Is it possible to set the default contents of a cell instead of having it blank? I want a cell to say "No Data" if you have not entered any data into that cell, and when you do, then it is replaced by whatever you entered. If you delete the contents of the cell, it goes back to the "No Data". Hence the "No Data" being the default contents of the cell.
I'm trying to use the Worksheet_Change event to replace all cleared cells with a default formula. This allows users to override the default, or restore the default when they need to:
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("Data")) Is Nothing And Target.Value = "" Then Range("DefaultFormula").Copy ActiveSheet.Paste ActiveSheet.Application.CutCopyMode = False End If
Here are the results with various different regions selected:
Single cell selected and cleared -- works. Multiple cells selected and cleared -- doesn't work if the first area selected contains more than one cell. Otherwise, it works, no matter how many other areas are selected.
Example1: Selected range is (D2:E2, G2) in that order, it does not copy the formula into the cleared cells. Example2: Selected range is (G2, D2:E2) in that order, the code does copy the formula into all the cleared cells as desired.
The "IF" condition is not TRUE when the initial area has more than one cell.
I have a problem (I have intermediate knowledge of Excel): lets say that I have two model years for Cadillac: 2013 and 2014, and have 3 car models for year 2013 (ATS, XTS, and CRX) and two car models for year 2014 (ELR and CTS Sedan). I want to create a dropdown menu under "Model Year" that will show me 2013 and 2014. When I click on either one, a dropdown list for all car models for that year can appear in the next column under "Models". Then, for each car model, there are different characteristics that are in other columns, such as horsepower, mileage, etc...I want all of the content to stay on one line (row), but change when I click on a different model.
I am working on a code which works, however, its is not working entirely as i intended. In this example, the body of the email should contain content from textbox.
I have 3 text boxes, not all are expected to be filled out. So if only textbox1 is filled out, the body should only include information derived from textbox1.
Whats happening now is that even if textboxes 2 and 3 arent filled out, the body of email produces blank formulas from textboxes 2 and 3. So how do i fix this code so that if I enter data into textbox1 only, the body of email will not include empty formulas? Ive also attached a copy of the Produced email file. Code in question is in red font
I use this to read cell content, add some text/characters (ie. [ and ]) and change the properties of the complete cell
Sub COMMENT() Worksheets("DVD Lijssie").Activate If ActiveCell.Value 0 Then ' Change all in to ... ... ... ActiveCell.FormulaR1C1 = ActiveCell.Value & " " & "]" & " " & "[" With ActiveCell.Font .Name = "Arial Narrow" .Size = 8 .ColorIndex = 16 End With End If End Sub HOW can I change this vba-code so it leave's the content of the cell like it is and add some content with the use of let's say TexBox1 and ONLY use different font properties for the newely added content?
Formula/macro/etc that would enable me to have content of a cell changed based on the content of another cell in the same row.
Example: cell in column D says "PSA" - so I would need the cell in column H for that same row to read "Radio"
I would need an entire sheet scanned to review for these occurrences and make the appropriate changes. I also would need the formula to be inclusive enough to scan for variations in column D cell content (PSA 1, PSA 2, etc).
For a table like the one below produced for the sake of example (actual is much much bigger) I want to make it list rows that are true for a certain column for a certain variable in the matrix. So for say water terrain, which types of activity can I do i.e. swimming. Or for Offroad the activites which I can't do i.e. Run and Swim.
ActivityWaterRoadOffroad Jog nym Run nyn Walk nyy Swim ynn y=yes n=no m=maybe
I am using VBA to create a word document (.docx). This word document contains plain text content controls as well as picture content controls. I then use VBA to automatically select a picture based on the code below
Code: Set oCC = Word.ActiveDocument.SelectContentControlsByTitle("TabPic").Item(1) On Error GoTo TabErrorHandler oCC.Range.InlineShapes.AddPicture Filename:="X:XFERANDREW-TDCD " & LblVL &
[Code].....
After the document has been closed down I try to open it again and I am told "The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents."
When I click details it says "Unspecified error" and "Location: Part: /word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 0"
If I click ok it says "Word found unreadable content in "". Do you want to recover the contents of this document? If you turst the source of this document, click Yes.
Clicking Yes opens the document with all the contents and it is now renamed to Document 1. If I click no it does not open.
If I've defined borders for a range of cells and then, changing my mind, change it to "No Borders", those cells are still different than the normal, non-formated cells. Is there a way to get back the default cell bounders?
I've been asked to make an Excel spreadsheet for work that tracks each employee's gross earnings, deductions, and net earnings, as well as calculates the holiday pay. I'm mostly done, but I've run into a problem.
Holiday pay is 4% of the gross earnings. I've got gross earnings in column B, and the formula in the holiday pay column is =PRODUCT(BX,0.04), where X is the row (i.e. in row 4, it is =PRODUCT(B4,0.04).) However, if the cell in BX is empty, the holiday pay displays as 0.04. So for whatever reason, it is assuming that the value of an empty cell is 1. Now, I can solve this by manually entering 0 into every gross earning cell.
I am working on a production spreadsheet, and I'm trying to figure out the easiest way for my coworkers to enter data into the system. Each shift, we produce from 5-20 different varieties of chips, and we keep track of how much we've made of each. I've decided that a simple ADD and DEL button at the end of each row will work (unless anyone can think of something easier or better, let me know pls).
Cell G3:G30 is where data will be stored for each variety. The default value for each variety is stored in column C. I found a very basic macro that adds a value to a selected cell, but I wish for it to find the default quantity for the variety in that row (changes day to day as per our schedule), and add it to the value in column G. The DEL button will do just the opposite.
I have 3 worksheets that I need this macro in as well (days, afternoons, midnights), but I don't think that will be any problem. I've searched around for a solution, to no avail.
I need a cell to display a default value (something like "Input Here") which a user can overwrite with a value. When the value is erased, the cell should return to the default. Preferably, it'd be great if the cell reset to the default value whenever the workbook is opened as well (i.e. won't save the user's input value).
I would like to change the default color of any excel sheet I use to grey from the standard white and I am struggling to find out how this is achieved.
In other words, I am trying to have all cells in the sheets I work with appear grey on my screen by default. A coworker of mine used to work in banking and she has grey cells but does not know how she changed them.
In a worksheet, I should have selected the region where data is present, and center align all the cells. Instead, I selected the entire worksheet and did the same, so that whenever new data comes in the relative cells are already formatted. This has caused the workbook size to increase dramatically. (So, I assume that changing a cell property from the default value uses some memory). Is there a way to restore the format of the blank cells to the default values, so that memory is freed and the workbook size decreases again?
I am trying to get a particular cell to have normal dimensions when not within that cell, but once opened, contains a default text preferably within a text box format/size.
I wish to be able to change the default appearance of a cell's comment. Currently, the default font size is too small to be useful - is there a way of changing this setting, without reverting to a VBA tidy-up?
How to determine the correct formula for this requirement?
Assuming I have 2 individual excel files and an index excel file (in reality, there are more than hundreds of file). For index excel, once the user enter part number (eg. 1 or 2), the excel will look for the part number excel file and determine vlookup function.
The only problem I have here is I can not make the index file automatically add the part number shown on most left column into the required formula (replace the part number file section).
I tried use the indirect function but this require each file to be opened, which is not possible for actual use. I am looking for a function that can work in closed worksheet.
I am working on developing QR Codes using some MATLAB code and it would be really convenient if I could create an excel program which changed the background color of a cell containing a 1 to black and a cell containing a 0 to white.
I am currently trying to create a spreadsheet whereby if I enter certain text in a cell in Column A on worksheet 1 that correlates with text in a cell in Column A on Worksheet 2, then the description in Column B in Worksheet 2 is entered into Column B on worksheet 1.
For example, if worksheet 2 has the following:
Column A Column B XXXX PRODUCT 1 YYYY PRODUCT 2
and I enter XXXX in column A on worksheet 1, I want Column B on worksheet 1 to automatically enter PRODUCT 1.
multiple search match and replace content in a different column so for example
new workbook (look up table) sku search1 search2
[Code]....
so something like where you compare two tables and find and replace based on another cell that matches in my sku.. more details would be if the table column aren't exactly matching but the column header and the row header would match and fill or replace in the correct/corresponding cell is there a macro or vba to do this job in excel?
I have the names of companies in one column, and the amount they owe in cells in the column beside them. I then have a second list of companies that is a subset of the first. Is there a formula that would place the amount they owe in teh corresponding cell adjacent to the compny in the second list? I've attached a sample workbook, Full Company List in column A, amount owing in B, trimmed down list in D and ideally I'd like the corresponding values in E.
I'm using a formula to copy a time from one cell to another across sheets. The format of the time is h:mm AM/PM.
However, when the formula references an empty cell, it puts in a default value of 12:00 AM and I need it to remain blank, (just as the referenced cell) It's such a simple copy formula. ie:
=sheet1!A1
e-mail... howard<dot}coakleyatcoakley<dot].codotuk Skype ID: howie10 (get skype from www.skype.com)
I need a formula for identifying the last cell, of every third cell, that has an numeric entry, of a row. For example, in a range of (F7:V7), I need a formula that examines F7,I7,L7,O7...., and displays the last cell that has a numeric entry, while ignoring the other cells, ie G7, H7, J7, etc.
I have 2 worksheets, let's call them "Sheet1" and "sheet2".
Sheet 1 has 2 columns (A, and B)
Ie. "Sheet1:"
Col A, Col B
Red Green Yes Blue Yellow Orange Yes
For each entry in Column "B" that has a "Yes" value, I need to copy the color value in column "A" into the next available empty cell in "Sheet2" in column A.
"Sheet2"
Col A, Col B
Red 3 Blue 5 Yellow 6
Final Result:
Col A, Col B
Red 3 Blue 5 Yellow 6 Green Orange
how to do this particular challenge? For Sheet2, I think I'll need a function to determine the first available blank cell in column A.
What I need to do is have a cell that will be say yellow until there is information put into this cell. The information could be in the format of text or numbers. The information would not always be the same so it would need to be yellow when there is no information in the cell and another colour or white when there is information in the cell.
