One cool feature of 2010 is ability to (right click on dates) and Group them into Quarters.
How to change the Quarters to be in line with e.g. Financial Year, as opposed to fiscal years? i.e. have a start date of say June?
how to calculate the time between two dates in years and quarters (represented in .25 increments). I would round down on the .25 increments (3 months) if not fully surpassed.

I have a pivot table with dates along the x-axis. The data is spread out over 5 years and the spacing between sampling events is not even, therefore, the spacing of my x-axis dates is not even. I want the x-axis to look similar to a normal graph where there is equal space between each month, even if I don't have data for each month. I do not want to group the data to accomplish this. If I click the "show items with no data" it only shows one extra day, not all days or even all months. I have excel 2010.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using 2010 to write some code for a spreadsheet that will be used in 2007, so I know that RepeatLabels is not available.
My question is if you Group a date field by Months and Years and the data spans across 2 or more different years, is there a way to hide months in a specific year? I ask because the Date field has only 12 months in it and if I hide Jan (for example) it hides Jan in both years. (attached pic of filter for Date field below.)
Is there some other way to format it so it can discern between years or do I need to add yet another column to my original data?
I had a workbook in Excel 2003 that i just moved to 2010. In the 2003 file I had 2 pivot tables, one each on a worksheet, looking at the same data, just grouped differently. One yearly, one quarterly.
Now in the 2010 workbook whenever I change the grouping on pivot table, the other one changes also. It's like they are linked together or something.
I have a pivot table below: Excel 2010. All of the information within it is text, not numbers, as illustrated below as well.
Below is what I have now....
Column A, Row 1 = Red
Column B, Row 1 = Blue
Column B, Row 2 = Yellow
Column C, Row 1 = Green
Column C, Row 2 = Green
What I want it to look like is below, removing the second word "green" from column C.
Column A, Row 1 = Red
Column B, Row 1 = Blue
Column B, Row 2 = Yellow
Column C, Row 1 = Green
Is there a way to do this and do it automatically? If I was doing this in a regular excel sheet, I would have a merged cell in column C, rows 1 & 2.
I have a stripped down data source for debugging purposes. I only have 4 rows of data for test purposes. The dates are formatted as dates.
When I create the pivot table the dates become my column values. When I select the first date in the pivot table the Group By Field menu option is grayed out. I tried setting a tabular format but didn't work.
I have a pivot table and and struggling to group these by month as well as to sort thee in escending order.

Sometimes there are two entries for a particular date e.g. 1/10/08 there were 150 readers of magazine A and 200 readers of magazine B. When displaying this on a graph it give a bar for each day, whereas I would like a bar for each week.
Is there a formula to convert the individual dates into weeks and then total the circulation figures for that week?

I am using Excel 2010 and have a workbook with two sheets - "Risks & Issues" which contains the source data and "Risks - Summary" which contains a Pivot Table called "Dashboard"
I would like to create a command button called 'Refresh Data' which will be on the "Risks - Summary" sheet. When I add a new line to the "Risks & Issues" sheet, I would click the button in "Risks - Summary" and it will update the Pivot Table range.
So far I've tried using some examples found on this site, although with no experience in VBA macros, I'm not really sure what they do; all I know is that they cause an error.

I am trying to group some dates in a pivot table.
Unfortunately I receive an error saying it can't group the selection.
I have done "text to columns" and made the cells - (date values) and I have had no luck.
As I am at work I can't use the HTML genie because it won't install but I have uploaded a dummy file to my dropbox which available from here [URL] .......
I pull this data from an Oracle POWER PIVOT and always have trouble grouping the dates when they come from Power Pivot. Currently working as analyst so figuring this out would make life so much easier as I could group by months etc.
Have a simple Pivot table that i have grouped in 14 day buckets.
Currently, the date range looks like this:
1/21/2013 - 2/3/2013
However, I want the range to show the 'last' date only.
Is there a simple way to do this? I just can not see it in the format cells menu...

I am trying to add columns to my Excel 2010 Pivot Table to calculate % change of sales from year to year. The field name is "Year", while the item columns in the field are 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. How do I add a column between the years that will calculate the % change os sales up or down from the previous year?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently working with a pivot table someone else created. The data set has dates only, in the correct format. The slicer has the dates categorized by month and excludes the dates in which there was no data.
Here is my problem: I added a few new months of data. Everything is calculating just fine in the Pivot table. However, my slicer where I should be able to pick the month now has these months listed as all their individual dates. I want to put the December dates under "December" and so on. The data that was present before I loaded anything additional still has this feature.
How do I group these dates, to be able to them as months? By the way, the grouping function is grayed out.
I have a database of roughly 9000 rows. My first sheet is this data in a raw format (Masterdata!). Each row is a fire-rescue response call and therfore has a time stamp. The raw data uses different formats to provide the time stamp. My second sheet is my filtered data (Filtereddata!). In order to make these time stamps uniform I have a formula that looks at the Masterdata! timestamp column and if it is in a numeric format changes it to a text date and if it is a text date perserves it.

This gives me the "timestamp" which has both the incident start time and the date. I have =left and =right formulas breaking apart the date and the time. Therefore I have two columns on my Filtereddata! for the date of the incident and the time the call came in. What I would like to do is run some pivot tables and group incidents by month. I am unable to group them once I run the pivot table. I get a "Unable to group these items" (or something like this) message. I have assured multiple times that the date column is in DATE format. However, when I change the date to long date or short date I see no changes in the column so I am assuming there is something happening that I'm missing. The formula populating the date column on Filtereddata! is as such:

Using Excel 2007 I have a pivot table that counts that number of incidents based on month and year. To get the month and year I group the date field as months and years.
My problem is if I want to filter specfic months in say year 2012 it also takes out the month in 2013. I though it used to give you the option of year and date in the filter but mines are 2 seperate filters.
I have a list of Dates (01-OCT-2011, 03-Dec-2011, 12-Jan-12, 10-FEB-2012, 03-APR-2012, etc). I would like to figure a formula that would see the the date and return the QUARTER. For example:
IF dates are between 01-OCT-2011 thru 31-DEC-2012 THEN return QTR1, IF dates are between 01-JAN-2012 thru 31-MAR-2012 THEN return QTR2, IF dates are between 01-APR-2012 thru 30-JUN-2012 then return QTR3, etc

I had a question about adding numbers, sort of like algebra equations (best description I can think of) into a spread sheet. Example:

Cell A6: -where I want the total to be displayed in the following way: 16+16l+8l
Is this even possible to calculate by grouping like numbers?
I'm using Excel 2007 and am having an issue with grouping/ungrouping fields in pivot tables.
I have 2 separate pivot tables, both from the same named data source, but summarizing different data selections. Both tables include the date field, I am trying to produce both a daily and a monthly table, but whenever I change the grouping/ungrouping of the date field setting on one table, the other table changes to the same grouping.
Is there anyway to have one table with an ungrouped date field and one table with the grouped to month date field?
I have a workbook with worksheet like 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 3a, 3b...etc Is it anyway i can make a tab which will hide a group of worksheet (like 2a,2b....2e) together and unhide all the worksheet with another click on it? becasue i got too many worksheet to show in the bottom..
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using 2010. When I highlight rows or columns and select Group, the show (+) / hide (-) buttons would appear in the next to or above the header rows/columns.
The file I am working on is not showing these buttons. If I go to the Data tab & click "hide detail" or "show detail", it will hide my grouping if I'm in one of the cells of the grouping.
I can easily hide/unhide, but would rather group & click rather than highlight rows/columns.

How can I customize the chart to group the data series on the X-Axis and repeat the 12 month series 3 times on one chart with one X-Axis to show each data series as a group?

A2 = 10/1/2005: with the formula up there it turns into Fall 2005
i want to be able to add any number of years and the formula will still come up with the quarters system
also i would like A2 to be stationary and create a list of quarters for each year i add on
ex.
A2= 10/1/2005 B2=Fall 2005
B3=Winter 2006
B3=Spring 2006
B5=Summer 2006
B6=Fall 2006
etc.
If this is all possible lastly I would like to negate summer quarters
I'm trying to make a simple chart, which maps the value of an investment fund over time. I wanted to use the new 'Table' feature within Excel 2010 to format and maintain the formulae within the Table, and the 'Header' for the table contains the date, which is not at regular intervals.
If I opt not to use the Table feature, I can create a line-chart with ease, and Excel recognises that the Dates are indeed dates and plots the graph correctly. The minute I convert over to a Table, the Date headers are no longer recognised as dates, and are instead plotted as if they were text, at regular intervals.
I've tried multiplying the Date Headers by 1 to force them back to true Dates, but this still does not work. I've also changed the setting on the horizontal axis to Date axis rather than automatic, but still no joy.
In Sheet1, If I have Group IDs in Column A and values in Column B as below, is it possible to create a summary in Sheet2 where the MIN value for each group ID is returned?
