I have a worksheet where a number of the cells have been assigned names. I want to copy these cell names & create a list on another part of the worksheet. Does anyone have some code I could use to achieve this?
View 8 RepliesI have two sheets. Sheet A has a list of folders. This list is updates dynamically every time the sheet is opened. I have another sheet (sheet B) which has a list of all the files in the sub-folders, listed with the folder name at the top of the column and the files within in the column underneath with hyperlinks to them. The goal is to be able to navigate to the folders on sheet A and to click there to go to the column where all the files in that folder are linked to. What I need is a macro that will search a column and for every cell that has text in it and create in the column directly to the right a hyperlink to the appropriate cell in the top row in sheet B that has the same name as the text in the cell on sheet A that it finds. I already have the macros for listing the folders on sheet A and the macro for listing all the files in the sub folders in sheet B and they work fine. The goal is a link list which is dynamic and that recreates itself no matter what I add to the folders.
For instance, let’s say there is a folder timesheets. If I add a sub-folder called
accounting to the folder Sheet A scans then timesheets would be bumped down one spot on the list, so the macro has to look dynamically for the text in the column on sheet A.
Also the addition of the new folder would move the order of the columns on sheet B, since both lists are alphabetical. So the link generation macro would need to search row 1 of Sheet B to find the match for the text in the cell to the left of where the link would be generated and create a link to the top of that column. I’ve looked all through the site and not found something that I can even modify to do what I need.
I have a database output file where one of the columns contains managers names, often more than once. I want to apply an autofilter on manager name and then copy the result to another sheet or sheets. My criteria for the autofilter is a variable pointing to a list of names that at present I maintain by hand; a for-each-next loop then cycles through the names.
What I would like to do, before running the autofilter code, is to create the list of names via code. This would then automatically pickup names that are missing.
The code I have so far is below:

In my mind it should check the names in the unique list against the imported list and add any missing names.
I have a long customer listing, names 5 to 36 characters and several with their location in the name as well as a few common duplicate names. I am trying to produce sheet where the customers name once selected opens in the customers spreadsheet and data can be added/amended for sales etc.The lists are not in alphabetical order as when created a customer number is automatically allocated. My aim is just to type in the first letter of the name and the dropdown appears the customer is selected and their card appears. I have tried data validation, lookup, vlookup, Dropdown and Match/find. they only return the first record found and no sign of any others. Find returned all instances of the letter appearing in every name.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a namd sheet for everyday of the year in a workbook, so jan1 jan2 jan3 etc. I have a stats page which brings together certain pertinent data from those pages, so a formula on the stats page might look like this =sum('jan1'!$m$25:$m$900). What I would like to do is to name each day - jan1 jan2 etc as a named range perhaps date1 date2 etc so that the above formula would then look like =sum(date1!$m$25:$m$900).

I have a lot of dependent lists that need to access names that contain either a - or () or both. I could simply remove the -'s or ()'s using find/replace, but they are required, as they're part of the name. I am aware of this method http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html#Illegal but I have a lot of dependent lists across a sheet, and a VLOOKUP isn't going to work. If there isn't a workaround, are there any allowed characters I could use to replace the -'s and ()'s?

I'm trying to achieve is to write a macro that can search a column of dates then open new worksheets according to the months that are present in the column of dates. What I would really like to do is define the named range in column A as A2 to the last column with a value in column B(B10) which would make the named range in column a A2:A10.

I am attempting to use a named range as my Validation data source but have two questions:
1) It seems when you use a named range as a source the user can enter in any data they want in that cell. I really only want the user restricted to the list I give them. If I enter the list manually in the source box then it works but I really want to use a named range
2) My range is fixed to 10 cells and the user can enter in as many variables as they want (up to ten). When a user clicks on one of the cells that the validation is set to read the range the user has to always scroll to get to the top. When selecting the cell Ecel always defaults to the bottom choice in the list. I want to minimize the VBA because Mac users will be using this and VBA seems to be touchy with macs.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a named range within a sheet. It was pulled across when i performed a move/copy - create copy from another workbook. The name contains characters that cannot be displayed or recognised and so they are displayed as square
symbols. This causes me an issue as i cannot delete the name. Even if i paste the list names, i cannot copy/paste the name as the characters are not recognised. I also tried using a macro to delete all names, which did delete all names, with the exception of this one.
The VB code used was :

I'm using Excel 2010. I have a workbook that has six or seven worksheets in it. Each worksheet has a header row, and then lists of clients at the clinic where I work. The columns are last name, first name, medicaid #, social security #, DOB. We use these lists every month to verify that each client has Medicaid for the month. Therefore, there are also columns with names like April, May, June where we mark yes or no for each client. Some of the worksheets also have information about the clients' guardian, phone number, etc., but not every worksheet has those. (I can't show you the worksheets b/c of federal privacy laws, of course.)
I really, really want a worksheet that's a master list of the data from each of the existing worksheets, and I'd like to keep it synced to the source worksheets. I'd love it if I could also add a column telling me which of the source worksheets the data originally came from.
I've tried a few things to make it happen, but nothing has worked.
I've tried using the Consolidate function built into Excel as well, but that only works with numbers, not text, and it wants to manipulate the numbers instead of just copying them over.
I've found several macros online that should have worked (including one from this site) but that I wasn't able to install to my worksheet. I followed all the steps for installation, and throught it worked, but when I went back to the Excel file to run the macro, the list of available macros remained emptpy.
Is it possible that corporate IT has disabled the ability to install macros? Is there somewhere in Options were I need to go to turn Macros on?
I do not have any code for this as I am unsure if it is possible. I have a list of range names in a column (A) that refer to different sheets and in an adjacent column (B) I have a list of data. Is it possible to write VBA code that will allow me to copy each value in column B to the corresponding cell in the workbook that relates to the range name in column A.

I want to have a macro so that when I run it, it will take the contents of the active cell, insert a name called those contents, and make it refer to the cell 4 to the left of it.
In the spreadsheet, I'd like to be able to click on E2 (sentdate1), create a name called sentdate1, and make its value A2, or =OFFSET('Sentiment'!$A$3,0,0,COUNT('Sentiment'!$A:$A),1). Here's what I have so far.

I am trying to work up a referral tracker for my wife's employer. I have Named Ranges on sheet 2, a running log on sheet 1. I also have a userform that is being populated from the ranges on sheet 2. I have the project mostly functional, except for a feature I would like to add in. I am interested in adding to the named range that is being accessed if the entry is not in list, via the combobox1 on the userform. Also, if possible, I would like the list to re-sort behind the scenes so the added entry is properly located in A-Z format for next time. After searching the web a bit, I found some code that might work with some tinkering, but currently I am having issues with it. Here is the bit I am trying to use.

I am trying to find a way to create a list of unique items from a named range. I have found a few solutions using filters for ranges that are contained in the one column but not named ranges that contain multiple rows and multiple columns.
Is there any way to copy all of the unique items from the named range to another location? Lets call the named range Table1 and it spans from B2 to J100.
I have been trying to make a combobox for which the list is a named range. However, this range needs to be transposed. ListFillRange doesn't seem to let me transpose the list first. I've tried transposing the list somewhere else first and then adding it, but it seems to want a range as opposed to a reference to a range. I'm so confused now. This is the basic code that I wish would work.

While I'm at it, could someone explain to be how to refer to a combobox. ie. when you create it, you don't name it so how can you refer to it. That's why I have used the selection tool above to add the list.
I'm creating a sheet that takes three Validation Lists into account. The first two lists are based on named regions. The third list uses the first two lists to narrow a search down so that the user can pick what they want from a smaller selection. I'm using the code from Contextures.com to allow the user to double click the validation list to pop up a Combo Box. This allows me to show more than 8 selections at a time and also gives a little freedom on font and font size.

Since the third list is not based on a named region but rather code to compare the two previous lists, when I double click the third validation list a blank combo box pops up. it possible to pop up what ever lists are in the validation boxes.
