Lookup Function: Compare Every Part In The All Parts Worksheet To See If The Part Number Exists On The Active Parts Sheet
Dec 10, 2008
I have a spreadsheet with 2 worksheets. On the first "active parts" I have a list of active part numbers and on the second "All Parts" I have all of the parts available.
I want to compare every part in the All Parts worksheet to see if the part number exists on the Active Parts sheet - if it's there, I would like it to return the value "Active" in column B in All Parts. I have a formula in column B in All Parts that seems to work for the first few, but as soon as it finds one that is active, the rest of the cells below all return "Active".
I am trying to create a calculator in excel that has five parts. I want to manipulate each part based on the other parts. I cannot figure out how to remove the formula and replace it with the derived number without a circular reference. The circular references slow down the main macros of my program.
I have a document needed to be printed with some pages in the middle in landscape page type, the rest in portrait. If using Word it would be easier, but in Excel I cant find the section break to chage page setup separately. Is there anyway to do it. Currently I'm printing the document separately in portrait and then landscape with some page break added and page number modified. However it's quite troublesome and easy to make mistake.
so this gives a part number depending on what number is placed in O6. What I need to do know is look at 2 different cells and for each combination of numbers give a different part number. so if A1 is 2 and B1 is 3 give a certain result.
I have a USB scanner connected to a PC. Data is entered into Excel when the part number barcode on a box is scanned. I have two worksheets that I will be scanning part numbers into, one is Group A and the other is Group B. On Group A's sheet there is a list of Group B part numbers that will be used for the lookup procedure when the barcode is scanned. The same is true for Group B's sheet. The groups should never be mixed, so if part number "B005" is scanned into Group A's sheet it should cause an error message to pop up. I've attached a workbook as an example. Is it possible to do this with VBA?
I have sheets with names of people in columns....some married...some not. When they are married, here's a sample format...
Jones, Donald T | Baker, Sarah Jane | Jones, Sarah Jane | Smith, Sarah J | Jones, Sarah Jane Smith
In this example, I would like to be able to determine which of the Sarah's belongs to Donald w/o having to visually look at each record ( 100,000's of records). (FYI: the names for Sarah would/could be her Maiden Name and possibly a name or two from a former marriage). What I need to be able to do is match and extract the names of Jones, Donald T and Jones, Sarah Jane and Jones, Sarah Jane Smith and eliminate Smith, Sarah J and Baker, Sarah Jane.
In my example, Donald is in the first column, but can be in any column on a row so the name positions are random across the columns. However, the format for each column is then same...Last Name, First Name Middle Name(or Initial) with a comma always after the last name in each column. The length of the last name also varies.
VBA or Formula that will search the cells in the columns of each row and return the names (complete contents of the cells with matching last names) that have a matching last name for that row.
First, ignore the colored portions. This is how I kept track of what I had completed in the form as I created it. Clients attend class once a week and would be marked present on the corresponding day of class. This increases column #3 "classes attended" to "1". What I would like is for my individual classes sheet to reset every Monday (as the date of the report on top) but for the "5groups" worksheet to keep count of the classes attended. Does that make sense? Please, any imput would REALLY be appreciated.
Is it possible to separate the parts of a mixed number? I have a cell in which is generated a decimal number. I can convert this to a mixed number. What I need to do from there is extract the whole number and the numerator.
I am having some difficulty with a macro. I have a column that contains a series of inventory numbers. I need to break it up into three parts and then have each part put into a new column. Here is an example of the data:
Column B = list of inv no.’s such as “ABC123.45” I need to divide it into three parts and put each part into a new column … so a new column X would get the “ABC” part, a new column Y would get the “123” section, and a new column Z would get the “45” ** ( I don’t need the decimal between 123 and 45) .
I am going to use Excel sheets as computer exam forms. What I need to know is: Is there a way of protecting parts of an excel worksheet from alteration? I want a sheet that will accept answers in specific areas only, and will not accept entries or alterations in other areas.
I am trying to do is have a worksheet that gets its information from other worksheets within the same workbook. Some of the worksheets that it gets its data from are web queries, and as such change on occasion (columns stay the same but rows get inserted or deleted as data on the web page that it is importing changes). Also due to this being an import I can not change directly the format that comes onto the sheets (ig split into different columns etc). Much easier described within the example as I am not sure of the words to best describe the end result I am looking for. A copy of a smaller version of what I am doing is attached
What I am trying to do is automatically move the date received and the total qty received from the Rcvg. Log sheet to the RFMs Release sheet.
The problem is:
1) I don't know what I'm doing
2) On the Rcvg. Log several part numbers that are the same with different Qtys.
3) on the Rcvg. Log the are several part numbers that are the same using different programs.
What I would like to do is combine all the same part numbers with the same program add the total Qty received and paste the date received and total Qty into the RFMs Release sheet in the proper part numbers row.
Is this possible?
Attached is a shortened copy of the spreadsheet normally there about 3000 entries.
I have many excel sheets with 1000 columns and 100,000 rows. I have to import these sheets into SAS system which wont let me import more than 250 columns per sheet (it misses the remaining columns, though rows it can import all of them). So, one solution is break each such sheets into 4 individual sheets. Ofcourse I can manually take the cursor to 250th column and copy/paste that data into another sheet and so on. But this is cumbersome and also means there is chance of mistake.
Is there a way I can divide the sheets into 4 sheets separately with each sheet having equal number of columns? Another thing I need to do is that on the top row there are company codes -most of them start with a letter which is fine. There are few which start with a number and I have to add a dummy letter x before the number. Now since there are 1000 columns, I have to scan the top row of all 1000 columns to find number codes which are scattered unevenly. So I was wondering if there is a way to tell excel to change all such number codes with extra x behind each number?
way to copy certain cell ranges from a main table into a different sheet (for nicer printing output, as in the main table there are also unused ranges) and in such a way that they would be copied there one after the other with no spaces between them.
( I have say A1:M1 with some cells for labels, then A2:M4 with a smaller table with some user choices etc. etc.
then again A5:M5 with cells for labels and A6:M8 with another smaller table with user choices... ) multiply by 2x
Then I want to copy just those ranges that the User has selected something in - e.g. only A1:M4, if he selected something in A2 or A5:M8, if he has selected something in A6
Also I have a Userform with 2 ComboBoxes named "ComboBox1" and "ComboBox2". Values in ComboBox1 is "Pull my pants", "Eat my shorts", "Socks for everyone".
What I would like to do is to search though column A and look for any of these textstrings in my selection in ComboBox1 and return the value from column B in column C.
Example: "Pull my pants" is selected in ComboBox1 then the value "pants" should be found in column A and value in column B (25) should be entered in cell C2.
I am fairly new to VBA and have spend hours searching Google and found some formulas like InStr and VLookup. My problem is that I am not sure if these statements will do the job and how to combine them.
i have two columns in my worksheet A and B. Now col. A contains of words and column B contains of long strings. I want to make those parts of col. B which match to the content of A.
I want to create a user defined function to search a column of data for a part number.
If it exists I want to have a the UDf returna "fail" otherwise "pass"
Here is the code I was trying to use
Function firstpass(SN As String) As String ws = Worksheets("Defects") c = "" With ws.Range("a1:a9999") Set c = .Find(SN, LookIn:=xlValues, lookat:=xlWhole) End With If Not c Is Nothing Then firstpass = "Pass" Else firstpass = "Fail" End If
End Function
This function only returns a "#value" and I don't quite know how to troubleshoot it.
I have 2 sheets in a file. One is given to me from our parts department containing all parts on a given truck model. The 2nd sheet is exported as a database file from inventor and imported as an update able sheet in excel.
I am needed to compare part numbers between the 2 sheets and the qty of each. So far I have it where it matches the part numbers and turns the ones I don't have in the model red. Now I'm trying to match the part numbers and pull the qty of said part from sheet 2, the imported one, and compare it to the to the qty in the 1st. All I really need to accomplish is matching the part numbers then copying the qty from sheet 2 to sheet 1 onto a new cell of the matched part number.
Is there any way to remove the first part of a string of text in a cell and save the second part?
The first part of the text string is a team code that has a variable number of numbers, capital letters and sometimes spaces. The second part of the text string is a variable number of words in a team name that all start with a capital letter and have lower case letters. Every line has a different team code and team name.
The original spreadsheet also has a column with just team code. Is there a way of using this column to "subtract" the team code from the text string to just leave the team name?
I have a question regarding searching in cells for a value, and returning corresponding data. This is what my workbook looks like:
Sheet1, cell A1 contains value "D600" Sheet1, cell A2 contains value "V-1234" Sheet1, cell A3 contains value "DB23"
Sheet1, cell B1 empty Sheet1, cell B2 empty Sheet1, cell B3 empty .......................... 1. search each cell value form Sheet1 column A, in Sheet2 column B 2. when a match is found, return the corresponding value of column A from Sheet2....
I have a spreadsheet in excel with lots of rows. In column A I have some descriptions such as:
British Pound Danish Krone Japanese Yen
I have created another spreadsheet 2 columns that would have something like: column A/columnB British/Yes Danish/No Japananese/Yes
This 2nd spreadsheet can grow and have more lines. In column Z of the 1st spreadsheet, I want a formula to look at the second spreadsheet and if any word in the column A of the 1st spreadsheet matches the word in column A of the second spreadsheet, I want it to the value in column B of the second spreadsheet.
In my financial modelling I often have a calculated number of months of inventory. This number varies. I need to use this number to calculate the actual inventory value. For eg. it may be 3.2 months of inventory; in this case I need to sum 3 cells (current month, current month -1, current month -2) plus 0.2 of the fourth cell (current month -3)
But I may need to change the number of months of inventory to, for example, 4.2. In this case I would need the sum of four cells plus 0.2 of the fifth cell etc etc.
I have 2 basic parts to a Macro which need to be separated by a pause of 1 second, before proceeding to the next part of the macro. Then pause for 1 second, and loop.
Application.Wait is no good to me as the spreadsheet must remain live, editable, and receiving updates from an external program linked via DDE. Below is the ...
I'm trying to create a lookup process for my address part of my invoice, I want it so when I enter the first address it automatically looks up and enters the rest of the information (Title, Name etc.) I've been trying to do this with vlookup and I can't seem to get it to work. I'm just getting #Ref! returned.
My address 'database' (list of addresses etc) are on a seperate sheet to the Invoice.
We have the following formula in our timesheets. Basically when we enter a Job number in one cell in say Tab1, it will return the matching project name in a different cell that we have next to the project number. The job number match is done in the tab named "ProjectSchedule", where all the details of the project are listed. We need to extend the match range to include another tab named "CustomSchedule", but I can't figure out how to make the first formula search jobs from both tabs.
In column A i will be entering Jobs in the format : 'Customer1 Job4', 'Customer 5 Job 4'. In column B i would liek to identify the jobs automatically, so a formula that goes something like : IF(colum A contains "Job 2", "Job 2",If (Column A contains "Job 3","Job 3","")). There are only about 6 jobs but there could be many customers.
