I have 10 graphs with more than 20 legend entries. However, each graph only needs 3-4 elements out of the 20 legend entries in the graph. Is there any way to force Excel to only show those legend entries that have a value? (without deleting them manually)
View 12 RepliesHow can I add missing values to the axis in a pivot chart line chart? I have a numerical X-axis with values such as 0,1,5,8,14, etc. I have another set of Y values that correspond to the X values. If this was an XY-scatter plot I'd be able to plot X vs. Y and connect the dots for "gaps" in the X values. Since it's a pivot chart I cannot use an XY-scatter plot, I can only use a line chart. The line chart doesn't give me the ability to add the "missing" values, so it gives the impression that my data is more closely packed than it is. The data source is external to my spreadsheet, so I cannot add the values before creating the pivot table/chart.

At the moment say I put in the following
Catalogue 1 100
Catalogue 2 98
Catalogue 3 92
Catalogue 4 85
Catalogue 5 84

I add Data Labels and select the percentages. This shows at Cat 1 having 12.5% of the sales (100 of 800 sales), Cat 2 having 12.25%, and so on..... However, what you don't see is the following data:
Catalogue 11 60
Catalogue 12 58
Catalogue 13 57
Catalogue 14 57
Catalogue 15 56
So based on 1,088 sales, Cat 1 at 100 is actually only 9.19% of TOTAL sales.
I understand what is happening, the chart is giving the percentage based on the data inputted into the chart.
I did consider adding an 11th category to the chart, which was the total of Catalogues 11-15. Whilst this does give a more accurate percentage figure (as now all sales have been inputted), it makes the chart look ****
Is there a way of either adding the 11th category, and then "hiding" it, so that the chart doesn't display it, but uses it's value to calculate Catalogues 1-10s percentage?
BTW: The reason I ask is that I could be dealing with anywhere from 30 to over 100 catalogues. So it's not ideal showing the others in 1 chart.

I know that i can change the formatting of the whole legend, and even different entries in the legend. Is it possible to change the font of just a couple of characters in one legend entry?
Elements I need to change are:

Size (varying from 8 to 14)
Bolding etc.

I have a chart with 20 series labels that are series 1, series 2.... etc. I want to label them with 20 corresponding cells but can't find how to do this in Excel 2010 (I seem to remember this being easy to do in older versions). At the moment I am having to click on source data and edit each label individually... Is there a quicker way?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have charts that needs to be placed on specific position and have specific sizes on a chartsheet. I use chartobjects(i).plotarea (top, left, width, height) for that.
Unfortunately when I set these values they still change and get antoher value, there is some scaling going on in Excel and I do not know where that comes from. I have been looking on the internet and finally I found a piece of code which works, but still not good enough, because the legend is also not good positioned.
De data for resizing the charts (ChtNew), the legends and the charttitle I get from other charts (ChtOrig). The legend.legendposition of ChtOrig does not have a value but it still have a top,left,height en width which I use.
I show you my code, the part with the for-next is taken from the internet.

see this example of a chart: see Image1.gif (the right thumbnail) as you can see 2 different types of graphs are combined: "lines with markers" and "clustered column".
in the legend one can see that the order inside the legend is clustered by the two types. within a type i can change the order easily (right click on a line or column - format data series - series order - up or down).
question: i would like to change the order freely. how to do this? for the order inside the legend i actually do not care at all, whether a representation of the data is a line or a column. i only want to make it as readable as possible. example what i'd like to get (made by handmodifing the picture with a drawing program): see Image3.gif (the left thumbnail)
I have a sheet with about 50-60 charts and I am hoping to have a master list of chart titles on the side, how can I link these titles with the charts themselves?

I can adjust the series ordering between the 2 xy plots, and between the stacked columns, but not for all 4 at the same time.
I'd like the legend to show up as:
Series1, Series2, Series3, Series4
where 1 and 2 are the xy plots and 3 & 4 are the components of the stacked columns.
It is currently:
Series3, Series4, Series1, Series2
Any idea how to re-order the legend entries?

I have a spreadsheet where I track income (positive) and expense (negative) items and compare budget to actual amounts. I want to create a simple bar graph comparing budgeted amounts to actual amounts for each item.
However, when I do this, I see all of my income items above the line (pointing up) and all of the expense items below the line (pointing downward).
Is there an option I can select to just use absolute values for the items so they all appear above the line?
I am trying to create a chart that would show all of the Amount values for each Size value that is in the example data below. The Size column has fixed values. In my example the values are: .5, 1, 2, 5, 8, 13 and 21. The Amount column data is variable. Any of the static Size values can be associated with many Amount values. I was attempting to have the static Size values on the X (horizontal) axis and the Amount values on the Y (vertical) axis. I would like to have all of the Amount values for each Size value be shown directly above the corresponding size value, in one vertical line. See example below.

I am using bar chart to display top 5 units sold each year to my Excel file. In the data table, I have listed all the units and its number (quantity) sold. The problem is, the legend of the chart displays all the units instead of just displaying units that has values (top 5 units each year) which makes the legend hard to read (see attachment) How do I get Excel to select legends only if there is a value for it?

I basically need row 18 starting from Column O to self populate.
Its based off of which has 1's in the Column. I have the completed here manually just to show you what i am looking for . I usually have to go to row 3 and Enter the data manually depending on which 1's are filled in for the column.

I'm using excel worksheets to design a form (not a userform) to be used on a touchscreen tablet pc. Often this form will be used to count various objects or observations. For user-friendliness and ease of use, I wanted to provide a 1-click way to enter a text or numeric value into a cell.
There are somewhat standard values that need to get entered (yes/no; yes/no/unsure; 1-5; 1-10; etc.); however there are certain instances where I want to be able to modify the values to be entered. (i.e. 1-10, with ability to apply +10... so they then become 11-20).
There are many questions, and I want to reuse the 'component' and code to be able to assign a value to a cell based on clicking a visual element. The visual element containing the value that was assigned in the cell should also change color to indicate that it is value that has been selected.
For the sake of helping to reduce possible back-and-forth elaboration and eventual proposed solutions in this thread, I'll quickly describe the implementation I tried to adopt, but which has led to issues.
These requirements led me to think that some representation of a button would be necessary; and I tried using grouped textboxes. I got it working well, but then performance crapped out once I started protecting/unprotecting the sheet (as excel doesn't allow reading the value of a grouped textbox, i had to do a build shape-range / ungroup / loop thru shaperange / regroup).
Dave suggested that groups are perhaps not necessary, so I've created this thread. Any/all suggestions welcome. See attached xls file for an example of where I've gotten so far (i.e. this is functionality I want to have, but perhaps a different implementation (non-grouped?) would be possible, which does not suffer from performance issues once incorporating protection/unprotection of a sheet)
I am trying to compare the values in an array with the values in a range of cells. It worked fine until I moved the code into a sub. The specific problem that I am having is that is pulling cell values from "shippablegoodspriorday" and it is supposed to be pulling the cell values from "shippablegoods".

I am trying to add the date my charts were created. I have the date the charts were created in a cell then I added a text box to each chart referencing the cell with the date. On some of the charts the date is showing. But on other charts on same sheet, the date only shows when selecting the chart area of the chart but disappears when selecting other charts or cells on the same sheet.

I want to create a chart or graph that has a timeline of 24 hours, (in multiples of 1 hour starting at 07:00 and going right through to 06:00), and I need the times entered by the users to appear on the chart to give an overview of when these incidents are happening most.
I was thinking that the cluster or scatter chart might work but I can't figure it out. I don't actually need both X and Y Axis, just a timeline - is it possible?
