I am trying to concatenate some string and integer. It is always for previous month end date, i.e, 7/31/2009 or 8/31/2009.
Here is I have the data now
Profit and Loss for
After running the macro I would like to be
Profit and Loss for 8/31/2009
Here is what I wrote so far which does not work. I am sure there is simpler way to do it. I put the month end date 5 columns to the right for the time being and in the intention after deleting it after concatenation automatically.
For Each cell In Selection
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 5).Value = "=EOMONTH(TODAY(),-1)"
ActiveCell.Offset(0, 5).Activate
Selection.Copy
Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks _
:=False, Transpose:=False
Application.CutCopyMode = False
Selection.NumberFormat = "m/d/yyyy"
I am trying to combine text from multiple cells into one cell. I am referencing cells that reference cells on another tab. I have tried several formulas (see attached) but I have not been able to get rid of the zeros in the resulting string. I know I could reference the original cells, but I would like to find a solution to this without using VBA.
View 3 Replies View Relatedif you look in Column G you will notice the number on the right side of the column is indented one space too many (for any number that is 6 long in column A).
Is there any way to do an IF C=6 and then have it remove a space from before the number in Column G to have it line up?
i have 2 listboxes with numbers if user has selected choice in both then i want to enable okbutton. i tried in okbutton's mousemove: if listbox1.selected = true AND listbox2.selected = true then okbutton.enabled=true.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two cells. Cell A1 contains ‘The date is ’ cell B1 is formatted in the date format, 2007-01-24. I need to concatenate these two cells so that on cell C1 I have ‘The date is 2007-01-24’ but whatever I try excel keeps on changing the date to a text value and hence I am left with: ‘The date is ‘This is the date'39141 or this is the date 39141. how to get to the result that I am after?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Excel 2010 spreadsheet that I am using to save several numbers all in the same column. These numbers can range from the several thousands up to billions. The formatting I am using for these numbers is Number (using 1000s separator).
number_forma.png
I am also using the spreadsheet to generate a text string for each of the numbers. I don't want the text string to show the number as it is, I want to shorten the number by only showing the first few digits followed by a "B" for billion, "M" for million, or "K" for thousand. For example, in the text string I want to show 1,600,000 as 1.6B.
In order to shorten the number I use the cell in the column to the right of each number. This cell uses the following custom formatting (which I found by doing a Google search): [>999999999.999]#.0,,,"B";[>999999.999]#,,"M";#,"K";
custom_format.png
As you can see the formatting is quite complex (at least for me it is) but it does what I want it to do.
Here is a screenshot of what the original and custom formatted cells look like:
custom_formatted_cells.png
As you can see the custom formatting works and does exactly what I wan
The next column (after the custom formatted number) is where I put the generated text string for each of the numbers. As I stated above, I want the generated text to use the shortened version of the number (e.g. 1.6B).
To generate the text I use the CONCATENATE function with a reference to the cell containing the shortened number as one of the arguments. For example:
CONCATENATE("SOME STRING ", B1)
Where B1 is the custom formatted cell.
The problem I am running into is, the text that gets generated doesn't show the shortened format of the number, it shows the full number. Here is a screenshot demonstrating what is happening:
concatenate_formula.png
As you can see the generated text is "SOME STRING 1600000000". This is not what I want. I want the generated text to be "SOME STRING 1.6B".
I think I understand what's going on. When the CONCATENATE function references a cell it takes the actual value of the cell and ignores any formatting. (I suppose formatting is just the way you see the data, not how underlying functions receive the data.)
My question is, how can I re-write the CONCATENATE function (or use another function, etc. available to me) to use the formatted version of the cell?
*UPDATE* I have attached my spreadsheet as an attachment to this post (tackyjan_excelforums.xlsx). Please note that it was created and saved using Excel 2010.
I'm having a problem getting the date to show up when I add the date as a referenced cell to a formula using CONCATENATE. The date shows up as a serial value instead of a date format. The formula that I'm trying to get to work is in cell J7 on the attached file.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using the concatenate function, however my date field, instead of maintaining its 08/07/07 state, changes to the annoying 5 digit 33935 number.
Even if I cut and paste it as special / values, it stays as the 5 digit number. Can this be avoided somehow?
I am concatenating a date with some text. However, after concatenating, the date becomes a text string. How do I preserve the date format? Pls see the attached file.

how can i merge Date 1 and Time 1 into a cell ? And give me mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm format? And then a subtraction on 9/3/2008 0:00:40 - 9/2/200823:31:25, which give me a hh:mm:ss result?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to concatinate a cell to show both text and date (in format mmmm dd yyyy) using a vlookup from another worksheet.
Below is the coding I have in the cell:
="High Importance Request - effective " & VLOOKUP(1,'Fuel Surcharge Key Dates'!$A$6:$E$65536,2,FALSE)
The result I get in the cell from the formula is: I still get it to come out to 39327 instead of June 4 2007
The vlookup in the formula above retrieves a date that has a cell custom formatted to mmmm d, yyyy ... as this cell is not a date that is entered by a user but is further retrieved by another vlookup of dates. Even if I place the VLOOKUP in cell A3, reformat that cell to be a date and change the coding in the formula to:
="High Importance Request - effective " & A3. I still get it to come out to 39327 instead of June 4 2007
Say in L4 on form test i want to look for the value of A4 in Drill data range a2 to z1000 and retun a concatenated string of something like "sav 407 : 08-may to 11-may"
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have attached a spreadsheet illustrating my query.
I would like to run a sub procedure called generatedataset then I'd like to enter a date from column J (starting from J4) into G12 ( cell G12 is a named range called effective_date). Then enter the concatenation of the adjacent cells K4 and L4 and place this into cell G9 (cell G9 is a named range called dataset_name). Then call the procedure again. Repeating for all values in range starting at J4 extending down, and for all corresponding concatenated values in K and L.
Data would always be taken from columns J or K&L and placed in the same cells ie G12 (named range effective_date) and G9 (named range dataset_name) respectively.
I have the following formula:
=CONCATENATE("EXP: ",TEXT(AK2," MM/DD/YY")," ","VP DATE ",TEXT(AL2," MM/DD/YY"))
But if both cells are empty I get : EXP: VP DATE
If only one is empty, i get EXP: 08/26/19 VP DATE or EXP: VP DATE 06/27/14
But I do not want EXP: or VP Date text to show if the content of the AK# or AL# is empty. I figured I will place something like If(ak#="","",
But it give me a "Too many arguments" error.
I have a spread sheet with a date colume that reads: 2012-06-27-19 I need to have this read like 06/27/2012 but nothing I do is working I have tried to go to the formatting process and backing the hr:mm out and that doesn't work. I really don't want to go line by line to manually correct this issue.. HENCE ... over 2000 lines
Second question: If I have a column that reads 02/15/2012 and another column that reads 3/27/2012 how to a format a 3rd column to make it read total number of days between 1st date and 2nd date?
I have these as input entered as text:
January 01, 2011 January 01, 2011 February 28, 2010 May 12, 2011 June 02, 2010 February 28, 2010 May 12, 2011 June 02, 2010 February 28, 2010
but I need it in this DATE format:
MM/DD/YYYY
I need it as a formula to be entered into a cell in excel (not VBA)

I have been trying to extract dates from strings.
The formula I have currently works however I've found that sometimes there are two or more dates in the string (at which point I'd like to extract the last date (appointment date)).
What I want to do is extract the date only from a string of text in a cell and put it in the cell next to it. The date is not alway in the same position within the text string and although similiar, the text string can differ. There are around 6000 lines in the sheet, I've pasted 4 as an example below.

The Small Company Ltd 19073864 COLLECTION

Lastrow = Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
Set myRange = Range(Cells(2, 1), Cells(Lastrow - 1, 1))
