"Countif" Function Stored As Variable In Macro?

Feb 2, 2009

Is it possible to use a "countif" function as part of a macro?

Here's the situation. In workbook "A", I want to look at a range of cells ("O19:O248") and count the number of times "apple" appears within that range. If "apple" appears 20 times, I would like the variable v_applecount to = 20 so that I can call that variable in workbook "B"

Note, I essentially want to do something like this in the Macro:

v_applecount = CountIf(O19:O248, "Apple")

How To Use A Variable In The Countif Function

May 19, 2014

Is it possible to use a variable in Countif?

See attached sheet. When a number repeats for the 3rd time, I need to reset the
Countif function.

For example;

Countif($A$5:A20,A20).

I need to change the $A$5 to the current row number so we can start the count again. I need to do this several times during the sheet.

We are counting numbers until they repeat for a 3rd time and then we start the count again at that point.

Countif Function For Counting Values Based On More Then 1 Variable

I'm trying to make a spreadsheet that will count the number of times a certain incident occurs, for a particular person, for a particular month. The attached spreadsheet is an example of what I need done.

For the attached spreadsheet, I need to find out how many times x employee has been late for x month, and how many times they've been late overall.

You can see one of the many tries I've attempted in the second sheet, but it doesn't seem to want to work. I have to be able to do this without VBA, because of signature issues.

Correct Syntax To Add Workbook Name That Is Stored In Variable Into Formula?

Feb 24, 2014

I have the following code, which executes just fine:

[Code].....

The problem is that I need to run this again in a different column, and the data is held in another sheet that I have given the variable StepTwo to.

I'm not sure of the syntax to do this. Basically - this is what I need the code to do:

[Code] ....

Understandably this is totally incorrect, but it's the best I can do to explain what I'm actually trying to do....

The two parts of SUMIF are both held in a workbook that I've given the variable "StepTwo" to. Both sets of data are also held on Sheet(1) of that workbook.

Countif Function In A Macro: SUM And COUNTA Works

Jan 27, 2009

I'm using the SUM, COUNTA and COUNTIF functions in a macro. The SUM and COUNTA works but the COUNTIF function does not return results.

Sub B_Test()
Dim myRange
Dim Results
Dim Run As Long
myRange = Workbooks(1).Worksheets("Master").Range("S6", Range("S6").End(xlDown))
Range("M3") = Application.WorksheetFunction.Sum(myRange)
myRange = Workbooks(1).Worksheets("Master").Range("D6", Range("D6").End(xlDown))
Range("D3") = Application.WorksheetFunction.CountA(myRange)
End Sub

I have tried countless ways to rewrite the COUNTIF line with no results or compiler errors returned. Originally had problems with the SUM and COUNTIF function and found that column formating was the problem. After clearing all column formats, the SUM function promptly began working but the COUNTIF keeps eluding all my efforts. The column which the COUNTIF is pointed to contains values of 0 to 500. Only values greater than 0 are to be counted.

Use Private Sub Function To Store Clicked Cell As Variable For Use In Macro?

Apr 20, 2013

I have a spreadsheet with near 300 tabs, each with a picture in the tab. The main tab has a list of all other tabs, the goal is to allow the user to click on a cell next to an entry, and have Excel flash the referenced tab to allow the user to see what the entry is referencing. I have written a simple macro that activates a desired tab, unhides it, displays a message box to pause the macro, rehides the tab, then returns the user to the main tab.

Rather than creating a macro for all 300 tabs and creating buttons I would love to use the Private Sub Worksheet_SelectionChange(ByBal Target As Range) or some variation thereof, to make my life much easier. The name of the tab is in cell A2, so I would want to have the user click on cell A1, activate the macro, then take A1 to A2 with something like A1 = A(x+1)->A2, then display the tab listed in A2. So rather than have 300 macros with Sheets("XYZ").Visible = True, I would love it to read Sheets(contents of referenced cell).Visible = True. with the contents of referenced cell coming from some manipulation of the cell I clicked on...

Macro Code To Add Sum Formula/Function, With Variable Rows, To Cell

May 29, 2008

I am having to copy and paste rows of data into a new worksheet where the rows sizes change and I am wanting to add a new row at the end of the pasted rows but with the sumation formula to add the relevant column

e.g copy range B14:AA17 with in this case columns E to AA holding the numerical values. Therefore I wish in cell E18 to sum the value of E14:E17 and so on ending with cell AA18 holding the sum of AA14:AA17

As these vary I have all relevant variables, Range to add sumation values to eg E18:AA18
Start Cell E14 and so on.

I tried adding "=SUM(x:d)" where x and d are vars relating the the column cell required eg x = E14 and d = E17

Macro Works Stored In File But Not In Personal Folder

Use CountIf To Use As Variable To Determine How Far To Paste Down In VBA

Jun 11, 2014

I would like to be able to count the number of rows with data and use it in a macro. For instance, Columns A:C and Rows 1:50 or more have data (the number of rows are variable). In Cell D1 I have a simple formula

Code:
=A1&","&B1&","&C1

I am using a formula in VBA like:

Code:
Range("D2").Select
Selection.Copy
Range("D3:D10000").Select
ActiveSheet.Paste

I don't want to have an arbitrary number like D10000 in the range because it will paste in cells even if there is nothing there resulting in a ,, in the cell. I know this is avoidable by wrapping in a

Code:
=IF(ISBLANK(A1)=TRUE,"",D1)

but the "" is not truly blank and jacks up the sorting.

If there is a better way by setting the row count to a variable like

Code:
countx=COUNTIF(A:A)

and then using it in the selection such as:

Code:
Range("D2").Select
Selection.Copy
Range("D3:countx").Select
ActiveSheet.Paste

Am I going out about this wrong, maybe missing something fundamental about this?

COUNTIF Function After SUBSTITUTE Function

Jan 3, 2012

I am using COUNTIF functions with Defined Name lists to quickly determine if a certain number is on a list. As a backdrop, I am using Chemical Abstract Service (CAS) numbers and attempting to somewhat streamline chemical approval for a small company. CAS numbers are often in the format of XX-XX-X with varied amounts of numbers. One of the defined lists however does not have dashes.

Thus, I am using cell B1 to enter the CAS# once and then for each list having a column to itself with an associated worksheet with a defined name list. Most of the columns have the function =B1 with the conditional formatting of =COUNTIF(definedname,BX) and formatted to turn red if the chemical is on the list. This is working for all of the columns except for the list that needs the dashes removed. For instance, CAS 64-67-1 is put in B1 and cell B5 has the formula =SUBSTITUTE(B1,"-","") which brings the number to 64671 which matches the number in my defined name list. However, the cell will not turn red. What am I missing?

Using Countif Function For Certain Array

May 2, 2014

I want to use the countif function for a certain array. The range is set by another cell which is made up out of a percentile of an entire row.

The problem is is that excel doesn't see the value it displays so i continuously get a value of 0 in the countif cell. If i fill in the range by hand, which is exactly the same range as the outcome of the percentile the countif cell does give the correct value.

So in short the problem is i guess that the countif cell does not recognize the value because this value is made up by a formula.
