way to copy certain cell ranges from a main table into a different sheet (for nicer printing output, as in the main table there are also unused ranges) and in such a way that they would be copied there one after the other with no spaces between them.
( I have say A1:M1 with some cells for labels,
then A2:M4 with a smaller table with some user choices etc. etc.
then again A5:M5 with cells for labels
and A6:M8 with another smaller table with user choices... )
multiply by 2x
Then I want to copy just those ranges that the User has selected something in - e.g. only A1:M4, if he selected something in A2
or A5:M8, if he has selected something in A6
I am copying a large sheet into a spread sheet. The problem is one of the columns contain numbers with some cells having an asterisk at the end of the number. This causes problems with the formulas on other sheets that use this data. Can I use a formula or what is the best way to eliminate the "*".
I have a spreadsheet with 2 worksheets. On the first "active parts" I have a list of active part numbers and on the second "All Parts" I have all of the parts available.
I want to compare every part in the All Parts worksheet to see if the part number exists on the Active Parts sheet - if it's there, I would like it to return the value "Active" in column B in All Parts. I have a formula in column B in All Parts that seems to work for the first few, but as soon as it finds one that is active, the rest of the cells below all return "Active".
I have a cell located in $X$1 that is always populated with a person's full name. I need to display their email address, which is the first letter of their first name then their last name + '@company.com', in another cell on Sheet2
So for example 'Bob Smith' would be 'email@example.com'
How can I go into cell X1 of Sheet1 and copy the first letter & the remaining letters after the space in between the names and paste them into Sheet2?
I'm trying to copy a certain cell range from a particular row of a pivot table to another sheet, in a loop but I do not successfully do the paste. There's no error, just no data gets pasted.
In my code currently i have:
Code: Set Report = ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Report") Set Pivot = ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Pivot").PivotTables(1) dim size = Pivot.TableRange2.Rows.Count for i =2 to size -1 Set currentRow = Pivot.TableRange2.Rows(i) currentRow.Range(currentRow.Cells(1, 2), currentRow.Cells(1, 7)).Copy Sheets("Report").Activate ActiveSheet.Range("C" & 4 + i & ":H" & 4+ i).Select Selection.Paste next
Now, what does work if i select and paste the whole pivot row, but i don't want this. I've tried also with just referencing the Pivot table cells but also pasted nothing.
The idea is that I start out with a number of XML files, which I'm trying to manipulate to calculate descriptives and make graphs of in Excel.
So I've made a large "script" in VBA to accomplish these goals, which works, but I'm trying to optimize the code step by step. The overall process that I want to achieve, consists of :
1) Open the XML in Excel as an XML Table
2) Use the filters in the top row of that XML Table to select the data that I want to use
3) The resulting selection consists of data in 6 columns of which I only wish to select column 2, 5 and 6
4) I only wish to select the data in the table of column 2, 5 and 6 (without the header and only the cells in the table) and copy
5) Last step is to paste this data in Sheet "Calculations"
The step I'm working on right now, is step 3-4. My current code is: [Code] ......
This does the job, but I'm trying to optimize it, since I'm handling tons of XML files and I'm performing this copy function a number of times per XML file.
This copies the data of all the columns in the table for the cases that meet the selected criteria, but I'd like to make an even stricter selection of only column 2, 5 and 6 to not waste space and processing power.
So I tried to select the data from the 3 columns and combine them with the Union function, to copy them as one array to the sheet Calculations.
Optimized a similar VBA code to: [Code] ........
But I'm having issues with getting the right selection method and when I run the macro, I get the error message that the Copy and Paste area aren't the same size.
I tried to alter my initial code to something in the line of : [Code] ..........
But I get error messages 1004 : Method 'Range' of Object '_Global' failed.
I've also tried [Code] ........
But this seems to select the whole column, including the header and tons of rows even after the table ended.
I have a user that uses pivot tables and charts every month to do a report. He wants to copy his charts every month and then just change the month in the data for the pivot table, but not matter what he tries its tied to the previous month and then chart data range in the select data source properties is grayed out. how to get this to work?
I noticed that when I click on a cell in my Pivot Table a new worksheet pops up with the requested information (essentially a filtered version of my data source depending on what cell I clicked) is there a way for that information to appear on the same worksheet as my Pivot Table? And if so can I also edit what parts of the data source appear?
I have a document needed to be printed with some pages in the middle in landscape page type, the rest in portrait. If using Word it would be easier, but in Excel I cant find the section break to chage page setup separately. Is there anyway to do it. Currently I'm printing the document separately in portrait and then landscape with some page break added and page number modified. However it's quite troublesome and easy to make mistake.
I am going to use Excel sheets as computer exam forms. What I need to know is: Is there a way of protecting parts of an excel worksheet from alteration? I want a sheet that will accept answers in specific areas only, and will not accept entries or alterations in other areas.
I have many excel sheets with 1000 columns and 100,000 rows. I have to import these sheets into SAS system which wont let me import more than 250 columns per sheet (it misses the remaining columns, though rows it can import all of them). So, one solution is break each such sheets into 4 individual sheets. Ofcourse I can manually take the cursor to 250th column and copy/paste that data into another sheet and so on. But this is cumbersome and also means there is chance of mistake.
Is there a way I can divide the sheets into 4 sheets separately with each sheet having equal number of columns? Another thing I need to do is that on the top row there are company codes -most of them start with a letter which is fine. There are few which start with a number and I have to add a dummy letter x before the number. Now since there are 1000 columns, I have to scan the top row of all 1000 columns to find number codes which are scattered unevenly. So I was wondering if there is a way to tell excel to change all such number codes with extra x behind each number?
I want to copy the current region on sheet 3 and paste that into sheet2 starting with cell E4. But I don't want to actually use the copy method. I believe there is a way to do this. I was thinking the following:
The idea I had was to simply state that cell E4 would be assigned the value of CurrentRegion on sheet 3. Is there a way to bypass the copy method?
I have 3 columns thousands of rows each, P, Q and R. Column R is the names of accounts.
I have another column E with also account names but not in same order as R. Another small glitch is, some of the names in R have extra characters at the end (such as one or more spaces bars, etc). But the entirety of the text in E is present in a cell in R, sometimes with extra characters at the end.
I want to match the account names and pull the corresponding values in the same row from columns P and Q, and populate my currently empty columns C and D.
I am trying to do is create a list from a large table (see attached). I have 2 columns (A and B) listing 'Asset' and 'Area' and then 2 rows (1 and 2) listing 'type of task' and 'task'. This forms a table with entries in the cells (from C3 onwards) denoting frequency of each task at each location, i.e. daily, monthly, 6 monthly and annual. This gives me quite a large table which is quite confusing. Can I create a formula to sort all the daily activities which will give me a list of the 4 corresponding properties 'country', 'location' (in columns A and B) and 'type of task', 'task' (in Rows 1 and 2)? Then do the same for the different frequencies populated in the table, 'monthly', '6 monthly' and 'annual' ???
I'm having an issue where I want to merge lots of tables held in different spreadsheets into one large table so that I can use it in a pivot table. The attached spreadsheet demonstrates what I mean:
So there are 3 different accounts held in the first 3 tabs. These all have the same columns and format. I want to merge these automatically into the table that is in tab 4 so that I can use the pivot table also demonstrated in this tab.
What I want to happen is when I add rows to the tables in the first 3 tabs, these are automatically populated onto the 'overall' table in the 4th tab. (I'm aware I could do this manually, but for what I'm using this for these will be dozens of tables with hundreds of rows updated monthly).
Is this possible? Basically it doesn't matter how it's done, as long as i can show the information held in the pivot table each month end.
My pivot table file is currently 12.7 MB and I need to get it much smaller so I can email it and it still be functional with the data.
I have tried right clicking on the pivot table, going to PivotTable Options, clicking on the data tab, unchecking the 'save source data with file' box, and checking the 'refresh data when opening file' box. This shrunk the file perfectly but when i email the file the Pivot Table was unusable because there was no data to back up the function.
The Error messages I got were 'Cannot open PivotTable source file'..... and 'Pivot Table report was saved without the underlying data. Use the Refresh Data command to update the report'. When I click on Refresh Data I still get the same error message.
Any way I can make this File smaller and still functional.
I have a data dump, on this single excel sheet their are a large number of tables, up to 100 in all, and what i need to do is extract key figures to form a summary table which i then produce stats for.
What i need is a macro or code that will automatically scan the tables, retrieve the key figures and return them in my summary table.
Attached is an example, you will see three small tables labelled Servicing query complex, servicing query simple and total.
I need to extract the blue cell, being the name of the table, the purple cell being the last figure in column c in each table (total number or processes) and the green figure being the the average turnaround. The final figure is i think the hardest to get as its the total number of figures in column c that have either a 0 or a 1 in Colum A. Note that their will be table where neither 0 or 1 will appear.
All figures are dummy figures but the table structure is correct.
if there was a way I can put it in to some kind of pivot table, because the hardest part for people when they read his list is it's so large it's hard to find data easily.
So this is how he formatted his data... I was wondering what would be the best way to get this list in to a possible pivot table. This is a consilidated example, there are plenty more columns, but this will give you an idea of my problem.
A2007 A2006 A2006 B2006 B2006 B2007 Feb Jan Feb Jan Feb Jan 630 Labor Cost 1000 7500 3000 4500 800 5000 624 Equipment Cost 900 50 40 300 20 1400
Now, the only thing I can think of is to make columns, but then I'd have to recopy all the task names (which there is about 700) for each of the different years (A= Actual, B= Budget, F= Forecast). Is there any other way that you can think of to do this with out making it so complicated? Any help or suggestions would be great. I really want some format that allows you to click the total and it goes to what makes up that total.
I want to do a loop where you can copy say A3 worksheet 1 then add another sheet naming the work sheet "A3" then copying A3 worksheet 1 to A1 "A3". After that looping to A4 to a new work sheet naming the work sheet "A4"copying the value to A1 "A4", etc...
Is there a simply way of doing this loop? I can probably fit my other coding into the structure.
I have sheets with names of people in columns....some married...some not. When they are married, here's a sample format...
Jones, Donald T | Baker, Sarah Jane | Jones, Sarah Jane | Smith, Sarah J | Jones, Sarah Jane Smith
In this example, I would like to be able to determine which of the Sarah's belongs to Donald w/o having to visually look at each record ( 100,000's of records). (FYI: the names for Sarah would/could be her Maiden Name and possibly a name or two from a former marriage). What I need to be able to do is match and extract the names of Jones, Donald T and Jones, Sarah Jane and Jones, Sarah Jane Smith and eliminate Smith, Sarah J and Baker, Sarah Jane.
In my example, Donald is in the first column, but can be in any column on a row so the name positions are random across the columns. However, the format for each column is then same...Last Name, First Name Middle Name(or Initial) with a comma always after the last name in each column. The length of the last name also varies.
VBA or Formula that will search the cells in the columns of each row and return the names (complete contents of the cells with matching last names) that have a matching last name for that row.
I have 2 large XLS sheets that need to be split into seperate sheets.
The first is only 5 columns wide but the amount of rows changes day to day.
The second is a maximum of 7 columns wide and again the amount of rows will change.
I'm hoping for a VBA code to be able to do both on seperate books.
The A Column has the name of the company, and this can include (/,&) that will need to be removed, the names can also exceed 31 characters. I would like to seperate the sheets by the company name and have the name appear as the sheet name.
Also the formatting from the master sheet to be copied to the resulting sheets, with a header row.
I have included the data for the larger of the two workbooks. data.jpg I have to pull the smaller report each day and the larger report each week.
I'm trying to count how many production orders i have per week. However, there are duplicated production orders per week. I only want to count how many unique orders there are for each week. I only see the ability to "Count", which counts my duplicates as well so it over inflates my true quantity.
I have a lot of data to try and summarize but they are in multiple smaller tables. I wish to only extract 2 variables, 'number' and 'total' from all of my smaller tables (lots of them) so the problem looks like this, i have these tables for example where the 'total' title is in a different column depending on which of the smaller tables you are looking at:
cat 1 cat 2 cat 3 total
I am trying to get:
number Total 123456 30 234567 60
Because the number column is fixed and all of the smaller tables will all have a number in the same column maybe i can insert a column next to the number column and say "find the value where the column title is 'total' - however the location of the column title would change so not sure if this would work? I was also thinking of sorting the columns but that will not work either because of the smaller multiple tables?
I've been working on a macro that makes copies of a template sheet based on a table in my Opps sheet. If column B isn't empty, make a copy of the template sheet, rename it to Opps column A, and then hyperlink column A's current A.row to the newly copied and renamed sheet.
I'm not sure what is wrong exactly, it keeps making duplicate Template(x) and stops renaming them, and the hyperlinks are not working. -This is my first go at VBA hyperlinks to internal workbook sheets
I currently have a workbook with 6 sheets, the main worksheet has roughly 10000 rows rows (with is the one Im having trouble with) up until a few days ago scrolling wasnt to bad but just recently it is really struggling to scroll (no changes to workbook)
I have a quad core Q6600 4GB ram plenty of HDD space the excel doc size is 2.8MB
is there anything I can do to improve scrolling on large spreadsheets?
