff" End If End Sub
Is there any way this can be done without opening the target file??
I have a workbook template that will have multiple tabs. I would like to have it that when you open this workbook the date populates in A1 for each tab and is static. At that point they can save with another name leaving the template intact so when you open it again (on another day) it will populate with the current date. Is this possible and if so how?
Is it possible to have excel 2007 open a workbook, activate the first sheet "output" and activate the first empty cell in column A - ready for user input? i.e.
I want my user to open workbook "EHB Stock" and automatically the first empty cell in column A of worksheet "output" is activated and ready for input.
On opening of an excel document is it possible to have a date in a cell that will continuously update. =now() enters the date required but if i was to go into the sheet days or whatever later is there a way that this will update automatically??
If i have a range say E12:O12 and want to find the last cell before blank, lets say it finds m12 as the cell with the value before blank. then with m12 it needs to determine weather row 11 in the same column has Text either "S" or "F" if "S" then m12 = t if "F" then m12 offset(1,-1) = t. And just to make things more difficult i need the range E12:O12 to step 2 as well until it gets to E208:O208 .Noting that row 11 never changes and will always have either an "S" Or an "F"
I would like to accomplish 2 things in my Excel 2010 spreadsheet by click a cell which already has a number and formatting in it.
1. How do I change the color of the cell, the color of the number in it, and the border around it. (Make it look like I just pressed a button by clicking it.)
2. At the same time have the text in different cell and the number in the selected cell appear in another different cell. (Text in a different cell = A , and the number in the selected cell = 23, the value in the resulting cell be "A 23") Everything I would like to happen at the same time by clicking the selected cell. I would also like this to be done several times by clicking different cells and not changing the previously selected cells.
I am working on a workbook with 200+ sheets and an index linking to each of the sheets. On the sheets there is a cell containing the results of calculations and I need the cell referencing the sheet in the index to change background colors depending if the calculations value is greater or less than 0. I currently have working code that also changes the tab color of each sheet depending on the value, but i am trying to add the index cell background change functionality into that. also, the index listings is subject to change. my working code is
VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) If Range("d34").Value < 0 Then Me.Tab.ColorIndex = 3 ElseIf Range("D34").Value > 0 Then Me.Tab.ColorIndex = 4 Else
[Code]...
and the code i am trying to get working is
VB:
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Dim rngX As Range Set myRange = Worksheets("Index").Range("A1:A500").Find(Range("C2").Text, lookat:=xlPart) ' the C2 is the reference the title that would be on the index If Range("d40").Value < 0 Then
[Code]....
I keep getting the runtime error '1004: application-defined error or object-defined error the thing is, i ran the cell background changing code in a normal macro before integrating it in my other worksheet code first and it worked fine. I have a little code experience, though not much in vba and I am unsure what the issue is. if there is another better way to accomplish what I'm tring to do, that would also be fine.
I'm trying to create a tag with a color border. What I desire is to fill the BLANK cells around the tag, A1:D1 + D1:D19 + A1:D19 + A1:19 in a certain color based on the text value of the cell B11. There are 5 different values, such that if the B11 read Red Sox - the boarder is going to be red, if it reads Houston Astros it will be dark blue, etc..
I have a similar problem with changing the color of the cell based on the month. So regardless of the year, 2014, 2015, 2016, etc... If I use MONTH() function I can just get numbers from 1-12. I want Cell C16-C18 to be certain color depending the date entered in cell C17 such that for each quarter, months 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 they are different color.
I have had no luck with conditional formatting (and I also believe that it is good up to 3 cases only). I am decent in logic/programming language but have little knowledge with macro notation and especially how to run them in excel 2013. I do know how to start it alt+F11 and that I need to make sure that code is written under the specific sheet where my tag is located.
I did a search on this site and found some code I was looking for (see link:
http://www.excelforum.com/excel-prog...e-in-cell.html - Leith Ross's response code).
The code works perfectly, however, if I save the workbook with a different spreadsheet on top than the spreadsheet referred to in this code, I get an error message: Method 'Range' of object '_Worksheet' failed.
I should state that I did change "Private Sub Workbook_Open()" to "Private Sub Auto_Open()".
I assume I need to modify the code but am unsure as to how.
How, via VBA, would I add a comment from a userform (text box name: txtReason) into a cell that may already have a comment in it? I would like to keep the comment that is in the cell and then have the program add a "/" and the next comment from txtReason..
What I need to do is have a cell that will be say yellow until there is information put into this cell. The information could be in the format of text or numbers. The information would not always be the same so it would need to be yellow when there is no information in the cell and another colour or white when there is information in the cell.
I need to change the color of a specific cell when conditions are met in a different cell and it seems like it may be beyond the scope of simply applying conditional formatting. What vba code would look like in proper syntax to make the following statement true. IF cell value Q4 is >=cell value S4 AND cell value R4 is <100 Then cell Q4 turns red and IF cell value Q4 is >= cell value S4 AND cell value R4 =100 then cell Q4 turns green. it may also be useful to know that the "cell values" in this example will be dates and not straight values. this may be possible to do using conditional formatting, but i cannot find a formula that works.
I want to colour in the relevant cells for each ref depending on the numbers in the stage column. So for the first line, the cells in columns 1,2,4&6 need to be shaded in. For the second line, the cells in columns 1,2,3,4,&5 need to be shaded in. I already have a lot of conditional formatting set on the sheet so need to do this with a macro.
I have tried to write something but am having issues with it finding the 1 and shading in the correct column but then jumping out of the loop and on to the next cell.
I have a spreadsheet with numerical data in B1:B11 and textual data in C1:C11. The numerical data is a couple of digits, nothing big, and the textual data is always two letters, in this case AB, AC or AD. I have the options for AB, AC or AD for each of the cells in C1:C11 in a data validation drop down list. What I'm trying to do is make a VBA macro, of some sort, that acts upon when, AB for instance, is changed to AC, and then multiply the adjacent numerical value in the B column by a conversion value:
AB -> AC = 3 AC -> AD = 7 AD -> AB = 4
So for example, if I had cell B2 as 10 and C2 as AB, then changed AB to AC using the drop down menu, the macro would recognise the change, select the adjacent cell, B2, and multiply it by 3 to get 30, and put 30 in B2.
This is what I've got so far, and I'm no VBA expert, so I've probably made mistakes in multiple places. At the moment, the code below is getting stuck on active.celloffset - and I'm really not sure why. I did manage to get it working with specific cells rather than a range, but that only ever worked once and I had to close and re-open excel to get it to work again. Is my code any good, or am I coming at this from the wrong direction?
Code: Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range) Code: Static ov As Variant For Each Cell In Range("B1:B10")
Moving between different sheets changes the procedure window, which is a good thing, but can also can be error prone and annoying to search through several windows searching for the procedure or module currently working on. Is there a setting somewhere to prevent VBE from changing the current procedure window?
At the top of my worksheet, I have a summary table of four regions. These take subtotals from the rows below, which are grouped by each region
I would like to create hyperlinks in my summary table to then go directly to the row below it relates to, however, because I insert and delete rows, I'm not sure how to make my hyperlinks dynamic.
E.g. Four regions are A, B, C and D A is currently found in A10, B in A25, C in A40 and D in A60
If I insert 3 rows above row 15, A is still in A10, B is now in A28, C in A43 and D in A60 (to confirm, summary table and linked cells are all on the same worksheet)
How can I make the hyperlinks in the summary table change automatically so that when clicked it takes me straight to the new row location instead of the previous one?
I have a work sheet with over 500 different name enteries. I need to change the cell color to red if the cell has the name "john" in it. The names are listed in a column (ex. A1:A500)
The cell could have the name "John Jackson", "John Johnson", "John A", or just "John". As long as the name "John" is found, the cell color should turn red.
If the cell has the name "Mike", "Mike A", "Mike Johnson" then change color to Green. Here I am looking for any cell that has the name Mike in it.
and so on ...
I have over 500 different names so Conditional formating won't help me here. I was wondering if I could do this with VBA coding.
Problem Designing "new customer" form, a textbox(forename) in the form has the Control source of "B3" (an empty space in my Customer database). When the form is run and the forname is typed in the box, it fair enough appears in the Database sheet (in B3). However, then when opening the form again and typing over the forename just inserted it will ofcourse overwrite it (B3 is replaced). Any ideas how i can input code into the sub linked to the textbox so that it checks the control source and moves down if the source is empty(code checks B3 for text, moves to B4) then the next one (B4 is checked, moved to B5).
Dim topCel As Range, bottomCel As Range, _ sourceRange As Range, targetRange As Range Set topCel = Range("B2") Set bottomCel = Range("B65536").End(xlUp) If topCel.Row > bottomCel.Row Then End Set sourceRange = Range(topCel, bottomCel) Set targetRange = Range("B3")
I have a cell that is being populated by a formula. Is it possible that every time the value of that cell changes, the new value goes into the next available cell on another sheet?
