Cracked Vb Code: Prevent People From Accesing The Code I Protected The Code Blocking It From Visualization

Feb 8, 2007

I've developed a little software using Excel Macros & VB. To prevent people from accesing the code I protected the code blocking it from visualization. It seems not enough as an acquaintance of a friend cracked it in 25 minutes. Or so he says. So I'd like to know if there is a better way to protect the font code.

I know how to apply a password to a VBA project (Tools -> Project Properties -> Protection) but the problem is this: when a colleague installs the add-in, the subroutines within the add-in are not available in the Macros list to be added to the ribbon (in the Customize Ribbon window). The subroutines only appear when I remove the password.

Run VBA Macro Code On Protected Worksheet

May 18, 2009

I have incorporated print/print-preview command buttons/VBA into a workbook with protected sheets. To enable these command buttons to function when the relevant sheet is protected, I have had to add VBA code to unprotect the sheet before generating the print preview, and then to protect it again afterwards. However, the code I have used (see below) prompts the user to enter the protection password, is there any code I can use where I can write the password into the code itself to unprotect the worksheet without the using having to enter the password?

'Unprotect Sheet
ActiveSheet.Unprotect

'Print preview & cell formatting code

'Protect Sheet

Prevent Access To The Code Of A Macro

Is there a way to prevent access to the code of a macro? I am interested in sending out some macro's, but would prefer that the user only be able to run them, and not be able to access the code via the edit button. Curiously, there have been occasion's where I wanted to edit my own work, but the edit button did not function, so I had to exit and start over to proceed. From this I'm guessing there must be a way.

Prevent Event Code Running

Oct 19, 2007

I know how to enable/disable events using VBA code, however is there an option within excel to turn it on/off? My problem is this...

At the beginning of my code I disable events and at the end I enable it again (I need to do this to avoid being caught in a loop). However something is going wrong somewhere in my code and the code stops halfway through. I'm trying to test sections of the code, but I often inadvertently stop the code without enabling the events again. Therefore I can't get my VBA to execute again unless I close excel down and restart. This is a pain as I have to find my place in the code again!

Prevent Cut/Copy/Move Macro Code

Sep 8, 2006

I have to issue template workbooks to people for budgeting purposes.

Within the workbooks are various numbers of worksheets pre -formatted and ready for these people to enter data.

Some of the data in the worksheets is important to them as individuals but not to me so I have a series of macros that lift the information from the worksheets and put it into a worksheet more specific to me.

Because the users are on the whole not that good with Excel I have put in easy to use look up tables and various proctections to stop them adding or deleting rows or columns as this plays havoc with my macros.

There is one thing I have "so far" been unable to do and I wondered if anyone could help.

Is there a macro that I could put somewhere in the workbook which would detect when someone tried to cut and paste and would either put up a message box or stop them doing this?

The reason being they are cutting from one row to another and this is messing up the calculations which are protected.

Is there also a way to stop them changing the name on the sheet tab in the smae way?

UserForm Code Showing Cell Protected Message

Aug 24, 2006

I have a spreadsheet set up to automate calculations and control data input for in process quality control checks. The spreadsheet is basically a series of input boxes requesting information from the user. To control the input of part numbers I have some code for a userform which populates listbox within the userform from another closed spreadsheet (opens & closes without updating screen) & enters the selected data from the listbox into a selected cell in the spreadsheet

all the input boxes and calculations are working well, the userform works well, BUT when I include the userform within the code I get the following problem, an error saying that I am trying to change data in a protected cell where data has been entered and then protected by the VB code, even though the code is not trying to change the cell.

I have tried just loading and unloading the userform and everything works well, it only fails when I actually use the userform, and then close it. from this I am fairly sure the problem lies within the form so I have been through the form code line by line and deleted anything that is not vital and the problem persists. Here is the form

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Dim Msg, Style, Title, Help, Ctxt, Response, MyString
Dim Part As String

Part = ActiveSheet.Range("B1")
Msg = "Are you sure you want Part No" & vbNewLine & Part ' Define message.
Style = vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton2 ' Define buttons.
Title = "SELECT PART No." ' Define title.

Adding Some Additional Code To Prevent Someone From Saving Workbook?

Adding some additional code to prevent someone from saving the workbook under a different name. Currently if someone tried to enter data after the allotted time period, it would allow them to in any "unlocked" cells. When exiting or trying to save the file with this new data, they will get a message stating something to the effect that this is a read only file would you like to save as another name, which would allow the user to circumvent what I'm trying to accomplish. The end result would be they'd need a new spreadsheet.

Prevent Event Code Running When Other Workbooks Open

Aug 23, 2008

I am having difficulties with my Worksheet_Activate() macro. It works great within workbook1 when it is only workbook1 open - but when I open another workbook2, the macro stills runs, presumably because Sheet1 of workbook1 is still activated as well as the newly activated sheet in workbook2.

Is there a way to ensure that only 1 worksheet of 1 workbook is activated at a time? Or that sheet1 of workbook1 is deactivated when workbook2 is opened/clicked on? I need my Worksheet_Deactivate macro to run to get rid of my Worksheet_Activate macro (which runs an application that resets the function of keyboards keys). Otherwise moving around workbook2 is a nightmare. When I navigate back to workbook1 while workbook2 is still open, I still want sheet1 of workbook1 to be activated and my macro to run .

Code To Prevent Editing & Selecting Of Range Worksheet

Sep 3, 2008

I have the following code that Ger Plante very kindly helped me with which, depending on whether there is an 'x' by someone's name in a list, creates a new workbook, copies some information to it and saves it before moving on to the next 'x'. Loop Through Rows & Copy Each Row To New Workbook

For lLoop = 2 To 251 'first row of data to last row.
If ws1.Cells(lLoop, 4).Value = "x" Then '4 = Column D
ws1.Activate
ws1.Range("e" & lLoop & ":g" & lLoop).Copy
ws1.Range("B1").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=True
Rng1.Copy
Workbooks.Add
ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Select
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteColumnWidths, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:=False, Transpose:=False
ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Select
ActiveSheet.SaveAs varPath & "Student Data Files" & ActiveSheet.Range("B1") & ".xls"
ActiveWorkbook.Close

Else
End If

Next lLoop

how I can modify the code such that any cells in the range "b1:b504" in Sheet1 of the the new workbook can't be selected or edited without a password....I have tried unsuccessfully using Protect but am not sure how to get vba to set it to specific cells and determine exactly what is allowed in those cells.

Autofilter Code Failing On Shared Workbook & Protected Sheet

Sep 3, 2007

I have a protected worksheet with some macros running on it, and I have been requested to make the workbook shared. Trying to implement this, I keep getting the standard "1004 You cannot use this command on a protected sheet" error when applying an autofilter.

Here is what is making this problem a little tricky:

- As the workbook is shared, I cannot do Protect UserInterfaceOnly because you can't change the protection settings on a shared workbook without unsharing it. Needless to say, I cannot unshare the workbook.

- When I protect the sheet, I do allow the user to use autofilter. Consequently, Sheet.Protection.AllowFiltering and Sheet.EnableAutofilter both are on. Still, I keep getting the error.

The failing line of code is:

shData. Range("_filterDataBase").AutoFilter lngField, strArg

where shData is the codename of the sheet, lngField is the number of the field and strArg is the filtering criteria.

My guess is, that the error comes from the fact that (for some silly reason) in VBA the .AutoFilter method is used to create a new filter, not only to use an existing one. The members of Sheet.AutoFilter.Filters collection are read-only, and cannot be used to modify the existing filter.

Rewrite Line Of Code To Prevent Changing Number Format

Aug 5, 2007

The following block of code is evaluating the term in the array, if it exists and the value in col. M is a non integer, (which what I am testing for are fractions) then format the cell to a fraction number format.
That is ok, except it is changing the numberformat on text terms. I want it only to change the numberformat on numeric values.
I added the function Isnumeric to this line:

Isnumeric(cells(i, "M").value) Int(cells(i, "M").value)
which I thought would only evaluate numeric cells only, but this was unsuccessful.

Original Code: Unedited.

For i = 4 To LRowf
For Each Item In Array("HAT", "FTWR", "BOOT", "BOOTG", "BOOTY", "HWRISR", "HWBLTS")
On Error Resume Next
If (Cells(i, "F").Value = Item Or Cells(i, "G").Value = Item) And _
Cells(i, "M").Value Int(Cells(i, "M").Value) Then
Cells(i, "M").NumberFormat = "# ?/?"

Calendar Control 11: Selected On The Calendar Is Greater Than 12 The Date Is Entered Correctly Onto The Sheet

Jan 8, 2010

I have a program where I can update the calibration due date of an item. I have attached a cut down version of my program showing the relevant areas. There is usually password protection on the worksheet so it can only be edited via the form (the vba coding removes the password protection before editing, then re-enables the password protection after editing). The "Update Calibration" button is usually on a "Menu" sheet.

Once the form is opened a serial number is typed in the textbox. The calendar button is then clicked, which brings up another form with the calendar on. The due date is selected on the calendar. When "OK" is clicked, the date label caption is then changed to the selected calendar date. When "Submit" is clicked, the spreadsheet will search for the Serial Number, once found, the label caption (being the date selected) will be entered into the cell to the right of the serial.

If the day selected on the calendar is greater than 12 the date is entered correctly onto the sheet. example: calendar date selected = 15/01/2010. shown on sheet as 15/01/2010. However, if the day selected on the calendar is 12 or less, the date is for some reason entered incorrectly onto the sheet. example: calendar date selected = 08/12/2010. shown on sheet as 12/08/2010???? What is going on here? how come the day and month are swapped around if the day is less than 12????
