Concatenate With Carriage Return- How To Remove Blanks?

I have an SQL query that returns some text data to a cell from another system.
In this system the users sometimes enter superfluous carriage returns after the text.
Can someone tell me how to write a formula/VBA code that would remove the trailing carriage return/s.
I need a macro that runs through the cells on a sheet and removes all carriage returns. The carriage returns appear as small squares amongst the text (they come from a CSV file).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a worksheet containing square carriage return symbols (see below).
EXAMPLES
Eg1. Baked[]Beans on []Toast
Eg2. Smoked[][]Salmon in Brine
Eg3. Ice[][][] Cream [][]Cosmopolitan
Eg4. Mixed[]Nuts[][]per kilo[][][][]
Eg5. [][]Baby Shampoo[]Fragrance Free
This data was extracted from an SQL Database and dumped into Excel.
I would like to know if someone can suggest a script to replace all occurrences of [] with a space.
Once I perform this, I can then perform a Search/Replace function as follows:
Replace 4 spaces with 1 Space
Replace 3 spaces with 1 Space
Replace 2 spaces with 1 Space
Hopefully then, the final result will appear as follows:
Eg1. Baked Beans on Toast
Eg2. Smoked Salmon in Brine
Eg3. Ice Cream Cosmopolitan
Eg4. Mixed Nuts per kilo
Eg5. Baby Shampoo Fragrance Free
Eg5. is a little tricky because a space will appear at the beginning of the cell (see above). It would be good if there's a script to remove occurrences of this also.
I need to include over 70 data fields in a pivot table that I want to add/remove with a pivot. They need to have an alternative caption and be formatted.
I am currently using the following piece of
With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("tytwprods_v_lytwprods_(abs)")
.Orientation = xlDataField
.NumberFormat = "#,##0"
.Function = xlSum
.Caption = "Products 2007-08"
However, I need to do this many times and it is a bit painful. I have created a spreadsheet with concatenated fields to create the above, although on one line which isn't liked by VB.
How can I make my code work but with it all on one line like:
With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("tytwprods_v_lytwprods_(abs)").Orientation = xlDataField .NumberFormat = "#,##0" .Function = xlSum .Caption = "Products 2007-08"
not compatible with older versions of Excel? When I try and open my workbook on an older version (2000 and below) I get a runtime error and it highlights this. What's weird is that even when I open the it at home I get this and I have 2003 at home.

I need to determine the entry associated with Accountant. The formula below determines if the entry Accountant exists and if so, displays 14 characters of information starting after the 12th character. The entry after "Accountant" is variable, but will have a carriage return at the end of the line. How can I identify the placement of the carriage return after the Accountant: entry?

A cell contains the name, tel number and address of a user. Those 3 fields are separated by a carriage return (alt+enter) in the cell. I need a macro to keep only the name, which is on the first line of the cell. The macro should be generic and should work for any particular name.

I have rows of data in one column. I want to combine them all into one cell and have each row on a new line.
I've tried =A1 & char(10) & A2, (and a bunch of other char(#s) for carriage return) but it just shows an open box in place of the char().
I've written this code:
=IF(((BP3="1")*AND(C3="Visit")),"The following code rule is being tested: "&D3&". This test is for the Family Practice specialty.","")
What I need to do is insert a carriage return/line feed right before the first & sign so that it is easier to read.
I am looking for some assistance in creating a macro that would allow me with one key stroke to enter a cell in edit mode, add a carriage return to the end of text in the cell, then move the cursor to the next cell.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow would I concatenate a large range of cells, most of which are blank, and add a comma between each cell's value? My range is E2:Y2 (I will be filling down), but most of the cells are blank. For example, if I F2=9, I2=11 and X=25, I would like to display them as: 9,11,25. If in the next row, G=10, K=15 and Y=27, they should look like this: 10,15,27.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to concatenate the two columns in the file I've attached as a string of text that I can copy to another sheet. The second column in the file attached will be a vlookup from another sheet. However as shown in the file, I'd like to ignore blank cells and only concatenate if they have data in them.

I'm trying to use the 'speaking cells' utility. Unfortunately, it seems to require a manual carriage return - I have tried offsetting and I have tried this (below), but to no avail:
Sub speak()
Range("A1") = "YES"
ActiveCell = vbCr
End Sub
I have copied the following codes to create a Function of "Concatenate a Range Skip Blanks". However, I humbly seek help to add "," in between every word and also take away the empty space when there is only 2 words are concatenated. Pls refer to my attachement for easy understanding.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf I write a multi-line text in a cell (then go down with alt+enter) and after copy the cell pasting on Notepad, it display before inverted commas and after textual content.
Instead, if I select directly the content from the formula bar, it isn't happen.
Do exist a way for copy and paste directly from the cell without select from the formula bar?
Maybe with a macro?
=IF(Z2="","",Z2&","&IF(AA2="","",AA2&",")&IF(AB2="","",AB2&",")&IF(AC2="","",AC2&","))
I'm using the above formula to join text from columns Z through AC, separated by a comma. I now want to remove the comma at the end of the new string. Also, I would prefer it if the four cells were separated by a slash rather than a comma, but when I simply replace the commas in the formula with slashes I get an error.
Data is in a horizantal list, say row 2:
A2: SAM
B2:
C2: MARY
D2: JOE
E2:
F2: DAViD
i.e. like this:
SAM-blank-MARY-JOE-blank-DAVID
I am looking for formulas (not VBA) to compact this list by removing the blanks so the new will be placed in K2, L2, M2 etc. as follows:
SAM-MARY-JOE-DAVID
This is a good article but only works on vertical lists:

View 8 Replies View RelatedI need a macro that will take the values that are in the far right cells and move them to an area on the left. the columns they will be pulling from are the IU & IV column starting with row 2 down to row 460. from there I need the values to be pasted into the D & E Columns starting at row 6. The two columns IU & IV are a date and a task for that date. When they are pasted into the columns D&E they will need to be sorted by dates (or just all of the blanks removed), with the soonest occurrence at the top. The reason for pasting values is because I have formulas pulling the tasks and dates off of another sheet. The last thing is that the macro needs to be triggered by the information in cell c2, when that cell is changed the formulas go to work and everything in cells IU & IV update. That is when I would like the macro to kick in and work the miracle.
I have been trying to build a colony of formulas that could do it, but I have given up, then I tried to make an array index it for me, but that wasn't working for me either.
I currently have a spreadsheet that contains about 1700 lines of data related to ~400 different clients which I am looking to consolidate.
The data is currently in this format (a set like this repeated ~400 times with anywhere between 3 and 7 services):
Company ID #
Company Name
Service1
Company ID #
Company Name
Service2
Company ID #
Company Name
Service3
I would like to have the data in this format (one row per company with all of the services in the third column concatenated into a single cell, all while removing the duplicate rows.)
Company ID #
Company Name
Service1, Service2, Service3
How to create the code (or describe the process) necessary to do this?
I would like to be able to make the same thing and select items for my drop down list, that are not blak and follow a specific condition. But I don't know how to include the condition in the array formula.
The condition I need is follow:
I want to have a dropdown list with Items that are not blank, and First N > Last N.

It would be preferred to have formulas.
Some code that will remove blank cells from across five columns (A:E) so that after running code all data in each column moves to the top of sheet?
