I have a namd sheet for everyday of the year in a workbook, so jan1 jan2 jan3 etc. I have a stats page which brings together certain pertinent data from those pages, so a formula on the stats page might look like this =sum('jan1'!$m$25:$m$900). What I would like to do is to name each day - jan1 jan2 etc as a named range perhaps date1 date2 etc so that the above formula would then look like =sum(date1!$m$25:$m$900).

I'm self taught at VB (This posts on this forum have taught me - thank you!) and have got the below code working on a Workbook - but not on a worksheet level.
ActiveSheet.Names.Count returns nothing, changing to ThisWorkBook.Names.Count returns the sum of all .Names in the workbook.

I am aware that special characters such as -,(,),[,] are not permitted in named ranges (for lists), but is there a workaround for this? I have a lot of dependent lists that need to access names that contain either a - or () or both. I could simply remove the -'s or ()'s using find/replace, but they are required, as they're part of the name. I am aware of this method http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html#Illegal but I have a lot of dependent lists across a sheet, and a VLOOKUP isn't going to work. If there isn't a workaround, are there any allowed characters I could use to replace the -'s and ()'s?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two sheets. Sheet A has a list of folders. This list is updates dynamically every time the sheet is opened. I have another sheet (sheet B) which has a list of all the files in the sub-folders, listed with the folder name at the top of the column and the files within in the column underneath with hyperlinks to them. The goal is to be able to navigate to the folders on sheet A and to click there to go to the column where all the files in that folder are linked to. What I need is a macro that will search a column and for every cell that has text in it and create in the column directly to the right a hyperlink to the appropriate cell in the top row in sheet B that has the same name as the text in the cell on sheet A that it finds. I already have the macros for listing the folders on sheet A and the macro for listing all the files in the sub folders in sheet B and they work fine. The goal is a link list which is dynamic and that recreates itself no matter what I add to the folders.
For instance, let’s say there is a folder timesheets. If I add a sub-folder called
accounting to the folder Sheet A scans then timesheets would be bumped down one spot on the list, so the macro has to look dynamically for the text in the column on sheet A.
Also the addition of the new folder would move the order of the columns on sheet B, since both lists are alphabetical. So the link generation macro would need to search row 1 of Sheet B to find the match for the text in the cell to the left of where the link would be generated and create a link to the top of that column. I’ve looked all through the site and not found something that I can even modify to do what I need.
Is there any way (in vba code) to unhide the sheet of a given named range?

I am trying to use a named range on a different sheet in the same workbook to which the named range is on.
I have a named range on sheet2 called "Letters" and comprises of cells D20-D25 .
I am trying to call this range on Sheet1 at A1-A6 , so in A1 to A6 I simply have "=Letters" (No quote marks) , but I simply get "#VALUE!" (No Quote Marks), If I then extend the selected cell down to A25 the "Letters" will appear in A20-A25
whereas if I put the same "=Letters" in Sheet1 cell A20-A25 I will get the correct named range.
How can I get the range to show in Sheet 1 Cell A1-A6.
I want to reproduce a named range at a different location on a different sheet in the same workbook.
I just named a range on a sheet and would like to paste that range on a different worksheet within the same workbook. I can't figure out how to refer to the range. I've tried several different variations so far. Example below:

I have a named range on one sheet, and I want to show this as a reference on other sheets. I thought this would be simple, but maybe it's just not the way named ranges are used.
Attached is a sample spreadsheet. First tab shows the table defined; in practice it would be much larger. Second tab shows how I want it to appear. I see that I can do this by copying each cell reference. But what would be nice is to simply say "Put the named range block of cells right here."

I have an excel sheet in which I want to be able to select Zone codes from a drop down, click on a link "search" which takes me to a place in the document that has been named according to the Zone code i pick in the drop-down. is there a way to have the same named range cover a range of cells regardless of which sheet you are on? They seem to want to default to the page you are on. I want to make some VBA subroutines that will go over each sheet, and perform the same functions on each sheet. All sheets have the same format, but different data. I guess worst case scenario I can just break down and use multiple workbooks, but this seems a little less desirable. Should I be dividing this into seperate posts?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make my named ranges remember the values of the last active cells used within another named range. The purpose of this is to make my charts dynamically change dependant on two criteria selected. My spreadsheet currently updates itself as and when I change the active cell within a single named range, dynamically changing the chart data by using Lookup based on the active cells value. However I want to get away from having several charts showing, I would like to have a single chart which dynamically changes based on a second selection. So the first selection is for a department (Facility) which changes the chart data relevant to that department, the second selection is to dynamically change the chart shown for the pre selected department.

Two part question:
1) I'm relatively new to arrays, but what I need to do is generate a list of file names and the sheets within each one. I would like to use an array for this, but since I don't have much experience.... well....that's why I'm here. Can someone point me in the right direction?
2) And the second part of this.... I was planning on using the FileSystemObject to determine the files in a selected folder and loop through that list of files, opening each one and harvesting the required info (file name and all sheet names). Should I use the FSO or is there something built into Excel that might be better (and also limit the number of dependencies for this little "project" of mine).
Is it possible to produce a list on a new worksheet of all sheet names and their their internal names within a workbook?
If so I would like the tabbed name's to begin in say A2 with the corresponding internal name in B2.

I've played around with it, but could not come with any that worked.
Can I stop the displaying of the name of the named area when I am zoomed out of a worksheet? I can not see an option on the Tools > Options > View menu.
A workaround, found by accident, is to make the named area have more than one area.
I'm working on a order spreadsheet system, and I have one sheet called Product Details, where the product name, list price and product code are found, these link to the Sales order page, and I need them so that they can be added to.
So far, I have created a dynamic named range for the Product name on the Product details sheet, and linked the the range via a list validation on the Sales order sheet.
The drop down list displays the products and can be added to by typing new product names on the other sheet.
What I need now is that when a product on the sales order page is selected, it draws the the list price and product code data automatically from the sheet, I tried using a normal vlookup, but I couldn't get it to work. I also need the list price and product code columns to be 'dynamic' so new values can be added further along.
I would like to hyperlink the names in sheet 1 to the same names in sheet two. Is there a way I could do this using a formula rather that do each one by one?

I get the error message 'Application defined or object defined error' when running the code below. I should indicate the range counter currently indicated about 6,200 rows that this code will work on and the individual range names in the list of 6,200 rows are spread over at least 20 worksheets.
The code appears to be running but after some time it stops on the line of code 'Range(Cells(i, 1).Value) = Cells(i, 2)'.
