Comparing 2 Columns, Highlighting The Higher Number
Sep 1, 2009
I am trying to do is I have column C and column G. For each row, I want to highlight or change the font color of the greater number. I can do it with conditional formatting, but I am only able to do it for 1 row at a time and it will take forever considering there are over 800 rows.
Is there an easy way to compare the two columns and highlight or change the font color of the higher number in that row?
For example:
C G
4 5
8 1
6 2
9 11
So it would highlight the 5 in the first row, the 8 in the second row, the 6 in the third row, and 11 in the fourth row.
I have two Columns C and E that have dollar amounts in them. I want to compare each row in those columns and then total the number in column C that are higher that column E.
So basically C6>E6, C7<E7, C8=E8,C9>E9 should return the result of 2. There are two instances where the price in C is higher than the price in E.
So I played around with the macro i posted on the previous thread, two allow me to compare two columns of data to see if they contain the same information, and have come up with the below, which works almost flawlessly:
[Code]....
The idea being that it compares the two rows of data, then in the colmun to the right puts a y or n if the data is contained in both cells. I have added in some code that related to highlighting those cells with 'n' in the allow me to see it much easier. The macro works fine, however it seems that when it runs, it will sometimes highlight random cells not in column d, for example colum g etc.
Need a excel macro which can compare 2 xls files and highlight cells which are different in the 2 files its like a slightly advanced one >a prompt which asks file 1 after selecting file a prompt whichasks for file 2 ..then on running it should highlight cells in file two which are different from file one Both file have same layout ie if file one has n columns in n worksheets file 2 will also have same . So the comparison should be done for each worksheet in both file and cells should be highlighted ..
In a grade book, if students get a grade on the final exam that is higher than the midterm grade, this becomes the exam portion of their (if it's lower, it's averaged). So a student who gets an 81 on the midterm and a 90 on the final gets a 90 for the exam portion of the final grade. What's the easiest formula to make the final exam grade the average if it's higher than the midterm grade?
Right now the formula I use for the course grade is this:
=SUM(I3*$I$1)+(J3*$J$1)+(K3*$K$1)
where I3/J3/K3 are the midterm/final/quiz averages, and I1/J1/K1 represents the respective % (30/40/30) of the grade assigned to the midterm/final/quizzes.
I need a formula that can look at to cells, and if they are both the same pick cell A1 but if one of the cells has a higher amount than the other pick that one.
so the formula would do the following
look at the amount in A1 and B1 if A1 is higher than B1 input A1, if B1 is higher than A1 input B1 but if A1 = B1 then input A1,
I have two columns with values. Then I have a third column with one letter A or B.
I'm not used to excel, but I've tried my way with COUNTIFS and I'm pretty sure it's the way to go, but I'm lost in the syntax.
I want to count the number of times the values in the first column is larger than the values in the second column, if the letter is A. And then flip the ">" sign and count that and hopefully the first number is higher.
Averages Monday=0 Tuesday=5 Wednesday=7.5 Thursday=0 (I have got a value return of 7.5) Friday=5 Saturday=0 (I have got a value return of 5) Sunday=0 (I have got a value return of 5)
I need to work out averages for cells higher than zeros, in other words, I need to ignore those.
Also say I have got an average of 5 by Tuesday and no number yet for the rest of the week, I still get an average of 5 for all days left which I do not want.
I am using excel 2003 and formula =SUM(RANGE)/COUNTIF(RANGE,">=0").
I would also like to hide the annoying #DIV/0! error.
See attched spreadsheet. I would like excel to highlight the rows where a value (model) = *.* (ie: not a whole number). I think the attached spreadsheet explains it better.
I have been trying to find a way to highlight columns that are filtered in Excel. On a laptop it is not always that easy to tell which columns are filtered. I have found a piece of VBA that can do this (see http://www.vbaexpress.com/kb/getarticle.php?kb_id=365).
I would like to do two things:
1. Have this run whenever an autofilter is changed (a new filter chosen or a current filter changed).
2. Have this effective for every workbook that I open.
I'm hoping that someone can help a VBA newbie sort this out.
My sheet cotains a variable number of duplicates (2 up to 12 duplicates) that can each have different amounts.
Ex: 9879 = 7 9879 = 0
I would like to be able to highlight all the duplicates for that show only 0 as their value (all the duplicates must have a total value of 0). I've tried nested if functions and conditional formating but to no avail.
I've attached a small file that shows the end result.
My sheet contains a variable number of duplicates (2 up to 14 duplicates) that can each have different amounts.
Ex: 9879 = 7 9879 = 0
I would like to be able to highlight all the duplicates for that show only 0 as their value (all the duplicates must have a total value of 0). I've tried nested if functions and conditional formating but to no avail.
I've attached a small file that shows the end result. Attachment 241407
Any method for colour highlighting a row (specific number of cells) as and when any cell of that row is selected, and return to normal when deselected.
how to do the formula for highlighting whole row after entering a date in one of the columns.this spread sheet had over 300 rows so I can't do the conditional formatting, I need a formula for whole spreadsheet.
Well I spent some time yesterday trying to figure this one out. It was only last week that I have taught myself how to use VBA in excel. However this looks like a though one.
Simply what i would like to do is highlight a column of a certain date (till a certain row number) based on a list of dates.
eg. Across the top I have a set of dates and on another sheet i have a list of dates.
I understand that there is a VBA code for such conditional formatting but i can't get my head around it.
I found this spreadsheet on here and I have been trying to customize it to what I need. I am trying to have scores from skins match highlighted. I want only the minimum score to be highlighted but if there is another duplicate minimum score I don't want it to highlight anything. I also need to find a way to count the skins won by each player and have it off to the side.
For those not familiar with golf a Skin is a game where you try to get the lowest amount of strokes on a specific hole. Ex- 4 people play the hole one. P1 scores 4, P2 gets a 3, P3 and P4 get 6. The skin would go to P2 who has the lowest score on that hole.
Highlight lowest number in each column not highlighting if there are duplicates starting at L6 down to L11 and for each column till AC. And the same for the group just to the right on attached file.
On row 13 and 14 it tells me who won a skin. I want to tally up the total skins won by each player. so if Joe's names shows up twice on R14 I want it to tell me somewhere in the sheet Joe = 2
each month i have to clens a sheet that shows customer name and then the figures per month.
this is pulled from a system that allows for a new entry each time a variation on customer name is used, I.E
Joe Blogs LTD Joe Blogs Limited Joe Blogs ltd.
would all come through as new entries. then i have to manually consolidate the figures from each month. the spreadsheet has over 5000 rows, and maybe only 15% are duplicated. what i want is to be able to select the column (that will be sorted a-z) and highlight cells that have a match for the first 4 or 5 charicters.
once i have identified duplicates i then have to merge the data into one row. is there an easy way to do this? it is monthly, comparing 2008 and 2009, so by december there will be 24 columns + the company name that need to be clensed.
Have been doing some sums on excel. I've managed to calculate the number of months between 2 dates using this formula.....
=DATEDIF(C3,D3,"y")&" years "&DATEDIF(C3,D3,"ym")&" months "
I then come up with a list of months calculated.
What I now want to know is, how many are equal to or more than 9 months? And if this is the case then can the cells be highlighted in a different colour?
1) if Column M has the value "School" then corresponding value in column N should have oly "Bus","Subject","Teacher". if values in Column B other than "Bus","Subject","Teacher" then the cell should populate RED Color.
2) if Column M has the value "College" then corresponding value in column N should have oly "Box","Madam","World". if values in Column B other than "Box","Madam","World" then the cell should populate RED Color.
I have a table with many columns of data on sheet1
Is it possible to have sheet2 have ... oh I dont know... say 5 columns. In which I can choose the headers that correspond to the headers in sheet1. Therefore comparing the columns that I want simply by changing the header?
What I'm attempting to do is analyze data on spread sheet. I've attached an example. what I need to do is compare columns "E" and "I". But I have numerous means of comparing the data. I think I will need three different formulas which is okay and am unsure if VBA is better. For example: I compare "E2" and "I2"...ect: 1) I would need to compare complete cell 2) I would need to compare the first three digits 3) I would need to compare the middle digits If you towards the end you can see that some will compare to a BLANK cell if column "E" is ever blank. I first tried using countif but couldn't get it done. I only need totals that do not match in this category.i.e. 25 of 140 do not match.
I have currently browsed the forums and have came up with a code to compare two columns from two separate excel books and then highlight anything matching with the CompareRange. Here is a few more details about the problem:
- I have two excel sheets. And data like this in each sheet:
(First Sheet) (Second Sheet) -A B N O -7 .7 3 .56 -6 .6 8 .45 -5 .5 9 .55 -4 .4 11 .2 -3 .3 8 .22 -2 .2 9 .55 -1 .1 8 .54
As you can see, given this example nothing should be highlighted once the macro is run since nothing from Column A or B from the first sheet matches directly with Column N & O from the second sheet. The problem is that with the macro (module) I have come up with will highlight "3" from Column A and ".2" from Column B, just because they appear in Column N & Column O respectivally. What I want: I only want a number to be highlighted if both the numbers "7" & ".7" are matched in the same row of Column N & Column O on the other spreadsheet. To be a little more precise, I'll give an example. Say I edited the data to be like this.
(First Sheet) (Second Sheet) A B N O 7 .7 3 .56 8 .45 8 .45 5 .5 9 .55 11 .4 11 .2 3 .3 8 .22 2 .2 9 .55 1 .1 8 .54
With this data, I would want the second row of A & B ("8" & ".45") highlighted, while my error "3" of Column A and ".2" of Column B is not highlighted. Also, I would like it if row 4 of Column A & B ("11" & ".4") is not highlighted at all either, just because in O it is .2 and in B it would be .4 even though the 11's match. Attached is the macro/module I have entered in which is working kind of correctly but producing the mistake. And also, (kind of a lesser problem), both the files with data will have the same header, example would be if Column A & Column N both had "Dogs" as it's title in Row 1 and Column B & O both had "Cats" as it's title in Row 1. Is there anyway the macro can be adjusted so it compares those two columns between the two workbooks without me even having to select or assigning a range?
HTML Code: Sub Find_Matches() Dim Column1 As Range Dim Column2 As Range
I have column A which contains a range of part numbers, and column B is an On Hand quantity of that part number.
Column C is just like column A, in that it contains the same part numbers but it has about 1,000 additional part numbers that are obsolete. Column D has the On Hand quantity for Column C.
Column A and B are old information as far as the On Hand quantities, where Column C and D are up to date On Hand. The problem is the old outdated part numbers in column C.
How do I make column A and column C match, but not lose their respective On Hand quantities? I know this sounds discombobulated, but basically I need column A's part numbers, with column D's on hand quantity.
I'm trying to compare addresses in a worksheet, column A and column C have the addresses in them, in column A there are 44063 rows and column C has 43751 rows , both columns should have the same number of rows in each column because they should have the same number of addresses in each column but they dont so what i need to find out is which addresses from column A arent in column C and which addresses in column C arent in Column A and have the result put in column D.
workbook1 column A has tag numbers, workbook2 column A also has tag numbers. I want to compare the 2 columns and if the tag number in book 1 is also in book 2 i want it to return 25B-F138-28-01 in column B workbook1.
I have need to do a comparison of 2 values located in different columns. As this is almost impossible to describe in text format, I have included a spreadsheet showing exactly the problem. Im sure the solution will involve INDEX and MATCH but every permutation I have tried has failed (possibly theres another way?).
