Color Cell If Formula Overwritten
Oct 31, 2006Is there a way to embolden/highlight/colour, etc. a cell and its contents when a formula in that cell has been overwritten with text?

View 2 RepliesThere is a clever piece of conditional formatting designed to show if a formula has been overwritten. It works by creating a range called (say) CellHasFormula and then entering =GET.CELLl(48,Indirect("rc",false)) in the reference box. In the cell you wish to conditionally format you enter =CellHasFormula. If the formula in that cell is overwritten, then the conditional formatting is displayed.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a user form, and need to admit at this point that unfortunately I have no knowledge of VBA - bog standard excel formulae are what I know!
I am trying to create a section for people to enter an address, and in itself this is quite straightforward, but I want to be able to enter faint text in the cells as an information instruction that will disappear as someone starts to type in that cell. Can anyone help with a method that would work within Excel versions 2000, 2003 & 2007? (I realise that I could insert a comment, but it's not an obvious instruction, and given the Excel knowledge of a lot of people who will be using this form, it would be completely overlooked!)
When I enter a formula into a cell, for instance; (d27*d28/144)*d23, and then enter a number into cell d23, the formula gets replaced by the value of the result automatically.
I've searched the help files and found no setting that does this. It reminds me of an old question I've had lingering since I've used excel and that is why sometimes when you enter a math calculation, for intance; =25/5, the number 5 is entered into the cell instead of the formula.
After I posted the above, the problem magically went away until.....
This is boggling my mind. The problem is back.
The wierd thing is I copy a known good formula to one of these cells, for a split second you can see the formula in the formula window and then it gets changed automatically to the result of the formula. Formula is gone!
Then I tried this:
I set security to high (I had it on Low) and of course my macros would not run, but this did not clear up the problem. However when I set security back to low, it now seems to be working good. I am scepticle (sp.?) though because the problem is very random.
Could I have a virus?
I have 2 opened workbooks. Call them BookCopy.xls and BookPaste.xls.
In BookCopy.xls I have filtered data which I want to copy ("shtCopy") and insert into a particular row in sheet ("shtPaste") in BookPaste.xls.
"shtPaste" already has data in it. Hence when I paste the data in, I don't want the existing data to be overwritten.
I have a file of company name exactly duplicated. Within each duplicate set of rows each row can have a different account code (number).
I need to normalise all rows to one account code (any one will do - I can actually do this bit using some commercial software so this bit can be skipped as part of this thread) but also keep every variation/different account code in an 'audit trail' field for each row.
The attached sample file shows the input and desired output i would like.
I am currently using this Formula to Search a table on sheet 2 (Tabelle2) and copy the date in the relevent cell (Cells) into the correct cell on Sheet 1 (Master Sheet).
[Code] ..........
Used in cells E10:AZ30 and E33:AZ46
This works perfectly and is the formula behind all relevent cells in Sheet 1.
I would like to keep this but to add that it also copies the background color of the cell in Sheet 2 to the cell in sheet 1.
If i can Bring this Formula into VBA and add the color changing part, It must only work on the cells listed above..
Is it possible to reference a cell's colour in a formula within a spreadsheet - without using VBA? i.e If Cell A1 has a fill colour of yellow, can I have a formula in cell A2 that says If Cell A1 fill colour = Yellow, result = 1 etc. I know this can be done in VBA, and I have done that, but just wondered if possible this way.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIs there formula to use if I want an IF statement to add a date "TODAY()" to a cell if a corresponding cell is highlighted? I would search for this in the archives if I had a clue what to search for. "Conditional formatting", maybe?

How would that work? My worksheet is posted below: ......
I would like to add a value to a cell. The value in this cell will either be 1, 2, 3 or 4.
The value of this cell needs to be "1", if the cell to its left is "Red".

The value of this cell needs to be "4", if the cell to its left is "Blue".
I believe I need to find the HEX values for the colors, but that is no problem, I just need the formula of the function if you know it.
Is it possible to have a formula check the color index of a cell?
Example if A1 color index = 6 then X

Here is where I am stuck/what I am putting inside the cell:
=If( 'Program Tracker'!E16="","",IF('Program Tracker'!E16>= DATE(2006,3,3),IF('Program Tracker'!E16<=(DATE(2006,3,9)),"YELLOW","")))
Where you see "YELLOW" is where I need to put something in so it makes the active/current cell color yellow.

My colleagues are working on multiple projects at once. The projects got different priority, so I'm looking for a formula that change the cell color if a person is working on it, depending on the project's priority.
For example if John is working on project: East(pri.1), South(pri.2) and West(pri.3). On East he got 5 remaining hours (cell E8). Then i would like that cell to turn red. For South green and West red.

I am trying to use VBA in Excel 2007 to change bar chart series colors. I have found a few posts that link it to a cell background, but I'm struggling to find one that does the font color.
It would be great if I could change the bar chart series to match the color of the text in the A column, so that if I highlighted the value in A1 and changed the text color to orange for whatever reason, the chart updates the value of 1.2 to an orange bar (see below).
T. A1 B1
Sample 1 1.2
Sample 2 2.1
Sample 3 1.7
Sample 4 5.6
I have a range of cells that change colors with conditional formats based on the cell value from high to low. I would like to link the cell color to an object such as a circle or rectangle. When the cell value changes along with the conditional format, the color of the object will also change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have got a userform with lots of controls,
One of the action's on a large group of the controls is the same but except for one number
here is an example
If TextBox107.ForeColor = 255 Then ActiveCell. Offset(0, 53).Font.ColorIndex = 3
If TextBox108.ForeColor = 255 Then ActiveCell.Offset(0, 54).Font.ColorIndex = 3
If TextBox109.ForeColor = 255 Then ActiveCell.Offset(0, 55).Font.ColorIndex = 3
This makes a cell that correlates to the textbox red if the text in the textbox is red.
Now, I loads of these textboxes that all need to run the same code with just the Offset value one digit higher than the last and I was hoping I could create a loop to avoid a huge block of code but I can't work out how to make a constant that will +1 with each loop.
Also, can I assume that a loop will start with the control with the lowest number i.e. Textbox1 and then work its way through the rest of them in order?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is probably elementary, but I'm struggling and would appreciate any help as I have very little excel VBA experience to draw from.
I have assembled code which changes the cell color based on a value change in Column A. Column A will contain many different groups of repeating values. This code works well and and I have been able to figure out how to limit the number of colors to only 2. The end result is each set of similar values in column A is visually grouped by one of two alternating colors.
The number rows in the data set is variable as the data set is extracted from SAP. The number of columns is fixed.
What I want to do now is set the cell color in columns B through F the same color that was assigned to the row in column A. So if cell A3 is set to colorindex = 6, then I want to set the range of cells B3 to E3 to the same color.
Here is the code I am using to set the color of the cells in Column A:

I am trying to change the color of the text in the second column (B) to the corresponding color in the adjacent cell in the first column (A). I don't think conditional formating works well in this situation. I believe the solution would be some sort of macro.
