Macro Will Not Work To Process Files Stored On Network Drive?
Aug 1, 2014
I have a macro that works just find on my local machine. but it need to run from a network drive as several different people may need to access it.
A brief description of the macro.
The macro looks in an directory called unprocessed for any file named "*.csv" if the files are found it opens the file in excel and then copies data from that workbook to my workbook. after this the .csv file is closed (unchanged) and then it is moved to the processed directory.
Sub files()
Dim directory As String, filename As String, sheet As Worksheet, i As Integer, j As Integer
Dim filetype As String
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
[Code].....

I am having trouble creating a hyperlink to a place in the current document for a file stored on a network drive. My workbook has a lot of sheets (50 or so), so I created a 'Navigation' sheet that contains hyperlinks to all the worksheets located therein, and pasted a link back to the Navigation sheet in cell A1 on every tab.
Setting up these Navigation sheets has never a problem until I started posting the file on a network drive. As soon as I did that, I noticed that the internal hyperlinks on all sheets in the workbook would stop working after I closed the file in Excel. Note that this network drive is not set as a drive letter on my computer, and is only accessible by entering the server ip address in Windows Explorer.
An example address the hyper is trying (and failing) to open is: "file:///\ IP ADDRESS sub-folders activefile.xlsm"
I've tried a few options, using the HYPERLINK formula, using the HYPERLINK feature in the Insert ribbon, etc, but all to no avail.

We have a form that is completed by our employees and emailed to a central group email address that up to 8 employees within our team can access. When one of our 8 team members open the file sent they need to add comments to it and then save it in a central directory on one of our network drives.
Now the problem I have is that we all have the network drive mapped to a different letter.
Is there a way that I can have a macro (see below for current macro that does not work) save to a network path and not a drive letter.

If you don't know what the drive letter will be, because on other people's computer it could be different than what you have.
I only have the folder address

I am using the OnTime method to automatically send out a spreadsheet by email at a certain time. I am using Windows task scheduler to start up excel and OnTime to execute the email. I have got this to work on my local drive however I need to save the spreadsheet on a network drive. Task scheduler opens this up still, however OnTime doesn't seem to be working as I have tested it and the email doesn't get sent.

I would like to include code to move or copy various csv files from one computer across a network to other computers.
To date the best I have come up with is a method of running a batch file that executes the action.
Sub moveTKRS()
Call Shell("C:MoveTKRS.bat", vbNormalFocus)
End Sub
I would rather a more direct code that does not require a batch file.

I want a simple VBA code that when run will check if a particular spreadsheet that exists on a Network Drive is already open or not by another user. Imagine there are 3 users A, B & C
The network path for example is : S:Department1TeamAConsolidated Report"
The spreadheet name is : Consolidated Database.xls
If the spreadheet that is on S:Department1TeamAConsolidated ReportConsolidated Database.xls is already open by User A then User B should get a message that "File is already open"
I have the below code which I got from a website which I kind of tweaked but it doesnt work.
Dim WbookCheck As Workbook
On Error Resume Next
Set WbookCheck = Workbooks("Consolidated Database.xls ")[code]......

For example, we reference our network drives like this:

I have a collection of about 200 .xls files in a folder, each contain the same macro. I now need to run this macro in all 200 files and save them but to do this manually will take hours. is there anyway to set excel to batch process a macro in multiple files?? Or maybe i can write a new macro to open up each workbook, run, then save and exit??

Im trying to get my macro to open allow me to select multiple workbooks, then have each workbook open up and copy A2:N2 and down and paste these into my active workbook, under each other, ie on the next available row (basically combining all the workbook data together to create a big list.
The below code works to open a single workbook, copy the data and paste it in at the next available row, but I have to keep running the macro for each workbook whos data I need to import!
How can I modify this code so I can select more than one file? I need something like for each wb .....at the end next wb...until the macro has done the below for all selected workbooks.
VB:
Sub openandcopy()
Dim wb As Workbook
Dim ws As Worksheet
Set ws = ActiveSheet
Set wb = Workbooks.Open(Application.GetOpenFilename)

I currently have a password secured excel file on my departs Q drive, which everyone can access unfortunately only 1 person can edit at a time. I tried to turn it into a workbook so we could all edit it at the same time but now some of the other users can't access the file at our other buildings throughout the county. This is for excel 2010. And I did select the share workbook, and allow multiple users to edit box. everything else is unchanged.

I am currently creating a simple macro to save out files to a specific folder on one of our network drives. Since we will be doing this often I would like to amend the date the the file name saved for sorting/organizational purposes.
Unfortunately I have been running into a few issues, this is what I have tried so far but keep getting a SaveAs error:
Code:
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="vosinsharedClient Implementation TeamDC Tools" &
"Copy DC Conversion WB_2014 " & Format(Date, "yyyymmdd") & ".xlsx", FileFormat:=xlNormal
I have also tried:
Code:
ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:="vosinsharedClient Implementation Team
DC ToolsCopy DC Conversion WB.2014_" & _
Format(Now(), "YYYYMMDDhhmmss") & ".xlsx", FileFormat:=56
But still no avail. I believe it may have something to do with the file format but I am not sure. I am running Excel 2010.

I have designed a macro which consists of a form through it takes the input into excel sheet. The macro is running fine and I dont have any problems with it. The problem I am facing is that after I start running this macro, I am not able to access any other open excel files. Is there any option to make all other excel files available during running a macro?

aFile = Application.GetOpenFilename(FileFilter:="Excel (*.xl*), *.xl*", _

Dim i As Integer
For i = LBound(aFile) to UBound(aFile)
Workbooks(aFile(i)).Activate
'Do something, then repeat with next file in array
Next i

Scenario; I have 3rd party software that pulls reports in .csv files. I want to summarise this data into another spread sheet. Ideally I would like to save these files into a folder on the network and my summary workbook simply looks for this folder and is able to find data within all Excel files saved in there (new files will be added on a monthly basis).
Once it has found the folder there will be 2 pieces of data to evaluate; Cell $B$1; this will be the name of a course (e.g. health & safety, money laundering etc.) Column $D; this will contain the score achieved by multiple learners.
The summary spreadsheet then averages all of the scores for the different courses(in seperate cells)
The idea is that the .csv files can be pulled and saved into said folder and eliminates the need to manually input this data into the summary spreadsheet.

I have two macros one of which imports the data and the other processes the data. These macros were created at different times and need to be joined into a single macro that will combine their operations – with slight modification to the importing macro. Let me describe what each of the macros does:
PROCESS macro:
Cycles through the CONTROL CELL on the “1” tab using the VALUES TO TEST. For each value to test it copies the values form the output tabs and pastes them into the A+B tab. Then it removes the duplicate rows there.
Option Explicit
'======================================
Sub PROCESS() 'This subroutine is called when clicking on the first button
Dim i As Long, j As Long, k As Long 'Those are the variables that will browse through the whole sheets
Dim l As Integer 'this will be used to browse through the values to test
Dim TheSearch(1 To 2) As Object 'This is an array of objects that will be used for the search
Dim TheRange As Range 'This will be used to flag the range of duplicates in the output
'Searching for the Text string 'VALUES To TEST' in the sheet "1" in order to know where the array of values to be tested start
Set TheSearch(1) = Range(Cells(1, 1), Cells(ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count + 10, ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Columns.Count)).Find(What:="VALUES TO TEST", LookIn:=xlValues, Lookat:=xlWhole)

I have created an Add-In and hard-coded the file name assuming that it will be used with a specific file called, let's say, Data_Approval_Project.xls (where Project would change for a praticular Project name, e.g. Data_Approval_Alpha1.xls,
Data_Approval_Beta1.xls). Then I would just need to manually change the path and the file name in the Add-In for a specific user group.
Now I am presented with the case of a " Multiple Project - One User", where the same user will have to work on Alpha1 and Beta1 projects using the same Add-In (which actually accounted only for one of the projects). Is there any easy way to get this fixed?
I was thinking about adding an Input box, asking which project user wants to work on, then write the answer somewhere in the workbook, and find and open the file using something like the "Data_Approval_" & the reply of the input box string command.

I need to know if it's possible to log the process of a series of macros
either to txt file or to a Sheet, (either way won't matter but txt file would be perfect)
For example:
Sub MyMacro1 ()
code
End Sub
Sub MyMacro2 ()
code
End Sub
If this process was logged, then the log file would look something like:
Date Time : Sub MyMacro1
Date Time : End Sub
Date Time : Sub MyMacro2
Date Time : End Sub
But it would be a in text just like a log file.
Is this possible with Excel ?
The reason is because my Workbook is huge and I am forever tweaking and adjusting or fixing and I require reference points.

I need to code an option to overcome the fact that 1 workstation sees all drive letters differently.
I have many macro functions that may refer to "P:My documentsTrucks 2008filename"
However this workstation sees that drive as "T:Trucks 2008filename" and the macro will either not function or cannot find the location to save a copy of action in question.
Can I code an option that will "If filepath not found" ie "P:" go to "T:" etc

Private Sub Workbook_Open()
Call FINAL
End Sub
then the macro 'FINAL' is stored in the 'Modules' section and starts with:
Sub FINAL()
'this part opens the Edit/Links dialog from which the user has to choose the relevant model
Dim Which_financial_model_contains_the_data As String
ActiveWorkbook.ChangeLink Name:= _

As i have a pretty "complex" macro, which takes around 20-30 minutes to do (honestly)....
I was wondering if there was a way to create a progress bar just showing me how many % it has done so for?
Or even tell me which sub routine it is up to? (but % would probably be better)
And preferably a pop-up box one?.. not one on the status bar because i have stuff updated on the status bar already...

I am trying to speed up this macro, ive already tried turning screenupdating and calculation off, but it still takes forever, and I dont understand why.
The code is basically searching for a given string in column E. There are about 9000 lines to my sheet, which shouldnt take more than a 30 seconds to a minute to complete.
Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
Application.Calculation = xlCalculationManual
For MY_ROWS = Range("E12000").End(xlUp).Row To 1 Step -1
If Range("E" & MY_ROWS).Value UserForm1.ComboBox1.Value Then
Range("A" & MY_ROWS & ":E" & MY_ROWS).Delete (xlUp)
End If
Next MY_ROWS
Also anyone know how to add another condition to make the macro stop the delete process at lets say Range("a1:e8")?
