Excel 2007 :: How To Use Query Tables With Multiple Web Pages
Apr 22, 2014
I'm trying to query a web site and export the data to a single sheet in Excel. I've used the record macro function in Excel (2007) and come up with the following but I want to query over 20 pages from this site and wondered if there was any way in looping this macro to do the hard work for me;
With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
"URL;http://www.futwiz.com/en/players", Destination:=Range("$A$1"))
.Name = "players_1"
.FieldNames = True
.RowNumbers = False
.FillAdjacentFormulas = False
[Code] ........
On the second page the URL changes to;
URL;FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Players - FUTWIZ
and the .Name field changes to;
.Name = "players?page=1_1"
and on the 3rd page I get;
URL;FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Players - FUTWIZ
and..
.Name = "players?page=2"

I don't have Excel 2013 so unfortunately I can't easily create relational data in Excel 2010. I'm looking for a solution to a design problem. I'd like to have 2 tables which I can join with Microsoft Query and run pivot table reports.
My department processes payments, both for internal clients and external clients. My Payments table looks like:
Date | Type (internal/external) | Operation (what type of payment) | Method (internet, mail, etc) | Quantity
Additionally, I have a table for Mail Opening, which looks like:
Date | Employee | Operation | Quantity
My overlapping fields are Date and Operation. Using each table individually, I can get nice pivot table reports. What I'd like to do though is be able to not just see what operations and methods were run each day with what quantities, but also to compare that to how much mail was opened. Employee and Operation is a multi-multi relationship, so when I join by date, I end up getting incorrect numbers because of problems with the data layout. I'm open to changing my data structure, as I know the way it's set up right now isn't great, but I'm having a mental block on how to redesign it. I attached a sample workbook.

Using Excel 2010. I'm writing a macro that sets up a workbook to be used for estimating at the beginning of a project. In the code I need to create multiple tables (formerly known as "lists") in the workbook. Then later in the code I need to refer back to those newly created tables. Currently, the code that creates the table is part of a loop that creates the table on many different worksheets. The problem of course, is that I have to name the Table, and then it won't create a table of the same name on the next sheet. Then, later in the code, I need to make adjustments to the table that was just created before looping to the next sheet.
Is there a way to create a table without giving it a constant name? Or by giving it a name that builds off of other info in the sheet? For example, I would be good with the naming the table after the sheet name: "Sheet1_Table" or such.
Code:
Sub Auto_Open()
'
Dim sht As Worksheet
If Range("A1") = 1 Then
[Code].....

We are using Excel 2007.
I wanted to add the date of the last modification of the file to the printed pages, so I googled how to do it and found a useful answer on this from from 10 years ago. It said to press ALT+F11, then on the left side go under VBAProject, there go to ThisWorkbook and there paste the next code:
Code:
Private Sub Workbook_BeforePrint(Cancel As Boolean)
For Each wk In Worksheets
With ActiveSheet.PageSetup
.LeftHeader = "Last Modified on " & ActiveWorkbook.BuiltinDocumentProperties.Item("Last Save Time")
.CenterHeader = ""
[Code]....
Then I saved it and closed. Like I said, it worked perfectly.
The problem is that when I open the file after closing it, it does not appear, and I have to paste the code again every time I open it. Not only is this not comfortable, it also counts as a modification, so even if I haven't changed the work sheets themselves, just wanted to open and print it, it shows today's date.
My question is, who to I save it permanently so it will remain always after the first time I created it?
While we're at it, if there's a way for that code to appear on every NEW Excel file I create automatically

I am working on word documents that has financial numbers on them. I am copying word pages to excel to calculate the numbers by using formulas and etc. I will cut to the chase; is there a way or a macro to insert into an excel template workbook(.xltx) when we open the template there will be a command button to select the word document (which we want to copy its pages) to excel sheets. When a new page begins a new sheet will be created and the page will be pasted on the new sheet.
It is not important if it has to have a command button to select the word document it is ok to run the macro and select the word document and it does not has to populate sheets according to length of word document (I can create lost of free sheets on the template)
The main idea is to gain the time I spend on copying the word document to excel sheets. Some documents can be very long (100 pages). I am using MS Office 2007.
I triend to export data but excel does not allow me to select word documents.

I've inherited an SQL server database which imports data from a multitude of spreadsheets each night. Unfortunately the previous data is not deleted from the database or spreadsheets, so there are duplicated records throughout the database. The method they have been using to get data out is to "select distinct", which gets around the problem (not my preferred solution).
I now need to produce an invoice from the database, so I select distinct records for the previous month (based on date) from, say, the TRUCKING table into a TEMP table, so I can do my calculations from there.
But there are a couple of columns which prevent me from getting only unique records. They are the unique ID column and the TIMESTAMP column they have added.
If I try to select all the individual columns, except for the ID and TIMESTAMP, the string length goes over 256 chars and the query truncates.
So I tried "SELECT DISTINCT * FROM TRUCKING WHERE etc etc" but I get the ID and TIMESTAMP fields, which defeats the purpose, and I get duplicate records.
Is there a way to say, for instance, SELECT ALL EXCEPT the fields I don't want?

I am creating many tables in excel using a macro, and I want to copy them into a word document for later use. All the tables come from a long list, so for simplicity, they all get created on the same range starting at F1. Before deleting the existing table and adding the new one, I'm trying to copy/cut the table and paste it into a word document.
In case it makes a difference, I have office 2007
VB:
Sub ExcelToWord(LastRow)
Dim objWord As Word.Application
Range("F1:F" & LastRow).Copy
With objWord
.Documents.Add
.Selection.Paste
.Visible = True
End With
End Sub

I am trying to create a dynamic sub-table on another sheet from a master list in excel 2007. Where the master list size can change and have this reflected in the sub-table. I cannot use pivot tables.
Example:
Master List (Locations):
London
Drummond
Kentville
Sub List (should look like this):
London #count
Drummond #count
Kentville #count

I'm running Microsoft Office 2007.
I have 2 separate tables.. both a list of contacts of sorts.
In one table I have a list of all my clients (table A), in the other I have a list of "preferred" clients (table B).
The contact details etc that are stored in table A are more comprehensive to those in table B.
Effectively, I want to search for all of my preferred contacts from table B and filter for them in table A.
Then ideally I will sort alphabetically and just cut and paste the details into my preferred client spreadsheet.
I had a look online and there was something about creating a "relationship" but I don't think excel 2007 allowed me to do it. I certainly hadn't heard of powerview or powerpivot that they were using!

I saw a previous post regarding using "with (nolock)" in the FROM statement with each table to prevent SQL from locking the tables. I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but when I edited a query to add an extra criteria, the query is grinding the server practically to a halt (such power!!). Our IT guy tells me that my query is taxing the server. Maybe I'm not using the NOLOCK correctly?
Here is the query as I'm running it that runs slow. (The additional WHERE statement that I added that created the slow down is this one: ((cicmpy.AccountTypeCode='TSH') AND (oehdrhst_sql.ord_dt>={ts '2013-01-01 00:00:00'}))
Prior to adding this statement and the NOLOCK, the query runs in a flash.
Full query:
SELECT
oehdrhst_sql.ord_type,
oehdrhst_sql.bill_to_no,
cicmpy.AccountTypeCode,
[Code]....

I am new to doing advanced stop with pivot tables. I know how to make one to do very basic things but I have since learned you can add your own calculated fields. I have a list of data that has a line of record for each different day of sales which each guest. There is a lot of information on the sheet but the columns that matter are as follows:
ColA= CustID
ColB= Trips(this field is the same value for each record of the same customer and represents the total number of trips the Cust has) on a side note this field can be removed if it would be easier to just do a count of custid as those are the same thing
ColC= Months(this field is the same value for each record of the same customer and represents the total number of different months the cust made a purchase)
ColD= AmountSpent
I can use a pivot table to show me the total amount spent by Cust real easy. But I would like to add in the two other fields Average per trip and average per month by cust. Is this something that can be done in a calculated field?
I use Excel 07. I know I can run formulas to get the answer I want however due to the shear volume of records being over a million(I know we should use access at this point but the company does not want to) the time it takes the formulas to calculate freezes my computer(need a serious upgrade).

In Excel 2007, I have a tables linked from Access 2007. I frequently delete and import a new set of data into Access, then refresh the Excel file. Most of the time this works, but I've noticed sometimes one column doesn't refresh (even though I can see it in Access). If I modify the field name in the Access query, then refresh the table in Excel the newly named field is added in the in the last column of the table with current data. The column that wasn't refreshing stays the same.
When I originally created the link in Excel, I added various columns with formulas, but do not edit the columns that are imported from Access.

it's possible to set up conditional formatting to compare values between two identically-formatted (i.e. same row and column) pivot tables?
I have two pivots from two different sources and I want to be able to visually identify discrepancies between the two. Both have dates as the row labels (same date range) and categories as column labels (some categories may not necessarily be present on both pivots but the format of the labels - i.e., the names of the categories - is consistent where there is overlap)
I've tried doing this with 'traditional' CF but whenever I manipulate the pivots (i.e. by selecting / deselecting an item in a report filter), the movement of the columns trashes the formatting and I have to set it all up again.
Figured, given the structure of the tables is essentially the same, there might be a smarter way of doing it (by referencing the pivot fields in some way)

I am wanting to create a validation rule so when two cells are added the together the answer must be less than or equal to 14:00 - otherwise a message box will appear
So for example if H7+I7 gives an answer of 13:00 in J7, that's OK, but if the answer is 15:00, the error box will appear. I know that data validation doesnt work on a cell that already has a formula so I'm hoping to use K7 for the Validation and then hide the column

I'm trying to build a workbook (2007) with multiple worksheets where each worksheet corresponds to a different query/dataset pulling data from the one database.
I would have expected that you could define the one data connection object and then specify the SQL that each worksheet table will invoke. The apparent structure of having the query coupled to the connection object is confounding me. I'm therefore trying to set up a separate connection for each of the worksheets and Excel is getting tied up in knots.

However, my problem is that I don't know a way of globally setting the print area for every single sheet.
Also, the reports are not exactly the same size, they will vary from 5 to 12 columns.

I'm working on a national survey with valuable data from students. The plan is to turn around, 100 different reports to the departments with their respective students.
The issue that I have is creating multiple tables from multiple sheets in excel into a word table, any way of automating it.
What the tables look like in excel:
What I want them to look like in word, with a chart if possible:
I realize that I can just copy and paste easy table into word from excel and with a few clicks of a button, get what I want. But i'm looking for something to automate and simplify this process. There are about 300-400 variables that I need to crosstab with certain demographics.
If it matters any, I bought a software package (Q Market Research) but it doesn't make the tables look exactly how I want them to look. The data is from SPSS, those tables are flat out.

No, this is not about ScreenUpdating = True/False
Neither is it because you've turned SU off, and then used 'Select' or 'DoEvents' etc in your code.
When running an update for a QueryTable (once a second), 3 'buttons' (activeX image controls with code behind them) flicker - though I see no reference to selecting and/or screenupdating in my code
Is this purely something about refreshing a querytable that I can't fix?
Is there a subclass or API call I can intercept to stop drawing the images alone?
Code:
Public Sub ActivateConn()
Dim strFilespec As String
Dim strConn As String
Dim sqlStr As String
Set RecSet = New ADODB.Recordset
[Code] .....
In short, there's no REASON why I couldn't just use the selection_change event to fire the same macros as the buttons but... well... it doesn't look anywhere near as good (I have a thing about making VB apps look as good as the code behind them is smart)

I need to create a function which will take a objectname (a query or table) and a file name format
The objective is to export this query or table into multiple text files each with a maximum of 1000 lines per text file. These files are used as an input for SAP - the interface only takes a maximum of 1000 lines per file.
I am having three issues with the code below.
1. How do I split an excel query based on line numbers? Is there a way to get the equivalent of ROW_NUM in oracle ? Or do I have to loop through it and maintain a counter?
2. What is the best way to split the file ? Loop within loop? I need the files to be tab separated (no header required)
3.The rst.RecordCount is acting strange - when I pass a name of the query - the property returns the right no. of rows, however when I pass a any table name it only returns 1 - is this the expected behavior - or am I missing something
Code:
Function ExportAsText(strObjectName As String, strFileName As String) As Long
' Purpose: Export any given query, table to mutliple files each of certain length
' the no. of lines per text file is defined by the config parameter SAP UPLOAD, LINE LIMIT PER TEXT FILE
' in the LKUP_CONFIG database
Dim db As DAO.Database 'This database

I'm trying to create some vba code that will go into other .xlsx documents, pull all cells with a value in the first 30 columns and then return them as a table. Basically each work crew has a .xlsx spreadsheet containing their schedule and I am trying to bring them all together into one nice little package. If I go to import from external sources then click XML data, navigate to the folder they are in and them click show all files and pick my spreadsheet it imports nicely. Then I go to the next blank cell in column "A" and repeat for the 4 crews. Now I can filter by each crew but all 4 are visible on a single page as a table. I recorded a macro that shows everything I did, but it is not dynamic (the .xlsx source files name changes based on the month) I'm running XP sp3 with Excel 2010
Here is a copy of what I have
Code:
With ActiveSheet.ListObjects.Add(SourceType:=0, Source:=Array( _
"OLEDB;Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Password="""";User ID=Admin;Data Source=C:Documents and SettingsUSERNAMEDesktopSCHEDULE STUF" _
, _
"FAcrewCurrent.xlsx;Mode=Share Deny Write;Extended Properties=""HDR=YES;"";Jet OLEDB:System database="""";Jet OLEDB:Registry Path=""""" _
, _
";Jet OLEDB:Database Password="""";Jet OLEDB:Engine Type=37;Jet OLEDB:Database Locking Mode=0;Jet OLEDB:Global Partial Bulk Ops=2;J" _
, _
"et OLEDB:Global Bulk Transactions=1;Jet OLEDB:New Database Password="""";Jet OLEDB:Create System Database=False;Jet OLEDB:Encrypt " _
[code].....
Is there a better or simpler way to do this? The tables don't need to be forever linked to their previous spreadsheets so if copy/pasting is a better way than I am all for that as well.

I have been using web queries on other websites, and they have worked beautifully, however the tables that I want aren't recognised by the web query wizard (no yellow/black arrows). I can import the whole page through a query, however that's not really practical.
Is there a way I can import just specific tables on this site?? I'd like both the 'east' and 'west' tables.

I am currently working on a project that uses Excel to parse a .txt document. Its working quite well for me. It functions by having two worksheets. In the first worksheet I use the " import external data" menu to import my .txt file. In another worksheet I have set up fields that show only the important information from the .txt file and leave the junk behind.
I’m looking to improve the functionality of this by adding a button to automatically clear the data in the first worksheet so that new data can be added quickly.
I have searched the forum and found a couple of threads on "QueryTables". After reading up on those, I have made a simple button with the following code.
Sheets("Sheet1"). Cells.Clear
Sheets("Sheet1").QueryTables.Item(1).Delete
After I load a .txt file and parse it using the formulas set up, I copy my needed information and then press this button. The cells clear, and the QueryTables are "reset" (maybe not the right word). Now a different .txt file can be imported and the process starts again.
The problem I am having is that. If there is no "QueryTables.Item(1)" to delete, I get a run time error. (Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range).
Would anyone know how to make my button conditional to having a "QueryTable" active? I.E. If I press it when there is no data loaded it doesn't do anything or give me that error.

I am trying to take multiple tables from a Word document and import them into an Excel worksheet. Currently I have found two versions that when combined, could yield what I am looking for. The first one imports the table's data from Word, but does not maintain formatting of the table (font, colors, rows/columns etc.):
The next code maintains formatting, but only imports/pastes one table:
[Code] .........
For the second one, I do not like the fact that it is calling a specific Workbook to paste into. If I could somehow maintain the ability to import/past multiple tables while keeping formatting that would be perfect. An extra bonus would be to import each table within the Word document into individual Worksheets in Excel. I am also using Office 2010.
